Sorry...got the dates mixed up. I will go back and try to edit that...thanks. Good catch.

Looks like Saturday, February 27th is the date for our 6th annual...can you believe it has been six years...Basketball Classic in support of the great UNT Cheer team student-athletes. The hope this year...and the goal...is to raise in excess of $3000.00 for the Cheer Scholarship Fund after expenses. Can we do it? Absolutely, but it will take your help and support. This year the player registration fee will be $30.00. I have held the cost flat for the past five years while costs have continued to increase and sponsorships have remained flat. I have boosted the playing fee only by $5.00 in the hopes that it will not discourage anyone from playing. If it does, PM me. I intend to set up a GoFundMe site for player fees, donations, sponsorships, etc. this year for the first time after seeing how that site has worked for a couple of other projects lately. May need help with that "setting it up" thing. If you know how and might like to help just send me a PM. Thanks in advance for the help. Here is what we know to date: Date: Saturday, February 27th Place: UNT Volleyball Gym Time: Check-in begins at Noon with tip-off at 1:00pm Fee: $30 per player Goal: $3,000.00 plus for the scholarship fund What do we need: Players Donors Sponsors-PM me if you own a company or work for one that might be interested in helping us raise scholarship funds. Silent auction items-PM me with questions or if you might like to donate an item or two or three Volunteers for: Set up, referees (need 2-3), to helpmanage the snack bar, to help get sponsors, for registration, to help find donors, for take-down after the event Spectators to cheer for their players and to bid on silent auction items As you can see, we are just getting started. Feel free to post here should you wish to participate in any manner. We have some who have played and/or participated in every one of these games to date. It has to be fun if they keep coming back, right? Thanks...with your help we can exceed our goal and have a great time doing it...all the while supporting some worthy UNT student-athletes.

100% agree about Middle Tennessee, but the Ka was referring to games at Apogee. Middle is on the road of course. But, absolutely...Beat Middle too! Why not North Texas!

Like I said, Ben, not every post and thread is an invitation to re-hash what has been said over and over, and no one is going to change positions because of some post. Time to back it down a notch or two with the rehortic. At least for me. Perhaps you might consider joining me in an attempt to back away from the "my way or the highway" thinking.

There was a winning score for the Mean Green on the scoreboard the last time they played at Apogee. Whatever this Ka thing is, let's hope it helps to bring another Mean Green winning score to that Apogee scoreboard a week from this Saturday when the Mean Green take on the Miners from UTEP. Beat UTEP! Go Mean Green!

That was a fun night. And, so was the night of the win over OSU. Super Pit was rockin' both nights. Hard to pick a winner between the two games for "best". I just enjoyed them both so very much. A fun UNT men's team to watch plays tonight at 7pm in the Super Pit. Why not come on out and see what you think of this year's squad. A little early to tell much, sure, but you could be in for an enjoyable time and maybe even see a Mean Green win. Starting out 2-0, no matter the competition, sure looks good right now to a fan base in a funk.

After reading Brett Vito's piece in today's Denton-Record Chronicle, it dawned on me that what we have is a fan base in a big time funk! For whatever reason, we are there. All of us...not just the banner boys led by UNT90 or the flyonthewall boys, but rather all of us. We are down and we are grumpy. We have friends here fighting against each other for no other reason than we have differences of opinion. We have long time fans saying they will no longer support the program. We have football fanatics saying they will fly their flags upside down, wear black or simply stay home. We have folks calling those who disagree with them childish names and, at times, being downright hateful. Brett got it right when he said that the fanbase is "demoralized". And that "demoralized" thing is showing itself in some pretty distasteful ways among the faithful. And, folks, that is not good, and it is worse than just being unhappy over a won-loss record, a coach or AD or whatever else. Brett is right. We need someone to rally the troops. But, before that, we need the fans we have left to stop fighting among themselves over different opinions of what needs to be done. No one...no one...is going to change anyone else's mind on how/what needs to be done to right this ship. Opinions are pretty much set by now. Don't believe that? Check out this site over the last few week's postings. Every thread becomes the same either immediately or soon thereafter. Same people pretty much saying the same thing over and over and over and over. And, yet, here we are...even deeper in that funk. The lines of difference dug deeper and deeper as if it were WWI trench warfare all over again. So, what's to do? Well, hire a great new coach for one thing, but I have no power or influence over that and I dare say few others here do either. So, what can we do to ease the funk? Well, for me, and perhaps for you as well, tone it down, step back a bit and realize we all want the best for UNT (yes, I make that assumption). Realize that in the grand scheme of things arguing a position to the point of getting childish and nasty does no one any good and certainly does nothing to improve the situation for UNT. In fact, it probably worsens it as long time UNT friends build walls that may or may not be able to be tumbled down once all this funk has past...and it will pass. It will. So, I am stepping back from the fray. No, I am not leaving GMG.Com, and I'll still be posting from time to time. I am just going to try to step back from the funk in the hopes others might see the emptiness of carrying forward so much bitterness toward other members of the same great Mean Green Nation. Sure, have your differences, do what you think you should do, but tone it down. Not every thread is an invitation for conflict. Not every thread needs to delve into the same subject. Not every thread needs to be a "my way or the highway" thread. We have long ago lost the ability to have great discussions without all the drama and conflict. I think it is time we returned to our respectful dialogues about the Mean Green. And, yes, it's time for humor to return to GMG.Com. Hopfully, I am not the only one to believe that we can once again be a united and great fan base. No, not united in the same opinions, of course, but at least respectful of those other opinions and our friends who hold differing opinions. We can either stand together in support of UNT or we will fall alone. It is time to get out of the funk as a fan base and realize that things can change, and that together we will and can overcome this malaise we are currently suffering through. I pledge to try. Hard? Sure. Anyone else care to at least try? Thanks, Brett Vito, for an insightful column this morning. Pretty much nailed the need. Someone must emerge as a HC to help bring this fan base hope for a better tomorrow. Because right now, it's in pretty much a big time funk.

Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling

I am sure you don't. It takes too much time out of your day polishing that one bullet they let you keep in your shirt pocket. -
Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
KRAM1 replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
Second time you used this line in the last few minutes in separate threads. You are in a rut here. It's just that rcade always stiffed everyone with the check while faking being drunk. Everyone knew he went into the men's room and poured his beer down the toilet. And, I promise, I shaved very close. He even stiffed me for the pizza. And, now he says he doesn't even remember. That hurts.- 77 replies

Indian American Ashok Mago appointed to UNT System Board of Regents

I wish others here who post about the BOR actually knew as much as you do about how the BOR actually operates and what they are and are not responsible for in their oversight. Thank you. It is a breath of fresh air. -
Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
KRAM1 replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
Hit too close to home I see. Doubt I was that girl as you were always known at the Tomato as cheap and usually left the tab for someone else after faking drunkedness as I recall. But, I don't remember us dating either. Heck, I thought I shaved closer than that. -
Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
KRAM1 replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
Wasn't meant to be a defense of anyone...just completing what was said, so folks would get the full story. Half-truths to fuel agendas really do no person any good. If the full truth gets folks excited to the extent my clearing it up obviously has, some folks might want to just stop reading GMG.Com. How anyone interprets the comments is up to them and open for discussion. Just get the full story so you don't look so ignorant in that discussion. Nope...you missed it...again. Or should I say...still. Not discussing "his job". Just cleaning up the half-truth you posted. Wanted folks to discuss what was actually said and not just the part you felt fit with your agenda. Folks are free to discuss the full story from any position they want. But, don't worry, the banner boys will come to your aid and all will be wrong at UNT once more. You will feel just keen in your negativity. Got it!- 77 replies

Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
KRAM1 replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
Ha! You banner boys are delusional. All I did was add the part that UNT90 left out. And, all the banner boys go off as if I had just burst their little world all to pieces. You banner boys sure have painted yourselves into a nice corner where you like to see half-truths as the gospel. I don't care if you want to waste your money on silly banners...it's your money after all. Just get the stories correct. What gets old KingDL1 is you protecting your pals and hammering those you see as opposed to the hater party line. There is an ignore button now, right? Feel free to use it. The Infidel seems to have removed himself from that other board to join in the fun with you banner boys. So, hey, the gangs all here now. If you don't like hall monitors as you call it KingDL1, make sure your pals tell the full story...not just half-truths to fit their agendas. I don't understand why opposing views bother some so much, but it is interesting. Even our very own west Texas Barney Fife wants to be one of the popular kids so bad yet Andy just won't let him take that one bullet out of his pocket, right Brian? Keep trying, the banner boys might let you be one of their own one of these days yet. Hey...to quote UNT90.... "Get over it...it's just a message board after all". Funny how us using that line chaps some folks so much. You banner boys like to dish it out, but you sure have thin skins when you think something gets tossed back at you or when something hits a tad close to home. That KingDL1 is really what gets old....the thin skin of the banner boys.- 77 replies

Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
KRAM1 replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, you got it part right. These games will continue. The convenient part you left out...a common occurrence in your "everything is bad mantra", is that he has stated publicly that he would prefer not to schedule these games. And will not, as soon as funds are available from ticket sales, donations, Mean Green Club memberships, etc. to not have to schedule such games. But, of course, leaving that part out makes it so much easier for you to justify your "UNT sucks all the time in everything" mantra.- 77 replies

I have, and indeed he is a very approachable guy. The wise old adage about "praising in public" and "criticizing in private" is very appropriate. And for those inquiring minds out there....no, we were not discussing athletics. Dr. Smatresk is very aware of what is going on at UNT. The depth of his knowledge regarding the needs of UNT along with its strength is amazing to me after such a short tenure at the helm. Sure, set up an appointment, it is a much better idea than a billboard or banner. But, be professional and courteous as he will be that for you. Also, remember, he may not agree with you, but he will listen...and better yet, he will hear you!

Quiet...folks here want to forget this same scheduling philosophy from year's past. Some referred to Jarvis as a high school...don't recall such talk with a former coach scheduled them to help jump-start the season. This time #2 is Texas College I believe. I always fret about these games a bit as even this year a few "upsets" have already taken place. Setting a winning tone is not bad for either the team or the fans. Hope to see a bigger crowd for Texas College Monday at 7pm. This team looks like it will be fun to watch...come see!

total wine
KRAM1 replied to THOR's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
It opened yesterday! You must already be known as the Total Wine Guy. Or are the sales folks THAT good? -
UNT men will definitely win more than 11 games. Hey, UNT90... Want to bet? Proceeds to the Cheer Squad scholarship once again? Another $100 that they win 12 or more?
-
I think that's about right...maybe 2500 at max. No Little Dribblers and their parents skewing attendance. Sort of disappointed in the student attendance. Yes, they were spread out pretty much everywhere, but even so, not much student support for their fellow students...men or women's games. I do think student and overall attendance will improve as the word gets out that this is a pretty fun team to watch.

Watch the UNT NCAA game 7PM Live on Texas Tech's site
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Seems to me to be a bit of the classic Premier League and England National Team style of "kick and run". Had a coach in my son's club team from England who always stressed that if you were in trouble just "kick it to the flag" and run. We had speedsters who could catch up to many of those long balls. But, even watching Coach Hedlund back in the day when he was an assistant on the UNT men's team...yes, the UNT men's team, that kick and run style was apparent. Another assistant coach, David Hudgell, was from England and at that time that style was overriding in English play. It has served him well over the last years, but as we saw with the England National team on the world stage, can become problematic against certain other styles of play. One goal game last night, so not sure I would fault the style as much as bemoan the many missed opportunities. Lots of yellow being flashed around as well by those refs. I am sure we are all proud of this team. I know I am as it is a bright spot along with golf, tennis, cross country, volleyball, etc. at the moment. Losing in the NCAA's in the first round is tough, but getting there was a goal it it was met. Too bad the season had to end and extra bad that our all-time greatest goalkeeper had to miss the game due to injury. Congrats to the Mean Gren Soccer Ladies on a fine season, the CUSA Championship, Tournament Championship and NCAA berth. wear your champions rings with pride....you earned them. -
But, he can't see the banner from inside the dome!

Glad I could inspire you. When you grow up maybe you too can reach such heights. As to the question...I have already told you why and in person. About that ESPN gig... I know...I was asked once by a local radio guy...when we had a local radio gig...if I would have any interest in doing a call-in talk show. I think the guy was drunk at the time, but, hey, he mentioned it. I would have even used my own name. How about that? Unlike ..... Oh, never mind.
