Ford Stadium is really nice with a solid, traditional feel to it. No propellers to be seen! The nicest part is their seating, which is resin or plastic with backs. They are very comfortable. If you can get past the fact that you are at SMUt, it is a great place to see a game.

Dunbar gets 275 all-purpose yards, Thompson throws a strike to Stradford. Special teams plays an average game. UNT 35 Army 28

Can I write in Mike Hunt ?

Sorry, Plumm. Got you all hot and bothered, then walked away. Hawaii beat them 31 - 28 on that field goal with 7 seconds left on the clock. Score could have been the reverse if Army didn't fumble with about 30 seconds left deep in Hawaii territory. Army snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, much as we are wont to do.

I have been watching some of the game on DirecTV 613. Observations: Steelman is hurt; McNary is a fast DE (#44), sort of like AK47 only a step faster; Hawaii has defended with a 3-4 and a 4-3, and sometimes 8 in the box; Army has burned them with the pass when Hawaii gets too greedy but they don't throw many; very smooth execution by Army, lots of deception and they hit the line quickly. They did have a field goal blocked. This is the typical Army team we saw in Denton, disciplined, patient, with very few bonehead mistakes. Army broke down at the very end with a fumble while trying to run the ball to the middle for a winning field goal try; they gave up two sideline passes to stop the clock; and with 10 seconds they gave up a field goal (sound familiar?). They look good and our guys will have to suck it up on defense because they are relentless.

After looking at the Army gamenotes and seeing their DirecTV reference, I checked my DirectTV listing and found they were identical. You will be able to get the game on 613 if you have DirecTV, starting at 11:00 a.m. our time. It is interesting that the game immediately before that is last weekend's Army / Hawaii game, if you want to scout the opponent. For all I know, it might even be rebroadcast before then. If you can't watch our game or forget to set your DVR, our game will be rebroadcast on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.. If you work late, it will be rebroadcast at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, 9/20.

Nathan, your leadership and courage on the field, particularly during the last two seasons, was this fan's pleasure to watch. May you heal fully and be ready for the game of life. That is the biggest game of all and your attributes will make you a winner in that one too. May God bless you.

Shavod Atkinson fought another great battle in the trenches last night. A solo tackle plus he was credited for a couple of assists. He blocked the field goal attempt with great penetration on that play! Once again he was a force. Hopefully he is not knicked up enough to hamper his play at Army because Shavod will need to be on his game for our defense to hold down Army. My hat is off to you once again, Shavod, for a great effort against Rice.

I agree with most of this BUT I do not agree with the part I bolded. IMO the problem was giving Riley the same damned play to run last week and last night. They were waiting on it! I believe he can still throw the ball 10 - 15 yards with authority and I hope he gets the chance to do something out of the Wildcat beside run off guard or tackle. So far this season his talent has been underutilized/wasted.

I am POSITIVE that Coach Dodge gets 10 more games to win 7 BEFORE I will join the chorus of people calling for his head. I am POSITIVE that last night was a new season, SOS. I am POSITIVE that I am commited to see this thing through...no matter if it gets ugly. I NEVER quit.

No way this game goes under 20,000, rain or shine. I expect 24,000 if the rain has cleared the area by tomorrow afternoon.

OK, we'll talk some football. I worked as a bank examiner for the OCC with an ex-Rice football player for a few years in my first job after college. A fine, very capable fellow named Wallace E. Hinyard from San Saba. Other than my signature this week, you will never hear me disrespect Rice. Can't recall ever meeting a Rice grad I couldn't get along with.

UNT 45 RICE 27 Book it, Danno!

The defense is MUCH better this year. A few bad decisions came back to bite us on the scoreboard but overall I thought Coach Deloach had his men playing well. We still catch bad breaks like on that second play of the game when the official interfered; he was Clemson's twelfth man. I thought Cook would have made that tackle if he hadn't been screened off by the zebra. There was some satisfaction when he got whacked and they carted him off.

Shavod, big Double Nine. He was credited for two solo tackles and an assist and did a good job of shoring up his side of the line. Watched the DVR when I got home today and my hat is off to you, Mr. Atkinson.

I read Naked Lunch once, and it made me what I am today. Sadly, it was lost in Hurricane Beulah, 1967.

If these turbines get crammed down our throats, maybe there is a corrolary benefit. Strategically placed, the tailgating area could be cooled by propwash.

To sort of quote the press release: "The University of North Texas (UNT) will install three (3) 100 kW wind turbines on the site of the new LEED Gold Certified football stadium. The site was selected because the 40-meter tall turbines will become an eyesore on the University campus."

This is a "would be great to win" but not a "must win". All anyone can ask is that our men play balls-to-the-wall for four quarters...let the chips fall where they may. We are due for some bounces our way after last season and, if we play to win, we might. Godspeed, Mean Green!

Cool Post Card From The Athletic Dept. Today

Ranked higher than I thought at 186. If I had the resources, I would move up some. Come on Lotto!! -
I really like and support this as a concept. I do NOT support them being near the stadium, purely for aesthetic reasons. They would make the stadium look so dipshit and there MAY be some unintended consequences (noise, wind currents, shredded birds, etc.). I like the idea of getting the best of both worlds and putting the turbines in a nearby place like Research Park or a vacant lot in Denia.

I really do feel bad for Maye...but thank you, God. Any little event to level the playing field is appreciated, and it sounds like he will be just fine, except for Saturday.
