Question For Lurking Isu Fans
McKinneyMiner replied to Texas Stranger's topic in Mean Green Football
Please no... Those things Boise and VT were wearing against each other were HORRIBLE... -
Dan McCarney is no dummy... This might be the best hire he makes as a coach here... Well done CDM...!!
-
None of the coaches before Mitchell were head coaches before or after their time at North Texas...

An Attendance Nightmare For The New Orleans Bowl
McKinneyMiner replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know about FIU, but UTEP historically travels very well to bowl games... I will be attending with four family members, and I know at least a few thousand DFW alums alone that will go to the game... I have been to UTEP's last 2 bowl games (Houston Bowl and GMAC Bowl) and there was a lot of orange in the crowd... Now FIU being the opponent isn't as romantic as playing Colorado like they did in 2004, but I think there will be a decent Miner turnout... -
I think the Big East is hoping that Villanova will make the jump to D1 so that they can simply promote a member school from within and won't have to go looking for anyone... If Villanova wins a 2nd consecutive FCS title I think they are very likely to approve the jump to D1...

Okay, that's just dumb scheduling... That COULD happen anywhere but, like you said, it is only a problem here... But I doubt there is a campus arena anywhere where the athletic department controls scheduling... Just doesn't make sense in the big picture with concerts, commencements, etc...
-
Certainly that must be true of almost all campus facilities across the country...

According to RPI Ratings Big East: 54 NBA players Sun Belt: 5 NBA players and, Mountain West: 10 NBA players

Yes, Marquez is playing in France now...

Well, they haven't played Our Lady... BUT, they have played Texas Lutheran, Texas-Tyler, Hardin-Simmons and St. Edwards... I agree that at this point UTA needs to be treated respectfully, but this is the type of team UNT needs to handle if they have any hope of getting things like at-large bids to the NCAA tournament...
-
UTA has perhaps the most deceiving 5-1 record in America at the moment... In fact, they are 1-1 against teams with a legitimate pulse... A bad loss at Oregon St. (who lost to Texas Southern) and a road win over winless Houston Baptist... The rest of their games have been against a slew of lower division opponents, all from Texas and all at home... It's very hard to gauge this game because there is nothing to analyze except the Oregon St. game... With that as a measure I would say UNT should win this one... Relatively easily...

Espn Dallas Reporting Mccarney Offer From Unt
McKinneyMiner replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I cannot even express how sick I am going to be if Chico goes to ULL or ASU and gets them turned around... I have a feeling he is going to go somewhere and be really successful, but if it is a conference foe it will taste unmentionable... I didn't think so before, but after the game today I think we are letting our best candidate for the head coaching position walk off campus... -
Final game of the year... Big 12 opponent... Last game at Fouts Field... A nip in the air... I will be there... Go Mean Green...!!

In 2003-2004 Utah St. was 25-3 and 17-1 in the Big West... They lost to Cal-St. Northridge in the conference tournament and had road losses to Utah amd Pacific... Only the loss to Northridge was to a team that didn't play in the NCAA Tournament... They were denied an at-large NCAA bid and played in the NIT where they lost their first game to Hawaii... Now every team from a non-BCS conference sweats an at-large bid... NOTHING is guaranteed unless you win your tournament...

Nah, but we did a jumping chest bump right there in the row... And he might have slipped into a slight robot dance as well...

Oh, you're not leavin' are ya? No, we're walking in backwards.

I am a big fan of that one too... I am partial to: What do you do? I'm a neurosurgeon, you? I'm a prizefighter. Do you know much about boxing? No... I'm the heavyweight champion of the world. Stone cold genius... LOL

Florida Gators Discuss Mccarney To Unt Rumor
McKinneyMiner replied to eulessismore's topic in Mean Green Football
A college sports message board where the fans are saying a coach is under-performing? Get out... -
Last night was the first chance I have had to see the basketball squad in person and here are a few impressions I have... First, thanks to everyone who steered me on where to park... Very helpful and I had no issues... Well, as my 10-yr old and I were walking into the Pit trying to figure out where to buy some tickets, a woman came up to us and offered us a pair gratis... Section 108 Row J... VERY nice...!! ESPN has the attendance at around 3400... I thought, for the most part, that the 3400 acquitted themselves nicely... The Pit Crew did a fantastic job of getting people back into the game in the 2nd half when it looked like Rice might run away and hide... At the end most people were standing and I only got a few dirty looks from the people behind us... Seriously people, if you can't stand in the last couple of minutes when the teams are going back and forth then I just don't know what to say... As for the team, I think any honest estimation of UNT at this point would say that there is a lot of work to be done... Rice is a decent well-coached team, but they are the type of team we need to be able to take care of and not sweat the last 5 minutes... There is a lot of talk on this board about RPI and a home loss to a group like Rice would be horrible for RPI... Rice will have a losing season and I doubt will win a whole lot of C-USA games... That being said, the team showed a lot of heart after the Owls got hot with their 3's and started to pull away a little... We did a good job in the 2nd half of getting on #32 and not letting him bomb those wide open 3's... And I think UNT is going to win a lot of close games because of free throw shooting... Game-long intensity could use some work... One final note: I sat next to a small group of Rice fans who were lustily cheering #20 and became more vocal as the Owls started to build a lead... At one point one of the girls yelled, "Go Rice!"... My son looked at her and said, "'Go Rice'? Isn't that like saying 'Go Voldemort?' He got some big-time eye daggers shot at him for the rest of the game... LOL All-in-all a great game... See you next Tuesday...

I wonder how big that list is... Even I could make a list of 5 candidates (Leach, Fran, Leavitt, Bower and Canales) and tell the University, "if you hire one of these guys you'll probably make out okay"... Certainly for his fee he must narrow it down to a favorite of his and then the University debates that against their own favorites...
-
From that article he actually has as really good record... However, I don't see any schools of our size and budget on that list... Is it harder to find the right fit for a program of our stature...??
-
Losing to us at home last year certainly didn't endear him to the hardened alums OR the casual fan...
-
They won't tow out of Clark on a weeknight...?? Is school in session this week...??
-
This will be the first weeknight game I have been to in some time... Where do the fans normally park for weeknight games...?? I am afraid I might park in an active lot and get towed or something...

He is not necessarily the perfect guy for the job... But I would argue he is the perfect "type" guy for the job...
