KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Bright spot for UNT this weekend. These ladies are getting it going early this year and have a pretty deep roster. Should be another great year for Mean Green soccer. Congrats on this win ladies!- 1 reply

MGB: Carlos Harris comes to defense of McNulty
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Ha! I said I was anxious. I'll be at Apogee Saturday and at the Coach Mac Show Monday before then and on campus for two meetings this week. So, anxious yes, doubting...no! I have learned to "see" the light at the end of the tunnel. And I still believe that light is no longer a freight train. It just seems to grow in distance every now and again just when I think the light is growing brighter and brighter. -
MGB: Carlos Harris comes to defense of McNulty

See this as a perfect example of what I am talking about. JRock is a long time loyal fan. He is not a "little boy always crying wolf", nor his he a constant bitcher or whiner. In fact, he often tries to be a voice of reason. When he expresses such frustrations in the sane and sound manner he has causes me much anxiety. Why? Because there are probably many more just like him who are solid fans feeling the exact same way. We together, simply must find a way to right this ship for the long term in terms of establishing a winning tradition. To me that does not have to mean bowl games every year forever. While that might be great it is pretty unrealistic at this point and time. But, a winning record most years is certainly doable for the Mean Green. It will take a great number of folks to make this happen. -
MGB: Carlos Harris comes to defense of McNulty

Carlos wasn't born as yet during the "darkness". Check your history. I am in my 50th year of supporting this program and university in one manner or another. There have been some heartfelt comments made today in this thread and in others without whining or bitching from some long time loyal supporters. And I heard more today in person and many more after the game last night. When folks who never bitch and whine start expressing serious concerns and reservations one must take note. Sure the "little boys who cry wolf" all the time, stop buying tickets and stop donating are paid little to no mind, but, these folks, who continue to donate and buy tickets through the "darkness", when they share such frustrations as "things just never seem to change no matter who the Coach is and no matter who the AD is after all the years I have been supporting"... And that is a whole bunch longer than when Carlos was in Junior High...someone needs to pay attention. Every program has "fair weather friends" and UNT is no exception to that, in fact it might just be the rule, but these folks sharing such frustration is serious business. You cannot build a program on fair weather fans, but these folks are the ones programs can be built around. Together we simply must find a way to right this ship. I hate to use SMU for any example, but it is the only school to receive the death penalty and the results of that we're such that the NCAA never has nor never will use the death penalty again. But, even while UNT was still playing and SMU was "dead", UNT never found the rhythm of consistent winning. And, based on last night, obviously a one game sample, it appears from the SMU crowd, the facilities, the team, etc. that they may just be on the verge of coming out of their darkness. UNT too must find the way. -

HOF worthy! Perhaps a couple of those "adults" hijacked Carlos' Twitter account. -
Probably not for two reasons, 1. Portland State has proven this season that they cannot be overlooked. Ask Leach and Wash. St., and 2. I will be out of the country and probably not doing much posting. Must do a better job of scheduling these trips in the future...I miss this game, homecoming events and the UNT Alumni Awards event. Bummer. Smh...nope....just trying educate a few of the "usual suspects". Grudges are for folks in funny hats.

Well, in the spirit of Emmitt's comment about games I left out, let's just add a few more from the ranks of the big boys today... Ohio State over Hawaii by 41 Alabama over Middle by 35 USC over Idaho by 44 Florida State over South Florida by 28 UCLA over UNLV by 30.5 TX A&M over Ball St by 30 Arkansas over Toledo by 21.5 Ole Miss over Fresno St by 30.5 OK, that's enough. But let me ask this...who the heck is some yahoo at the Dallas Morning News named EJ Holland who has predicted the score at SMU 37 - UNT 17...what? Guy must be eating mushrooms and smoking weed while writing that stuff! Pffffft.....UNT takes down the ponies on the own home turf today...Book it Danno! And, yep, so glad I will be watching this Mean Green win rather than having to sit through the possible yawners these big boys have set up for today!
-
And, you believed that? Silly you. Just looking at some of the big boys and their home opponents today. A little perspective helps sometimes. The UNT-SMU match up is far far more attractive than any of those listed big boy schedules. And, both teams and their fans are expecting an exciting and competitive game. You think the same can be said for the above match-ups? Almost like making NFL fans pay full price for those inane pre-season games. Agree...good point. Missed that one. Go Rice! but, most of all...BEAT SMU!
-
Yes, Sir, by far a more exciting game will be UNT's win today at SMU. Just look at these great competitive Big XII match ups today. Only one seems to have even a chance of an upset or being even close to competitive. Lamar at Baylor.... Continues the history of soft non-conference match ups for Baylor...predicted score Baylor 73. Lamar 7 SFA at TCU... No. 3 TCU taking on powerhouse SFA...way to go Frogs...predicted score TCU 56 SFA 6 UTEP at TTech... Well, this one has a chance to be decent...UTEP got whacked by Ark but Tech is no powerhouse...still predicted score Tech 38 UTEP 27 Central Ark at OSU... Really Okie State? Really?....predicted score OSU 42 Central Ark 7 Yes Sir...give me the Mean Green and the Ponies with the Mean Green winning the "Safeway Bowl" today.

Yep...still on!

Our great UNT Cheer Squad is hosting its first ever North Texas Cheer Golf Classic on Oct. 20 th at Champions Circle! They are hoping to make enough funds from the tournament to cover the majority of the costs associated with their Daytona Cheer Championships travel. As many of you know, the GMG.Com Basketball Classic also helps support UNT Cheer, but with scholarship funds. This tournaments hopes to raise travel and tournament expenses. They need your help. If you play golf, please consider getting a foursome together or simply signing up to play as an individual golfer. If you own or work for a business that might be interested in helping to sponsor this tournament, please give that some thought as well. Both the playing fees and sponsorship fees are very reasonable as you can see below: i also have the brochure that one can use to enter, sponsor, etc., so just PM me with your email address and I will get it to you ASAP. Please pass this info around to others who you think might be interested in playing, sponsoring or both. It's a great and worthy cause and it will definitely help some great ambassadors for UNT make it to the upcoming Cheer Championships in Daytona, Florida. They do indeed have to raise their own funds for this trip. Anything you could do to help would, of course, be greatly appreciated.

You might also remind him that the checkbook can close as easy as it opens and that going to the games just might be good for his "spendable assets". That sort of "discussion" always seemed to work well with my kids when we had a slight difference of opinion over the importance of things. Then again, you might remind him of the short shorts, white blouses and cowboy boot tradition with some of our co-eds. That might do better than the checkbook routine. Either way, the lad just must go...might get to see Dad too! Edit: a little positive reinforcement for good behavior can't hurt, right?
-
100%...totally agree! When this forum gets into one of these "genuine discussions", it really is a very enjoyable, informative and entertaining thread. Heard the same thing....and something about another key player hurt and possibly out. Don't want to say here as this is a public forum, and well....you know SMU.

Ok, I know we have folks on both sides of this trade deal, and I recognize that I was one who was and still is thinking the trade was a bad move on the part of the Rangers. I also indicated that I thought Josh would spend more time on the DL than on the field. That last part has pretty much happened, and, yes, injuries can happen to anyone. But, we all know Josh has abused his body in more ways than one and is prone to injury. So, in reflection, and for some of you die hard professional baseball and Rangers fans, what are you thinking now about this trade? I know the, "well the Rangers didn't eprisk much money" in trading for him line will come up. But, in that regard, let me ask this question. If you were in the market for a used car, would you buy one you knew had engine and transmission problems and a history of breakdowns just because it was cheap? At any amount of money, is that a good buy? Not, hating on Josh here as he seems to have been a model citizen since returning and seems to have fit back into the lockeroom well (which I had thought might have been a problem but has not seemingly been so), but, at any price what real good has he been for the Rangers. And, better yet, what good night he be in the future? I still believe he will spend more time on the DL than on the field if and when he ever returns to the lineup. OK, you baseball folks, let's here your reasoned response. Will Josh Hamilton be able to help the Rangers...now, next year or in the future?

Might have been a bigger crowd if folks knew it was taking place on Labor Day. No email to MGC members, no mention in the MGC regular announcements emails....only spot was on meangreensports.com. Why the schedule was not sent out in the last regular MGC email is a mystery to me. I had no clue it was starting on Labor Day until about 3PM that afternoon. I am glad I made it as the show was pretty good and I always enjoy hearing from a couple of our players. As another Mean Green fan mentioned to me...all the Iowa and Iowa State talk by Mac finally has some relevance! Priceless comment.

One must realize that dates are important as well...not just opponents. Sigh...this RV can't schedule stuff is getting to be a beat down. Is what it is, folks. All the carping here is not going to change one thing...nothing. Want to help make changes? We all know how that is actually done in athletic programs across the nation. And, how it isn't done is constantly whining and carping on some fan message board. But, if doing so makes one feel better or endears them within the "all is wrong ... nothing is good at UNT" crowd, and that's what they want, then so be it. Carp on!

UNT90... Is that you? Come on Jim. We haven't even played a game as yet. Perhaps you should see the team in a game or two before you just go and write the season off. The Mean Green beats SMU and then Rice at home and you might change your tune. UNT loses both of those games and I might join you in sitting through another disappointing season for the Mean Green. Yes, sitting through is correct as we both would be in that 1500 size crowd you predict. Win, lose, draw...we'll be there. PS...I still have that wager $$$ you handed me to hold for you...thought about spending it a couple of times on some new Mean Green gear for you and MeanGreenTexan, but decided against it. :-)

Congrats to Marshall. Played a great game and made plays when they needed to do so to seal the win. Well, there is 1:05 left...I hope I don't jinx Marshall in the last 60 seconds. Nope...no way...Marshall has this! Congrats CUSA brother!

Indiana. You forget that win over a Big Ten team at Apogee? Imagine that...winning a home game over a P5 in Apogee.
-
Yep...sure do...but I am not bitching about it with every breath like some continue to do. But, you knew that too Plus...I want Army, Navy, SMU, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Air Force, etc. at Apogee. Not the big P5's you are constantly whining about. But, you read this board, so you knew that as well.
-
Shhhhhhhhhhh......don't burst their "all bad all the time" bubbles. You don't understand. You burst this bubble they will just have to work that much harder to come up with a new excuse as to why they won't support the Mean Green.
-
Depends upon which P5 team. But, of course you know that.

And so it begins

Well, I did take him for some cash on our bet regarding the number of wins for Mean Green basketball a couple of years ago. So, if you can pin him down, and if he loses, he will definitely pay up. So, there is that. -

Just curious. What is that wager? -
But, it isn't easier to find a place to park once you get there.
