DENTON TAPS AND CAPS
KRAM1 replied to THOR's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Drove by it today...didn't have time to stop, but definitely will. Now that Taps and Capps and the Bearded Monk are both open, I have a couple of great places to fill my growler...and Taps and Caps has a pizza place right next door. Way cool. -

St. Patrick's Day Lower Greenville - Saturday March 19th
KRAM1 replied to NTAlum09's topic in Mean Green Football
Ha! You could be right...with the amount of beer consumed many of those witnessing the parade might think it was UNT90 in drag.. What is happening? Is there a Denton St. Patty's Day event? If so, I have completely missed it. Hard to take over something that doesn't exist in the first place. One could create it perhaps, but not take it over because "it" doesn't exist. I will be happy to send him your love. -
Silver...check your PM's...let me know what you think and let me know if something works.

St. Patrick's Day Lower Greenville - Saturday March 19th
KRAM1 replied to NTAlum09's topic in Mean Green Football
I mentioned this to Dr. Smatresk in the first one on one I had with him shortly after his arrival at UNT. His response at that time was "Dallas"? "We should OWN Denton on St. Patrick's Day"! Would be pretty cool to create a Mean Green St. Patty's Day event in Denton...a big one. This Greenville Ave parade thing comes up here every year. I looked into this and talked to a lot of folks...both with the parade, float design and builders, logistics folks, GoMeanGreen.Com folks, Athletic Dept. folks, Aluni folks, Student Affairs folks, President, etc. Unless you want to build your own float...money and lots and lots of volunteers....drive it to the parade staging area....drive it in the parade and then back to wherever it was constructed, it is going to cost you a bunch of money and time to have professionals do it. I understand other schools do it, and how cool it would be to have UNT represented, but what I found from my research was that there were lots of folks willing to "let someone else do it and pay for it" and very very few willing to actually commit dollars and time to it. If you do it, it better be a quality, well designed and well constructed float with lots of give away items for the crowd.....thus says the professional float folks I talked with on several occasions...anything less will open you up to social media scorn in the worst of ways. So, lots of time and money...or a lot more money , but a lot less time. The folks doing this would need to make that call. As for me, I am not sure that it is worth the time, effort and money. Folks who want this done have not in the past been willing to step up and fund it, volunteer to work, etc. It seems it is a great idea as long as someone else funds it and/or does all the work. I have floated the idea to a couple of areas at UNT that could be interested. Neither at this time have the resources or the personnel to devote to such a project. You don't just show up in a pick up truck with Scrappy in the back if you want to be successful in this arena. Would be great if UNT had a float, but is this the best use of the dollars and manpower needed to pull it off? Iffy at best in my opinion. But, if someone wants to head this and fund it, count on me for a lot of volunteer hours of work. -
You follow DT's girlfriend....now wife on Twitter?

Waiting for someone to step up and take it over...you game? Oh wait...

UNTFan23 is correct...this is a stand alone event. Two reasons...a meet and greet and a recruiting update. Should be fun.
-
Just announced...Meet and Greet with Coach Littrell and his staff on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd at Apogee in the HUB Club from 5-7 pm. This is a free event open to all. Appetizers will be served and there will be a cash bar. There will be a brief program discussing recruiting and the 2016 UNT recruiting class, but mainly it will be a meet & greet with Coach Littrell and his new coaching staff. Make plans now to attend if you can...and bring a friend.

I have no comment on that Ticketmaster site thing...other than to say that it is much harder to use than it should be. Now that being said...anyone having challenges with MGC renewals and tickets...CALL Mike Smith with the Mean Green Club at 940-565-3528. He will definitely take care of you. No, shouldn't have to make a call, but until this gets sorted out, don't let the frustration boil over...call Mike Smith...940-565-3528.

I'm thinking it has more to do with the kid being able to say he is a power conference player in the Big XII. That and the fact that he is from the area and his position coach moved to Tech. We will never know how he would have panned out at UNT, but I never got the idea that he really wanted to be here in the first place. Good luck to the young man. It is a multi-thousand dollar risk on his part. I hope it works out for him.

MGB: WKU forward talks about confrontation with Combs
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Never too good an idea to start talking before the outcome is determined. Really, never a good idea to talk trash before, during or after a game. Just play the game...and as one coach once said, "act like you have been there before"... Or something like that. Big talk has a way of coming back to bite the talker in the rear end. Now...that doesn't go for the Cheer Scholarship game...trash talk is not only allowed...it is encouraged. -
@GMG24....I know Brandon. I understood. I was just trying to have some fun with you. Missed the mark for humor it appears. No worries,I got your point the first time.
-
How about White-Pittman? Didn't he foul out with something like 1point....after missing four straight free throws! Bandage on hand or not...that is not good.
-
Free throws. Hit 'Em UNT wins this game. UNT didn't...less than 60% from the line. UNT lost. End of story. AGAIN!

OK, I get it ...it is hard and it should not be for high school coaches to come to UNT games for FREE. If I were getting free tickets I would sure not want to be at all inconvenienced in figuring out how to get them. Making free stuff hard to get just sucks! Yes, that was tongue firmly planted in cheek because I get this...we should make this stuff easy if we want to develop and maintain good relations with high school coaches. This, indeed, should be a matter of interest and it should be addressed promptly. But, it is sort if numerous seeing folks complain a bit about getting free tickets. It may not be a crumpled $100 bill, but it is at least a ten spot in "funniness". Not don't go all ballistic on me here...this is sort of ironic and funny if you think about it a bit, and I do get it that it is a problem that needs to be addressed. Just having some Saturday afternoon fun before heading to the UNT game with purchased tickets. Edit:. I see a bit of levity is no longer welcome in these days of angst and negativity on GMG.Com. Sigh...it used to be that at least some folks had a sense of humor...or at least irony. I thought coaches had a sense of humor. My bad.

Interesting New Helmet Design from Vicis
KRAM1 replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
Probably not. But, would seem it would release the school from liability related to concussions and would place the family squarely in the crosshairs for increased medical risk and liability lawsuits. I am no lawyer, but that is my guess. Back in my day....long ago and in a far away Galaxy, when I was still on the JV team at Bryan Adams in Dallas, I bought and installed my own cage face mask as they were just coming out, the school was not buying them as yet, and I was getting tired of playing linebacker, tight end and deep snapper with a single bar face mask. Yep...took my helmet home, drilled holes in the thing and installed the new cage mask. Darn heavy it was, but sure was "super cool" and it worked!- 32 replies

4-0 in conference. Beating opponents by an average of 18 points per game.
-
Marshall is good....they are beating opponents by an average of 18 points. However, this beat down was just that...a beat down. UNT was never in the game...and they appeared to be just going through the numbers. First game I have left early in a long long time...like never before. We'll be back Saturday....hoping to see the Mean Green play with some heart and get back on track. I am thinking they just might. Fingers crossed.
