Wow! We are making Marshall look like the San Antonio Spurs! That was a tough half to watch. Here's hoping for a different second half.
-
The Mean Green women handed Marshall it's first home loss of the year 71-63 (I believe that was the final). Great win for Jalie and Company. These ladies are playing some great basketball. Great job ladies!
-
But, in this case...Jalie brought her here. Sure wanted to see what she could do with Jalie and the Mean Green.
-
Seems odd to me given her prior experience with Jalie at Texas. Couple of random thoughts on this; 1. Perhaps her knee wasn't responding to treatment as well as expected and LaLa just decided to take a chance, 2. Perhaps Jalie had set some goals for her that she was not able to meet, 3. Any Louisiana ties?, 4. Perhaps she saw the competition for playing time awaiting her and decided to head elsewhere...both returning players and perhaps new commits we don't know much about as yet, 5. Perhaps it is...I have no clue why? This is likely the answer as I don't know...just speculating. 6. Anyone going to blame Jalie for running players off? Not me! Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing her play next year. No hard feelings...here's hoping she finds what she is looking for at LaLa.

June Jones, the former SMU head coach who went 36-43 at SMU, is back in coaching. After applying for the Hawaii head coaching job and not getting it, he has been hired as the offensive coordinator at Kapolei High School in Hawaii. Just shows how much that guy wants to stay in Hawaii I guess. I am guessing that he really doesn't need the money. Just think...coaching without the recruiting and headaches of the head coach....or will there be no recruiting with June around? Just thought this announcement was interesting.

unt88 is in for this year's game! Thor will be excited! Will they get drafted to the same team? Come to the LIVE draft party at noon on Feb. 6th at Eastside Social Club (it is on Oak Street near the Square).
-
Not good news. Guy was a good recruiter. I wish him luck...always liked the guy...but I wish his luck was still with the Mean Green. Here's our new HC and DC already have someone in mind.
-
Send him a PM and let me know...or chat with him at the live player draft about it. I am fine with whatever you two coaches decide. Ha! Ha! General admission I believe is the upper level. But...lots of seats available in the lower level as well...just saying.

That_Guy_Arlo is back for another year! Welcome aboard. Happy to have you back!
-
Excellent...thanks.

Just a public service announcement for those interested..... The basketball radio show resumes tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 11th at NOON at Rudy's BBQ off I-35 in Denton. I assume the format will be the same as last year and we will get to hear from both Coach Benford and Coach Mitchell. If so, come be part of Jalie's first radio show. Hope to see several of the "regulars" there along with a good many new faces. Come support the Mean Green men and women teams as they move into the challenges of conference play!
-
But, no announcement as to where. Come on...you know UNT is the best place! Ingrown toenail hopefully!
-
Good post. Agree with everything you said. In fact, I ran into another frequent GMG.Com poster, and he said pretty much the same thing you did in your second paragraph. In fact, we both agreed that the substitution patterns are much much different than in Benford's first couple of years.
-
I am going to be twisting his arm a bit in an attempt to see if I can coax him in to playing again this year...little know fact....he was also part of the UNT Cheer Team during his days at UNT.
-
Agree...and soccer, and golf and volleyball, and swimming/diving, and cross country, and of late women's basketball.

Wow...another nice donation...this time from former Mean Green footballer unt88. We are so close now...I believe it is $295 from goal. I was told another donation will be made soon, so, perhaps by the end of this next week we can see the goal made. Now, once it is made...we certainly do not want to stop there! Our overall goal for the event this year is a net of $5000 for the Cheer Team Scholarship Fund. We have the game registration fees, the silent auction, our concession stand sales, our half-court 50/50 shot contest, etc. to go. I have full faith and confidence that we will make it. Why? YOU...that's why. You, make it happen. Thanks so very much.

Were you at the game? Was looking for you in Green Room before the game and at half in the arena.

I just have to give a shout out to a bunch of great Mean Green folks I do not know, but we're very kind and helpful to me after the game today. First, fun game...I think Rice's last lead was at the 5-4 point in the first few minutes. Katenda had a great game...several nice dunks...some excellent hustle...a decent...decent...free throw shooting game for the good guys...half-way decent crowd with a few students trickling back, and a win for the Mean Green! All nice in itself, but what went on after the game is my point here...the greatness of the Mean Green family. Well, my wife and I get to our car and I notice I do not have my cell phone. It was in my lap and I guess I dropped it or kicked it somewhere as we stood up to leave. So, I run back in to the Super Pit in the hope that I might find it. A group of fans notice me looking for something and ask if they could help. I explain and one lady asks if I have the "Find my Phone" app on my phone...well, yes I do. She says...here take my phone and let's find that thing! Long story short, but after about 10-12 minutes of looking...several random folks have now joined the search...the app's pinging and direction finding works and my phone is located. How it got where it did I will never know, but the point is...a bunch of Mean Green fans hung around to help a fellow Mean Greener find a lost phone. Obviously, I thanked these folks profusely and returned the phone used to help find mine to its owner. I realize this is no big deal...a lost phone...in the whole scheme of things, but I just wanted to give a shout out to these very kind Mean Green people who I did not know and who did not know me who took their time and hung around after the game to help me locate my phone. Yes, folks...Mean Green people are the greatest! Thank you kind people.

Assume you noticed that he got that intentional foul call he has been talking about, right? Came at a really good time too for the Mean Green. Honest question...why is it "disgusting"? I see high school, college and pro coaches doing it on a consistent basis. In fact, I wish Jalie would do it a bit more.
-
Agree that you never know, but article in today's paper mentioned that our three centers are used in "situational" circumstances. Seems to depend upon who we are playing and their style of play as much as how one of the big guys performed in the last game or so. But, today we saw a lot of Ketunda...big game for him...monster dunk...and Brice, but mostly Katenda. Do not recall seeing Fuller in the game. Anyone know if he is hurt?
-
By the way, chances are better than even that we might have a guest referee for the game this year. A Mean Greener of some note who will be known by more than a few in attendance. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh....it is a secret! Keep your fingers crossed that everything works out for our mystery "guest". And, no, I do not know who it is at this point....I just know the shirt size...XL.
-
Just added our second referee for the game.....the one, the only, the great MATT WALSH! Many remember Matt from his student manager days with the men's basketball team and his recent grad experience working in the Athletic Dept.. For those who don't know, Matt now works in the Ticket Office of the Texas Rangers. Hint to Athletic Dept.....get Matt back here to run the UNT Ticket Office! If anyone is looking for Ranger tickets this year...please call a great Member of the Mean Green Nation for help. Matt can be reached at either 817-273-5864 or mwalsh@texasrangers.com. He will definitely take care of you! And, Matt is donating two lower bowl tickets to a Ranger Game this year for our silent auction. Thank you, Matt for being one of our refs, for making a donation to the silent auction and for being a great member of the Mean Green Nation! Need/want Ranger tickets? Get with Matt. Help out a fellow Mean Green grad...he will help you as well.

After another generous donation of $100, we are now just $395 short of our GoFundMe goal of $3000.00! Inching ever so closer to the goal. Many many thanks! This donation was made "annomously", so I cannot thank that person by name here, but, as the fund administrator, I know who it is and have definitely thanked them. We have also added a few players in the last day or so: Emmitt01, Ben Gooding, That_Guy_Arlo and Greendyln will be joining us on the court this time. Most for repeat performances. Thanks...cannot do this without you. STILL need a few more players...would like to have at least ten per team so players have time to sub out and rest a bit. So, come on folks...male or female...we need you. Come out on Feb. 27th and join the fun. It is fun...ask any of our returning players.

Sent you a PM about the Cheer Team scholarship game.
