This is what I was going to post until I saw this. I couldn't say it better or agree more. Me too!!

Clemson 38 UNT 21 I'm sick of moral victories but I think we come out swinging and make this competitive for three quarters. Whatever, I'll be damned proud of our guys.

New Machine On Field Of New Stadium
EagleMBA replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I noticed last Saturday that there were a large number of precast concrete thingies marshaled in a field across Bonnie Brae from the stadium. I couldn't decided where they might be utilized. -
I suspect that we will see this scenario, and in fact it excites me to think of the damages that could be inflicted on defenses with this approach.
-
Tune, Thompson and Baine, with a splash of Dodge. That is a helluva drink! I think we'll see Thompson get plenty of action this year to prepare him to lead in 2011 and 2012. I hope Baine sees the field too. Congratulations to all of these men.
-
What he said, plus 1,000 on the average. We will have two near capacity/capacity crowds and average about 22,500 on the other four. Book it!
-
It seems apparent that there was no clear separation between Tune and Thompson. I have to go with Tune and his senior experience until he demonstrates he can't get the job done. Tough call, they are both good.

Mathis Decision, End Of Practice Notes
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I thank both of you for improving my perspective on the situation. This recent rash of injuries, coupled with the defections, is starting to screw with our depth. With regard to the defections, I know this is a cliche but football is a TEAM sport. You get on the field and do your part to execute your assignment and contribute to the team effort when the coach calls your number. I hate to see this crap going on. -
Mathis Decision, End Of Practice Notes
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I admit that I do not know the details, this is just my personal take based on what I have read: Player is unhappy with PT and touches; Coaches have every right to make those decisions. Inmates do not run the asylum. Player is at a very competitive position; Coaches try to give Player role to play to get his talents on the field. Player pi$$e$ on everything, takes his ball and goes home to mama. How am I doin'? Close? -
I wish you every success, Gabe. You were always on the ball, no BS just did what you said you would. You have been appreciated by MANY of us and will be missed.
-
The only running I will do is to get in line for breakfast! I plan to attend with Eaglette.
-
Emmitt has been hitting the Panty-Dropper! I'm already at 7 - 5, maybe a glass of what he's having will get me there. Seriously, I like what I read and see about what is happening on the practice field and think we're due. Coach Dodge, we want you and your staff to git 'er done!

Most Memorable Game At Fouts In The Last 10 Years
EagleMBA replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Definitely the NMSU game. There was an electric atmosphere and the crowd was REALLY into it. The best big-time college game feeling I can remember at Fouts. Navy is second, but it too felt pretty good even though we lost. Great pageantry and exciting offense, both ways. Baylor was a romp and there wasn't much excitement except how many points we would score. A real good time but not an exciting football game. -
The MOST painful thing about this thread is realizing that I witnessed every one of them but two. Both of THOSE I listened to every minute on the radio. I'm a friggin' masochist!

The fact that you can widen the focus to include more than just three critical plays is symptomatic of the larger issue...we just did not execute when the chips were down. Offense, defense or special teams. We have talented young men on our team. Mental mistakes, coaching decisions, self-confidence; there is a lot to address in the next month if we are going to be as competitive as we should be this year. It is TIME!
-
Correct. That was the defensive play, but it wouldn't have been relevant without two potential game-winning drops. Those were the three plays that came immediately to my mind. It was a damned shame to lose an otherwise well-played game in a monsoon.
-
We'll never play another game in the past. It was a real heart breaker and a harbinger of things to come last season. There were many opportunities to win last season that evaporated...the team just did not know how to finish. In that game in particular, we needed to make one play and had at least three shots at it. This is a new season that is approaching quickly and another chance for this team to maximize its potential. It is not out of the question for this to be a 7-5 or even an 8-4 team if they can learn to play smart football in the fourth quarter and put people away.

2010 Player Preview - Shavod Atkinson
EagleMBA replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
"BEAST" Big Evil Angry Slobberknockin' Tackle Shavod is my adopted player for the second year in a row and I'm primed to give him props every week! -
Rick, my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this difficult time. Tom

NOW ... you can call me MAC, or you can call me WAC, or you can call me MWC. But you doesn't have to call me FCS!! REALLY! We must open with a team we could beat that would give us some props from the public. The headlines would read "UNT Blows First Game In New Stadium To Spunky Little (insert FCS team here)" if we schedule an FCS team and lose. Conversely, the headlines would read "UNT Inflicts Loss On (insert FCS team here) As Expected; REAL Test To Come Next Week" if we win. WAY TOO MUCH DOWNSIDE. Until our program is reestablished and recognized as such around the country, we should be playing 100% FBS teams. There are beatable FBS teams out there that people have heard of...find one. JMO.

I'm all for second chances and forgiveness. In my life I have personally known four people who were derelicts and eventually got their $hit together. In the case of a football team, my opinion is that you have to be very careful or you risk poisoning the team chemistry. If you are blinded by talent, you may get the second coming of T. O. Or will the team be suspicious of one person every time something goes missing from an individual's locker? I'm not saying...I'm just saying.
-
For the second season, I wish to adopt SHAVOD ATKINSON. Shavod did not disapoint me last year...I was proud of his effort. This year, his senior year, will be super for him, the team, and the Mean Green Nation. With Kelvin Jackson at full speed and Shavod not dinged up, our DLine will be much tougher to run against. Shavod Atkinson will be a force for us and I will be here to support him.

Houstonmeangreen is on the right track for a blood-chilling entrance. Holst or Mussorgsky. "Jupiter" or "Night On Bald Mountain" excerpts would be fitting for our fine musicians, entertaining for the crowd and intimidating to opponents. JMO

I hope you have erred on the low side, EagleGreen. I personally want to see TD be successful here because, among other things, I think he represents UNT well and really mentors our young men. If your prediction comes true, it will be like making love to a skunk...I will have had about all of that I can enjoy!
-
With this talent, with this experience, with this offensive depth, with an average defense...this is the year. If not this year, when? I admire and respect TD the man. TD the coach HAS to put up 7 Ws or stand aside and give someone else a shot. Another season like last fall will extinguish the flame for a chunk of the supporters IMO.
