The overall budget will not support eight Dan McCarneys. Coaching staffs are always a mix of young guys and old heads to stay within the defined salary structure. As an old Hoosier, the Frye kid looks pretty good to me and obviously to Coach Mac through personal experience with Frye's abilities. I have to admit that I'll have to look at a map to figure out where Elwood, IN is located.

When you are the Head Coach and you have gone through the process and been hired, you can hand pick your staff. Coach Mac will not be talking to people that need to be interviewed, they will be people he has known for years and probably worked on the same staff at some time with them. Coach Mac is putting his reputation and his ass on the line with his hires. He should have sole discretion.

What Other National Coaches Are Saying About Our Hire

Exactly. You just don't get up to give the deceased's eulogy and say "I never liked the sonofabitch!". -
What Other National Coaches Are Saying About Our Hire
EagleMBA replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
After all the discussion over the last couple of months about needing a "splash hire" ... and after watching the press conference and chewing on it for three hours ... I think we actually made one. -
My education and experience tell me that there could be trouble here...but there are always exceptions. Coach Mac seemed to be very genuine regarding his respect for Coach Canales and their previous experience. Having said this, I am THRILLED for Chico and for us!! This day is arguably a win - win.

What Do You Want To Hear Today From Coach
EagleMBA replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
What MeanGreenGlory said, punctuated with "I didn't come here to lose!". -
Would, if I could! CFO, EOM, 6:00 p.m., 50 miles, I-35 ...know what I mean?

The same tired old garbage argument from a short-sighted individual. The same crap thinking that has retarded our progress for so many years.

If Offered, Should We Join The Mountain West Conference?

The sum of the two quotes above is EXACTLY why I voted NO. -
Mike Canales Coached His @ss Off Today
EagleMBA replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
McCarney can't afford to hire Chico because of his popularity with our fans. To maximize his control he has to bring in people not known to us to avoid divisiveness. Sad, but that is the way it has to be. -
Does Coach Canales Stay On Staff If Mccauley Is Hc?
EagleMBA replied to pogWo4life's topic in Mean Green Football
Mike Canales is demonstrably ready to be a head coach. If we won't give him that opportunity then we have to let him go. He will be successful. Let's wish him and his wife well. -
There is a saying that "the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know". We knew what we had in Mike Canales. Be thankful that the decision is made and we are not procrastinating. I'm not from Missouri, but McCarney is going to have to SHOW us what he's got, PDQ. No fancy rhetoric, no doublespeak, no jive. Come in here under full steam, Coach Mac, roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Mike Canales Coached His @ss Off Today
EagleMBA replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Dunham repeated what Canales told him that Bill Snyder told Canales after the game. We beat them everywhere but the scoreboard. -
Damn, Rick, you beat me to the draw! When I read that quote my hair stood up on end. If he has to think about moving to Texas for $580K, he should keep his ass in Florida. I want a coach that is excited for our opportunity. If he takes the job he better come in here YESTERDAY and go balls-out to build this program. I have a bad feeling that he sees this as just a job that pays more money than he's making now.
-
Exactly. I want a Jim Leavitt, others want someone else. In reading thoughts expressed by my Mean Green brothers and sisters I often think that we forget that it is a two-way street. RV has one tough job here to reconcile our needs and wants with the demands and salary expectations of the candidates. IMO, until we win consistently and rise back to the top of the Sun Belt we can't afford to be too damned choosy. When we right this ship, THEN we can start thinking about conference affiliation and a higher-profile coach. Until then, we should just shut up and WIN! If we get Coach Mac, embrace him, give him your best support, and see what happens. The best current scenario seems to me to be the one laid out by ParksAndRecRick where Coach Chico stays to be Asst HC and OC, with a commensurate hefty salary bump. Chico is a winner and ready to be HC somewhere but we are apparently passing him over. There is a lot of love for him here, and I hope this could work out. Go Mean Green!! See ya'll in Denton in a couple of hours.

Add another choice, please..."HELL No!! And the horse he rode in on!"

Happy Birthday To Dallas Green, Southbendgreen And Good Ken
EagleMBA replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Gentlemen: You are all in pretty good shape...for the shape you're in! Enjoy your birthdays!! -
Those big plays by ULM were painful to watch in person; if you weren't there, be thankful.

We might as well try to capitalize because you know our opponents will. I can hear/smell multiple variations on the breaking wind theme already.

Letter From Cindy Gill And 67 Parents And Family Members
EagleMBA replied to Ibleedgreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Great, well-written letter! There are many, many fans who feel the same way...and I am one of them. IMO, very few people had any problem with the life lessons taught by Coach Dodge or questioned that his influence was beneficial to the kids and the program. Thank you, Cindy Gill. -
For those who think Canales would have trouble recruiting Texas, look at his video clips and listen to his Barbershop chat. Can you imagine the impression he would make to a kid's parents? As to his other qualities, look at his sideline demeanor and his locker room leadership. As previously stated, I'm a Leavitt fan and would like him to be our coach. It doesn't take much imagination, though, to see the same qualities in Chico Canales. He is certainly ahead of outside assistants for the job, IMO.

Please allow me to pile on and wish both a very happy birthday. Pieces to you both.

I will be at Diamond Jack's in Bossier City on Friday and Saturday nights with Eaglette. We'll be going over to Monroe for the game. The folks in Monroe are hospitable, it is an easy drive, and the forecast this morning for Saturday was 73 degrees and partly cloudy. This is one of my favorite road trips.

This whole conversation begs the question "Who was really calling the plays in the first seven games?".
