Maybe we are going to start competing in Sumo Wrestling and need a coach.

Please allow me a war story. This reminds me of YEARS ago sitting around the table in a loan officers' meeting to discuss loans we made the week prior. The senior loan officer reads the name of the borrower, the amount, and collateral, if any. The officer who made the loan defends it. Someone around the table questions his sanity and the lender says "Well, he's a good ole boy...and his wife is a school teacher." True story, circa 1978.

Another loss to UTSA and I might have to change my name to Ben Dover.

Hypothetical question: If 5 years ago UNT had made Canales HC
EagleMBA replied to casual fan's topic in Mean Green Football
Quien sabe? Five years of motivational high energy from a relatively young coach with good previous experience could have done good things here. It is interesting to contemplate but I couldn't even venture a guess. -
No need. Golden was there almost 3 years before the current AD took the job. He doesn't have a history of failed coaching hires but I suspect he will be held accountable for the next one he makes. Here's his bio: http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205562140

I agree with you. The more subtle message in that UCF quote was that they seem to understand the sequence of events as it should be IMO.
-
By the way, I noticed this paragraph in the writeup. Off topic for this thread but I want to point out that the president at UCF obviously knows how to deal with replacing an AD and a football coach. "UCF President John Hitt and spokesman Grant Heston confirmed the news and told the Sentinel the school will complete its athletics director search by early December and the new A.D. will help select the next head football coach from outside the program." I guess you could say the UCF president is a "hitt man".

Coaches are going to get fired...that's the way football go. I think the circumstances, body of work, trends and personal traits make the difference when you are looking at a retread. That applies mostly to P5 retreads IMO because some of those schools just won't accept any losing seasons..."Yeah, but what have you done for us lately?".

After the departure announcement is made, we should all be respectful:
-
Holy crap!! 90, you just put three rounds in a one-inch circle at 100 yards. This is exactly the one and we should adopt it.

Kim Phillips: Gamedays at UNT becoming big draw
EagleMBA replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly. This article only begins to highlight the full economic impact a winning football team could have on Denton. This is why small donors buying several season tickets should not be discounted by the "ELITE". In the aggregate, those fans have a huge impact and their disengagement will be felt by the University and the Denton community. -
Houston! We have a breakthrough!

I did a quick search before expressing an opinion to confirm/deny my gut. Golden is a breakeven coach over the last 10 years and his wins are on a downward trend. No thank you. To properly answer your question, if the above situation was reversed I would at least give him a look.

Are You Kidding Me ? I want to know where you bought that crystal ball! Wait...is that legal? Are you carrying an illegal ball in your bag?

Not as ugly as I anticipated so far. If we come out with attitude this half and keep Marshall off the scoreboard on their first possession there might be a competitive game here.

Positive vs Negative Financial Reinforcement

Exactly. "Hope" is for church! I will say here that I respect wardly and his passion for his position, but I just can't agree that standing down will accomplish anything in the way of progress. Sometimes you have to clear the lot before you can rebuild on it. -

Refusal to acknowledge what is happening and address it will not contribute to a satisfactory solution. -
Positive vs Negative Financial Reinforcement

The tactics employed by that group are very transparent. Thumb nose, shoot finger, taunt, insult, vague allusions of consequences, etc.. It almost seems coordinated, but I'm not paranoid. IMO the objective is to string this debate out, buy time, and make us weary of the fight so we'll go away. Political tactics, not objective discovery and evaluation of facts. FACTS = the new F word. How about the new S word -- SOLUTIONS. -

Positive vs Negative Financial Reinforcement
EagleMBA replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
The average money raised per head is not significant. What is significant is the small amount that was required to accomplish the task. You're all delusional if you think that is the maximum effort from this group. -
OK, guys. You diverged from the C&W path so I feel empowered to contribute lyrics from one of my favorite Robert Cray blues songs. Only slight adaptation has been made, as appropriate: "Coffee for my breakfast, shot of whiskey on the side. It's a cold and dreary morning and lightning is lightin' up the sky. And the forecast calls for pain -- the forecast calls for pain! RV is still around and the forecast calls for pain."

They keep trying to goad people into showing their cards. They want money unconditionally, sort of THIS guy's technique:
