There are only 2 college teams I care about... UNT and UTEP... I grew up in El Paso but attended UNT for 3 years before I finally went back to El Paso for personal reasons and graduated from UTEP... I have been a UTEP fan all my life and a UNT fan all my adult life... Frankly being a fan of either is a bit of a kick to the balls as another poster put it... But, I root for laundry... I will always be a UTEP fan and I will always be a UNT fan... Nothing will shake me from either... And nothing, but nothing, will ever convince me to be a fan of UT or Alabama or USC or Ohio St. or Notre Dame, etc... I didn't go to school at those places and I didn't grow up in those communities... I could not possibly care less about the fortunes of those schools and teams... So, I wouldn't say it is impossible to be a fan of UNT... I consider it to be a privelage to be a member of the Mean Green Nation... And while things haven't always been that great, I will still be a fan when they are... And I am positive that I will feel more alive then than I do now with the current feeling of having been kicked in the balls...

If I am reading this correctly, that site is basically saying there is an 83.7% chance that either MTSU or Denver wins the tournament, which seems a little high to me... In fact, if someone were to approach me with a bet whereby they would take the 2 favorites and I would take the field I might have to put a few shekels in the box on that proposition... I think there is a much higher chance than 16.3% that a team other than those two wins the tournament...

Stunning that he squirmed his way into a conversation about UNT basketball, but Vagas Ferguson was a Notre Dame halfback in the 1970's who was drafted in the first round of the 1980 NFL draft by the New England Patriots... He then went on to a singularly undistinguished career... I'm not sure why we are going to him, but he was one of my childhood heroes...

The Vic Trilli years need an asterisk by them... I'm not sure for what, but something to indicate that things weren't right...

During the football season someone on here asked if there was a college basketball equivalent to the excellent http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com... Last night I was on http://www.sports-reference.com and found that they have a really good college basketball section... Here is the direct link to UNT page... http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/north-Texas/ Have fun...

CUSA contacts Temple: Merger changes weekly
McKinneyMiner replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
In 2009-2010 UTEP lost in the final of the C-USA tournament to Houston and still received an at-large invite... They lost to Butler in the first round 77-59 (after being ahead by 6 at the half)... And, ancient history I know but, UTEP on Saturday night is honoring their 1992 Sweet Sixteen team that beat #1 Kansas... And of course there is the 1966 National Championship team... Also ancient history, however... -
Back-to-Back SBC Honors For Tony Mitchell
McKinneyMiner replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We can call him 2-Time Defending Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week and not even think twice about it... He's been all that was advertised and maybe more... -
If you consider Louisville a body bag game for FIU, then certainly Arizona is one for ULL... Arizona had a down year this year, no doubt about it... But before the season began I guarantee you the line on Arizona and Louisiana was off the board... The Wildcats would have been prohibitive double-digit favorites at home, ie. a body bag game... What is encouraging is that Sun Belt teams are taking these games against second-tier BCS schools on the road and either acquitting themselves nicely or actually winning... It speaks to the direction of the Belt and the commitment of it's member schools to fielding nationally competitive teams... That being said, if they can afford it, Sun Belt teams should try and stay away from games against the Alabama's, LSU's, Oklahoma's, etc... They aren't winnable games and the outcomes have the potential to be a black eye on the conference if things get out of hand, which they often do...

My son and I were wearing ours in Section 205 and NO ONE else was wearing them... The UNT Angels were sitting in front of us and they cheered mightily when the video board showed a picture of them all wearing shades, but they weren't wearing them at the game... It was really disappointing... I thought this was a great promotion that was so easy to participate in... There's just so much apathy...

Bowl eligibilty means just that... You have the minimum number of wins necessary for you to be eligible to get an invite... In no way does it imply that you are guaranteed to be invited or even considered for a bowl game... Last year 2 teams who were bowl eligible were left out... 6-6 Western Michigan was certainly no surprise... But, 8-4 Temple was flat out snubbed... Their 8 wins included a 30-16 pounding of Big East champion Connecticut... What killed Temple was the fact that they don't draw well at home, and gained a reputation as a team that doesn't travel well when they had a pitiful fan showing at the 2009 EagleBank Bowl where they lost to UCLA... More goes into bowl invites than just wins and losses... A bowl has to try and make money, so it wants teams that have large fan bases that will travel... And usually the best way to assure that is for the bowl game to be reasonably close and easy to get to... As opposed to the Humanitarian Bowl... Or even the Hawaii Bowl... Personally I am of the opinion that 7-5 should be the bare minimum for bowl eligibility, but since there are so many bowls they have to fill them with 6-6 teams... If UNT gets invited to a bowl game with a 6-6 season, great... It gives me one more game to watch... But I don't expect it and, deep down, I don't really think they deserve it...

The service academies are 3 schools I absolutely refuse to root against no matter who they are playing, even UNT... I wanted UNT to beat both Navy and Army in recent games, but I couldn't root against... I hope all 3 make bowl games every year... That being said, I was merely stating a way for the Belt to get a 4th bowl team...
-
One thing that could help the Belt get an extra team into bowl, whether it be UNT or WKU is the down year the service academies are having... They are automatically tied to at least one bowl and I think maybe a second one... Right now Army can finish no better than 5-7... Navy has to win out to finish 6-6... If Air Force were to lose out they would finish 5-7... So, it is conceivable that there will be no service academies in bowl games this year... That's how the Belt gets an extra bowl team...

Ah, I didn't see that game against Huston-Tillotson in January... But how utterly bizarre to have an exhibition 2 months into the season...
-
St. Gregory's and Oklahoma City both play NAIA in the Sooner Conference... Why is the game against OCU an exhibition and the game against St. Gregory's for real...?? Anybody know what the current rules for exhibitions are...?? I also see that the game is considered an exhibition for St. Gregory's...

Plumm... That is exactly right... I am 42 and after the Indiana game my 10-yr old wanted to go down on the field and I wouldn't let him... He MIGHT have been okay to go over the wall, but I didn't have a lot of confidence that I would be... And I actually believe that game was an appropriate time to rush the field being the first Apogee win, etc... I just hope it doesn't become a "thing" to do... Dangerous and kind of silly in my opinion if done while players and staff are still on the field and you have to scale walls to get there...
-
Granted we don't have the same size crowds they do, nor the media attention, but the writer brings up some good points about safety and how appropriate it is for fans to be down on the field after a game while players and staff are still there... http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2011/10/ducks_insider_its_time_for_ore.html#incart_mce

The FIU team that beat us, Louisville and UCF just doesn't exist anymore... I thought they had a great chance for double digit wins and were easily the favorites in the Belt... Now they look slow and stale... What a difference a few weeks makes...

I was reading on here how everyone was getting calls from Coach Mac about the game time change and was wondering why I hadn't received one... Am I not important? Is my money no good? Is my deodorant not working? And then I got an email message saying that (for the first time ever) a voice message had been placed in my voicemail spam folder (did not even know such a thing existed)... Sure enough Coach Mac's message was there... And an explanation from YouMail saying that they had pre-screened the message by attempting to ask Coach Mac about the play calling and McNulty... Since he wasn't being forthright, he went straight to spam... Great to know that YouMail provides this valuable service...

Speaking of scarves, I saw a guy in the gift shop wearing one but I never did see one in the shop for sale... Anyone know where I can get one of these...??

NTEX and NT03... My 10-year old is definitely a fan for life... He gets incredibly pumped for these games and he cheers louder and longer than anyone anywhere near us... And he refuses to leave early... He says "True Fans" don't leave until the final whistle... He's reminding me of what a true fan is... LOL I was ready to leave with a few minutes left and the outcome decided...

Morris was indeed a load to bring down AFTER they were down 31-0 and we had gone into our soft defense or whatever you want to call it... In fact, he was a completely different player in the late 3rd and 4th quarters... But, when the game result was in it's infancy he was a complete non-factor...

1. Disappointing Attendance - My son and I passed a group of what appeared to be sorority girls and heard one of them comment she wasn't going in the stadium because, "it isn't worth getting wet"... Uh boy... 2. Shout out to the friendly ticket staff for reprinting my tickets that I left on the kitchen counter in McKinney... Glad I am a season seat holder and can easily prove who I am... 3. Great performance by the defense...! When the game needed to be taken, they grabbed with both hands... 4. Alfred Morris is the best garbage time runner in the country... Look at the stats and it looks like he had a monster game... I guarantee you that guy didn't have 20 yards total before the score was 31-0... 5. My 10 year old refused to leave until the very end... And he sat out in the rain without seeking cover... So, yes the offense is struggling... But this team has won both of it's winnable games... I don't think 6-6 or 7-5 is at all out of the question...
