  1. Radio, they have an "EZ Chex Plan" that I used this year for the first time. You sign up for everything you want, including your MGC contribution. Then they draft your bank account in an amount that is 1/9 of your total beginning in September for nine months. Helluva deal!
  2. Welcome aboard Coach Dodge! For the last two years my subscript comment has remained unchanged...not because I wanted it that way but because each week it was appropriate and timely. I'm looking forward to changing it, thanks to your approach to the game of football.
  3. You're ALL wrong! The truth is that SLC has provided their receivers with cloaking devices and supplied their linemen with funhouse mirrors to intimidate the competion.
  4. The contract term is a double-edged sword. IMO, the man gets 5; anything less shows lack of commitment by both parties. Besides, the reality is that that seems to be the norm these days. Yes, we have TALENT on this team already...no doubt about that. My concern is that the new coach's system might require a different mix of talent by position than we have in "inventory", requiring at least two good recruiting years to correct. Throw in another year for this recruiting year (which might be mediocre due to the late start and uncertainty about the new coach) and you're up to three years already. IMHO, if the man isn't worthy of a 5 year deal, he shouldn't be offered.
  5. No decision IS a decision! Faint heart never won fair maiden.
  6. I second that emotion! In God and RV I trust; leave them alone to do their thing.
  7. There is a flip side to this. Just possibly the last minute jersey change was part of the pre-game pep talk and designed as a motivation tool. A plea to the team to leave it all on the field and take no prisoners. Just a thought.
  8. That post is not worthy of a reply.
  9. I had a nice conversation with Dr. B before the LaTech game. We are about the same age and from the same town but went to different high schools. At one point, she smiled and said "I hope we WIN today!". It registered as more than a casual comment at the time but I didn't know how interesting it would become a few days later. There must have been ongoing talks about the DD situation.
  10. I wish Coach well and have stated so in a previous post today. In the real world, however, you get the dead horse out before he stinks!
  11. Me too, Coach. I've always been a supporter of yours and appreciate your successes at UNT. Sometimes, though, you just have to call timeout and regroup; this is one of those times. May God bless you and your beautiful family.
  12. And if a bullfrog didn't jump he wouldn't bat his ass on the ground.
  13. WBAP, KLUV and CDS - currently playing Buddy Guy, B.B. King, The Rolling Stones, Guess Who, Delbert McClinton and Neil Diamond on a random shuffle.
  14. I hate it that we are taking a black-mold and asbestos repository off the hands of the City of Dallas. That site is landlocked and surrounded by bums and urban decay. Since LJ has helped his buddies by taking that site, the least they could do is implode the damned building and start from scratch with a functional building and a parking garage on that lot on the east side. Then put up a guard tower with machinegun turrets so it will be safe to go there. I have been inside it several times and it is functionally obsolescent as well as being physically obsolescent. Having vented, I will say that I am glad to see us doing something about launching the law school. That is very positive. Would have liked for it to be built in Denton but I agree that the "customer base" will probably be larger at the Dallas location.
  15. Well...I went on the EZ Chex Plan this year. The September draft was right on time, then ... NOTHING. Guess I'll call and wake someone up.
  16. There is NO reason not to support the Mean Green Club. Anyone who is able and does not for whatever pet peeve is very shortsighted. This is a long-term project that needs growing support, folks. Now is not the time to waver.
  17. I have always been puzzled by the fact that DD was a good college quarterback and that RF was a good college quarterback, yet our problems for the last few years have always centered on underutilization of the offensive talent (other than running backs). What is wrong with this picture? I give those guys credit for having been trained to find ways to move the ball and for having done it themselves. What am I missing here?
  18. Notre Dame has always had an impressive version of the Mean Green March, but I don't think it involves the players (which to me is the whole point of the march). At ND, the band marches by the residence halls on the way to the stadium. As the band passes each hall, residents fall in behind the procession and follow them to the stadium. Very cool.
  19. The SMU band unis do look strange in today's environment, but I believe they are following TRADITION. Way back, before they were "the best-dressed band in the land" they were known as "49 guys and a doll". I don't find their appearance particularly appealing, but I'm not an SMU fan. I would like to give them credit for upholding a longtime tradition...we could take note of that and try to hang onto and continue to build our own.
  20. I know, JD, but you will manage. Raise hell for me, I REALLY hate to miss this one. My kids live in the Austin area so I will miss a chance to see them too. By the way, the tickets are now taken by one of us who will do us proud.
  21. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I was primed to go to Austin. Up jumps the devil (family emergency) and now I can't go. I have two tickets, Gate 13, Row 17, forgot the section. PM me with an offer.
  22. My take on the game is that Texas will come out and play basic power football. I don't think they want to leave too much on tape for OSU. Therefore, if our D can make a few stops we will look respectable and the score will not be ridiculous. They will want the new QB to build confidence in himself and want the team to gel with him at the helm. The will also want the second QB to get some PT, maybe a quarter. Mack will open the playbook in the OSU prep week. I think we have an opportunity to raise some eyebrows if we walk in there and play balls-to-the-wall for four quarters. If we lay down like two years ago (least competitive gave I have ever seen UNT play), I will be seriously depressed, nay, pissed off. I am predicting that this year's team will come to play and give a good account of themselves, including putting a few points on the board against a monster defense. I have put my money where my mouth is, with two tickets and two nights in Austin. GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. Physically 61, mentally 30, with a wife 54. Still don't know what I want to do when I grow up!
  24. IMHO, if I can't be with Conference Ms. Right, then I'm going to have all the fun I possibly can with Conference Ms. Rightnow!
  25. What e-bone said. Our defense WAS soft last year but a significant reason was the offense was habitually going 3 and out. Look at my sentiment at the bottom of this post. That has not been changed since the dismal days of last fall and I will not change it until we find a way to keep the offense on the field and driving the football. I will echo what others have already said ...we have three good young men, I will be behind the one who can move the @%$#^&* chains!
