My experience has always been similar to NT91's. It has always amazed me when you consider that there is a tremendous resource available to them in the form of COBA's marketing faculty. Geez, why don't they spread just a few bucks on some grad students to conduct a quick review and seminar for them. Someone in the department needs to know the value of a customer and how to find, treat and retain one. I'll shut up and go back to work now.

Shane, and others who may want to know, I had mine resized once. I think you can get a refurb too, if your stone is messed up. It was quick and cheap, but I don't remember exactly how much. I made an inquiry at the campus bookstore and they gave me the Josten's info I needed to get the work done. Do it, Shane, you'll be glad you did.

This old eagle has a Josten's circa 1989 that was supposed to be the "official" ring (forever and ever, amen; just like some logos we have had). It has an interlocking NT on one side below an eagle, and an interlocking NT on the other side below the MBA. Seal of the university is on the top, with a CZ in the center. "University Of North Texas" scrolls around the outside edge of the top. The shape is a rounded rectangle. I get many comments, women have asked to try it on, and I have caught several looking at it when they think I'm not noticing. Unfortunately, most of them have not been very hot; it would have to say that my ring is a skag magnet!

WE WILL BE TEARIN DOWN FIELD GOAL POSTS
EagleMBA replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
The act of tearing down the goalposts is reserved for truly passionate, spontaneous outbursts. What I see being talked about here is nothing more than a premeditated act of vandalism. Let me clarify my thoughts: a. The Idahoars come into our house and play lights out for 59 minutes; we trail by 4 points in the last minute of the game, when our defense forces a fumble; we recover and move 73 yards in 3 plays to win the game as the final gun sounds; we preserve our winning streak, our conference championship, and our bowl bid; THE FRIGGIN' GOALPOSTS COME DOWN!!! b. Jamario has 280 yards at the end of the third quarter and Kevin gets some PT; Scott has thrown 1 TD to Andy, 1 TD to Zach, and 3 TDs to the Mighty Quinn; the scoreboard reads UNT 56, I, Da-Ho 17; if the goalposts are TOUCHED it is vandalism! Do you get it? -
The only analogy to a skunk I can think of is "This OOC losing is like making love to a skunk...I've had all of it I can enjoy!"

Beware the wounded tiger!!!

Nobody does the National Anthem better than CaraBear!! Truth! And I told my lady that the band wouldn't be there but with all the talent on campus there would surely be someone good to do the National Anthem; another "aw$hit". Hard to understand why they would turn down CaraBear's offer.
-
OH $hit!! I'm bringing someone who has never seen a game in the Pit. I have been talking about how much fun it is with the band, Scrappy, etc. Sounds like tonight will be a bad first experience for her. How can we build a gate when the folks don't get the full treatment? I'll be there but I will have to backtrack on my sales job and make excuses on the whole drive up. Have had the pleasure of seeing us beat the Aggies the last two years and hope I get to see it again!

Move the tipoff time back to 7:35 pm and pick up the Dallas supporters if you want more attendance. Until that happens, I'm listening to the radio call. I miss being there, but I just can't take the stress of fighting my way up I-35 after work and still enjoy the game; there must be a few hundred just like me.

How many games will you make this year?
EagleMBA replied to Gakusei's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I ditto UNTX, and I have posted that same reason at least twice before. HELLO...IS ANYONE IN ATHLETICS LISTENING? READING THIS THREAD? I support JJ, I support our players, but I physically cannot attend except on Saturdays. Pisses me off too! -
Andrew and Scott both looked like they lost their poise a few times during the game. Both can scramble, but Scott seems to be more accurate when passing off the rollout. I like Andrew's arm but we didn't use it, so Scott's was plenty good. I think I lean toward Scott because of intangibles. Scott seems to be more in command in the huddle and get the most out of the team when he is in there. Let them compete to see who can put the most points on Baylor and WE ALL WIN! Just one request: When the ball is kicked off, I want to see no quarter given! If the Green Brigade can whump it up in time, I would love to hear the brass section sound the Deguello, like the Mexicans did before the final charge at the Alamo! Whoever is in the huddle must take it to Baylor.

I earned my BBA at Pan American (now UTPA). Excellent basketball history and will be no pushover for us. Poorest record last year in many years but they have a good coach and were very competitive. I had the privelege to live in the same dorm with, and know, Lucious Jackson; he was the MVP of the '64 Olympics team and NBA rookie of the year with the 76ers. They came to the Super Pit many years ago (70's) but I could never figure out why we stopped the series. RE: travel, that 225 miles from San Antonio to Edinburg IS full of nothing. I'll bet they will just fly into McAllen (airport is only 10 miles from the campus). The Valley is a nice place but it is almost the end of the earth!

Do you plan to buy BB Season Tickets Next Year?
EagleMBA replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I would LOVE to buy season tickets. The only reason I didn't do it last year, and the only reason I won't do it THIS year, is because of the tipoff time. A 7:00pm tipoff makes it so hard and stressful to get to Denton from Dallas that it ruins the game for me. I will only buy Saturday tickets this year. -
Coincidence?
EagleMBA replied to EagleMBA's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Actually, CMJ, Denver had an equal chance in this drawing. Look at how many times the Mavericks were in the lottery (3, 4?) and never got higher than about the fifth pick. I think I read that the team with the worst record hasn't gotten the first pick since 1990. Statistically, each year there would (or should) have been an equal chance to get the first pick (that is, equal based on the weighting not truly "equal"). I guess we can say that this year's worst team was "due". -
Let's see now: 1. Cleveland Cavaliers suck BAD; become a lottery team. 2. LeBron James, high school phenom, is caught working out with the pros. 3. Said high school phenom decides to go for NBA draft instead of college, thereby improving intellectual pool of both. 4. Phenom lives in Akron, OH, a relatively close location to Cleveland. 5. NBA has drawing for first pick in draft. 6. First ball drawn belongs to Cavaliers. Coincidence? Only David Stern knows for sure.

Thank God Almighty that this is one position where we have a problem figuring out how to get all the talent on the field. If it does work out to be true I'll be very sad for the individual, BUT the team's performance won't suffer IMHO.

NT walk on BB guard to transfer..Boxell going Lubb
EagleMBA replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I liked his game and thought he could develop into a good player for us. His father obviously coached him well. We wish him the best but I wish he was still wearing green. -
Chris, I watched you play during every season at UNT. You represented UNT, yourself, and your family exceptionally well. You deserve every honor you have received, and more. I wish you every success in your career.

Thinking ahead to hosting the conf tourney..
EagleMBA replied to UNT96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I believe that JJ will have the team competing for the conference championship and the bid to the Big Dance by then. I DO believe it! Also, I thought it was standard practice to pitch the total tournament package as a "season pass" and price it so that anyone who wanted to buy as many as three session tickets would find it more attractive financially to just buy a pass to the whole thing. I admit that I am not aware of this year's tournament ticket structure because there was no interest here in going to Kentucky for a few days. You have to feel that the feeling is mutual and so we will have to market heavily to basketball fans in Dallas and Fort Worth that would like to see good basketball played, regardless of the teams. There ARE people out there like that. Maybe with the Big 12 tournament being here this year and next it will kindle some interest and people will be looking for a "fix" when it goes back to KC in 2005. We can tap that. -
I feel gutted...I feel like I took a Mike Tyson low blow...say this isn't true.

Island, it's going to be much better. Saw RV at the South AL game. He says JJ is zeroed in on some outside scoring talent that will complement the inside guys we already have in the fold. When other teams have to guard our three-point shot, we will have success. And it starts next season.
-
Here's my two cents. JJ is the real deal and he has done well under the circumstances. He has proven to me that he can coach in adversity as well as when the ball is bouncing our way. How crucial was the loss of Hopkins? If we had the power to add just six more points per game, we would improve our record by four wins. Nine more points of offense per game would pick up three more wins, our season record to date would be 14 - 10, and our conference record would be 8 - 4. With all of the difficulties the team has experienced this year, they are not that far away from having a much better record. Mega credit to all the guys for hanging tough and keeping a positive attitude, and an extra portion to JJ and his staff for keeping them motivated and striving for improvement. I'll be there tonight for CD's last game in the Pit and I will be proud of our team.

I have a favorable impression of Unjel as an individual and I hope he is not undergoing a terrible personal/family crisis. I appreciate his service and wish him well. As a player, I saw him have several what I thought were good games, a few bad games, and a lot of ho-hum games. I never thought he was sufficiently assertive for the position he played and the body he has. But that is just one fan's opinion. I still think he could contribute, but maybe he's unhappy with diminished minutes and spot play. I would guess he could feel himself being moved further down the bench from JJ and didn't feel he could fight his way back. I don't have any special information, that's strictly SWAG.

I used to observe Trilli and I have observed JJ this year and last. JJ is the MAN...period. There is no contest concerning bench-coaching ability. JJ appears to be a great teacher, he damn sure knows the game, he has assembled a super staff around him, he has all the makings of a super-recruiter (if you've ever spoken with him, you know what I mean) and we're damned lucky to have him. I think the MG faithful are not restless because they see JJ like I do. Give him two more recruiting classes and we should be kicking ass in the conference. With injuries and defections, JJ is having to play youngsters before their time. Can you visualize a lineup that includes Davis, Erskin, Miller and Hopkins? Whole different season! This reminds me of what DD went through. When you see JJ, give him a smile and a thumbs-up.
