  1. We should try to get Royce to help us sew up a Cotton Bowl series during the State Fair with another school. Perhaps he could work with Sen. Rodney Ellis from Houston to try to get a series with UH and find a sponser for the game.
  2. This is primarily Royce West's work. We should be thankful that he is working for us to get the school since he graduated with two degrees from UTA and played football there. The UNT name on the school is what is most important.
  3. If you hit the left arrow on top you will ultimately get to Hawaii. If you look at the MWC you can see that the schools are much closer to us than the WAC.

  5. The announced crowd was 5194.
  6. Casey Fitzgerald had a great touchdown catch of, I believe, 87 yards from Meager. He and Fentriss both looked good at receiver.
  7. With all due respect UNT lifer, don't question my posts like Daddy Dumpsalot. I don't post crap. http://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp...1&CID=99984
  8. I think the WAC opportunity has been sufficiently explained by others . I would like to address the claim that "we would have taken it in a heartbeat". When TCU joined the MWC I asked RV what he thought about it. He made it very clear at that time that he believed they were making a mistake. He cited later starts for sporting events and thus reduced local coverage due to late results, the extended travel times for athletes and the resulting academic hardship, and the cost of travel especially for non revenue sports. Consider that the MWC schools are a lot closer than the WAC schools and you have your answer for why we would not have joined "in a heartbeat". Looking at distance, consider that TCU is closer than La Tech; UNM is closer than NMSU; CSU, AFA, Wyoming and UNLV are closer than all other WAC schools; SDSU, BYU, and Utah are about the same distance as USU; and all other WAC schools are hundreds of miles farther away. In addition the MWC schools are all as close to or closer to major airports. I would prefer the MWC over the SBC, but we have already been in the Big West with a lot of the WAC schools and I don't want to go back.
  9. The reason Fla. State went a different direction from us was a lack of willingness on part of our administration to make a commitment to athletics in the early 1980's. The Denton Record Chronicle has a column every Sunday that highlights what happened 25 years ago that week. Last Sunday, one of the highlighted news events from this week in 1982 was that the NT administration had cut the athletic budget by 30% for 1982-1983. That is how you fall behind. I have heard that Fla. State took a piece of the Fouts Field turf home with them when they upset us in the mid 1970's and it was placed in an area that commemorates special victories. Of course, you should probably check this out with your "Board of Athletic Advisors" member (whatever that is).

  14. I did not claim travel would be better, only that it is a better conference. That being said, Boise, Idaho, Nevada, Fresno, Hawaii, and San Jose are all farther away than the farthest MWC school. Utah State is in a remote rural area not as easily accessible as Utah or BYU. TCU is closer than La Tech and UNM is not much farther than NMSU and is in Albuerque near the airport.
  15. Regarding conference membership, I don't see the WAC as an "opportunity". We turned them down before and certainly should again. I would love to be TCU's travel partner for the MWC and have AFA come here every other year.
  16. We were the second choice behind UTEP for CUSA last time as I posted on the Mean Green Athletics site previously. I attached NT80's response to my post. SMU is not the stumbling block.
  17. They are also the students that are least likely to support UNT in the future. In their world it is all about them.
  18. According to Top Coog on the NCAA BBS Forum we were 1st runner up last time. "Tallgrass and the guys on the cusa board will tell you the same thing. Banowsky brought in a consultant and LT began to slip over a facilities issue. UTEP draws substantial crowds and owns the Sun Bowl, not to mention that it has a good size market. Before it was over LTU actually slipped to third place behind UTEP and UNT."
  19. East Central is in Ada, OK probably not more than 100 miles from Denton near I-35. Richard Rafes, former UNT VP was named their President about a year ago.

  21. SMU had Don Meredith and Roger Staubach at the coin flip for their game against Navy. Since it is Veterans Day weekend perhaps another branch of the armed forces would be willing to salute another with a flyover.
  22. How would you compare Justin Howerton to Justin Barnett? JB was redshirted and played a lot more his first two seasons, but I think Howerton if he continues to improve can be better.
  23. I think Hillary will run a play right out of the Denton High School Playbook called the Time Warp. It is just a jump to the Left (to secure her base), Then a step to the Right (To prove she is no left wing radical), She will put her hands on her Hip (to show she is tough), Then bring her knees in tight (to prove she is no Bill), Then a pelvic thrust (to divert attention from her real agenda). Then she will do it all over again.

  25. Did anyone else notice that Jean-Jacques Taylor of the DMN referred to CUSA as a "bad conference" today in his aricle on the front page of the sports section. I am sure that he has no love for the SBC, but I did find that statement interesting. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...or.396eed1.html
