Forget the shootout. The real game today is
EagleMBA replied to meangreendork's topic in Mean Green Football
Our next opportunity for "someday" comes on October 29, 2005. -
Yeah, JQ made a mistake that cost us in the Troy game. But his mistakes are hustle mistakes and rarely bad decisions. I want JQ in my lineup for four quarters every game.

I don't think this team can pull it together enough to become bowl eligible. I don't think we are bowl material and if we don't win the conference we have no business going bowling. I can do without seeing another embarrassing loss in prime time. Having said that, we don't love this team any less, we should just recognize that this year is going to be a painful growing process. If DD gives the minutes to the right guys this year, the men should be back in the hunt next year and playing the kind of football to which we have become accustomed seeing. Just showing some life and being highly competitive will be enough for me the rest of the way this year after the dismal start.

Oh, by the way. The man who owns the company I work for has a saying which applies here. Whenever he asks me about when I will have finished a project or have a report for him, and if I reply something like "I hope it will be finished by Thursday", he says to me HOPE IS FOR CHURCH ! Therefore, I say to all of you that are hoping to win tonight, "hope is for church". Say "We are going to do whatever it takes to insure victory tonight!".

Attendance: 14,000 on a perfect night for the game. Don't want to think about the number if there is a little sprinkle. 5,000 of those won't make it into the stands until the end of the first quarter due to traffic. Score: UNT 21 Troy 10
-
Won't be able to leave the action until 5:00ish, so Mrs. Eagle and I will have to fight our way to Denton through the damned traffic. I hope to be there before the kickoff, but I doubt it. It takes an hour on Saturday afternoon when I can cross the Bush at 80 MPH. We will get there, even though it's damned tempting to watch it on the tube.

The WSJ is not JUST for academic performance. In addition, there is considered extracurricular activities and service to the school and community. Nick should be considered as a contributor on several fronts...a solid citizen.
-
I think it is a school's departmental decision whether or not to participate, which would account for some schools not listed. Having said that, it IS an honor to be given that award. I congratulate Nick for his fine work. In 1969, I received the WSJ Student Achievement Award at Pan American College (now UT-Pan American). It would have been even more meaningful if they had thrown in a case or two of Shiner.

BEND OVER !! KSU 42 UNT 10 I have NEVER BEFORE picked against my Mean Green. Just sure as hell as I do this, we'll pull an upset. There's a method to my madness.
-
They were there, with friends. I passed a couple spare tickets to them. Perhaps you didn't recognize them "out of uniform".
-
rcade, you're correct. That did not have anything to do with my point, which was he should stay home if he does not want to be disturbed by a little noise. IT IS A FOOTBALL GAME!!! The a$$hole was drinking, in the stadium, and I should have ratted him out to retaliate...I'm just not that type. Emmitt and Rudy were three or four rows in front of him and making WAY more noise than me...wonder why he didn't bitch at them?

Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser. I ain't pulling up stakes but I ain't happy either.

Saw 65 - 0 on the road; saw 54 - 2 at home. I can brag that I* saw the two worst defeats in modern history. They both felt about the same. It took me weeks to get over the last one, thank God we're not at home again this week. With any luck we'll have 12,000 for Tuesday night TV game. There was a lot at stake in this game to make a good showing. I think the coaches and the players both quit on us for the night in the third quarter. I think it is insanity to keep going back to that screen to Pat and/or flat pass to Pat when it was obvious they were sitting on that play all night. How many times are we going to try that? The MUTS covered it too. Tear that page out of the playbook NOW and come up with something else. I think the gay caballero in Sec E - Row 16 who bitched because I was making too much noise two rows away from him should be pimp slapped. Without my bride's intervention I might have committed a personal foul last night and been ejected from the game. His boyfriend kept treating the crowd to "the plumber's smile" all night. It's no wonder noone said anything when they left early with their car keys in plain sight and forced them to come back twice to look for them before they found them. People like that should stay home. Ya'll can tell I had a wonderful time yesterday. I DO NOT LIKE TO LOSE !!! I DO NOT LIKE OUR TEAM TO LOSE!!! I CANNOT STAND FOR NT TO BE UNCOMPETITIVE!!! That's what I think.

E - 18 - Seats 7&8 The Mrs. has a MEAN first-down signal so watch your head if you're in row 17!

This old Eagle sez: UNT 31 TU 21 The D does a good job again this week. The coaches finally teach our guys how to cover a tight end across the middle and Mills gets gator arms. The O comes alive and J-Mo gets more touches, resulting in a big day for him. He and Pat combine for 300 yards on the ground, allowing Meager to throw 2 TD passes off playaction. And I'll get to watch it all from Sec E, Row 18!!! Mark it down!

Coming from Garland/Richardson with new wife, new daughter-in-law and new grandson. First college football game for daughter-in-law and grandson (5)! New son-in-law and his wife (both Teasips) wimped out on us for a drive to San Antonio to see her folks; I think they thought it was too rinky-dink to attend a NT game. Going to try again with them for the Troy game. You can lead a Horn to water but you can't make him drink!

What time is everyone going to Fouts on Saturday ?
EagleMBA replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
As soon as I can get the group and the Shiner loaded up, I'll be headed there. Our ETA is approximately 3:00 p.m. -
I expected more offense last week but I was dead on that the defense would come up big. Still, I missed our margin of victory on the high side. With a week's experience, and having seen Tulsa in action against Oklahoma, I will not be so cavalier in my prediction this week. The D tightens up on the run but their receiver Mills still gives us fits because we don't get enough pressure on Smith. We still give up a LOT of yards this week. The O starts to run a little smoother and Meager's playbook gets a couple more pages this week. RF and DD conduct a refresher course for Meager, Thomas, and assorted newbies and we get to see more of Pat and Jamario in the same backfield, with good results. The Mighty Quinn quits puking and gets his strength back in time to make five big plays. All of this translates to the following prediction: UNT - 31 Tulsa - 21
-
I have weighed all the intangibles and whipped up a multiple regression model for the quantifiable factors. Based on my rigorous analysis, attendance will be 22,437.8964 (rounded).

Marshall loses to Kansas St. on coaching error
EagleMBA replied to IslandEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
The Marshall coach gave a look like it was the player's fault. What the hell did he expect? He was lucky to be in the position to kick that field goal and, for once, I agreed with the announcers as to what should be done. That would have been a 37-yard kick from the middle of the field on the last play of the game after they ran to the left and called timeout. Really stupid. -
The QB Smith and the receiver Mills are going to be BIG trouble for us. Other than that, Tulsa doesn't appear to have much offense. Tulsa looks pretty tough overall; I'm not feeling so confident after seeing the game today! Maybe I'll feel better if we kick the MUTS' ass.
