Well, I guess we should have figured, but UNT has closed all athletic fields until further notice. This, unfortunately, makes cancellation of this year’s Kickball Classic necessary. Really too bad, but cannot be avoided and probably for the best considering the need to be safe and “social distance”, etc. Certainly do not want to take any unnecessary chances with this virus. If you have donated, sponsored or signed up to play in this year’s event, please PM me your wishes concerning either simply converting your player registration to a donation to the Cheer program or if you would prefer a refund. We will honor your wishes without problem or question. Many thanks to all of you who opted to support these great student-athletes. Hate to see our 10th annual event cancelled, but simply cannot be helped. See ya next year for our next event. Please PM me your wishes. GO MEAN GREEN!

When DJ was a guest at the Coaches Radio Show, he was asked about continuing to play after graduation. He said, that he "was done", that he was in a "pretty serious relationship" with his girlfriend and that her was anxious to "get on" with the next phase of his life. Did not sound to me like he was too interested in continuing to play after graduation, but, then, the comments were made before the conference tourney was cancelled. However, to me, DJ seems like a kid who has a pretty firm grasp on want he wants to do and where he wants to go. So, based on his radio show comments, I think DJ is done with organized basketball. As to another year for all seniors, I really doubt it. All the seniors played a full year of basketball...all the way through their conference games. I can see the NCAA granting spring sport seniors an extra year...softball, golf, track, etc., but not basketball. But, it's pretty crazy "out there" these days, so you never know. But, one thing I am pretty confident in saying is that whatever DJ decides, it will be the correct decision for him and that he will be successful.

I have not heard any official announcement from UNT as to what their future plans are for this land and the adjoining land they are acquiring. How do you know it won't be utilized for classroom space or dorms? If you have seen an announcement from UNT, and not just speculation, please share the link. I'd be interested to read the official announcement. Seems to me that if the land was acquired by eminent domain, than the use must be for a "public good"...sounds like classroom space, dorm space, administrative space or something as such to me. But, I am no expert on eminent domain and what is considered "public good".

By the way...if you could, and wouldn't mind, please spread the word regarding our move to the back-up date...MARCH 29th (Sunday). Thanks so much.

Due to the University being “closed” to students through March 22nd, the KICKBALL CLASSIC has been moved to our backup date of Sunday, March 29th at 11:00 am...same place...UNT Softball field. Sorry to have to make this announcement, but really had no choice. If anyone has any questions, post them here and I’ll do my best to answer or send me a PM. Hopefully, everyone can still participate in the 29th...let me know if you have questions.

This is really funny. The Daily is such a pity party these days. They never pass up an opportunity to show UNT in a bad light. But, hey, journalism today, right? Ha! Ha! What really shows a lack of empathy is Ken coming to town, not telling Hunter and selling the building out from under him without so much as a "hello kid...I am in town...and I'm selling it". Yep...that's a lack of empathy...way to go Dad! Now, tell me again, how UNT showed a lack of empathy....

WHERE DID OUR HOME GAME WITH CAL GO?!!!!
KRAM1 replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Hmmmm...per Wren Baker, the game is still on the schedule and nothing has changed for us.....as yet. He mentioned that he would let everyone know what happens...when it happens. But, looks like the home game with Cal...as scheduled...will not happen. Dang...wanted to see Cal at Apogee and read all the nice things the Cal folks had to say about Apogee and our fans as it just might have encouraged a few other schools to schedule "home and away games with us. We'll see...who knows...might just get pushed out a couple of years or me might get a chunk of change. -
Bill Belichick visits draft prospect at Middle Tennessee St.
KRAM1 replied to UNT18Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
And, we care...why? Now, if he went to visit Ladarius or came to see Mason...I'd care,. but Middle? Nah! -
Appreciate those of you positively reacting to this event in support of some hard working student-athletes. It means a great deal to these kids. You really are making a positive difference not only financially, but also in just showing your support. Thank you.

I have always said, and seen through the many years of hiring experiences, that a degree only helps you get your first job. After that, it is on you to build a body of work and a work attitude that propels you further in your career. I only looked at "where", if I was interviewing someone for their first job. After that, I wanted to see what they have done and how successful that had become. Period. Podunk U. was fine with me if they were knocking it dead in their career and had the skill set and experience we needed. Now, did I seek out U&NT grads? Yep...and hired a few in my time. But, that Ivy League degree you have means zilch if you aren't getting it done after being hired. Anyway, just my observation...

Again, simple answer is "no". In no way was this a concerted effort or planned family strategy. The "family dynamics" are such that it would not be feasible. Hunter has stated publicly that he did not even know his father was in town signing a deal with UNT to sell the property. Hunter owns the "business" not the real estate. Father owns the real estate. About all I think appropriate to post regarding this situation.

What's up with you guys? Are you all Bernie Bros where you think everything should be free? If you want to read DRC "stuff", purchase the on-line subscription...it isn't expensive. Either that or please stop bitching about it. The DRC is a business. They cannot survive giving their stuff away free. Geeeeezzzzz Louise.

By the way...Pod play sucks and was last year and will be this year a complete disaster! Dump it and dump it NOW! Just sayin....

Yep...just a really off second half of 3-pt shooting. When Mo is, what, 1 for 8 from 3 you know it is an off night. Even with that it came down to one play that La Tech made at the very end. This was a really good game to watch in person. Nice crowd...loud students...and alums and a nice La Tech contingent as well. Yep, we lost, but so did WKY on their home court, so still in first place. This is still UNT's to win. Obviously, sorry we lost, but chalk this one up to what Emmitt said...it really is that simple.

Easy answer...they needed adults in the room. Ken, being the adult, knew from the beginning that he would have to sell...he had no choice and that no public shaming of the university was going to change anything. He knew that working with the university to get the best deal they could was the way to go. Thus, Hunter, who wanted to stick his head in the sand and play the martyr roll was cut out and did not know until two weeks after the deal that the above deal had been agreed upon. They now have a year at a rent of $1 to figure out their next move...and oh, that wad of cash as well...way way over appraised value. I hate that this has happened, but all one had to do was "look around" to know the inevitable was approaching and pretty darn fast. The university area has lost quite a few of these locally owned small businesses over the years, and that is a shame. But, also a sign of the times and not specific or limited to UNT. Some say, well, gee, they can't move and re-open elsewhere as it just wouldn't be the same. Maybe true...maybe not. They have VERY little equipment and furniture that could easily be moved to a new location and UNT would gladly allow them to take everything they wanted to take. So, sure, not the easiest of things to do and certainly a tad risky for the business, but they have one year to figure it out (one year from the date of the signing of the agreement...whenever that was or will be). If you want to, a year is plenty of time to figure it all out. And, who knows, it might even stretch well past that one year date. While sad that another small business will go away from the university area, and be taken off the tax rolls, it is an opportunity. It is up to the current ownership to do what they will with that opportunity. I wish them nothing but the best of luck and am most happy that the attempt at "public shaming" of UNT will end. As anyone with a cool head and a business sense knew...this was going to be the end result. UNT was going to buy that property. They did...and Ken got a good deal. Now...on to the next adventure for the Sub Hub...I hope. Car wash and bookstore up next in the negotiations...maybe Hunter can help them out with a cool attempt at public shaming...worked so well for him, right? Ha! Me thinks the car wash and bookstore owners are more on the business acumen of Ken rather than Hunter. WE shall see...we shall see.

Things are beginning to shape up nicely...we have several new player sig-ups (could certainly use more) and our revenue so far has crested the $3000.00 mark with more to come from pledges and our silent auction. My thanks to those on the GMG.com site that have reached out to help by either donating or playing. Still looking for silent auction items, players and donations. If you can help...please do. It is for a wonderful cause. http://one.unt.edu/annual-spring-classic http://one.unt.edu/annual-spring-classic-donation-page

So, here's my idea...and yes, I stole it from my son's military academy...I have spoken to any numerous folks at UNT and can get absolutely ZERO traction and interest in this idea, but I think it has merit and my son's academy has gotten decent traction from its young grads through this program. Here's the idea....now bear in mind...many of the graduates from this academy start with a first salary (if they were to work a full year) in the low six figure range...not bad, and everyone gets a job! So, yes, a tad different than UNT...plus NO ONE graduates with any debt. But, here you go. The campaign is centered around: "is Your Education and Degree Worth a Nickle a Day?" The idea is to get recent grads "giving back", but in an amount not overly prohibitive. So, first year out a grad would give: $ 18.25 for the year. Next year $ 36.50. Next year: $ 54.75. Next year: $ 73.00. OK you get the drill. It is not until the sixth year after graduation that the amount goes over $100.00. It is a fine way, in my opinion, to get grads...recent ones...involved in "giving back" and "paying it forward". And, you might be surprised to learn that even though these grads make very good money and are employed immediately after graduation, the percentage that donate is very small. UNT is not alone. The reasons run the gauntlet for why they do not give back...just like they do at UNT, and yes, many are simply excuses, but they result is the same...very low interest in "giving back". Thus, even such a university as this academy has to come up with clever ways to entice folks to donate. I do think such a program might have some merit should UNT give it a try, but as I mentioned, no one at UNT seems interested. What ya think? Worth a try or not? Certainly a nice "gimmick" for the student callers and it might at least get some folks "talking and listening" other than an immediate hang up or "no". Plus, a unique idea to explain on the call...could be fun.
