Ramon Flanagan: TOO FAR THIS TIME
EagleMBA replied to 06WideOutsRideOut's topic in Mean Green Football
Did the Germans say that when they bombed Pearl Harbor? -
Let's think about this, friends. He didn't assault Silver physically. He was/is probably very frustrated. At that precise moment, the needling (statement of a FACT) got to him and he vented. We've all had moments like that. Having said that, that does not excuse him. I'm more inclined to look at this as just one nail in the coffin which is now almost closed. Adler has it mostly right...it should be AMF at the end of the season. Pursuing other opportunities should be high on RF's To-Do list right after the Thanksgiving weekend.

The best I could do was shout verbal abuse at "Mr. T" and a couple of cops during the hassling of Rick. My wife had a firm hold on me and was giving me the "look". I did manage to recycle a few tortillas that made it to my seat, but I smuggled none into the stadium. I have been historically neutral on the tortilla thing but find it to be harmless fun. The CSC Gestapo need to be replaced at once; their stupidity sparked a near-riot. That is not an exaggeration, emotions were running very high in Section E. If "Mr.T" is at the top of the steps again on the 19th, I will not hesitate to remind him what a P___K (rhymes with "brick") he STILL is.

Congrats to the Cajuns', Coach Bustle and

I must say that Babb's performance last night was superior. His faking after the handoff is the best I can recall; Mary and I were in awe of his deception on several plays...if Mary would have worn a jock he would have faked her out of it. I have quarterback envy. -
There is a matter of being bowl-eligible, i.e., win six games, which is no longer possible. I suppose there is a scenario where we could end up in a tie if we win out, but we would definitely not be selected to represent the conference this year; they are itching for new meat in the bowl game. I can say without fear of contradiction that we ARE going to NO Bowl this year.

RE: Contemporary Services, Mr. Clean and Mr. T should never again be assigned to a UNT function. If their contract allows an out, we should terminate Contemporary Systems immediately and put someone else, ANYONE else, in their role. At the least, their contract for next year must not be renewed. The administration needs to take a clue from the venues that host other entertainment events (I THINK what I saw was supposed to be entertainment) and hire one of the firms that has the temperament to deal with people having a good time. RE: RF, that pounding sound you hear is one of the last nails in your coffin! RE: Shaft, I hope you get it.

I heard the click too! Hope it wasn't the detonator on the land mine we just stepped on.

I STILL say... UNT 17 UlaLa 14

I had no idea my ex-wife was on TV. Sorry I have lost touch with her!

Coach Jones is an outstanding man and the kind of guy you would want at the helm of your basketball program. Having said that, he also needs to put a competitive team on the floor NOW. It is time to do that. He really had some hard luck with some of the players, particularly Hopkins' health and the short time he had to work with Johnson, but this is the year his team needs to accomplish something or I'm afraid he will be in hot water. I for one do not want to see that, I support him. Coach Slinker has been very successful, in my opinion. If you have trips to the big dance as a yardstick, no, she has not been successful. If your standard is being competitive and consistently representing the university well, I say yes, she has been successful.

I'm waiting too, Plumm, but it ain't gonna happen THIS year. We could always catch Mack fat dumb and happy after a national championship next fall. This weekend, however, you had best hide the women and children. It will be something like 63 - 3 (and we be on the short end, my friend). I pray there are no injuries and we are fit for LaLa.
-
That was actually somewhat of a compliment, Scott. He seized on the only real positive in that game and tried his best to put some lipstick on the pig. That's his job. There COULD have been a rally with another timely score.

Gotta hand it to Stephen Howard, UNT spin doctor extraordinare. Hee could probably take two farts and make perfume!

Thanks for the clarification, ArkstFan. I meant no disrespect to ArkSt by my opinion that we would win out. In fact, if either brand of Indians hits some big plays and puts up 28 points we're dead meat. I just think we'll win out because of home field and a continually-improving defense. For pride, I don't relish seeing UNT get another thrashing on national television so I will settle for a piece of the championship and watching someone else represent us in the NOB this year. Not a bad thing.

MeanGreenPOP, I for one want to state here, loud and clear, that I respect every player for the Mean Green and appreciate the effort they make. There is a TREMENDOUS amount of individual talent on this current team and if anyone researched ALL of my posts no words critical of individual players would be found. This is a TEAM game, and the people who are responsible for getting these talented young men to play effectively as a TEAM are the coaches. If any players are reading this post, thank you. I went to LaTech and cheered for you...and I stayed for the whole game. So you got whipped...mark it down and remember how it felt and pay the bastards back next year. If any coaches are reading this post, get your $hit together and make the decisions necessary to put these men in a position to win ballgames...they have the talent. They look to you for leadership, direction and motivation. If you don't provide it, you are cheating them.

If I read it correctly, if Troy wins out and we win out, Troy would be co-champs and go to the bowl. This might be the best solution, although I hardly think Troy would do much better representing the conference this year. No disrespect to Troy, but they are having much the same problem we are this year. Unless the team just lays down and quits, I think we will win the rest of the conference schedule. The team made mistakes but showed some signs of life and some offense in the second half at LaTech; I personally think it was the best half of football we have played this year. Is it a coincidence that this occured when we opened up the offense a little? I think not. Hint to OC.
-
I saw the play clearly. I was looking right at it. It looked like Nwigwe and the TWO LaTech defenders were all jostling for position just before the ball got there. Nwigwe split the two guys, went up and got the ball. I think the previously posted comment about "no call" was appropriate in this case. This play was discussed in GREAT company over dinner and adult beverages in Shreveport on Saturday night and that seemed to be the consensus.

I'M so fired up, I'm in a FIVE point stance!

The offense this year POSITIVELY sucks. (Sorry, couldn't resist) -
W must be really pissed to cause so many hurricanes this year. If you don't believe me, just ask the lunatic fringe.
-
Chad, we WILL make it to the Blind Tiger. Never been there (or anywhere much in Shreveport for that matter) so will go with your recommendation. Do they have anything from the bar that will cure a LaTech hangover? Probably have to settle for something to erase the memory.

BEND OVER! Don't know why I'm going to the game. LT 42 UNT 14 Oh, I do too know why I'm going to the game...I believe in the Mean Green, even when they ain't so mean.

Not going until Saturday. Will arrive in time to tap a Shiner or three before the game. Staying in Shreveport Saturday night, Holiday Inn downtown.

Agree with B-S. The ranking thing IS a game, and an expensive one. What departments do to score points in that game and make their schools look good does not necessarily correlate with the quality and performance of its graduates. Since someone was looking for a number, UNT was ranked around 83 overall when I was in grad school, but various departments can be raked very high OR off the map. Like I said, it depends on your major.

The UT degree may get you more interviews and a higher initial starting salary, but after that you're on your own. My UNT MBA has served me very well at considerably less cost. After you've been working at something for three or four years, no one gives a damn where your degree was earned...you are judged by your performance. I have fired Texas and Baylor duds. For what it's worth, I took 12 hours of MBA coursework at highly-ranked SMU in the middle of my program for work location/logistical reasons. The classroom demands and challenges at UNT were greater and I found my professors to be better grounded in the nitty gritty of business at UNT. Had a 4.0 at SMU and didn't come close to that at UNT. If the class schedule at UNT works for you, save some money and get a quality UNT MBA. You will have many quality job offers (depending on your major, of course) unless you want to work in finance in some God-awful place like New York If you are committed to the Metroplex or Texas, go UNT. The preceeding was a public service announcement.
