  1. We have a title sponsor for our scholarship basketball game supporting the UNT Cheer Team! The guys at Eastside and Oak Street, John Wiiliams and Jeff Brightwell have presented us with our largest one-time donation to the scholarship effort! Our game will now be named: THE EASTSIDE-OAK STREET CLASSIC. If you had no other reason already, this is a great reason to visit both Eastside Denton (117 E. Oak St.) and Oak Street Drafthouse & Cocktail Parlor (308 E. Oak) for an adult beverage or two. These folks are leading the way for Denton area businesses in their support for not only UNT, but the Denton Community in general. Part of their sponsorship will involve a LIVE player draft for our game this year beginning at NOON on Saturday, Feb. 7th at East Side Denton. We will set up at East Side for our player draft. All are invited...not just invited, but encouraged to attend...players, friends, etc. we should have a great time during the draft as we will gather together with a few great beers/drinks from East Side. We will also hand out player t-shirts and complete registration for those players in attendance. So, this should be a bunch of fun. Now...what else does this mean? Well it means that noon on FEB 6th is the deadline for player sign-ups! So, Mark your calendar for noon on Saturday Feb. 6th for our live player draft...then those that wish can join us in heading over to the Super Pit for the 3pm tip-off of the UNT-LA Tech men's basketball game! We also have a great Eastside/Oak Street short sleeve Dickie work shirt (men's XL) in light blue and a grey Eastside t-shirt (men's L) for our silent auction as well. This is going to be fun folks...come be part of our live player draft...bring your friends and have a beer or two and help re-pay John and Jeff for their generosity in becoming our title sponsor!
  2. At this time I am aware of the following who have indicated that they will play in this year's game: THOR Andrew R. McKinney GMG24 smoothfresh UNT90 UNTFan23 CURTISDAA UNTTAU VINCE HARRY That's a good count so early, and I appreciate all who have confirmed so far. But, lots of room left for players. So, check those calendars and get the date down so you will be counted. Feb. 27th with a 1pm tip-off in the UNT volleyball gym. Playing fee is $30 which includes the already a classic game t-shirt! :-) Just let me know by posting here along with your t-shirt size. Registration fees and/or donations can be handled through the event GoFundMe account at: http://www.gofundme.com/9parj2nk Thinking about having a live draft party at Eastside here in Denton on Saturday, Feb. 7th beginning at noon. Then everyone who would like could head over to the UNT men's basketball game against LA Tech that tips off at 3pm. What ya think?
  3. What was so great watching this game in person was watching how Jalie handled the team when they lost a twelve point lead to go down two late. No panic...just a look of confidence that she was in control and the players knew it. These ladies play some tough defense and move the ball with a much more up tempo style than the last few years. They are fun to watch. Doing this with nine players...playing an up tempo style and tough defense can take it out of a team with limited substitutes. Not these ladies. They play! Proud of these ladies. Great win tonight! So much fun seeing them leave the court with such big smiles on their faces. As has been said before...these ladies deserve to have more folks come out in support. They are earning that respect. Here's hoping the Mean Green Nation respond.
  4. A little hyperbole perhaps? Back away from the cliff a bit. We will have a head coach.
  5. Got you down for a large! And, yep...got you down as paid as well. Thanks, Andrew...appreciate your support and the extra amount over the registration fee that you donated.
  6. Just a reminder to all playing or considering playing in this game that the GoFundMe site will also be used for registration fees. Hopfully, this will make it easy for folks to pay their registration fees before arriving.
  7. Hmmmm...no, because I have no idea what the guidelines were for the folks running this or donating to it like we all had for the first banner....it was to fly at a football game...one of the last two depending upon weather. Money was to be returned if it did not fly. The organizer changed the deal and flew it on some random day over the campus. As it turned out, for the banner boys, that was a decision that at least lead to its flight as the plane would probably have been grounded for UTEP as well. Did the original banner organizer offer each and every donor the opportunity for a refund since the game plan was changed mid-stream from the original? Every donor get a PM or email asking if they wanted a refund? If so, OK...if not...bait and switch. Since I have no clue regarding such things for the alternative banner, I simply cannot say one way or the other. My opinion remains that much better good could have come from those funds...both banners...should they have been used to help fund scholarships.
  8. Silent Auction takes place on Feb 27th on game day. We have some time to figure it out. PM me with your thoughts...really appreciate your donations. They should be very much in demand.
  9. The head of the ticket office has already been relieved of her duties. A focus is definitely on fixing the challenges that have been the UNT ticket office. We can all keep our fingers crossed that, in fact, emphasis is placed on customer service within the ticket office in the coming weeks/months. Because UNT is a state entity there will be the not uncommon overly long period of time before a replacement can be hired. But, the focus is definitely on the ticket office at the current time. If you may have noticed, the folks working in that office now already seem to be doing a better job in the customer service arena. Once a new head is selected and perhaps a new full-time employee or two is hired, I suspect we will all notice a new and improved ticket office. Those working there now, in this period of transition, are trying to do their best and improve. Seems to me, progress is being made...heck, I even heard a great comment about the service a gentleman received recently in attempting to re-locate his season basketball seat locations. I think once new leadership is in place, we will see a much improved operation.
  10. Just saw a report that states that since there will not be enough six win teams to fill all the bowl slots this year, that team APR will be used as the deciding factor in which 5-7 teams get the invites. Interesting and out of the box thinking here...I like it. At the moment the APR's stack up as follows based on 2013-2014 scores (latest available): Nebraska: 985, Missouri: 976 (MO has stated they will not accept a bowl bid at 5-7), K State: 976 (still has a shot at 6 wins), Minnesota: 975, San Jose St: 975, Illinois: 973, and Rice: 973. Pretty unique way to choose. I have to hand it to the NCAA Division One Council for coming up with this concept. Good on you!
  11. I have it on even better authority that RV did not pay for that banner. People, you are letting your imaginations get the best of you. The banner in question was to fly the same day, over the same game, as the anti banner flew, but weather grounded both. I have to assume that banner was also bought and paid for, so it will fly at a newly appointed time just like the anti banner did. Anyone here think either banner had or will have any actual effect on the situation at all? Just think, the funds could have been used for a much more lasting reason such as funding scholarships for worthy UNT athletes who will help "right the ship" for UNT fans everywhere. Instead, we get opposing groups of fans just tossing money at banners that are seen by few, do absolutely nothing but sweeten the banner company and pilots pockets, give a few folks some short-term jollies, further split the fan base and give some reporters a new story to write. Yep, we are definitely in a funk these days.
  12. Those are great! One of the best games I have ever attended...other than our HOD Bowl victory... Was attending the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia one year. This is indeed America's Game!
  13. Who is that guy and why would he have any clue about such things? If the committee is made up of RV and Neal then one would be the source of the leak. Seems highly suspect to me.
  14. Very moving and inspirational. Not only is little McKenzie a special little girl, but way to go to that TCU player. TCU fan or not, here's one Mean Green fan that will be keeping that cute little Froggie in his thoughts and prayers. Thanks for sharing this Bill.
  15. Not everyone is a golfer or could play that day. So, how does this relate at all to you indicating that you know what a majority of current members think of RV?
  16. Just how do you know what "most of the current members" think or don't think about the current AD? I speculate here, but my guess is that one or two whom you happen to know said something to that effect and you immediately jump on it as if it were the gospel truth because it supports your opinions on the subject. Secondhand info is just that...secondhand...and worth pretty much nothing except to possibly know one person's opinion who is projecting his/her opinion on others. I would think that overall, the Lettermen actually active in the Association or who even support UNT these days are pretty much split on the matter as most such organizations would be as a general rule in such situations.
  17. Maybe the Harris twins...Carlos and DeAndre can be roommates now. They seem to share several characteristics. Now, let me see if I understand the rules here.....holding football players accountable for their actions is all well and good, but in the case of basketball players it is always someone else's fault. I think I have it now.
  18. Was it prime rib? I thought it was a nice roast. Either way...very nice and tender. Mac and cheese good too as well as the pecan pie. Now...about that game........
  19. LSU?
  20. Where...for some reason I can't find them.
  21. Let me promise you one thing...no one within the athletic department or university in general has ever mentioned you to me nor indicated they care about your posts other than other GMG.Com posters who have asked me..."do you know who that UNT90 guy is"? Try not to let your ego get out of hand here.
  22. Yep...he always referred to him as a mediocre Sun Belt QB. Odd that anyone would see that as "consistent support". Lots of others, however, did support DT.
  23. Not that bad of a crowd either given the day and the weather. These ladies play hard and are getting better each time out. Today they just seemed to run out of gas in the second half...turnovers became a problem...always a sign of a tired team...but, they played to the final buzzer. A bench with only nine players and a fasted paced up and down the floor game makes for tired legs. No excuse, but certainly a factor. Jalie is not using a short bench as an excuse and neither are the players, so expect them to fight on and win more this year than anyone expected...except maybe Jalie. Time for some of you folks to come see these ladies play in person. The team would love to see more folks in the stands.
  24. We just crested the 50% mark in the GoFundMe account! That is simply fantastic! Way to go folks..you guys rock. Thanks to all who have and who will, in the near future, push us over the full goal. http://www.gofundme.con/9parj2nk
