As with most Big 10 and Big 12 schools, the metroplex is crawling with Indiana grads. They won't have KSU numbers but they will have a respectable representation.

You were an advocate for joining the WAC, which has added a FCS school and a school that has yet to field a football team. In addition the WAC has indicated interest in other FCS teams (ex. Montana). Wright Waters had made it clear that we are not adding FCS teams, that time is over. USA is already in our conference and that is why they are being added.

When Art Briles, who had never coached at the college level before, left Stephenville HS he took a position coach job, I believe RB's, at Texas Tech for one season before going to U of H as Head Coach. Austin is more qualified.

They left out South Alabama and included Texas State and UTSA. UTSA has not yet fielded a football team and USA has.

I just got back from Austin, and last night on the news I was watching they interviewed some guy from a radio station referred to as "The Horn" and he was giving us a lot of props for the here. TCU led the sports but we did get at least 30 seconds of air time.

You must be very young, in my world 57 is not nearly 60. How can you know if he is at the end of his career? I have known people who retired at 50 and those who worked until 90. The suggestion that there may not be a high school kid in the country who recognizes his name is blatantly absurd since he recruits for Florida. When I read posts like yours I realize how glad I am that there are people in charge of this hire who know what they are doing.

I have not spoken to a college football fan regarding this potential hire who did not know who he was or who did not think he would be a good hire. I am not saying they aren't out there, I just have not met them. Most seemed surprised that we could actually afford him.

Wasn't one of the objections to Dodge that he did not know anyone in the business and thus we got stuck with high school assistants? The more crap I read on this board the more I become convinced he must be the right man.

I do not know if it would or wouldn't have a negative impact, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that it is not "silly to think". A single dedicated enemy in the Texas legislature can undermine legislation for the most inane reason or just a perceived petty slight. Not to mention that the Gov can do the same (why do you think he forced a change in our athletic fee legislation?).

I was asked this morning about the hire by a group of individuals I work with (notre dame and Big 12 fans all upper 20's to early 30's) and when I said McCarney, the response was overwhelmingly positive. That is anecdotal but nonetheless interesting. His name was known and he seemed well respected by the 6 or so individuals in the room.

I have opposed joining the WAC every time that it has been mentioned on this board. Nothing has changed.

I would think that the MAC might be an option for LaTech.

I am not that impressed with his recent record either. Where I have a disagreement is in the statement that a FCS coach should not be considered.

Bailiff coached for 3 seasons at TSU-SM and had one (that is 1)winning season.
