  1. Ryan Leaf has been placed on indefinite suspension for asking a player for a pain pill. This is slightly NT related as many wanted the current West Texas A&M coach to apply for the NT job 2 years ago.
  2. Hearing a little more... They're saying it is the Bowling Green Community College of WKU.
  3. "Reportedly" shots fired on campus and students warned of danger (Fox News Channel). Not much else reported other than possible armed men (more than one potentially).
  4. Being that my family is from Detroit and are diehard Michigan fans, he would not be a good choice for your example. Have you watched Michigan this year? They've lost at home to Utah and Toledo (the same Toledo that lost at home to FIU). Michigan lost to ND and was just pounded by Penn State. Guess what, everyone up their is not happy but they are all saying he needs time to "get his players in" to fit his system. Remember he's changing from a pro style to spread. Also, it's a little different calling Michigan players "chop liver" when they have been in the top 10 in recruiting every year for the past 20+ years.
  5. Not with APR trouble.
  6. Sounds like a perfect candidate for the school's Green Glory Award. He needs to be nominated with the proper letter of support which shouldn't be hard to find from the people on this board.
  7. Couldn't have said it better myself!
  8. This is why the injury, and subsequent "retirement" of Fentriss, was so huge. He was to be the deep threat. Add in the injury the Jamel Jackson and our speed receivers are gone.
  9. Let me take a little different approach here and not focus on TD but on what RV is saying. Is he going to come out in the media and slam his head coach - no. However, when RV first came here a number of influential people I know tried to get him to fire DD. He told them no and that you don't build a winning team by rotating coaches every few years. We saw what DD, did the next 4 years (this is not a lead into why DD got fired - that's over). All this to say, that RV has a history of giving coaches time to build something even when things are bad. Let's remember, things were really bad under DD before the 4 bowl appearences. Everyone remembers losses to ULM, Baylor, UNLV (I believe Army is in this group as well) all who had 10 plus game losing streaks against D1 teams before beating us.
  10. Your best point! Seriously, a good post and pretty much my thoughts as well.
  11. Now that's something I can agree with. As many have said on posts before, let's get back to a traditional green helmet and traditional uniform! As I wipe the tear from my eye, I miss the green helmet.
  12. I'm not happy with what I'm seeing - it sucks. However, you will have trouble hiring a coach (even an up and coming cordinator) if a coach believes 2 years is his time frame to turn a program around or he's gone. Why would someone come to NT for that?
  13. It doesn't get any lower than this. I'm going to reserve most of my post until I calm down, but I will say this. Scoring 20 points in a game should get you a victory. The team was not prepared to play especially coming from an off week. I think we all believe that Coach DeLoach is a good DC, so after looking at the first 4 games what does that tell us? There is a serious lack of talent on defense. This program/team will go no where in the future until the front 7 is addressed (as many have noted before). As mad as I am and as bad as this was - Dodge does not need to be fired like many are posting. He deserves his time to try and build a program. It takes time to recover from where we were. Do I need to remind everyone of the lowest 7ot scoring total in the history of college football or the 35 pt shut out at Homecoming to a bad MTSU team? We truly were that bad a few years ago and had that little overall talent. We still are bad but there is some talent. Is just most of our talent is very young. I will still give TD until his 1st recruiting class goes through, but we better address the DL or it will continue to be more of the same in the future until a move will have to be made. There are no excuses for today. It is what it is and that is embarrassing.
  14. Coaching my boys' soccer team tonight, I had to convince my asst. coach that we did not bring our soccer program back. He wouldn't believe me!
  15. That was to cover the spread.
  16. Everyone tap the breaks. This is reporter asking the team if they'll overlook us because of our record. This isn't the coach saying that his team IS overlooking us and he's trying to get their attention. Actually, what he was saying was just the opposite - they're 0-3 but look who they've played. I want us to go down to Rice, be competitive and get better. This team's main parts are still very young and I'm holding onto the plan of this ship starting to head in right direction going into Conference. However, let's make no mistake about this, Rice is solid team. Look who Rice has lost to - undefeated Texas and undefeated Vanderbilt who has beaten SoCarolina, Mississippi and Miami (OH). Right now, Rice has more experienced talent than us. It hurts, but it is true.
  17. I didn't see anything wrong with that at all. There was not an illegal chop block and he wasn't setup with a hi/low. He was tripled teamed and got taken to the woodshed. However, if those lineman had played with that type of attitude from the opening kickoff maybe Washington would have some points on the board. You've got to be motivated from the beginning not just when something bad happens.
  18. It's not April Fools Day is it?
  19. I've said this about every coach NT has hired since Dennis Parker - you give them until their first recruiting class goes through as seniors. I'm not saying you don't question games here and there because no one is perfect. However, to really access the merits of what a coach is doing with a program you need to let them get their "guys" spread throughout the program from old to young. As frustrating as the KSU game was, I keep thinking about how young this team is. 62 of the 101 players on this team are freshmen or sophmores. Of that 62, 42 are true freshmen. No matter who the coach is, we still need to give it time before passing judgement.
  20. Ditto. You never ever like to concede anything, but when your special teams have put you behind that far that fast you have to find a way to shorten the game. Now, if you break something quick (i.e. a long run, a special teams play for your team, a turnover) and get the score back down to 14 or 10 before half, you may open it back up. We had veterans who didn't make their normal plays and we had young guys who made young mistakes (especially on kick returns). Hopefully, your veterans will return to their norm and the young guys will grow up and learn and get better. I believe they will and by the time we get to conference hopefully this thing will be rolling. This game should have been more like 28 - 10 not 45 - 6, but if you don't make first downs (especially with all the dropped passes), your defense stays on the field, your offense doesn't get chances and you keep exposing the same special teams that let you down earlier in the game.
  21. I like a man who does his homework. Not only to know who is returning, but to know who has been moved positions and what rank a former DC had the defense in his first go around - impressive.
  22. I definitely know it's football season now. A conference realignment article is always a key that a new season is upon us.
