MGB: Villarreal -- "We have things we need to finish here"
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
So, do I fly....just commenting on the fact that Cerebus stated that Harry pays for it all. I hope he gets mega rich too and joins that very small list of big UNT donors. Harry gets help in paying for it through all those banner ads. Just clearing up the facts that Cerebus so intentionally left out of his reply. I am all for capitalism! :-) -

You are the one who said "allowed to" ... Not me. Seems you need to check those rules. You are great at completely missing points...there is none so blind as those who will not see. Seems I am following the rules. Is there a rule about posting negative stuff about one's employing institution during office hours? Can you look that one up for me? And, I am guessing all the banner ads and such now help a good bit to pay for this board as well. Like that snappy X-Ray tech school ad up on mine right now. Or, are those just allowed out of the goodness of someone's heart? You are the tech guy....tell me, those just go up gratis? I, for some reason, thought that was one reason folks like to get lots of hits on their boards...the more hits the more ads, the more ads the more revenue....no? Could just be pennies. But, if so, why allow them at all?- 282 replies

Oh, they are on. Thanks for your concern. They have to be...I have been in the stands and seats for over fifty years supporting UNT. THAT, Sir, takes lots of big boy pants. -

Has zero to do with "allowed to". Has everything to do with respect for differing opinions. The fact that you even think people with different opinions need to be"allowed" to post speaks volumes and pretty much allows me to rest my case. -

Opinions actually not welcome on GMG.Com. Only option is to scream "everything at UNT sucks and I won't support my school any longer until what I want to happen happens". Other opinions need not apply. You just now figuring that out? Really no need for anyone with a differing opinion to post these days. It is no longer a fan board open to all opinions.- 282 replies

MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Never once said I was in favor of a committee. Just responding to the statement that faculty would be a bad fit for a committee. There are a good many faculty that I would be most comfortable with having on a committee should one be formed. To suggest they would be any less qualified than alumni members is ridiculous. Lots of folks here on GMG.Com "claim" expertise. What makes them any more qualified than faculty in your mind...including you or me for that matter....or any of the mystical 17 that posters here refuse to name? -
MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, indeed I would. As for just one such example, I know a faculty member who has donated and pledged well over $300,000 to athletics, attends every football and men's and women's BB games along with other team sports as well. Who plays in every Don January golf tournament, attends the conference BB tournaments and knows as much or more about UNT and UNT athletics as any person I know in or outside UNT. He is not alone among faculty either, just one of the larger donors I personally know. And, he has been so involved for many years. He would, indeed, be a very qualified member of any possible search committee if so asked. He is one of the most professional people I know associated with UNT in any way. So, as you said...of course I would. -

Then you might be surprised to learn that there are a good many faculty members who know a great deal about athletics, love athletics, support athletics and donate to athletics at UNT. I would be more than comfortable having any of these faculty representatives on the committee should, in fact, a search committee be formed to help select our next HC.- 78 replies

I agree...any AD can make new facilities happen...but none did until Rick. Folks who are recent to the program don't remember all the past promises from past AD's it seems and are very quick to dismiss what Rick has done with facilities. That is a shame as it short changes his efforts. It isn't easy at UNT due to numerous reasons that will not be discussed here, but read GMG.Com and you will understand a big reason why it is so hard and find the history of past administrations if you want the facts and not just rumors. If you want to fault Rick for coaching hires, well so be it, but to short change his efforts in upgrading facilities at UNT is in very poor form and very ignorant of UNT history. Indeed he did not wave a magic wand....if only that could have been the case it would have happened long ago. As to the BOR, you are correct, they approve or not capital projects but they don't initiate the campaigns, create the plans or raise the funds...they approve or not others efforts. The BOR never ever proposed a new football stadium, athletic complex or any other facility. They approve or not and allocate funds over which they hold sway. The hard work is done by the boots on the ground. I know of your efforts as well in the Apogee program through student government, so you are very much aware of the boots on the ground.

No....I have been told that is not true. It was not done in front of the players. yes...guys were still in the locker room, but it did not happen in front of them. This "Scoop" stuff does not even indicate as such. How such rumors get started is always a mystery and why folks seem to want to believe the worst of things in rumors is an even bigger mystery. It did happen immediately after the game, but it was not a surprise to Coach Mac. When should it happen? I have no idea what created the situation that it happened immediately after the game, but it does give Chico a little extra time to prepare for a quick turn around Thursday night game.
-
Did not happen in front of the players.

How many articles have you read where folks withdraw academic support due to athletic personnel? Indeed, overall donations go up with athletic success...absolutely no question about that, but withdrawing already happening academic support because of a losing football program or a specific athletic staffer is harsh no matter how you cut it or try to dress it up. Those kids on scholarship, many the first from their families to attend college, have zero control over such things and rely heavily on that academic support in order to attend.

Really? Over a football HC and athletic director? Hopefully, you are just super upset at the moment. Do our students really deserve this? What have they done to warrant support withdrawal? Man, that's pretty harsh.

Wasn't it announced that we have dual interims in Chico and Cosh? Or, did I hear that wrong? Any verification as yet?

McCarney Relieved Of Head Coaching Duties (official statement)
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Always tough to let any employee go. Unfortunately, I have had to do it many times, but in many cases it just had to be done. And, this seems to be one of those cases. It's easy to call for someone else to fire someone...much tougher to be the one having to make that call. None the less, it was time...perhaps a game or two past time, but time to move on. All hail...the king is dead...long live the king! Hopefully, everyone understands the meaning behind that statement. Pretty obvious, but you never know. Personally, I will always remember fondly that Heart of Dallas Bowl victory which was so long in coming. Hard to describe that feeling as a member of the great, but long suffering football Mean Green Nation. Mac led the team to that bowl victory, so I will remember his tenure for that. I wish him well in whatever way he decides to turn...HC, coordinator, position coach or retirement. But, as RV said, it is time for UNT to turn in a new direction. Seems obvious that Mac had lost this team. Much like June Jones lost last year's version of the SMU team. All but impossible to lead once you have lost the trust and confidence of those you try to lead. So, for everyone's benefit, this move had to be made...and it was. Hopefully, the team will rally around our co-interim coaches, and we will witness a new invigorated Mean Green come Thursday. Man, tough to have a Thursday game after a HC change, but it was time none the less. Mac gave us all he had and then some. The vast majority of fans praised the hire, but it just did not work for any number of reasons...pick your own favorite. But, no one can say that Mac did not give it all he had and then some. I thank Mac for that effort and for what he tried to do for the Mean Green Nation. No coach ever likes to lose nor coaches to lose. Perhaps, in Mac's case, it was more style than anything else that did him in here and with today's players. Position coaches seem to be able to get away with the "old school" stuff more than today's HC. Players don't seem to respond to it like they once did...unless, of course, your name is Saban and you are actually winning national championships. I do also worry about all the assistants who must be concerned about their positions as well. Times like these are tough on coaching families.- 19 replies

The entire club level is laughing at you Dan
KRAM1 replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm awake and here...what you want to know? I thought I have spelled it out many times here on GMG.Com. My position of support has been the same since long before GMG.Com existed (and probably before you were born), and I have not...nor will I...change my position of support for UNT and who ever is HC, AD, President, etc. As for today's announcement....The king is dead....long live the king! You see, UNT is bigger than any HC, President, etc. I have seen plenty since 1965. Plenty have come and gone...yet my support remains. Why that is hard for anyone to understand is beyond my scope of imagination. You and others are free to support based on personalities and/or individuals. You are free to support or withdraw your support based on such or whatever you choose. Me? I support UNT no matter...good times or bad. That seems to get under some folks skins and then they start attacking me and calling me names...so very mature of them. But, it is what it is. I simply consider the maturity of the source. Anything else you need to know since I am wide awake?- 27 replies

KRAM1 replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Ahhhhh..... Didn't even have the nerve to come say hello in the Club level after my invitation before the first home game. Says about all I need to know. My original opinion just keeps getting reinforced with every post. You might want to join Ryan Munthe back in Junior High. Your comments would get tons of giggles there. Sorry if my comments hit too close to home for you, but, as they say....if the shoe fits, you might as well wear it. Like most who don't like anyone upsetting their "everything is bad all the time" apple cart, you just attack the messenger. See, you would spend all your work day time at UNT on GoMeanGreen praising my greatness if I just thought your swill was keen, while like you I spent my time here playing to the hater crowd and, trying to convince folks of my intelligence all the while posting really cool graphics. I just find it hard that you have any time to get any work done on a regular basis. Must be nice to hate on the folks who sign your paycheck and give you all that GMG.Com posting time. -

So mature of you! When one cannot respond appropriately it speaks volumes. Stuck pig squeals it seems. You don't support the program anyway, so why should you even care? You have that "talk is cheap" thing down pat. Go post with those other 4-5 haters. It befits you more.

And, you keep spewing your venom. I support UNT...period. You obviously know zero about me or my reasons. You simply have no clue...speak for yourself. You have enough trouble doing that.
-
Hmmmmmm....no. Trip planned before the schedule came out, but that is beside the point. Fair weather fans and folks who think the players don't think it is about them are the delusional ones. Don't want to support your university unless it is all wins and bowl games? Good for you...just go away and come back when the next wagon fills and bring your t-shirt with you. But, stop blaming everyone else for low funds, low budgets, lack of funds to hire the best coaching staffs. Just go back and we'll see you when (if) the winning starts again. It is the UNT so-called fan way.....talk big, support little. With all due respect, of course. I am fully aware of the status of this program. But, it is MY university and that over rides the win/loss record for me. I am here for the long road and have been since the Odus Mitchell days. So, don't talk to me about delusional. My support is not for any coach, Ad, staffer or individual. I've been here through all of them since. It is for UNT....period. If you get this, you stay and you support our programs and student-athletes. If you don't, good for you. It just means it's only about you and how your water cooler buddies talk. That, Sir, seems to be the difference and it is a difference so many so-called UNT fans don't get. And, it is a big reason why we find ourselves in the situation we are in today. Win/lose, this coach or another...I'll be there and so will my Mean Green Club donations and season ticket purchases. It's all about scholarship dollars and paying it forward to the university who did so much for me and taught me so much. I understand this is hard for many to understand, just watch the -1's build on this post to see what I mean. But, it is much much bigger than a coach or a won/loss record to me. It's all about paying forward a debt of gratitude.

So, James, mattmartin and meangreendan.....you are saying as a 19-20 year old player, you wouldn't take it personally? Really? Or maybe you are wearing black and think that is a great way to show your support?
