MGB: Liberty QB Nick Starkel talks about UNT offer, plans
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep. Seems to be a new day at UNT. So exciting at this early stage, and It appears to be more than just wishful new guy excitement. This staff looks like they mean business and are backing it up with action...not just words. Pretty pumped so far. Looks like a really solid hire...at least from the energy, and recruiting standpoints. Here's hoping the "coach 'em up" abilities fall in right along these same lines. -
Great...but just what in the heck does a "defensive quality control coach" do? What quality his he going to try to control? Seriously...what do these guys do? Looks like an entry level job for an aspiring coach. Anyone have any specifics on what these guys actually do?

Hey, check out the GoFundMe site. We had another very generous donation from a Mean Green Club and Alumni Association member just today! We are inching ever so close to our goal. The site reflects in excess of $2500.00 raised to date. With just a few more folks stepping up to help....even at the $5, $10 or $25 level, we will reach our goal soon. Check out the site and see where we stand. Thanks so much for the support to date. You folks are the best...simply the best!ii

Probably true. Hey, have sent you a few PM's about the game. I know we chatted in the Green Room a few week ago, but I am just wanting to confirm if you will be returning for another year to play in this charity event. We now have X coaches for both teams, but do need a few more players. I think you have played in pretty much all of them. Let's not break that string now! What say you Lt.?

Greendylan is in and it is looking like That_Guy_Arlo will be back with us again as well. Thanks to both of these returnees!
-
The fact that we are even on this kid's list is a plus. Shows UNT is stepping up its game in recruiting and some higher rated and local kids are beginning to listen. Will keep al fingers and toes crossed. This is a very good sign that good things are happening at UNT.
-
Excellent...will love to have you! Heckling is not only allowed but encouraged. I see you at the basketball games...you are pretty good at it! Well, I am definitely hopeful that all three will return to play again this year. I have sent all of them recent PM's checking to see if they are available to play again this year. Keeping fingers crossed.

UPDATES: Current list of players: Thor, Andrew, Rob M., GMG24, smoothfresh, UNTFan23, UNT90, unttau, Vince, Harry, Paul and curtisdaa, Ben Gooding. Ok, we can definitely add more players. In fact, we need more players. SIGN-UP DEADLINE is FRIDAY, FEB. 5th. The day before our live player draft at Eastside in Denton that will start at noon. I have a free general admission ticket for up to thirty people for the men's basketball game against La Tech that will tip off in the Super-pit at 3pm following our draft at Eastside. So, come to the draft...support our sponsors and get a ticket to the men's game. Not a bad deal at all, right? Some more good news...as I mentioned in the GoFundMe thread...you helped raise right at $5000 that was distributed to the Cheer Team student-athletes this last year! That is the most we have been able to generate so far in our first five years of this event. YOU made this happen! You folks are fantastic! So, what do we need? Players, of course, a referee or two, donations to the GoFundMe site, silent auction donations....any or all. If you can help in any manner, just post here or send me a PM. Your support is both greatly appreciated and greatly needed.

Bit of an update and some added info. I just found out yesterday that right at $5,000 in scholarship funds were distributed to the Cheer Team members after out last event. The vast majority of those funds came right from our event! While that isn't a lot compared to football and basketball scholarship funds, it is more than ever received by these student-athletes! YOU folks did this...you made it happen. Your generosity and support has made a difference for these athletes. You should be proud of your efforts, and understand that you did this! Thank you so much. Now, we are in year six...has it really been six years? Our goal this year is a net of $5000.00 for the fund. We are well on our way, but we do need additional help. Our GoFundMe site has been a bit stagnant as of late and could use a little jump start. Remember, you can pay your player fees through the GoFundMe site as well. The fee this year is $30.00. Any size donation will help and would be greatly appreciated. A donation of $5.00 or $10.00 is great....and, if you wish the donation can be made as "anonymous". Just in case you feel the need to do so anonymously. If anyone has any questions...just post them here or send me a PM. We do need players! Game is Sat., Feb. 27th. We will have a LIVE player draft this year at Eastside here in Denton...our title sponsor on Sat., Feb. 6th. The draft will start at noon, and end in time for everyone to head over to the Super Pit for the 3pm tip-off of the men's game against La Tech. participants attending the live draft...please do to help support our generous sponsors....will be provided a free general admission ticket to the game. So, come to the live draft party, have a beer or two to support our sponsors...kibbitz our coaches as they select there players, get a free general admission ticket to the game...what's not to like, right? Save these dates on your calendars now...everyone welcome to attend the game and the draft party free of charge...of course!

I'll some new info soon, but as if this point....southsideguy has not indicated that he will be playing. Still lots of time for sign-ups, but we do need more players.
-
Hey, I will buy your basketball club seats.

Even with all the drama surrounding this kid, anyone else think he would look really good in Mean Green green? Reports are that his grades are in order, but he just had a difficult time handling all the negative press about the NCAA sanctions, his high school grade scandal, etc.. So, Coach Evans....here is a chance for you to go get one of the area's most talented players and mentor him through these "troubled waters". What do you think? Heck, UNT seems to be getting some great recruiting news in football and women's basketball these days. Maybe that can spill over into the men's basketball world as well.
-
Thank you.
-
Got him down. Many thanks.
-
Absolutely! Thank you. I just need a name and a t-shirt size for him. Appreciate you.
-
May the trash talk begin! Great stuff, but what if Vince ends up on Andrew's team? Speaking of that....folks we could use some more players. Time is drawing closer, so schedules should be firming up for folks. Check your schedules folks....this is a fun game and really does help support some great student-athletes. Either post here or send me a PM if interested in playing, volunteering, donating to the cause or providing a silent auction item. We definitely could use your support.

OK, Yes, I have been out of town over the holidays, but did try to keep up with the Mean Green as best as I could. But, did I miss the official announcement of the hiring of Mike Ekeler as the new Mean Green defensive coordinator? I keep reading Vito's articles talking about coaching hires and Ekeler is always mentioned as the DC. Has there been any official announcement from either Coach Littrell or the athletic department regarding this hire? That question being asked, I do like the way the new coaching staff is shaping up under Coach Littrell. Lots of experience at the D1 level and lots of Texas ties. That should work well in UNT's favor on the recruiting trail. When Coach Littrell says things like "I know that is important here" and "My staff will know Texas high school football and we will be relentless on the recruiting trail" my heart bleeds Mean Green green even more. I would like to believe that local and state-wide HS coaches will begin to see UNT coaches on their doorsteps much more often than in the past and that HS head coaches and assistants will be on a first name basis with several UNT coaches.

What a tragic event. Very sad to see this news, and I send my prayers out to the family and friends of this young lady. Lost so very young with her future in front of her. And, lost in such a violent and tragic way. So sad. I hope those responsible are found by the authorities soon and that they face the Justice they so rightly deserve.

Nice way to open conference play...and on the road as well. The "youngsters"... Like Brice may well have "grown up a bit" in this game...11 boards by Brice is really good to see. This kid loves to play, you can see it in his face and expressions during every game, and as he matures into Division 1 BB he is going to be fun to watch. Deckie Brown seems to be stepping it up as well. Jeremy Combs hitting both those late free throws was huge. At the women's game yesterday, after the women missed a couple of free throws in a row, one fan sitting by me yelled "you ladies learning to shoot free throws from the men"...or something like that...pretty funny, and then Jeremy, who has been struggling at the line this season from game to game, it's a couple of big ones late to help seal the road win for the Mean Green. Great to see this team come out of the lockeroom after half-time and mount this comeback win. Now, do I expect this team to go into El Paso and do the same in front of most likely a very large home crowd? Nope, but at least they have shown some road toughness and the "want to" to mount such a comeback effort. UTEP is good and they are extra tough at home. But, it is basketball and anything can happen...like the Okie State ladies taking down Baylor recently...or the Mean Green men coming back from 15 down at half on the road to beat The Roadrunners. Nice job guys! See you at home! Beat UTEP!

No I didn't.
