  1. No way, this team does not have a "go to" guy down the stretch since CJ and JW have been gone.
  2. Hahaha, nicely played my friend. Very underrated.
  3. Thank you for researching and writing this report. As you know, I was friends with TD and even though his time here was a let down, it is often portrayed that he didn't bring in any contributing players. That's just not true. Many were young, too many at the same position and some left before reaching their potential, but there were also some solid players. TD struggled to get the DT's that you must have to win on defense, but all teams are looking for DTs. This is especially true for "smaller named" schools. If you are a beast at DT, then all the big boys want you. And to make it worse, there just aren't a lot of guys that go 6'3+, 275+ and can run! I believe this is a position you must build at a smaller school (taking underweight guys and building them up over 2 years) until you've proven yourself. See TCU... I'm looking forward to seeing how Coach McCarney does in bringing in and developing this most crucial and difficult to find position.
  4. Bingo! If he comes to NT that is awesome and welcome to the family. If not, no reason discussing “what-ifs” or what “could be”. We all (NT alums) can see the merits of a UNT over SMU, but those arguments will take time to permeate their way into Texas high school football. McCarney knows this having gone through the same thing at Iowa St. and recruiting against in state Iowa as well as the Big 10 in the Midwest and the rest of the Big 8 previously. The foundation is being laid, but it will take time for him to solidify UNT as top 2, 3 or 4 destination for Texas high school recruits.
  5. I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't think I've ever seen him step into a throw. EVERY THROW is off his back foot falling away.
  6. MarKeith Knowlton
  7. Yes, that's her name. Thanks, I couldn't remember it. I knew one of our former assistants went to join Karen. I got to know Angela when she was here and she was great. Love to see her back if this is true.
  8. Anyone know the link for the press conference?
  9. This is the best news I've had all day! I haven't seen any scores or heard any news all day while coaching my boys baseball team. I came here to get the real story on the game and see a huge victory. Congrats and let's keep this thing rolling!
  10. Congrats boys! Gutsy performance fending off several Troy runs with a depleted roster. FAU Revenge time!
  11. The NCAA has lifted the ridiculous rule requiring gloves to be gray. The rule allegedly started because teams were wearing gloves the same color as their opponents to prevent holding penalties from being called. Now, schools can wear any color they choose. Since I found this story on the Oregon blog, why do I feel like Nike threw some weight around to get this changed especially considering their Pro Combat uni designs. I guess it's one of the few good things Nike has done for uniforms. OregeonLive.com
  12. There's another issue here as well. TCU lost a home game because of the their leaving to the Big East. They're (MWC)making TCU play at Boise St now. So, TCU lost a home game and is probably not looking to add another tough road opponent.
  13. Posted Today, 07:01 PM The difference is, talk is cheap. In the past it was always just talk. Now we are actually building things and supporting them. So people know it's not B.S. Amen brotha!
  14. After watching his highlights, I hope we take the tcu approach with him. That is, make a big safety an outside lb. I think his frame can hold the weight but I'm worried about his speed for a free safety at the college level. He may need a redshift year to make the adjustment.
  15. As a former db, I take offense to that statement!
  16. I believe the OC at LD Bell is still J.D. Martinez - Former NT OL from 86-90!
  17. It would have been even better if he reminded him that we had 4 conference championships this decade.
  18. I have to say, if true, I'm completly torn on this. Does McCarney have credentials for hc of nt - yes. However, comparing him to coaches of past like some have on the board is pointless and a non factor. I'll support whoever the name is. Is he the best available for the job? Don't know since no one really knows who the other options are except Canales. Now, is he better than Canales as an option? I always support my U, regardless of coach, because coaches come and go and things always work out in the end. But personally, between those two, I'd like to see Canales get his shot.
  19. I've gotten to know Coach Canales and I like him a lot as a person and as a football mind. But in evaluating what he needs to do, I want to look past WKU. Coach Dodge beat WKU the past 3 years. So, here is what I'm looking for: 1. Need to compete with MTSU and Troy. We need to be in these games heading into the 4th quarter. We haven't been close to these 2 teams the past 3 years. I'm not saying we need to win these games, but we need to have a chance late. Needs to beat ULM and be competitive with KSU. 2. I want to see the continuation of Coach C's offensive gameplan. Will we continue to be a spread offensive with emphasis on the run (like vs. WKU) and use play-action pass or will we revert back to the short passing game? Will we get under the center on short yardage? Will he continue to use the TE's, flip the strength, stretch the defense, not be scared to throw into cover 2, etc. Bottom line, will he continue to put "his" stamp on the team. 3. Will the team continue to respond to him once the initial euphoria of change wears off? 4. If DeLoach is gone, what does Coach C. want in a defense? Who would he look at as a Cordinator? 5. Finally, he's not a "big" name in terms of making a hire, but can he recruit? What are his thoughts on recruiting (athlete type, where to look, changing position etc.).
  20. I think I would have to take a good long look at Jim Leavitt, Tyrone Nix and Jay Norvell. TCU's Bumpas is a little older and may not want to move at this point. So, why not look at TCU's OC Anderson? I think any one of the first three would be a fantastic hire.
  21. Gotta raise the $$$, I believe his OC contract with OU is $465,000.
  22. This is always my favorite thread of the year. The Lionel Richie one almost made me cry - funny stuff!
  23. What do you think the NCAA is going to do when they receive our bulk rate package of medical redshirt requests?
  24. You get him snaps whenever you can. Unlike last year, Thompson IS your #2 QB. He's one missed assignment or bad break from being the starter for the rest of the year. Tune may stay healthy the rest of the year (knock on wood) or Thompson could be needed the second play of the Rice game.
  25. That sign is great. Maybe we can fire Lee Jackson and hire Dr. Bataille as Chancellor. At least she has an academic background. Next, begin looking at the regents and follow the trail to Austin. Start looking at motives for why removing the spearhead of our recent and rapid developement would be important and to whom. I've been involved with UNT for 25+ years and every time we are on the verge of taking that one "big" step, we find a way to screw it up. Here we go again... As many have said before, this whole thing just doesn't sit (smell) right.
