UNT lands key recruit Raveon Hoston!
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Our loss, but I can understand what might have led him to make that decision given the facts. Had he chosen someone else I might be really pissed. Best of luck to him and I hope he sniffs the field in order to get a look at the next level. I think Bama sold him on that narrative. EDIT: But Wait! I was just teasing guys. Raveon!!- 165 replies

BINGO!! This is a case of deja vu all over again. Raider nailed it, folks. Refresh your memory with this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baylor_University_basketball_scandal

I just checked to see what I did then. "Texas Independence Day" was written by me and circled. So I guess that is the hallowed event to which you refer, sir.

Give Mr. Wallace credit for trying to get a shot. Unfortunately, if this technique proves successful it will set a dangerous precedent and the Cowboys wouldn't want to acknowledge that. Hopefully, someone there will be moved to at least review some film and look at his paper stats to see if he was somehow overlooked. I think they might view him as being undersized. I would guess his position coach was Cosh, so ...

They will all be amphibians! It is a damned shame that this event will be impacted by the weather. On the bright side, Coach will know which athletes really want to be there.

Pretty much agree. I was beginning to think he was going to be part of the problem. Now I'm beginning to think that it is just his management style to keep a low profile. The wheels seem to turn pretty slow in our organization (Baylor is another example) but apparently decisions do get made. The total silence for months made for uncomfortable thoughts and speculation.

After today's email was received, I went online and checked my account to be sure my renewal was on record. It was. I wouldn't risk stirring the pot and ending up FUBAR.
-
...the more they stay the same. Got the regular email from the MGC. The renewal deadline is June 30 and you will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Here is an excerpt: Other Prizes Include: 4 club seats to a mutually agreed upon game, 2 on-field passes for 1st quarter of mutually agreed upon game, and a mini-helmet signed by Coach Seat Littrell

George Dunham discussed Hank as AD in KTCK

I agree with you but I reserve the right to express my opinion. Also, if the new AD makes a shit sandwich I reserve the right not to eat it. -
Plenty of skidmarks on the Baylor laundry, that's for sure. Until I looked up his bio I didn't realize that McCaw has been entrenched at Baylor since 2003.

VERY well said, Rick. Too many of the current generation do not even recognize the significance of this holiday. I know this first-hand from interraction with some of them this past week. May we never forget!

It's Mean Green Night At The Ball Park In Arlington

Well, they lead us 29-5-1 lifetime in the series, but in games played in the last 25 years, we are 3-3. The series on the books now has the potential to rev up the emotions between us and SMUt and is therefore a good thing. I am afraid, however, that unless we can run off a string of several wins against them the SMUtsters will consider us to be a minor annoyance. I consider them to be a hated rival but I doubt the feelings will be mutual until that series record evens up a little. Perhaps some day in the future we will be in a position to piss on their parade by knocking them out of bowl-eligibility or some other prize that was in reach for them. When that happens, it will be ON.

We'll give him the benefit of the doubt...he obviously hasn't been practicing off a mound. :) -

A nasty slider, low and on the outside edge? -
You are correct sir! The answer is not just to milk money out of more people and throw it at the problem. The answer is for the Department to pay serious attention to customer administration and promotion of the athletic product, while the coaching staff gives them a product they can promote. When people see this on a consistent basis, the milk will flow from many more contributors without having to pull so hard on those teats. That's just my opinion and I believe it will start to happen this year if the right person is hired as AD. It all begins there.

Reports out that Art Briles will be fired at 11 am
EagleMBA replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I find myself thinking that the fall may take several seasons. Bennett will probably do a decent job in the near term, predicated on his ability to keep the staff together. His talent level will probably stay high for a couple of years, if the NCAA doesn't drop the bomb. If the NCAA DOES move quickly and nukes them, then they are dead meat quickly.- 116 replies

MGB: Some thoughts on where UNT goes from here
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Not invented here (NIH) is a stance adopted by social, corporate, or institutional cultures that avoid using or buying already existing products, research, standards, or knowledge because of their external origins and costs. The reasons for not wanting to use the work of others are varied, but some can include fear of patent infringement, lack of understanding of the foreign work, an unwillingness to acknowledge or value the work of others, jealousy or forming part of a wider turf war.[1]As a social phenomenon, this philosophy manifests as an unwillingness to adopt an idea or product because it originates from another culture, a form of tribalism.[2] The term is normally used in a pejorative sense. The opposite predisposition is sometimes called "proudly found elsewhere" (PFE)[3] or "invented here". We don't have the "right stuff" internally, folks. We must find the best solution on the market wherever we find it subject to a budget we can afford, IMHO.
