  1. STUDENTS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!
  2. It is hard not to get pumped about offense with Harrell and Filani added, for openers, BUT I will be very nervous until I hear some names announced to lead a mean, straight-razor-totin' defense. I realize that not putting up points was arguably the worst deficiency our team had this past season, but except for the KFC bitches, the opponents could have scored almost any number of points they needed to win. Let's hear some DEFENSIVE news soon! You're scared? My kids were born in '70 and '73! (Of course, I was "active" at a very young age...very)
  3. Sorry...my inner smartass couldn't resist!
  4. Yep, RV was hired 4/4/2001. They waited an extra three days so that people would not think it was an April Fool's Day joke.
  5. That would be a great rebound for Chico. He's a class act and I wish him every success going forward.
  6. Do those positions have to be posted like other positions? If so, it could be a month...unless the assistant positions have already been posted and are open to apply. Has anyone checked?
  7. If TCU can have (Whoa!) Nelly Gonzalez and SMU can have Brooke Hickey, maybe we'll have to step up to Rollergirl or perhaps "Fiveyards" Booty. Her nickname is "Fiveyards" because her backfield is in motion.
  8. You pretty much read my mind. I really don't think it is realistic for us to expect him to be able to come in here, flip a switch, and land the best recruiting class in years. The best I expect is that he can hang on to whatever the previous regime managed to find plus whatever his new staff can persuade to follow them. To see what he is capable of attracting to UNT will require his staff in place, on the road, and working their networks for a year. Let's relax and enjoy watching this thing improve. JMO.
  9. +1,000 ! I forgot about Kinky. Permit me a TRUE story. Years ago I lived in Garland and, unfortunately, had a telephone number that was one digit off from the Holiday Inn. It made for the occasional strange call. One Saturday afternoon I got a call; the caller said "Is Kinky Friedman there?". Without missing a lick, I responded "Naw, him and The Jewboys went out for a beer." Pause on the other end, then "OK, thanks." and a hangup. Now back to Hanukkah, or Chanukah.
  10. Absolutely! I am also a fan of this one, and it must be ranked in there somewhere:
  11. So very sorry to hear that news. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours tonight.
  12. This is why I'm for Gate 3 or Gate 4. On gameday, these locations would receive the most traffic from the "young minds filled with mush", and those are the people that need to be exposed and reminded of Joe's legacy at UNT. JMO.
  13. THIS definitely describes me:
  14. Ooops! I was posting while YOU were posting. Again, anything after 22:00 puts it all in context. The comment itself is about 22:40. http://www.meangreensports.com/collegesportslive/?media=515797
  15. For the sake of discussion, I took that comment to mean that the list of interviewees included three head coaches. I'll have to replay that. I remember thinking Fritz, Withers and ? someone else when that comment was made. Added: I checked, and my impression was correct. See the replay shortly after the 22:35 mark.
  16. He seems to be "real", not all that full of himself, and enthusiastic about the opportunity. His track record would indicate that he has the skills to get this turnaround underway. He has the personal qualities to inspire people to get their butts in seats to see his handiwork. Do I expect a miracle? NO. I see steady improvement over a couple of years, then a "miracle" season (defined by me as 8 wins, bowl game) and a string of winning seasons following. Short answer: Yeah, he is the right hire for us. I am pleased with our head football coach selection.
  17. Or, vice versa?
  18. IMO Perry's work and results will hold up to scrutiny. Unless Littrell has a buddy in mind for the job, he could do a lot worse than keeping Perry.
  19. I wasn't advocating for any one player so much as stating my belief that there is talent there. We'll see how they respond to Littrell's offense and teaching but I think one will step up and do an acceptable job. I do think Smith has the inside track if he buys in and does what Littrell demands of him.
  20. I picked up on that immediately. It was a "no comment" type reply. I truly think from the rest of his response you could infer that he thinks he has a QB on the roster now for next year and his philosophy will be to recruit a HS QB every year to keep a normal flow in the pipeline. That's what I heard.
  21. I like the Gate 3 idea because of the relative locations of the Alumni Pavillion and the walkway from the pedestrian bridge. Second choice would be the Gate 4 location. JMO.
  22. I wonder if Coca-Cola could be talked into matching donations to expedite this project.
