  1. I don't recall all of those being my personal favorites at the time but I supported them when they came to work here. That's what we do - we close ranks. Having said that, this next coaching hire will be scrutinized from every angle and you can bet that there will be an exodus of supporters if we don't hire the real deal.

  4. I feel your pain! Yes. Winning and competitive teams will drive attendance over time. We got our dead cat bounce with Apogee and Mac's hiring. I felt things were trending upward until late last year and this year to date. It will take several things coming together to get back on the upward track.
  5. This, and a good AD candidate probably keeps a "short list" updated for contingencies. There could be some names on it suitable to our needs.
  6. I just double-checked to be sure my memory was correct before posting erroneous bullshit, and.... the AD at UNLV is a woman. Start rumors in 3..2..

  9. This. There are some good coaching candidates in this thread but I don't pretend to have the expertise to properly pick one. I DO have serious concerns that we are fixated on the coach when we should be fixated on the AD at this point in time. I believe the correct sequence is to have a new AD participate in hiring a new coach. Otherwise, you have a situation where the new AD is stuck with "the other guy's coach" for several years. Hell, the new guys may not even like each other worth a damn! We're setting ourselves up for more years of dysfunction. I think there is a game afoot to deflect fire from the current AD and try to save his culo. I suspect this is why the balls-to-the-wall search for a new coach has so swiftly begun. Just my opinion and gut feel, no facts to present.

  15. I was amazed when I read the post about the number of Texas kids on the Iowa roster and decided to see where they came from. As I recall, eight of them were less than an hour's drive from Denton and most were less than that. Now we ain't Iowa, but there must be a ton of talent just in Denton and Collin counties.

  17. Agree with you that we have the physical things in place. IMO, the things that hold us back are intangible (itemized by many on this Board). It will take a coach with giant huevos to take this job if he is secure and happy in his current situation. Again, JMO.
  18. Agree. It will take three or four years for a new coach to get us back to a 2013-type record. He will have to recruit, coach up the talent that is here, recruit, take in a few transfers at need positions, and recruit. He will most likely install and teach a different offense and, based on his personnel evaluations, change the defensive scheme. I think that is why it takes a minimum five-year contract to attract a quality coach. JMO.

  23. This. The new coach should have the opportunity to evaluate all of the old assistants. He may want to keep some token continuity or one or more of the ones we currently have (like those coaches previously mentioned) might seem to him to be better than those on his short lists.
  24. A wounded animal can be very dangerous! If I was Canales, I would try my best to show WKU as many things as possible that they haven't seen on film - even if I had to draw it up on a whiteboard during a timeout. Nothing to lose here, folks, and everything to gain. I know the conventional wisdom says there is no moral victory but being on the short end of a close game sounds pretty damned good to me today.
