We certainly can't have any sprinting to 5-0 around here... How about sprinting to 6-37...?? If we were to go 5-0 at the start of next season we'd name the stadium after him no matter what happened after that...

It is an attractive job for a coach that is willing to be part of a building process... And it's possible that a lot of our wish list of "name" coaches might not be interested in that process... No matter the money... His contention that we are best served hiring young and hungry makes a lot of sense... Someone like that will, hopefully, build the team in his own vision and image... Now, the hard part is find the right one... Much easier said than done...
-
I completely agree... In fact, that is surely what we all want... But WHO is going to do that...?? If money were no object and UNT could hire any coach who would be the one to take them to 12-0...?? Mike Leach? Possibly Dennis Franchione? Very Doubtful Tommy Bowden? Also Doubtful Steve Kragthorpe? No I am just having a hard time coming up with a coach outside of Leach that I think can take this program to a 12-0 season... And, for the record, Leach would not be my first choice for a hire because of the baggage he comes with...

Bower's teams at Southern Miss were tough as nails and always ready to play... He might not be my first choice, but I would be fine with him...

Post Your Head Coaching Bio Here
McKinneyMiner replied to meanJewGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Name: Jeffrey R Georges Age: 42, but I feel older Why I'd be a great head coach: I'm very wishy washy so I can play fans and administrators against one another with the best of them Football is my 3rd language behind English and Esperanto My 11 year old plays football and he thinks I am "the best coach ever" even though I am not his coach Last season I personally willed UTEP to a victory over Houston Why I'd be a terrible head coach: My attention span ain't that great Sometimes I enjoy game day experience too much when I should be focusing on wins In 1976 or so I fell in love with USC's "Student Body Right" play and I'm not sure I would ever call anything else... Coaching Experience: Head Coach University of North Texas Billiard Team 1990-1991 Assistant Coach McKinney Yellow Jackets Youth Football 2009 (unrecognized and unappreciated) Expected Compensation: I have been "had" on the campus of UNT for a lot less than TD is making, so I am very flexible I look forward to your call Rick... -
Brewster's Record Made Worse By Style

I completely agree... My contention was that none of them will show up in Year 2 unless the program gives them a legitimate reason for doing so other than basic curiosity... -
Brewster's Record Made Worse By Style
McKinneyMiner replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
And here is the part that concerns UNT the most... "In July, The Minnesota Daily reported that the University had sold only half of the student tickets for the second-year of TCF Bank Stadium. Days later, a Daily reporter asked Brewster how he felt about the factual statistic. 'In talking with President [bob] Bruininks and Joel Maturi, I don't think there's any slump in our ticket sales,' Brewster said at Big Ten media days in Chicago. 'We think we're going to be sold out.' The stadium has not been sold out for a single game this season, including a hyped matchup with Southern California on Sept. 18." We have a new stadium on the way, but if the program is in shambles no one will be in the seats for year two of that new building... Minnesota's new campus stadium is one of the nicest in the Big Ten and they can't even sell out against USC... Think about that... -

I'm listening... And I agree... If he can recruit Texas I think Jim Leavitt is the man for UNT... That is, however, a BIG if... -
Just Got Home From The Game...
McKinneyMiner replied to McKinneyMiner's topic in Mean Green Football
Right now in the 4th quarter Dunbar has 11 carries and Baine has 16... For a total of 35 yards between them... And, yes, I know some of that is sacks of Baine but I'm just sayin'... This is the way it figures to look for the rest of the season unless Baine suddenly starts airing it out... -
First let me state that I am not in the habit of leaving games at halftime... In fact, this is the earliest I have ever left a UNT game... And the reason I left was simple: They simply have no chance to come back from that deficit... None... Last week against ASU Baine was an unknown commodity and fared reasonably well... This week with game film on him FIU just bottled up the run and dared him to pass... And we found out that he can't... Dunbar is in for a long remainder of the season being as he is really the only offensive threat they possess... He has no chance given that they are keying on him as a runner and as a screen option... Without the benefit of the semblance of vertical passing game UNT is absolutely doomed for the remainder of the year... The quarterback injuries have finally caught up and it figures to only get worse as more tape is available for opponents on Baine... The stupid penalties aren't helping and that I place on the shoulders of the coaches... I think the team has heart, but no discipline... And without discipline they aren't even primed to pull a minor upset... With WKU playing better every week we are staring a 1-11 season in the face and, the end of Dodge Ball... I'd be surprised if they let go of TD before the end of the season, but he's out and there will be some kind of new look next year... I'll be listening to the away games and going to the home games until then... I know I'll regret this post tomorrow and I'll probably revert to some form of my usual optimism, but this is how I feel here and now... And I'm sure I'm not wrong...
-
Just wait... I know it's going to be a road game, but I think we'll be underdogs against WKU this year... Especially if they break their streak before we play...
-
5-7 might be enough to bring TD back (though I wouldn't agree with that decision)... But right now I see no way our undermanned group is going to hang with K-State... And Troy and MTSU aren't looking too winnable either... I'd just like them to stay in these games and show fight and heart...
-
We are not going to win 7 games this year, probably not even 4 or 5... So, there are no "must win" games left in this season... Only opportunities to prove heart and desire and position the team for next season...
-
I am really looking forward to this game... Last week had a couple of complete mysteries going in with Baine and Olen... Both played well and I am really curious to see if that was an abberation or if this week they continue to develop and improve... On Mean Green Insider TD said that Brandon Byrd was going to get about 7-9 carries tonight to take some load off of Dunbar... I liked Byrd in the spring game and am looking forward to seeing a larger dose... And to top it off, tonight will be a battle of the top two defenses in the SBC... Granted there is a large disparity in opponent quality, but the Mean Green defense is miles ahead of the recent past and I think are fun to watch... Let's avoid that first drive touchdown tonight, however... Okay...?? Okay... I know this season has been a downer, but I am still really looking forward to tonight and every other game on the schedule... And I think we will win this game... Crazy...?? Perhaps... GO... MEAN... GREEN...!!

Actually there is another facet to this I didn't consider when I initially posted... There are 4 teams that, while I don't actively follow them or anything, I refuse to root against... Army, Navy, Air Force and Marshall... I cannot and will not root against a service academy for any reason... And I have a huge soft spot for Marshall because of the tragedy they endured in the 1970's and the great job they did bringing their program back to national relevance... When any of these teams plays UNT or UTEP will always want UNT and UTEP to win, but I will never actively root against them...
-
I actually have to admit that UNT IS my 2nd team... Until the day I die I will be a UTEP Miner... I was going to their games when I was kid with my father and after attending UNT for 4 years I ended up graduating from there when I had to return to El Paso to take care of my mother... I am an incredibly passionate UNT fan and I love going to the football games as a season ticket holder and other games as time allows... I often pine for the day when UNT and UTEP will meet again either in basketball or football... On that day someone is going to get a free pair of tickets while I join the side in orange... And the next game I will be right back in green and yelling my lungs out... All that being said, I couldn't really care less about any other teams... I'll watch college sports with a lot of interest, but I don't really care at all who wins...
-
"On the ropes" does not begin to describe the position Locksley is in at UNM... More like 17 uppercuts and now lying face down in a pool of his own urine and aspirations...
-
Busy day for me today as I watch my 4th grader play at 2:40, catch the Rangers on the radio on the way from McKinney to Denton and then a wonderful evening of college football... I have a feeling about Baine tonight... Don't know why, just a feeling... I LOVE this time of year... I might even take the neck brace off for a while tonight... Feelin' that crazy... GO MEAN GREEN...!!

There are copies to be found on the Internet for as low as about $10.00 hardback... I did a search for it on Bookfinder and came up with multiple listings...

I am all for JUCO talent to fill in gaps when the talent is thin... But, as far as quarterbacks go, when the big boys have plucked the Cam Newton's of the world off the board what is really left...?? I would say that although it might be necessary to plug in a JUCO QB while your younger, more talented players get their bearings, I doubt UNT can find someone who is going to provide them with the talent and leadership that is going to translate into more wins... There are some really good JUCO QB's, but they tend to go to the big schools to fill in THEIR gaps... What does that really leave us with...??
