Unless the new coach turns out to be someone that is perceived by the fans to be a misfit here, I predict he will get tons of support and a long leash. That does not mean that I think people will support RV too; IMO most will clearly delineate their support. I do hope that if Smatty is doing the hire he will find some way to communicate that fact. Secret handshake, nudge-nudge-wink-wink, etc., or even just stepping up and saying so...whatever.

I admire walk-ons, thank them sincerely and support their efforts. They have tremendous work ethic and desire to play D1 ball. And we need them. We need them because the recruiters have not kept the pantry stocked with talent and have forced us to grow our own talent to fill out the roster. I hope there is always a walk-on path to the team but it wouldn't hurt if it was less traveled. I defer to others to answer the question about whether or not those scholarships are annually renewable because I don't know. I would hate to see a kid lose a scholarship he earned the hard way.

Oh, I took it the way you intended and agreed. I was just adding that, in my opinion, this continuing crap is driving fans away from supporting the program. This is evident in attendance and in financial support. Actually, I don't think those fans are supporting other teams...they are just hibernating IMO. I suppose there is a length of time where they are lost for good. In my case, all it took was three home games under Benford to pack it in. I'll be back for basketball when we have a different coach...if I live that long.
