All Right!!! A "Plumm fix"! I see the rumors of your demise were greatly exaggerated.
-
Actually, I kinda sorta hope that Cowboy sticker shock will keep more people in front of the TV on Sundays and seeking out good D-1 college football on Saturdays to serve the need for live action. We are certainly going to have an entertaining product on the field this year and a few more wins (given some defensive improvement). Now is the time to expose the masses to what an entertainment bargain UNT football is.

Larry Mac Duff Will Be Nt's Next Dc
EagleMBA replied to SouthBendGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I suggest we call the new defense "The Othello's" ...named that way because opposing coaches would be screaming "Lay off, Mac Duff, we've had enough!". -
Congratulations to SMU for a quality hire. I think they let themselves get bid up too high for his services, but it's their money and their coach. It is a relief that they have a coach now; I was beginning to feel embarrassed for them and their plight. I stand by my post from a day or two ago re: my opinion of what the ultimate results will be. More power to Jones if he can win where several others could not; the predecessors were not all incompetent. I agree with the general sentiment that this will probably be good for D-1 football in the Metroplex and look forward to a renewed series with the Ponies. Let's hope the Frogs will eventually come around.

SMUt is used to being able to buy anything they want. There are some things money will NOT buy...like wins, for instance. A good coach can only do so much, he has to have raw material to build something. Jones will have to modify his recruiting to accommodate SMU's academics because I don't see them moving drastically in the other direction. Jones will become a better-paid version of the last four SMUt coaches IMO.

Smu Insiders Think It's June Jones
EagleMBA replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
SMUt has baggage...agreed! Francione has baggage...agreed! Not predicting that it would happen in this case, BUT sometimes you can take two farts and make perfume. -
JJ let him go because he is a smart man and a savvy coach. Stay tuned in to Flemings' progress...another train wreck up ahead. STRICTLY my own opinion and gut about him.

I thought we were set at RB, with Micah and Cam plus a redshirt or two. Still, the thought of another RB that could nail a blitzing defender is very pleasant.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?
EagleMBA replied to MeanGreenBrigader's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Props to UTA...they deserve some recognition. Let them enjoy their run. The better they do, the better we look, and vice versa. We don't play them again, so as far as I'm concerned more power to them if they should run the table. As Buddy Guy says, "It's your time now...but it'll be my time after while!". -
U Of Houston Considering 71 Year Old Jack Pardee
EagleMBA replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's see now...Captain Kangaroo is doing pretty well at FAU and must be close to 71. Oh, and then there's that old dude at Happy Valley...Joe something. And that other Joe who coaches the Redskins. Age is a state of mind, my friends. If Pardee is still in good health, he could do the job with young assistants to recruit. My father used to say "The older the buck, the stiffer the horn!". -
Thank You Defensive 2004-2006 Veteran Seniors
EagleMBA replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Gentlemen, Your play gave me much pleasure as a loyal alumnus and fan of the Mean Green during your careers. I couldn't say it any better than FFR, so please allow me to say "me too". Best of luck to each of you in your future endeavors and please remember where Denton is when Saturdays roll around in the fall. -
Aw $shi! There goes my Christmas present!!! Santa was supposed to bring him for the Mean Green.

I have to give SMU my congratulations on an impressive hire. Johnson will generate some excitement in SMUtland for at least a couple of years. If he can recruit the players to run that triple option of his, he will be moderately successful. He will take a lot of the spotlight back from us unless we have a big turnaround next year in the win/loss column; he could make things uncomfortable for us in this sports market. Ultimately, he will go the way of the rest of the coaches who have touched the third rail that is SMU in the last few years. That is strictly my opinion.

Cavalcade Of Whimsy - The Coaching Situations - Baylor & Todge
EagleMBA replied to jperg2's topic in Mean Green Football
GreenCrazy captured my sentiments when I made that last post. Money is all there is to the Baylor or SMU positions. In my opinion, they are both elephant graveyards, where coaches go to die...they may not be feeling sick when they take the job and start cashing those checks but they are doomed to mediocrity or failure because of the overall situation. Much better for a smart guy like Dodge to bide his time, build a program here, and take a promotion into the mainstream, not the backwater. Just my opinion. -
Cavalcade Of Whimsy - The Coaching Situations - Baylor & Todge
EagleMBA replied to jperg2's topic in Mean Green Football
It probably IS enough...if you're a whore. Todd Dodge is not. Anything he does in his career will be well thought out and calculated to advance his family interests as well as his career, not just next month's paycheck. That is just my opinion, formed from what I have seen and read of the man without the pleasure of knowing him personally. -
The SMUt job is an elephants' graveyard. I'm sure Fran has enough put away that he can retire when it doesn't work out.

Big Announcement After Saturday's Game?
EagleMBA replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
1. Mendoza will be in charge of socks and jocks...Phil Bennett has agreed to be the DC. Announced after the game because he has to finish HIS game first without distractions. 2. RV saved a TON of money on his car insurance by switching to GEICO. -
I'll be there with Eaglette, even if hell freezes over. According to the weatherman, it might be headed in that direction by Saturday.
-
I know of 2 FOR SURE, but in the aggregate I would be hard pressed to guess more than 12,000. The Thanksgiving weekend and the kick in the nuts last night will make for a pretty small crowd. If the weather holds, we might get another 1,000...IF. That is as optimistic as I can be, and I'm an optimist. My prediction for Navy was 28,500.
-
That would be a MIRACLE !!
-
EagleMBA and Eaglette are taking vacation time to be there on time tomorrow night.

Football Is Getting All The Attention From Saturday
EagleMBA replied to e-bone ver2.awesome's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Well, make it 12 posters that walked across to the Super Pit to see the game. And I bought reserved seats weeks ago, too, just for this opportunity. Eaglette was with me, her first trip to the Super Pit. Her comment was "They don't support basketball too well, do they?". I told her I had seen smaller crowds. We're both going to use vacation time just to be able to get to Denton for the 7:00 p.m. tipoff Wednesday with Okie LIte. But you will not see me for basketball during the week again this season. The reason is in the first sentence above. Half an hour later would make all the difference. -
Borrowing from Bill Parcells, "TOAST".

This could very well be a Navy/ND deja vous game. This time, it will NOT be "deja vous all over again" because we end up with the ball last and find some way to win. Mark it down!
-
Don't have a clue, but I thought Staubach wasn't going to be able to stick around for the game due to another commitment. My dream guests would be Roger and Mean Joe, walking out for the coin toss with their respective team captains.
