I checked my U-Verse online schedule for the proper date and time, both standard and hi-def channels, without any sign of the game. It must be exclusively an online broadcast.

That is not beyond the realm of possibility, IMO. He will point to recruits and transfers, saying "We're almost there". RV will say "Why not? I could use the bonus" and its a done deal.

I have March 7 in the "Benford Hasta Luego Lottery". That is the day before the Conference Tournament, I think, and I chose that date on the assumption that we wouldn't make the tournament. If every team, no matter how bad, makes the tournament then I made a strategic error. I thought that not all teams in previous years made the tournament.

An illustrated progress on renewing 2016 season tickets
EagleMBA replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Got a phone call about renewal today and they left a message. I am not making any decision until April, as previously stated here in other threads. I want to see what we're putting on the field at the Spring Game before I renew and I want to know the information up front about what the associated costs are. Otherwise, I may join the gameday walkup crowd...or not. -
Those were my thoughts when I first read about this. It smacks of a case of "Manzielitis". There is no established treatment for it, and the results are usually loss of career opportunities with repeated episodes. Though not related, symptoms appear similar to "affluenza".

Ahhhh! That conjures up visions of Old Sparky!

We agree that not everyone is careful...education is the answer. As for carrying on a college campus, first you must be age 21; that limits the universe right there. Second, you must jump all the hurdles placed in your path (fingerprints, background check, promulgated training, etc.) which is not cheap. A proper carry weapon will also consume $400 to $1,000, depending on how you have it "pimped" (ex: Glock 19 with internal guiderod laser and tritium/fiber optic sights will run close to $1,000). After the hardware, you need to buy a holster designed to secure the specific weapon in the location on your body you want to carry, with proper retention. I have faith that a UNT student meeting the above criteria can safely carry on campus for self protection. Another thought here...suppose that young person is just getting started on a degree after a deployment or two in Afghanistan. Having met all the criteria, should he/she be denied his/her Constitutional right? We are not that different in our thinking, really. Let me add that the knowledge that you are carrying a weapon which is sometimes pointed toward the family jewels makes you VERY careful.

Thanks for posting these links. Let me say first that "you can't fix stupid". In all of them, there are educational issues with the user. A weapon should not just come out of a holster with proper retention. A woman should not carry a pistol loose in her purse; she didn't have a proper carry purse. As noted in the last link, an appropriate carry weapon will not fire when dropped. I myself dropped my carry weapon on the concrete in my garage a couple of months ago without incident; the reason is that I purposely purchased and carry a weapon that is drop-proof. And when holstered in a proper holster it will not fall out. In my case, the weapon was not on my person but stashed in my car and I fumbled it when I retrieved it from its hiding place. Needless to say, I learned my lesson and am more careful when executing that maneuver. Your post illustrates why people need to pay attention to proper carry weapons, proper gear, and to be careful how they handle the weapon.

MGB: Augie DeBiase talks about visit to UNT

Where does nUTSAck fit in this equation? -
VERY nice knife. I really didn't know it was illegal, I'll have to research the Penal Code lest I transgress inadvertently because I have one too (but not as good as that one). I view a knife as a useful tool but I wouldn't carry that for self-defense unless that's all I had. The reason is twofold: 1. like forevereagle I wouldn't take a knife to a gunfight and 2. I'm too damned old to go mano a mano with a knife.

This, 100%. When you just went 1 - 11, that's when you double down on Character > Talent. It is a group of men with character and guts that will turn this thing around. They will find a way to win some games.

Yep. Noted! (note to self: read posts to which you wish to reply three times)

I respect your opinion, but...this cat has had NUMEROUS chances, based on the different articles I read. Some people just cannot conform to the standards of conduct required of them in the position they find themselves. I think he is one of those. Additionally, the QB on most teams is looked to for leadership and stability. I would be uneasy if he was my quarterback.
-
Well, if you go down there you might find the head coach you're looking for! And a few eager recruits too.
-
This is right up Jerry Jones' alley! He likes to put up with that shit. Mauk needs to declare for the draft.
-
There is not a pole long enough with which I would touch him.

The only edge I see for us in that matchup is that he might have more of a shot at seeing the field here. Unfortunately, I see a clipboard in his future at OkieLight; he's a smart kid and a competitor by all accounts.

MGB: UNT to host WR Jason Pirtle on official visit
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't disagree with what you said. I give our coaches credit for having been around the block a time or two. Definitely agree that you can't expect to win with a full roster of D2 talent; I do think that sometimes that is a fine line between D1 and D2. I think the "big boys" who have prospects just wetting their pants while waiting for a call from them are too hung up on "measurables". Your avatar is one of the best examples I can think of the kind of players we need. -
MGB: UNT to host WR Jason Pirtle on official visit
EagleMBA replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Was it Yogi who said "Hit it where they ain't" ? Until proven otherwise, I'm inclined to accept the football judgment of Littrell and Harrell. If they think he can play for us and no other D1 coach does, or has bothered to evaluate him because he was only offered by D2, I will go with it. Fine and Pirtle look good to me. Our coaches know what is on the line and what a rebuilding job they have on their hands. They would not waste time and effort on these guys if they didn't think they could contribute. JMHO. -
It boils down to this for me...I have faith in licensed 21-year-old University of North Texas students. I do not have faith in scum that may walk onto campus and prey on unarmed students for whatever evil purpose may enter their deranged minds. People like that have respect for nothing and simply take the path of least resistance when they want something.

I appreciate your thoughts. Approaching 71, I have placed a lot more emphasis on eating correctly in recent years, and I have to ration the Shiner. Don't do enough exercise but I try. Regarding "strategic advantage", the cowards that prey on innocent people look for people with weapons and shoot them first to minimize their risk. That is the logic behind remaining concealed until you have an opening. And the attack may come out of the blue, like that damned heart attack out there with my name on it.

I read the University policy that Cerebus graciously posted. What a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense! I would have to read it two or three times and make notes, then reference locations to a campus map, in order to make sense of it. And all of the overlapping jurisdictions! My dear mother would have politely smiled and said "And the farmer took another load away!". There are some restrictions that make sense, such as on spaces containing bio-hazardous materials. The eggheads will dither until one day the wolves decide to show up and kill a number of sheep. I pray to God that never happens at my University, or any other, but I fear it is just a matter of time.
