  1. I LIKE my women just a little on the trashy side!
  2. This is NOT Burger King...Tim can NOT have it his way...he'll get it Coach Dodge's way, if he gets it at all! I am sick to death of media who think they are ENTITLED to things others don't get. If Coach Dodge hasn't thrown his practices and access to the players wide open, there is a strategic reason he has not done so. Go with it! And yeah, my panties are in a wad!!
  3. I too am glad I don't have to make the call. There seems to be logical arguments on both sides of this issue. Coach Dodge is the one who works closely with both young men and knows their psyches. If Vizza lines up behind center at OU it will mean two things to me: he clearly won the competion; and, Coach thinks he can handle the mental pressures that will entail. I do believe he will take the long view and wouldn't put him in that situation if he thought it would harm his career.
  4. So, are some of you saying that you are writing off this season now, as a rebuilding year, and devoting it to developing the young talent we are so blessed with? Do you want to win now or do you want to develop? Seems like two different strategies to me. The original poster's hypothesis was, ceteris paribus, who starts at Zero U. Doesn't matter to me, if the objective is to win...go with the best or most experienced (if it is truly a tie).
  5. If it is REALLY a dead heat, go with Meager. Vizza confidence could be set back considerably if he can't handle the Oklahoma blitz, and you know they will...early and often...if we are not able to torch them for a couple of big plays early. Ties go to the incumbent.
  6. Sandwiched between Dallas Green and UNTFlyer. Not a bad thing!
  7. I don't want to reiterate my earlier post supporting about 40,000 seats; Plumm says it as eloquently as anyone. There are so many reasons to think big and build it. Flyer mentioned the cost of a second deck, but a second deck should be more economical on a per seat basis. Bathrooms ARE very expensive and I'm sure there must be some relevant ratios concerning potties/seats. Let's think about this together. You have site prep, which shouldn't be a lot more either way. You have a field to install. You have footings to pour which will have to be strong enough to hold the larger stadium anyway, unless you envision a Notre Dame-style "combover" of their original stadium. You have a certain amount of electrical, plumbing, concession/kitchen space, etc. that you have to put in anyway. Bathrooms costs should vary directly with the number of seats. Like building a house, you should get cheaper costs per seat by going up (just like your cost per square foot of living space goes down as you add stories). Stadium construction is a specialty (no experience claimed here, for the record) and I know the powers-that-be have surely been consulting the experts in that niche. If there are hard and fast, tried and true formulae for stadium construction I wish someone would lay those out for discussion. There may be constraints (other than the well-known and stipulated financial) which govern stadium construction. Availability of land is NOT one of them, and I think the footprint of a 40,000-seat stadium would not be drastically different than a 30,000-seat stadium. It would certainly not be 33% bigger. Does distance from the field become too great by trying to do 40,000 seats on one level? Sorry for the Plumm-esque post. In fact, this is probably the longest post I have ever made. I've exposed my naivete, so start shooting.
  8. WRONG! Wilson already has his name branded right into the leather...it is "Wilson ball".
  9. If you don't BELIEVE you can go 12 - 0, you damn sure won't. What reality brings by way of physical mismatches or breaks of the game...that's football. But if you don't step on the field with the attitude that you will find some way to win against anyone, you won't. If you believe you are a seven-win team, you are probably not seven-win material. This is a new beginning, folks. Let's fire up!!
  10. I know there are many opinions about this size thing and that there appears to me to be valid rationale on both sides of the argument. Please, if we err, lets err on the side of more seats. I would think that once the basic infrastructure is in place, the incremental cost of adding the next seat during original construction goes WAY down. Some people argue that we can't fill Fouts now, to which I would say it is not very fan-friendly and the product on the field has been less attractive to the walkup sports fan. There are legions of people out there who have no loyalty to particular teams and just go where they think they will see a good game; we need to get our share of those. I would attend games on the Safeway parking lot but there are only a few thousand of us that are the same kind of crazy as me. For many reasons (financial, image, recruiting leverage, other competitive factors) my personal opinion is that we will surely regret it if we do not build a stadium with at least 40,000 seats. If we are not able to raise the money to do that now, we should limp along with Fouts until we CAN. Anything less than 40,000 seats would be extremely shortsighted IMHO. I double-dipped on the green KoolAid last night and think that this season we will experience more big crowds than we ever have, with Navy being a near-sellout.
  11. Flyer, I used to have the ones you have now but gave them up. I tired of trying to coax friends to come sit in those GREAT seats; no matter who we asked they always had "something" come up at the last minute. Those seats had some good moments and I'm glad they are still "in the family". You are high enough to get some perspective on the field and you are only shielded by our players on near-sideline plays between the 30s. I only have to use low power binoculars to get a better view of the goalline plays and the dancers. Let the season begin!
  12. Section E, Row 18, Seats 9 & 10. Same seats third season in a row. To paraphrase Aaron's comment last night, I'm hoping for a different result.
  13. I support ALL of our players. I think TD will be swayed only by what they do on the practice field this month. If Woody does the best job running this team and this offense, he is going to be our starter; I am confident he will get the chance to show what he has (which is PLENTY). Is Woody giving HIMSELF the best chance? I don't know and can't express an opinion. I DO know that you take classes when they are scheduled, not at your own convenience, and that I respect all of our players even more when they take care of business in the classroom. May all of our guys give it their best shot and may a clear performance leader emerge from the pack.
  14. IF IT AIN'T GREEN OR WHITE, IT AIN'T RIGHT !!!! THIS IS ENOUGH TO PI$$ OFF THE POPE!
  15. I have nothing bad to say about DD, but it was time for him to move on. I'm grateful for the successful years we enjoyed under DD and am looking forward to much better days ahead with TD. One thing I could never understand during the DD era was his seeming inability to make adjustments. He was a good QB in his day; RF was a good QB in his day. We had good talent here during their tenure. I will always wonder why those guys could not come up with an offense that could put up points.
  16. That is precisely why I am not a basketball season ticket holder. You will see me at NO weeknight basketball games. I love the sport, I support the team and I support our coach; having said that, I'm a radio fan thanks to the tipoff time. I have tried several times over the years but the stress of trying to get there outweighs the pleasure. I can and do make weekend games but I will be limited to that until I retire and become a "gentleman of leisure".
  17. You can get there by 6:00 IF you are retired or in a relaxed working relationship and be on the road not later than 4:30 p.m. Otherwise, you will not make it from Dallas. You brought back memories of a time years ago when I heard a talk by Matt Simon. With that talk, he rekindled visions of being in the pre-game locker room in me. When he was done, I wanted to get up off my chair and run through the damned brick wall for him! I look forward to hearing Coach Dodge in the future.
  18. Give me those savage-looking talons! That lets the opponent know how many other players have been disemboweled for daring to line up in front of our man.
  19. Hell, even if it is only "perceived" as helping, I'm for it. Anything to aid our quarterbacks in finding receivers would be appreciated, even if they only BELIEVE it helps them. Many times last year, whoever was under center couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a brushpile! When the bull was standing alone in the field! Anything that builds confidence is our friend IMO.
  20. I finally got around to reserving two seats to the Zero U game today. My order says "No. 18". This seems a little underwhelming to me. Trust me, this bus ride is THE way to go to Norman. To our board posters and alumni I am compelled to say "let's have a little more action and a lot less talk".
  21. It's OK, UNO fans! You have a qualified coach coming home who WANTS to be there, limitations and all. Take comfort in the fact that Williams will be freezing his balls off in Milwaukee for a while. God, that's a TERRIBLE place to be at least four months of the year!
  22. The Notre Dame band marches through the campus on the way to the stadium; as they pass dorms, students fall in behind the band and walk to the stadium. Would some variation of this work here, with the band marching in from the tailgating area (to cut down on the distance) and encouraging tailgaters to get to the stadium? Would security get their drawers in a wad seeing a marching band and a couple of thousand people coming to the gate?
  23. My expectations for this season are to see a competitive team on the field with attitude. Aggressive without committing stupid penalties. A team that generates enough offense to let the opponent know they are in a fight. A defense that can lay the wood and wrap up tackles. A team that maximizes the clock and plays hard to the final whistle. If we see the above, I don't care what the won/lost record is. I will be proud to our coaches and our good young men.
  24. DUHH. I have been a season ticket holder for years and never realized that there were ANY permanent seatbacks. Being prone to nosebleed, I usually seek lower altitude and employ my 8 X 25s. Also, there is a chance I overlooked them because of persistent Shiner fog.
  25. A SWAG on the number of rows would be 50. As for the seatbacks, they are not permanent. They only appear where a season ticket holder has ponied up $25 per seat for the season. You can have one at any location, even the endzone I suppose, if that is where your season tickets are.
