  1. Wow he looks like Ludacris!
  2. She runs numerous free basketball clinics every year for young people (boys and girls) to come and learn skills. My neice went to several of them a few years back. She is very much in the community and the young people involved in basketball, over the past 10+ years, will definitely know who she is. There is no doubt, she has been very active in the area with her camps.
  3. Nancy definitely knows her place in history and can rub some people the wrong way. However, with that being said I think most former great players have this type of attitude. Knowing this, as well as how successful she's been in her other business interests, would we have the money to woo her? There is no doubt her connections would be great and run deep. I also like Donna Capps as a candidate.
  4. I'm sorry but this is not true. I've been told there has been tremendous interest in the job. I was not given names but was told that voicemails in the athletic office are full. However, as to be expect with a committee in place there are certain procedures to go through in returning calls, evaluating resumes and narrowing the list. It's my guess we'll hear a lot more when the search is narrowed down to a "short list."
  5. No bashing and answer to the question - No.
  6. I really don't think there is a sense of apathy, but until the job is officially posted and names start being linked, there is not much to discuss. I'm really interested in seeing who is on the short list of candidates. I've heard the same names as everyone else (in the DRC and FWST) but nothing to really confirm those names, therefore nothing to discuss.
  7. Make an adjustment to your post - Larry Tidwell is the Lamar coach (should be part of point 2). Of all these candidates, I still like Donna Capp best. However, I know there was a problem with an assistant coach at UTA. The rumors were that UTA wanted Donna to fire the assistant and she would not. Consequently, Donna resigned. I support her loyalty, but also question what the assistant did or did not do (that I don't know) to become cross ways with the administration but still have Donna's support.
  8. Fort those who need to learn about Donna Capps - she a good one! CAPPS RESIGNS AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH Donna Capps returns to high school setting as an administrator with Mesquite ISD April 9, 2007 UT Arlington announced Donna Capps has resigned as the head women's basketball coach to accept an administrative position with the Mesquite (Texas) Independent School District Monday. Capps was named the 2007 Southland Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Mavs to their first outright conference title and to the team's second NCAA Tournament appearance in three seasons. The Mavericks' 24-9 record set a school and conference record for consecutive wins with 19. "The opportunity to move into administration was something I could not pass up at this time," said Capps. "I appreciate all the support the community and fans of our program displayed over the past seven years. I think we have built a program the University can be proud of. " Capps finished her seven-year collegiate career with a 119-89 (.572) record and was named the SLC Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2007. The 119 wins are the most by a head women's basketball coach in program history. "We appreciate Donna's service and significant contributions to our intercollegiate athletics program and University," said UT Arlington Athletics Director, Pete Carlon. "I've known Donna as an outstanding coach and role model ever since we worked together 30 years ago in the high school setting. She has developed a great program that has produced terrific results. The program is regarded as one of the most well respected and highly successful women's basketball programs in the country and has set some high standards for us to maintain. We are certainly going to miss her and we wish her the best as she begins her career in an administrative role." This season's 24-9 mark also set a school record for wins in a season. It caps off three consecutive 20-plus-win seasons at UT Arlington, including the program's first SLC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004-05 with a 21-10 season. In between, the Mavs ended the 2005-06 season 20-9 and runner-up during the regular season. In 2003-04, Capps' team advanced to the SLC Tournament finals and finished the year 19-12. Capps began her head-coaching career at North Mesquite High School where she was the head coach from 1978-90. She spent one season at Mabank before eight seasons at Crandall High School. In all, she won 510 high school games before joining UT Arlington in 2000. A national search for a replacement will begin immediately, said Carlon. - utamavs.com -
  9. Let me clarify, I'm referring to them both hitting on all cylinders at the same time - not one up and one down, one hot and one cold. When this team really made it's run last at the end of last year, they both were playing some good ball at the same time (& Watkins got on fire down the stretch). I'm thankful for all they did last year and this year. It just would have been nice to see everything put together at the same time, but it happens - injuries, new parts, different chemistry etc.
  10. I agree. Justin may be the coaching staff's biggest accomplishment when it's all said and done. Justin should not out play seniors Williams and Wooden combined. Those two could not get on track last night (better yet, this season) - a combination of fouls and WKU's more athletic big men.
  11. Our inability to play on the road has hurt us all year long. I've always believed the sign of a good team is one that can win on the road and we couldn't and didn't. Also, you know it's a bad night when Howerton has almost as many points by himself (10) as our senior posts Wooden and Williams combined (12).
  12. Once again doesn't guard the inbounder! WHY? Haven't you been beaten enough by doing that? Got very very lucky this is not in OT.
  13. We definitely have 2 NT family members that are going wild. I love it. Looks like they're giving back a little bit of what they've been taking all game long. Hopefully we hang on!
  14. http://cbs.sportsline.com Well, it's not a full article but mentions we should have two in the tourney (USA and WKU). That is, until NT wins the SBC Tourney again! Sorry, didn't see this posted earlier.
  15. I agree with you to a point, but eventually somebody does play for these teams. Not everyone is just a "too" or another number. A that is what draws these kids is the promise of something big which for most doesn't happen. However, from what I've seen of Rex, he's good enough to get serious playing time at either one of these U's. It may not be as a freshmen, but by the time he's a Jr., he'll definitely be in the mix.
  16. Did he become a better kicker between the end of the season and post signing day? I'm told the reason why these services will upgrade a player (even after signing day) is because they will get requested film on a guy late. Tell will request film on a player and for some reason there will be a delay in receiving the film. They will make changes to ratings once received and reviewed.
  17. [Wasn't Schnellenberger a big critic of TD's early recruiting strategy ?
  18. The stat of yards given up can be very misleading - too many variables to make an apples to apples comparison (scheme, opponents, yards per carry, yards per attempt etc.). What I do like seeing from him is experience as a KR/PR. He should be able to help with some of the basics that were missing last year (not letting a ball hit the ground, not fielding a ball inside your own 10 on punts etc.). What I'm interested in seeing is the techinques he will teach, to run the DeLoach schemes that should put us in position to make plays.
  19. This is another item that stuck out to me. If you add that to redshirt Frosh, Sam Roberson 6-4, we've got some serious size at WR.
  20. This may be the understatement of the past year!
  21. For as long as we've had some of these commitments, to only lose 2 (keeping fingers crossed) is pretty amazing. The coaching staff should be commended on the continued recruiting after receiving the commitments.
  22. This is very good for the SBC as a whole. Yes, we want to win and seeing other schools with good recruiting classes makes it harder to do so. However, in order for the SBC to continue to get better and garner more respect the SBC must win more non-conference games. Recruiting is the starting point.
  23. As I told you before or did you ignore it, I was told directly that there would be a front page article if the allegations were found to be untrue! And another question, why do you seem to feel as though you need to defend Vito. He's the media. He can print and say anything he likes, but with that can come consequences. Being able to run with a story, doesn't mean that the subject of your story won't hold you to it. As for future job opportunities and what that might hold - you don't know. That's the problem - no body knows. It is virtually impossible to defend yourself from a racist allegation in a technology society where nothing ever goes away. One more thing, the quotes from Joseph Miller and Ronny Tipps were not part of the original Dallas Morning New article. That only appeared in the DRC. As for my ability to go into a practice field area - WHO CARES! If I wasn't allowed, which happened under DD who made it clear that he didn't care for any athlete that wasn't his, then I didn't go and it didn't bother me. Like everyone else, I went the DD spring games and that was it. It was his team to what he wanted with and I was fine with that. Also, for the record I went to 1 of TDs practices for 30 minutes during 2 a days and watched the individual drills of the DBs. BTW, I have talked with Vito and that's between me and him. Finally, this thing has gotten way off track. The point is if TD does have problem with Vito (which I don't know if he does), then I can see why. There are enough reasons to see why.
