  1. I suspect in the beginning that RV has given him a script to read concerning "RV's vision since 2000". Once you get past that nauseating part, and Coach does his thing, you will appreciate what he has to say.
  2. Anything less than an extremely harsh sentence will set a very dangerous precedent for our military. The fact that this matter has bounced around in the air for so long is also a dangerous precedent. The Army I knew would have shot my ass for that kind of cowardice.
  3. With RV lingering, no relief in sight, my buddy Robert Cray has it nailed:
  4. Agreed. This is not role playing, nor intended to be. This armed person knows what is coming and still the target is within an axe swing, knife stab, pipe upside the head, etc., before getting a shot off. If the armed person was engaged in conversation or otherwise distracted by the target, thus slowing reaction time, this might not end well.
  5. His first class will be less than the max number. He will turn up a few gems but not necessarily at all of his "need" positions; he will have better luck with the next class after he and his team have settled in. The coaches will work hard to coach up what they have inherited, what they can find in the walk-on pool, and will find 4 - 6 guys who can play as true freshmen from this class and redshirt the rest. They will "hit 6" by the third season. Those are my expectations. Now back to the Shiner.
  6. This video link from All About's post is a very lifelike training situation. It shows how much time you have to react when someone is 21' away. +1 to him, btw.
  7. I'm with your sentiments, Lifer, especially where the McMillian family is concerned. I can't even imagine how they must be devastated. Please do not take this as a joke, but I want to attach a video link. For anyone who thinks an axe is not a deadly weapon in the wrong hands (or in the hands of someone in the wrong state of mind) you should see this. I stumbled on this video in a Christmas sale email I got from a reputable firm I have patronized at some time called Midway U.S.A. When the page comes up, lower left of the weapon image you will see "Videos >1"; click on that, then the arrow on the video that comes up. It will open your eyes. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/123049/cold-steel-trench-hawk-tactical-tomahawk-3-1-2-1055-carbon-steel-blade-19-overall-length-polpropylene-handle-black NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!
  8. I would do pretty much what you said. In my case (age 70+,arthritis, both hips replaced), Option 1 is possibly not available when matched against a younger man but I would try. Option 2, I would tap 3 and reassess unless he was clearly still coming and still armed. Just to be real about this, even in my condition from a standing start I can close 21' in less than 4 seconds (measured and timed in my hallway). I shudder to think what time someone in peak physical condition could do. One clearly does not have time to do a lot of analysis in an event like this. Situational awareness becomes more than just a catch phrase, doesn't it?
  9. That seems logical...but you don't get a do-over. If you don't stop the threat on the first attempt, he's on you and you are dead. I would go to the most reliable option I had at my disposal.
  10. Based on careful watching of that video, the weapon looks like an axe, relatively large head, with a handle of 18 - 24". Definitely more than a hatchet, less than a fuul-blown woodsman's axe. Short enough to be thrown accurately. Long enough when extended by a man already moving to cover 21' PDQ.
  11. Oh come on, Joe, just play the game. I sense that Cerebus is trying to do something interesting here, not play "gotcha". It's kinda sorta like the prof that gathers up the essays from his 20 students, reads 5 at random to get a feel for the quality, then puts them in order, reads them, and assigns grades relative to the quality of the random group he read first. Even I am strange enough to want to see how my perception of this hire changes as he puts his coaching staff together, recruits, and we have spring ball. Addition: I confess that I voted before posting and believe I gave it a B+. Not because I think Littrell can't be an A but I am very nervous about the lack of defensive coach announcements. Please, God, don't let us make that mistake again.
  12. If I had 5 days, and I was moving to Denton from Washington state, I would combine business with pleasure and make a local scouting trip of talent to bring with me. This prospect adds a dimension we didn't see last year... and his twin brother might be helpful too. Hey...talent is where you find it, it doesn't have to be homegrown. Four years from now, we could be watching THIS on TV.
  13. And a squad of backup officers in the back seat while on patrol!
  14. My guess is that toxicology results will show some "friend" gave him something to enhance that Shiner high. This is a damned shame and I feel sorry for the young man, his friends and relatives, and the officer who had to make the decision. The bottom line is...don't DO shit like that and comply with all commands from a police officer.
  15. Go back and replay the Littrell hiring presser where Smatresk BRIEFLY introduces RV, who then proceeds to give a lenghty address. Listen carefully to Smatty's words, especially towards the end re: RV and their "partnership". I didn't post my thoughts on those remarks, lest I jinx the process; draw your own conclusions. Meld those together with the other snippets of info cited in your post above, and elsewhere, and one could start to see a picture...or that could just be wishful thinking.
  16. I am afraid not...NOW the Salukis are PISSED!
  17. You may want to rethink that position. Do you realize that you would likely have to forego the opportunity to compete at home with the likes of Bethune-Cookman and Portland State? Looking ahead, you might never see a game with The Little Sisters Of The Poor because of scheduling constraints. Do you REALLY want to pass that up?
  18. This is the real story. We'll continue to be disrespected until we earn respect.
  19. Our budget for this position is much smaller than it would take to hire the TT dude. Here is what RV has said is an affordable candidate:
  20. I like the way this staff is starting to look. What better way than to reunite guys who know each other well when you are trying to effect a quick reversal of fortune?
  21. My preferred DC teaches tackling techniques designed to discourage runners, thus making opponents one-dimensional. Guys he coaches know how to finish plays.
  22. Well...I assumed it was a "HE". No one has had the guts to pose that question, not even Coach.
  23. I just started this rumor in another thread.
  24. The new DC just got off the phone with Coach Littrell. His name will be announced tomorrow. He is known for his aggressive techniques and runs a no-nonsense program. When HE sits in your living room you will not say "no" to his recruiting pitch!
