  1. I agree. I think that schools that end up with monikers like that have administrations that pander to many diverse constituencies in an effort to please them all. Sort of an elephant designed by a committee. As far as I am concerned, it will always be Pan American.
  2. Sacrificed on the court as halftime entertainment?
  3. Like us and many others, there have been name changes over the years. I cannot fathom why people won't just leave it alone after a few iterations. The name history there is long and I won't go into it for fear of boring people. The name and even the mascot has been changed so many times in a relatively short span of years that it is hard to identify with it anymore. The real turmoil began when the University of Texas System got their hands on it.
  4. THAT futbol is definitely the most popular in the Valley, but the other kind has a large following. Friday night rules there, just like our part of the state. Some of the homegrown players have been pretty good, too, but are not associated with the area because they all had to leave to display their talents beyond high school. Since Edinburg is 225 miles south of San Antonio, the Valley is almost an island.
  5. That is a long row to hoe, unless there is lots of milk available from the UT tit. Still, I wish them every success because I know the people of the Rio Grande Valley would support the football team. It has been talked about for many, many years but this is the first time I have become aware of any action. For the record, that institution is where I earned my B.B.A. and I served as president of the alumni association there for a couple of years in the distant past. Originally from Indiana, I managed to live more than 10% of my life to date in that area. Those are good folks down there. Prediction: They will not be putting in an appearance at Apogee in my lifetime.
  6. Two F_U s this week. Sadly, there will be lots of F_ You s uttered...and written. Today and Saturday could be our last shots at double digits in the win column; possibly So. Miss. on the road.
  7. Learned that phrase from a Canadian refugee I knew in Hattiesburg. They flew it on a banner when I left for Denton...guess they were mad. Chokes me up to think about it.
  8. I'm in charge, so you minute few can bugger off! Besides, it is not my fault!
  9. Agree that long-overdue action is required. At the risk of being labeled a softie, I would be getting my replacement ducks in a row for immediate discussions after the Big Dance and let "Lame Duck" play out the string at this point, to minimize turmoil and stress on all concerned. The writing is on the wall.
  10. My research concluded that 90% of all doctors who tried Camels...preferred women.
  11. The kid strikes me as having the smarts, guts and "want to" to make the transition...we'll see. I do think it would be ill-advised to burn his shirt this fall. I also think (and pray) that the position is covered for this coming season, allowing Fine to make the adjustment and grow physically and mentally into an FBS talent with four years of eligibility intact. This would allow us to recruit depth at QB in the next class and start a normal progression. JMHO.
  12. I notice that one of the "perks" is a pre-game locker room chalk talk with the team and coach Benford. I have already done this once... here is the PROOF!
  13. I heard this story on KRLD while out driving yesterday. My FIRST thought when they got to the stadium part was that I knew where they could find the right guy to get that stadium built. I was tempted to send them his contact information and write a letter of recommendation.
  14. This. I would also add the adaptation-to-new-systems on both sides of the ball and the integration of fresh JUCO players into the team chemistry. All of the above might make for a slow start to the season, but we will not end up last by any means. I think there are so many variables that the FPI people just went all Missouri on us..."show me".
  15. I hate to be sceptical of 90's posted content but my reaction was thus...
  16. Were they slippin' dollar bills in your Fruit of the Looms?
  17. True. In the long run, this is going to be good for Cam. He is a great talent but needs a dose of humility...and he just got a big one. The Panthers should be hell-on-wheels next season. As for "ugly", it was not. Two heavyweights punching away until the bell rings. That Bronco play calling in the red zone had me screaming at the TV; it sure looked like something right out of Denton. Watched the game wearing my "Booger" jersey and kept hydrated with lots of Shiner...what's not to like?
  18. The person that puzzles me is Smatty. There is a man who should know what a good basketball program should be. Where is he?
  19. I stopped by the church this morning and lit one for our friends at Richmond, and for their dying football program.
