  1. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. I didn't check the standard def channels but the game is on U-Verse channel 1753 (FSDA) in high def. That is U-Verse in Richardson. Don't become incontinent with excitement! UPDATE: I checked on the U-Verse standard def. The channel is 756 FSSW.
  2. Plan B Report -- the DSO Mean Gold kicked Cabaret's ass 97 - 3 and they're now 2 - 0 on the season after drubbing Sinatra six weeks ago. The team believes in byes during the season. We're playing some Hispanic team next Friday, Concierto de Aranjuez. Don't know much about them but it would be a good game to work out the kinks in the Dead White Composers offensive scheme, in preparation for Holst coming in on November 20 (what the hell kind of mascot is the Planets anyway?). Had a good crowd tonight and momentum is building because we are winning. That, and the fact that the rain didn't matter because the Mean Gold play in a domed stadium. There was plenty of Tanqueray and tonic before the game and the crowd was rowdy...as rowdy as that crowd can get.
  3. "REPENT! The end is near." ?
  4. I am actively engaged in part of my Plan B and getting ready for the game so this will be my last post for the day. For another year now, I have season tickets for my safety team... the Dallas Symphony Mean Gold. They have a 16-game home schedule with big names, great stadium, parking underground to avoid bad weather, and great tailgating. They mix up their offense, sometimes coming out in Pops and sometimes as dead white composers. Most importantly for ranking purposes, they very seldom, if ever, have lost. The concessions are a little pricey and this is not a beer crowd, but they do have cheesecake and I usually settle for gin and tonic to drink. The stadium is almost always at least 80% full. The customer service people lavish their attention on me and their fundraising people are so attentive. The team is playing someone called Cabaret tonight, so I'm told they'll come out in the Pops package and blow them away. It's always nice to drive home with a smile on my face after a satisfying win.
  5. I think they're pumping nocturnally. The "seminal moment" will become fluid soon.
  6. Most of us have something a little more mature in mind.
  7. Fake - - "Sweet home Mississippi, Lord I'm comin' home to you!"
  8. Agreed. To me the opposition is analogous to the father who keeps his daughter locked up in the basement because she is knocked up and he can't bear the thought of the neighbors finding out. With the passage of time, the birth will occur, the child is put up for adoption, and Missy comes home from her lengthy "tour of the Continent". The family image is preserved, all the dirt is swept under the rug, and life goes on. Not my style and not what I was taught at UNT either.
  9. I didn't say they applied to RV...didn't even imply it. He has built up enough goodwill, and this has not yet become a personal thing with anyone I know. But you bring up an interesting point because who knows what's under the rocks? None of us wants to go there. Tennessee smelled smoke and looked for the fire.
  10. Do any of you want to apply for the AD job? Here's your job description, per Forbes: Division I – Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) – Non Power 5 Conferences While the operations they manage might be smaller in terms of total budget and staff, Non-Power 5 conference athletic directors often face an even more daunting set of challenges than their brethren at larger institutions. Like any organization that is not the dominate force in the respective market, their leaders must be adept at dealing with a number of human and financial capital issues that can either spur growth or bring upon their demise if not properly managed. In particular, non-Power 5 conference athletic directors must excel at: Recruitment, development and retention of quality coaching and administrative talent. While schools in major conferences often have the luxury of paying their coaches millions of dollars, smaller institutions do not. Athletic directors at this level do not only have to have a knack for identifying the next great coaching talent, but must also find ways of keeping them around when they are successful. This also goes for their administrative staff – assistant athletic directors that have proven their worth at smaller institutions are easy pickings for departments with bigger budgets.Advising their university administration and constituents on how to best navigate through conference realignment. That means being proactive instead of reactive when it comes to best positioning their departments to make a move into a different conference, as well as ascertaining the changing landscape of their current conference and peer institutions that can potentially hurt their own future opportunities. Conference realignment often has a clear set of winners and losers, and athletic directors that are ill prepared to lead their universities through such tumultuous processes can often also be its first casualty.Managing ever increasing expenses while not having the luxury of tens of millions in media rights dollars coming their way. FBS athletic directors in weaker conferences must find creative ways of raising revenues while dealing with seemingly exponential cost growth, and often must contend with the possibility of cutting programs (e.g. Maryland and Temple) to make their budgets work.
  11. I don't know if they flew a banner but Hamilton was fired at the University of Tennessee (how ironic) in large part to his poor coaching decisions. "On June 7, 2011, Mike Hamilton resigned from his position as the Athletic Director at the University of Tennessee following months of pressure stemming from numerous issues including sanctions levied against the Tennessee basketball program and numerous head coaching changes in the school's major sports. Hamilton's poor leadership, arrogance, and financial mismanagement are viewed by many as the main reason the Vols football program hit an all time low during his tenure, from which it has not recovered. 12. A sharing of random thoughts that have been in the back of my mind for a few days and won't go away, not necessarily planted there in this thread: Hmmm. Several people have been very adamant about not flying a banner. Some seem on the verge of soiling themselves when describing the perceived consequences of the act, allusions to ineffectiveness, admonishments concerning vague unintended consequences. Some calm, measured and professional; some angry. Attempts to spin focus into a personal attack. Hmmm. The banner seems relatively innocuous to me; relatively common event in FBS sports at FBS schools. Hmmm. Makes me very suspicious. What do these people know that I don't know? Hmmm.
  13. Teacher! Teacher! How about this one...the next game is Halloween!
  14. "RV has done a lot for this university, but he is now unfit to continue to lead the Athletic Department. Like in any business environment, things change and you must adapt. The landscape he was hired to work in has radically changed and he has not adapted to it. His dedication to get UNT off the ground and into the realm of big time athletics, both in affiliation and facilities, should be lauded. That does not supersede the other issues at hand. As the head of an organization, he ultimately is the one who takes the blame and the one who receives the credit. Past accolades only get you so far in life and unfortunately he has used up his existing goodwill." Thanks, Lax. That reminded me that many years ago I worked for a North Texas alum who always praised me with "Attaboy!" when I did something good; then he would say "But it takes ten Attaboys to make up for one Awshit. So keep pushing."
  15. +1 Bazillion. That was a super effort and encapsulates the major points that have been made. I commend you, Sir. Now I'm going to sign off and call my eye doctor to make an appointment. Seriously. It has been over a year since I've been to his office and you can take credit for motivating me.
  16. Action overcomes inertia, and I think inertia is what you describe. From the old kids' story -- Someone Must Bell The Cat!
  17. Harry, I have the greatest respect for you and what you have done. I also appreciate the counsel you gave in your post. So, it pains me to tell you that we have to agree to disagree on this one. My reasons would pretty much just duplicate the opinions of the guys who beat me to the keystrokes in this thread.
  18. God you're good! Your creative mind overfloweth. Thanks for sharing.
  19. This is just the next step in the gradual escalation, as I see it. Or do you think this is a one-trick pony?
  20. THIS is how you draw the line!
  21. Had to laugh. I looked up the definition and symptoms in the online psych dictionary earlier and there is a loose fit.
  22. This picture below is what Marshall's Look-a-Like thread says resembles our eagle logo. Based on this blasphemy, and the anger it will engender in our young men, I predict the following score: UNT 27 Marshall 49
