So, why don't you stop trying to make everything about UNT so negative. I'm not trying to be defensive, just trying to counter your constant "everything is bad all the time at UNT and every other university does it better" crap with some facts instead of the mis-information and innuendo you like to spread. You are like the few who still post in the meanandgreen board. They all seem to say they want nothing to do with UNT, find everything wrong they can, pat each other on the back for knowing the "true story", yet they continue to post on a UNT fan board all the same. They seem so proud to tell each other that they no longer support UNT as if that is some badge of courage or something or if they just want to justify their non-support. Why the personal need to diss your own university? Is it some sort of ego thing? Just go buy a t-shirt from some school you DO want to follow, or some high school, get on their board and tell 'em how wonderful they are. I think we all get your deal here. Heck, my Ohio State friend has invited me to "The Shoe" for a game this year. Guess what? In upper tier seating the tickets are $150.00, and Ohio State has just started raising the prices for this one along with tickets to the Mich. St. And Penn St. games AFTER they came on the market. Yep...they are big time, so they watch demand and if it looks good they just raise ticket prices AFTER announcing original prices. Cool, huh? Am sure you are all for that because they do everything right. As my friend said...they can do whatever they want as the demand is there and they really don't care about the individual fan. By the way, the $150 is a bargain compared to the price for those with PSL's (personal seat licenses). no, not comparing UNT's product with OSU's, just pointing out that "big time" programs can be pretty darn fan un-friendly. Raising prices after announcing ticket sales and after sensing demand is pretty crappy to the fan in my opinion, but heck, it must be perfect in your world because it isn't UNT so it must be good. Geeeeeeezzzzzzz, Louise. -

the Brock's remain VERY active in and supportive of the Mean Green to this day...and in many other areas of UNT. If UNT90 spent more time being involved and less time trying to point out deficiencies with HIS University he would know that about the Brocks and know that Denton Mayors appear at many UNT sponsored events...not just athletics. But, that would not fit his agenda of all bad all the time at UNT. -
Very nice video. Pretty much first class. Great to see. Is this the date of Helmets and Heels this year? If so...ladies get the first live peek! Excellent. Uni talk must mean football is just around the corner! Can't wait! Go Mean Green!

Yep....so bad in fact, that I stopped watching that piece of crap-ola series before the San Jacinto episode. Glad I did. The history was so far off as to be comical and the geography was even worse. Makes me question everything the so-called History Channel does now. Sad. Used to love the History Channel. -
contest over!

And here I thought you meant Larry Brown at SMU. Then I realized that the NCAA could never clear him of wrongdoing as they would never charge him no matter what the circumstances. On another note...great to see UNT's Brown cleared for action by the NCAA.

I'm beginning to like this Tlgreen01 guy more and more. Why can't I +1 him more than once per comment? :-)

Seeing UNT90 back spewing his broken record comments on and on and on means one good thing at least....UNT football cannot be that far away. The ad nauseam of his continued rants means that he has awakened from his deep off season slumber and that football is approaching. He's like the little boy who cries wolf every five seconds just to get attention, but he is the Pauxantanny Phil for UNT football. He came out...he didn't see his shadow and so the rants will carry us to football season. Welcome to the current chapter in the "this AD sucks" novel from UNT90. But, for those who have the original first edition....nothing new in this printing. Thanks for coming out of that deep slumber. You were missed...well sort of.

OK...all you recruiting experts out there......how many D1 coaches missed on Harris and Kirby? Why are you not praising UNT for giving these kids a shot when so many other of these great coaching staffs that recruit the DFW area missed so badly on them? Only at UNT are the so-called fans so quick to point out every little issue they personally can dig up, while totally ignoring the successes. UNT runs one of the top walk-on and transfer programs in the country. While one can argue both sides of that issue, and make valid points both ways. One simply cannot argue with the fact that recruiting is tough. And plenty tough in Texas which has more D1 programs than almost any other state. Who has more? Texas or California? Heck, who cares? There are plenty to choose from in Texas where family and friends can make a short drive to watch their favorite player every game. The coaching staff knows what it wants, the positions it thinks it needs to fill, the potential for current roster players to make an impact, the contacts from potential transfers and walk-on's, the JUCO guys they are interested in pursuing, etc. just because a kid is decent in HS or from a local HS does not mean that the player is a fit for what the staff at UNT is looking to recruit that season. Man, how I love these walk-on kids who love the game so much that they are willing to do all the work for none of the glory just to prove that they belong. These players earn my respect each and every day...on the field, in the classroom and often within the community. Congrats to young Mr. Kirby. He has earned it and earned it the hard way. Lots of D1staffs passed on this kid who are sitting out there today wondering why. Thanks UNT for seeing something in this kid that showed you he was more than worth the opportunity. Opportunity is all these walk-on kids want. How about some kudos for the staff who not only looks for these passed over gems but gives them the opportunity?

sort of the way I feel about ice hockey. Understand your thought. -
Somebody has been smoking something that is now legal in Colorado if they think that kid sticks with UNT over OSU or A&M .... Both of which are easy drives from the metroplex. Heck, I have made the drive to Stillwater many many times. Easy...all highway now that Hwy 51 has been improved. Yes, I agree you must try. And, UNT has been trying just that a lot recently...much more than in prior years. Heck, even offered Irvin's kid who had that Miami offer he accepted. Everyone can find kids that "could have/should have" in their personal opinions. Easy for the armchair recruiters to do. if you are a local area coach and want to help maybe you could reach out to Coach Mac and ask for a sit down and discuss recruiting. Is a tad puzzling why UNT coaches are not haunting the hallways and gyms and practice fields of local area high schools.
-
Let me get this straight...you are saying t,his kid would have picked UNT and stayed with that pick after getting offers from Okie State and Texas A&M? You know this with absolute certainty? If so, that is fantastic and shows that UNT is now of a position where it can compete with the "big boys" and win local recruits.

thanks, Brett. Nice piece on this kid. -
You harp on the BOR. You really think the BOR is actively involved in this stuff? News flash, they are not charged with campus personnel duties other than final approvals after approval from the President on the UNT campus. If the Prez supports the AD, he will stay. Simple as that. BOR looks at the overall athletics program...not just the won/loss record in men's BB and football. BOR is not to be micro-managers within campus departments as you seem to think they are to be. Much bigger picture for that bunch. And, those players who come to UNT choose to play for the coach that UNT hires. So, yep....to assume any coach or AD us accepting failure is not only being nutty but dissing our player's personal decision to play for UNT. You think any player would choose to play for a program "accepting of defeat"? Really? Not one person...not one...player, coach, AD, staffer, etc. "accepts failure". Ridiculous assumption on the face of it. If you have Such a narrow view of an athletics dept that your view focuses only on men's BB and football, then your vision needs a bit of work. Now, we can all agree that t,here two programs are the "bell cows" in any D1 program, so many coach and AD fates hang on these two programs. Understand that...but, win, lose or draw it is ridiculous to assume anyone accepts losing in any program. Only one's around here who seem to me to be unwilling to step up to D1 greatness are the so-called fans. Takes money folks. But, only at North Texas do so-called supporters think a program can be consistently successful without adequate financial support and fan support. Crazy that Apogee has seen no sellout to date. Blame what and/or who you want, that is your privilege, but it is a partnership...neither partner can do it alone. When Baylor's supporters donate $16,000,000 and Arkansas' can donate $24,000,000 and UNT's can't provide even $1.5 million for scholarship support that says a lot. So, blame who you want...but win, lose or draw, the UNT so-called fan base talks the talk, but just can't seem to walk the walk.

UNT Athletics and UNT in general give a ton of "free" time to this event each YEAR. It is a major undertaking fort both the Kiwanis volunteers and for the UNT folks. UNT gives time, facilities and manpower to this community event each year. When I hear stuff like "UNT doesn't support the community" from my neighbors and other community folks it just goes all over me. Those dumb rear ends have ZERO idea how many manpower hours, pure cash support and other support UNT gives to the Denton area communities year in and year out. Lots of UNT staffers worked for weeks on this event and were, in fact, at the event...most there working the event. And...just to be 100% clear here...I am not disagreeing with UNTFan23's comments at all. Just wanted to point out the effort UNT goes top to work with the community on this...and many other events. Ever go to Twilight Tunes on the Square? Big UNT presence in manpower and dollar sponsorships....and staffers, dancers, cheer members and Scrappy often make appearances and often they put up the UNT bounce house for the kids. I could go on and on about this stuff, but I am sure I would still hear the "UNT doesn't support the community" crap-ola because, among other things, UNT built Apogee, bought the piece of crap Sack and Save building and is looking to add a power station near campus.

Happy Birthday Eric...make it a great one.

Tell that to our student-athletes. I seriously doubt any one of them is accepting of athletic failure. Seems you transpose success, or lack thereof, on the football field and in men's basketball to every other program in the athletic department.

CONCACAF - The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. Headquartered in Miami, Florida with 41 member nations. The US men are the reigning CONCACAF Champions. It is a tournament of national teams from the North and Central American and Carribbean regions and is a "biggie". First game tonight for the US men against Honduras. If you cannot be there in person, it is on Fox1 starting at 8:30pm. The US and Mexico have between them won all but one of the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments. By the way... CONCACAF is associated with FIFA and is the third most successful FIFA Confederation. CONCACAF also conducts the World Cup qualifying tournament that the US plays in with the hopes of qualifying for the World Cup each four years. Double header tonight in Frisco...first game kicks off at 6PM. -
Leave me out of it! Ha! If UNT comes up with its share of the funds...all from private donors...the UNTHSC name WILL be on it...if they cannot, it will be under just the TCU name. TCU does not have the facilities to support a med school on its own, so this is a great partnership driven by private funds during its start up phases. My only concern is this...and I have stated it before...UNT has the nations premier OD school right now. Adding MD's to the mix could...could...work to dilute the OD program to the extent that it is no longer considered a premier OD school and research program. MD's and OD's do have a challenge in "mixing together" as many MD's have long seen OD's as a tad "lessor" of a medical degree. I simply do want this to become just another also ran school of OD medicine after a few years of graduating MD's. The program for MD's will need to be certified before its first crop od MD's are set to graduate. Lots of work ahead, but this is another positive notch in the belt of the entire UNT system. Way to go UNT. And, this is great to see these two fine educational institutions teaming up to enhance and advance post-graduate educational opportunities in the north Texas region.

Women's World Cup
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Great TV viewership numbers for the finals. Actually beat out the ratings on the last men's World Cup final. But I believe that one was between Germany and Brazil...as such, the US was not playing. None the less, the ratings were terrific for soccer in general and for women's soccer in specific. Glad to see this. However, we will wait to see if this translates into any better support for the women's professional league. It really didn't after the last World Cup, but lots more young ladies playing now. We'll see...we'll see. Hope so. -
Well, aren't you little mister sunshine.... ?

Wow! 5-2 USA! Where was that offense the rest of the Cup? Carli Lloyd for player of the match! Does she win the Golden Boit as well and Hope a Solo the GK best crown? Amazing and complete game for the US tonight. Great to see Abby and Rampone get in the game. They have both been great players for the US team for some years now! Great to see the Cup return to the U.S. Defense won this Cup for the US. Many unsung here's on that defense, but future looks good for the U.S. women. Will they overtake Germany for world number one? My guess....yes...on the basis of this cup win. Good Cup...great to see. Well Carli Lloyd gets the Silver Boit based on the third tiebreaker...minutes played. Yep...Hope a Solo gets Golden Glove award. OK...no jokes about a boxing glove instead...I know you were thinking of that...yes, you were...I am watching you CBL. Carli Lloyd does get the Golden Ball for the top player in the tournament. Well deserved! So, congrats to the U.S. Women! Great job!
