I can't believe this. I'm such a dumba#$! I turned it off thinking it was over and I couldn't take anymore of it. Then, while watching the Hawai'i game I see the scroll at the bottom and had to come here to make sure it wasn't wrong! Wow!

I hate to say this, but we're playing like a team that is just ready for the season to end. FIU is playing like a team that doesn't want to go 0-11.

From someone who has separated both shoulders during my playing days, a 2nd degree is in the middle. A 1st degree is more like a severe sprain. A 3rd degree is definite surgery. With a 2nd degree it just depends on which end of the spectrum your injury falls to determine surgery. He must be closer to the 3rd degree, if not surgery is optional. As the doctor told me when I had a 2 1/2 degree injury, "We could do surgery or you can rest. You'll basically be trading a lump for a scar."

Major props to RETSO! That was pretty awesome!

After watching this game I came away with one thought - the women need a spot up shooter badly! I don't care if she can't dribble water out of her mouth or if she plays like Set Shot in the "Fish that Saved Pittsburg." As long as she can stand at the wing or baseline and shoot then she needs to be at NT. Another need area - a shut down defender and there is one playing at LD Bell under Coach Tina Matthews (a NT alumna) I've been telling NT about. Her name is Eld'hah Kosawatuka. She went to state in the triple jump, all district in volleyball and all district in basketball. She is a shut down defender on the 1, 2, or 3 and can jump, run and clean the board. She's 5'10" and would help us tremendously. She had 19 pts vs The Colony last night, but scoring isn't her specialty.

Just surfing channels and it appears as though the game will be on DirecTV, channel 696 at 7:00pm, if you have the College Hoops Package.

I hate hate hate hate the prevent defense. I cannot say that strongly enough. However, there were 3 plays on the last drive we did not make which could have ended the game - 2 potential ints and a horrible missed tackle that gave 15 additional yards after contact. I hate the prevent, but the defenders on the field have to take some of the blame for the final drive. Also, I was very surprised we did not go for it on their 5 yd line. If you don't make it they must go 95 yds w/no time outs and a FG only send it to overtime. We have only 1 win and have nothing to lose. I understand the FG attempt, but our kickoffs were netting a starting fielding position of the 35 yd line anyway.

Yes we were. Rushing 3 and putting Holman (a LB no less) 15 yards deep in the middle of the zone is a prevent defense. A bad one at that.

Best post of the night!

I'll be there with 4 additional.

not to be a smarta$$, but I thought this was the highest scoring game... The October 7, 1916, American football game between the Georgia Tech Engineers and the Cumberland College Bulldogs (now Cumberland University) was the most-lopsided game in the history of college football. Georgia Tech won, 222–0. Here's the box score: 1 2 3 4 Total Cumberland 0 0 0 0 0 Georgia Tech 63 63 54 42 222

I've always loved that nick name. Playing for the Gentlemen!

I truly believe in the next few days you will be hearing some current players speak up. You have to remember that the current players are bound by certain rules in terms of dealing with the media. There are certain things they must go through first. Also, if this turns into a potential lawsuit many times people are asked not to say anything. As for former players, I was contacted by several former black players who were dumbfounded about this situation. Many actually said they were sick to their stomach. Since we do not have any limitations (as due the current players), I called Brett and told him we have some things to say. I gave him the numbers of several former players whose contact information I had readily available. One post, I believe Smitty, mentioned us having a relationship with TD over 15 years ago. This is simply not true. My relationship with TD started 15 years ago, but has never ended. We've stayed in touch, I know his family, and he also coached at my former High School (Newman Smith, which by the way the football team is over 50% minority). Not to mention, I have seen things he and his family has done to help others that go unnoticed. We simply felt their was another voice which needed to be heard, especially after hearing the nonsense we heard on The Ticket friday morning from a few callers that don't know TD from a hole in the wall (specifically he must be a racists because he coached at SLC and all their players are white)!

Fw*tele.."unt Coach Not But Damage Is Done"
GMoney replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
And that's the major problem. When this is dismissed will the newspaper and television stations be on campus to get a reply when this is dismissed! NOPE! -
How do you know they didn't and Miller handled it better? Instead, maybe Miller said my bad. I lost my temper. It won't happen again rather than talking back to a coach. Or better yet, if the coaching staff is racist then they would have also kicked Miller off the team for profanity since he's black. I'm not going to say much about this situation becuase I think it is completely baseless! However, since when can't a coach determine how he wants his slideline and team to act? Every person who has ever played an organized sport has been corrected by a coach, screamed at, and told not to do something they didn't understand and had to sit there and take it. It's not a player's "right" to argue back unless what he is told to do is immorally wrong (i.e. hurting someone, cheating etc.). If a coach allows back talk and arguing from his players, then dam will break soon! Every coach has his own set of rules and some you agree with and some you don't. However, the bottom line is you adjust or you leave. However, to call Dodge and George or anyone a racist is an allegation which you better have substantial proof. So far, nothing has been produced. If this claim gets dismissed, DG is setting himself up for a slander lawsuit if TD and CG wanted to go that route. I don't think they would, but still that's how serious this claim is.

Got To Meet Greatness Saturday Night

I'm trying to figure out why that phase would even need to come up during a game. What purpose does it show? We're from the hood and can get beat by 20 on Homecoming? I'm sorry, I'm with Coach George on this one. It's one thing to be proud of where you are from, it's another to remember where you are at and ultimately who you represent. Something here doesn't sound right. Keep in mind, Coach George is a guy who took a head coaching job at Hillcrest for 2 years where 90% of his players where black. I'll bet there is going to be more to this story.

That smells of tabloid headlines. That's not cool especially considering the circumstances of the picture are not known. That's pretty cheap. I know there are people upset with the D and maybe even with Mendoza personally, but this is a little over the line unless you know what is being said.
-
A very telling statement.
-
This may be true but you and I both know that coaches are going to surround themselves with people they trust, know and feel comfortable with. I don't blame TD one bit for doing the same. Has the defense been a disappointment - absolutely. However, I'm going to give them the same latitude I gave DD to learn, adjust, and recruit their players to run their scheme. Then, if things aren't better I'm going to trust TD to make a change but in the big scheme of things 5 games is just too quick to be asking for someone's head.
-
That's easy to explain, if you're slow you're not in the position to make tackles. You're constantly reaching instead of putting a hat in someone chest and driving through him. If you don't have pursuit and gang tackling you're trying to make a lot of open field or one on one tackles. In those situations you'll make some, but you will also miss a lot resulting in big plays - and there you have the 2007 season so far (missed tackles, big plays, lots of running space, lack of pursuit etc.).
-
I agree, I was speechless as well. Then one thought came to mind, to be this bad it takes a complete effort - coaching, schemes, techinque, talent and most important speed. I couldn't stop thinking how slow our defense looked. The ability to surround the ball, fly to the ball, get off blocks, make up for a misstep, gang tackle all the things that speed can provide we are void of it every where. This defense is slow - very very very slow.
-
I agree. I'm not supporting them because I think what they have done so far is acceptable, they don't even believe that! However, it is 4 games into a season from a team that only won 5 games the past two years. There is a reason for that and it can't be fixed with the waving of a magic wand! This is a team that needed 7 ot's to beat FIU last year. We were, and are at the bottom! It takes time to get the pieces in place and most importantly - to learn how to win! When you lose two 14 pt leads, that tells me you need to learn how to win. You can talk about it as a coach, but until the team goes out there and does it - it hasn't been done! Let's give these guys some time to get it done. Like him or hate - I believe DD was 0-5 in his 4th year, before he started turning things around. It won't take TD near the same amount of time to get competitive by way of his recruiting efforts alone. Not to mention, they've shown some promise on offense and I believe the D will get fixed.

One Of The Worse Officiated Games In Recent Memory
GMoney replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
That was right when I was praying that things not get any worse! -
You should be quite when we have the ball, you scream and make noise when they have the ball (not the other way around). There were a few around me that knew this and made noise at critical times. Not everyone around me stood up, but at least no one asked me to sit down. I'll keep doing the right way until eventually everyone around me picks it up! I think one thing we need to remember is last night there were probably a lot of new faces that don't know the organized cheers. They'll learn, lets just hope everyone returns and doesn't just ship because we're 0-3!
