You see...that is EXACTLY the problem. It is not about a sticker and you are not selling a sticker. Until our so-called fans understand that simple fact progress will be vey very slow in coming. Such attitude of "what do I get" is exactly what is keeping us behind our peers in fundraising, support and progress. Only at Nirth Texas are folks more interested in what they "get" than who/what they are supporting.

Yep...sometimes the lobs right down the middle are just too easy to hit out of the park.

I would be very surprised if Harris isn't starting or at least seeing significant playing time next season. Coach Benford has made reference to Harris during both Caravans to date. His comments were very positive, but indicated Harris must get his emotions in check and channel them in a positive way. Makes sense as Coach has called him the most athletic player on the team.

Big Tuck...your first offer is your best offer...Go Mean Green (which takes on a double meaning here).

Thanks, Billy. I did not hear him say that during the event. But, Brett was there and he talked to Coach Benford after the event as well. Perhaps that quote was from that post event chat. But, always possible I missed it as well. Definitely did not hear him say that. But, like I said..,happy he is hunting post players. Apologies to Andrew if he did say it during open mic time and I missed it. Thanks for posting Brett's blog. Clears it up at least...but, not Andrew's question of who us leaving I guess.

Yep...I try to attend them all. No payroll for me...I give my money to North Texas and as much of my time as a volunteer that I can. I try to find ways to support UNT not reasons to criticize it.
-
Which coaches caravan? I attended both and did not hear him say that at either...nor did I see you at either. I know you teach so unless you took a day off it would be tough for you to get to the Ft Worth event today. Maybe I missed seeing you in Gainesville last night and missed the comment about signing two more post players this year. Personally, I would like to see that as I think young Mr. Brice will need a year or so to get up to D1/CUSA level so we can depend on him game in and game out for long stretches and not just as a freshman spot player. We will see how fast he develops soon enough.

No, what is interesting is that the attendance was greater than any of the Ft Worth events that I attended and I have attended several. Ft Worth attendance has been so bad that there was no Ft Worth stop last year. Great to see it back and great to see the Tarrent County support. Folks can always find a reason why they did not attend...those who want to attend usually find the way to do so. And, seems I saw you eating lunch at Rudy's before the first noon time radio show....so....doubt the work thing is what really kept you from attending a radio show or two. One reason these noon events are being tried in Dallas and Ft Worth is due to poor...very poor...evening attendance in the past at both. Why not try something different if what you are doing isn't working. Seems folks here cry for that all the time. Then when something does change...well, that is now the problem. Another reason is due to the fact that RV and a couple of other AD staffers attended an Alumni Association Young Professionals event held in Dallas during the lunch hour last year. He saw the attendance and noted it was larger than his Caravan Dallas attendance. Said he might try a lunch time event. If it doesn't work well...it can always return to an evening time or they might go back anyway. Verdict is out, but better attendance at noon in Ft Worth than the last few evening events. Hope to see you at either the Plano or Denton event next week. Both are evening events.

Congrats on the door prize. You know, I have probably been to as many of these Caravans as many and more than most, but I have never won a door prize. It's a conspiracy I tell you! Ha! Thanks for coming to the Caravan.

Was hoping to say hi to you...one of our Tarrent County Mean Greeners! Hope to see you at one of the others. Three more chances, right?
-
Ha! Doubtful...perhaps he was given a few days off. UNT90 has Club Seats and is a current MGC member and an ardent tailgater. He is either taking a break like others have done or just given up on the board...not UNT. He'll be back...book it!

So, to start, it was the best attended Ft Wirth Caravan I have seen. Not good for a city the size of Ft Worth, but given the poor support for these events in Ft Worth in the past, this was a home run. Maybe 60-70 in attendance...all in. Regular cast of characters on the panels with the exception that Coach Sheffield from Track and Field spoke and I enjoyed hearing from him very much. Coach Mitchell was as excited to be the Mean Green's HC as she was last night in Gainesville. Coach Benford again mentioned his returning players and emphasized that Jeremy Combs and J'Maycel Reese are the "real deal". Still seems high on the potential for Brice, but indicates Brice will need some coaching and work with other D1players. Coach Benford seems to think the new 30 sec. Clock in the men's game will benefit the style of play the Mean Green runs. Coach Mac was better on the fan praise and a tad less on the extorting of fans to get "butts in the seats". RV, Mac, Mitchell and Benford all mentioned attendance and, in my opinion, that is fair. Players like playing, and tend to play better in front of full houses...fact! Not much time for questions as answers tend to "go long", but overall a nice Caravan stop and, I for one, appreciate the Ft Worth folks for supporting this event a bit better than in the past. Do think a spot in Sundance Square might increase attendance even more whether at 5pm or noon. But, cost is a factor. What UNT needs is someone or some business in Ft Worth to step up and sponsor the event such as Park Place Lexus does in Plano and the bank in Gainesville. Surely, there is an alum in Ft Worth who could help with this...or a company...surely. No new different from the Gainesville event. Food was OK...slider type burgers of beef or chicken, onion strings and potato chips from Lonesome a Dove (I think) and iced tea. Beer available for purchase. Hey, it's free folks if you pre-register..so, all good. The most interesting thing for me was how few of those in attendance I really knew or had seen at UNT events before...and that's a good thing. In fact, at least five attendees joined the Mean Green Club for the very first time at the event. Very nice...thanks guys. Was great to see Lance Dunbar and get to speak with him for a moment. Really nice guy and a great ambassador for UNT. See you in Dallas tomorrow for lunch at the House of Blues. Will Dallas out draw Ft Worth? Remains to be seen.

No...only time I have felt Coach Mac went a bit overboard was at the signing day event. Any characterization of Mac going over board with it at Gainesvilke is just incorrect. No problem at all with Coaches extorting fans to show up and bring other people. If the most passionate of fans are not willing to help, there is more to the problem than a few coaches extorting folks to come out and support their teams.

There was a nice crowd for the first stop on the Caravan tonight. Lots of great food, beer, wine and sodas. Had a table of UNT gear for sale as well. Dave Barnett made his first official event to MC tonight. Don't know, but assume he will be at other events as well. Same panel format as last year...which I tend to enjoy. Jalie Mitchell made her first appearance as head coach and did a fine job. She is definitely excited about being the Mean Green Head Coach. Coach Mac was Coach Mac and full of the "fire and brimstone" we have come to expect from him. And, before someone asks...Andy Mac is definitely #1 at this point and at this point Mac expects him to start game one against SMU...at this point. Coach Benford smiled when I asked him about Brice's play in last weekend's all-star event. He obviously knew about it and mentioned that he had not been playing much recently. He said they were definitely going to be "coaching him up". He also mentioned that Combs is going to be a top five CUSA player and that J Mycal (sp.?) Reese should be a top 10 CUSA player. Heard also from volleyball, swimming, cross-country and softball. Very well done, very positive evening and a good start to the Caravan season. Anyone else who attended, please fee free to chime in with your perceptions of the event.

A great addition to the leadership team at UNT. Welcome Dr. Wolf.

Here's hoping you are 100% correct on both counts and that young Mr. Brice is a fast learner.

Protesters escorted out with little disruption as Abbott speaks at UNT
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Clueless as usual...might explain your confusion. I do not work for the Alumni Association. I volunteer for UNT in many many capacities including the Alumni Association. You really do need to start thinking and maybe researching a bit before you post. Pretty silly stuff. And, now for sure we need to keep those posts of yours. It is going to be so fun to re-look at them after you have been actually working for a few years and buying that "tract home" you now disdain so much...if, of course, you earn enough to actually purchase one. But, you claim to have a Master's degree (but are too embarrassed about your university to say what in it appears), so that "tract home" just might be in the cards for you. So much bravado here from you, but so little to back it up. Typical. OK...I think it's time to move along. Enough about graduation. It's over. We can now move on to the next thing that embarrasses you about UNT. Only at North Texas. If you want the last word...take it, but if you are of a mind to take another stab at me, at least do enough research to get your facts straight. -

Might just have to save this post and show it to Ryan in a year or two. Could be pretty funny for reflection. -
Obviously, you aren't from around these parts. Coac Mac wears that National Champioship ring all the time and has yet to let anyone forget that he was on the Florida National Championship team coaching staff. I am more that sure that recruits hear that story. Most Mean Green fans can repeat the line word for word without hesitation!

MGB: Luster leaves staff, Brooks to Utah
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Good luck to both Coach Luster and Coach Brooks. -
Hmmmm...free speaker vs $100,000 plus speaker fee...seems not only fiscally responsible to me, but will have a much longer positive effect on UNT and its future. And, you are full of hookie. Dr. With's husband works for and with Dr. Burgess at the national level...not at the state level. The budget thing has been worked out for some months now...long before the commencement speaker thing. And, you lose tons of credibility by calling UNT a "highly" liberal university. You obviously have never attended nor been on the campus of a "highly" liberal university if you think UNT is one. That is really the funniest thing I have heard in a very long time. Your "circle of chums" and/or dept. at UNT may be liberal, but your overall knowledge of the campus voting patterns and political affiliations is not credible. Liberal, perhaps....highly liberal...pure wishful thinking on your part. Plus tons of those "liberal" students you tout have never seen the inside of a voting booth. They have these things called voting records you know. One cannot find out who someone voted for, but they can and do know who votes and who does not among registered voters. This stuff is studied constantly. Young registered voters vote in very ... Very low numbers. That's too bad in my opinion. But, it is what it is. You can find some interesting things from looking at the voting patterns and records by precinct. This is the stuff college students do, and it is THE place to do it...it is what college students do, and I have no problems with it as it is 100% understandable. Now that you have graduated, you might might actually learn to understand and appreciate how things work in the real world and how important it can be to your university to make nice with the state's governor no matter the party. In this case, the party and politics is totally irrelevant to the benefits to the university. Sorry you just can't see that fact, but perhaps you will.
