Don't forget Cobi Jones who played for the Sky Blues (Coventry City) back when they were in the Premier League. -

Annnnnnd I am not UNT. Which brings us back to 9 & 10. Just expressing my opinion...just like you. If you think you have been called a bad fan by anyone that is your right and your understanding of the situation. Everyone sees and reads things the way they choose. I find people who look for something bad or negative usually find it. Something to do with personality and outlook I suspose. -

You forgot number 9 & 10.... 9) But we are great at bitching about everything 10) And as fans we are even better at coming up with excuses as to why we won't support the program. You are mistaken. -

Major European league games and Premier League games are no longer only telecast at such early hours. You can watch Premier League games at reasonable hours each weekend as a matter of course these days. -

Yep...and I would say the "usual suspects" are very proud of themselves for creating such an environment here on GMG.Com. We have not only lost a number of previously solid posters for this site, but ticket buyers and donors as well due to their efforts. They are doing to many exactly what they say the AD has done to them. I am sure they must be very proud of themselves. Doing all one can to reduce ticket sales and donations is a super way to help the program., right? But, of course, they see it as their mission in life to point out only the negative, rag on those who try to support the program and make as many as possible join their sad sack cause. Never once realizing that they have become a major part of the problem and not the solution. Only at North Texas I guess. PM me if you really want to know. I am tired of trying to explain openly here on the site as it is never received well. PM me and I would be happy to explain why we cannot renew our Club Seats at this point. But, I sort of think you already know the reason. But, I can and would be happy to help explain since I have spoken to folks several times about this issue. I don't mind at all picking up a phone or asking in person when I have questions and did so immediately upon discovering I could not renew my tickets as yet. I just upgraded my Mean Green Club membership and made a simple call for clearification. Happy to share with you what I have been told. -
If anyone still needs any proof of soccer's arrival as a mainstream sport in the U.S. Need look no further than today's TV listings where NBC Sports is carrying a three (3) hour presentation entitled "Premier League Transfer Deadline Day Show". There was a day not that long ago when you could not even find a regular league match on TV. Now I can watch pretty much all the major European Leagues on TV, MLS and many Mexican and Latin American games. But, this three hour. "Transfer Day" presentation on TV pretty much screams soccer's arrival on the main sports stage. Might be interesting to see what the viewership ratings are for the show. Is that even possible?

Glad I could help. That's all I was trying to do.

Really a stretch here...where did I say it was his responsibility? I suggested what I thought might be possibilities. I guess even trying to help is a reason for you spin what someone else says to fit your ever so negative agenda. You are really a barrel of joy these days, aren't you? I am beginning to think you might need professional help. It just isn't the end of the world you know. If this stuff clouds your entire life in such negativity you might just want to think about your priorities a bit. Maybe take a break and figure out what is really important in your life. Right now, you seem to just be beating a dead horse over and over in a vain attempt for attention. With you it is never enough. I am sorry you have made the decision to see everything in such a negative perspective. I hope you can find something you can be positive about again one of these days. Sorry STIX...just trying to help. My bad I guess. And, you do know about the spring game, right? April 23rd at 2pm. Again, sorry...just trying to help.

I have no clue. I saw multiple notices of it on Facebook, Twitter, Mean Green Club emails, Alumni email, etc.. I am sorry you did not know about it. All I could suggest now is to make sure your contact info is updated with both the Alumni Association and the Mean Green Club. If you are on Facebook make sure you are "friends" with both the Mean Green Club and the Alumni Association, and if you are on Twitter, be sure and follow the Mean Green Club, UNT Advancement and the Alumni Association. Social media seems to the "way" communication is going these days in so many areas of our lives. So much so that this old dog had to sign up with Twitter recently just to be able to stay in the loop with several areas of my life. Had tried in vain to ignore both Facebook and Twitter for years, but alas I had to "get with it" if I did not want to miss stuff that was important to me. I would bet I received at least 20-30 tweets and re-tweets about this vey event in Houston.

DRC: UNT to honor 1986 women's NCAA tourney team today
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We had a really nice crowd at this game...over 1700 I believe. Sadly, a friend of mine mentioned it looked like about what we draw for the men's games these days. It was great to welcome back Judy Nelson and several of her NCAA team members in the MGC Green Room before the game and then to see them honored on court at half-time. You could tell that they were all very much enjoying the experience. Since I recalled seeing them all play for UNT, it was a reminder for me how good that team was and the great job Coach Nelson did in blending a bunch of returning players with several new JUCO players she brought in to " right the ship" as they say. No small coaching feat in sitting prior years starters in favor of the newly recruited JUCO's and yet still getting the team to bond and play together for the greater good. Then, we were treated to another battle against Rice. Five over times this season decided the winner in our two games with Rice. Unfortunately, Rice won both. They better enjoy it this year becasuse next year these ladies will return the favor. There is absolutely ZERO ... Nil ... NO quit in this team. They were pretty much out of it at the end of regulation, but were able to dig deep and tie the game just before time expired. With a dwindling bench...not really adequate to begin with...Coach Mitchell and the team battled to a draw in the first overtime, but a lack of depth pretty much sealed the deal in the second overtime. What was really great was to see our new walk-on, Orianna Shillow, freshman guard out of Round Rock, get the start. I was asking..."who the heck is that and where has she been all season"? It seems this young lady can play! Anyway, I am sure Jalie and Co. Are not happy with the loss, but, man, they gave it what they had. Better things are definitely ahead for Jalie and Company. Even now, really ejoyable games to watch. -
I decided to put this here since it really isn't Mean Green Basketball related, but I thought it was interesting how the Big XII, who used to be a dominate football conference, is actually becoming a basketball conference. I realize this has been coming on for some time now, but yesterday's dismantling if the SEC was a big deal for Big XII basketball and future recruiting...much like the SEC's football dominance of late. The Big XII won seven of the ten match ups I believe. The Big XII managed Oklahoma over LSU 77-75 , Oklahoma State over Auburn 74-63, Kansas over Kentucky 90-84, Baylor over Georgia 83-70, TCU over Tennessee 75-63, Texas over Vanderbilt 72-58 and Kansas State over Mississippi 69-64. The SEC managed Texas A&M over Iowa State 72-62, Florida over West Virginia 88-71 and Arjansas over Texas Tech 75-68 in OT. Now that is one conference to talking dominating the other! Hard for me to see the Big XII as a dominate basketball power conference, but in terms of this plastering of the SEC I guess I will have to begin believing. I realize many of these Big XII schools have storied basketball histories, but I have just always seen the Big XII as a football conference. I wonder if the SEC will want to try this challenge again in coming seasons? I am pretty sure the Big XII would be up for another go.

Got a little more clarity on the format for the event today at the women's game. Coach Littrell will be making some remarks about the recruiting class, and there should be some video clips of our signees. But, it will not focus entirely on recruiting as it has in the past. Coach Littrell really wants to chat with supporters and get some opportunity to meet and greet. I believe that most, if not all the coaches will be on hand. Should be a nice event.

Well...sorry to hear that. Why not come on and participate in another way...can always use volunteers....you would enjoy the live draft event as well...beer involved you know. I hope we see you at one or both of the events....you could still try the half court shot thing! Could still use your support if you are able.

OK, well, that would be a big commute, but thought I would ask. Have fun at your event there in Tinsel Town. Be safe, and hopefully, you will not have to start another dumpster fire after this one...one can hope, right?

Just a reminder that we will hold our Cheer Scholarship game LIVE DRAFT event SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6th beginning at NOON at EAST SIDE DENTON. East Side is one of our title sponsors along with its sister establishment Oak Street Draft House, so I hope we can have a nice turnout in support of both the player draft and the sponsors. We will first flip a coin to see which team coach gets fist pick in this year's draft, then away we will go. I will be moderating the draft and both coaches, Harry and Andrew have indicated that they will attend. If either coach is unable to attend, I will draft for that team. I will have thirty (30) tickets available for the 3pm men's basketball game against LA Tech to give away to those attending the draft event on a first come first served basis. So, come have some fun kibitzing the coaches and trash talking other team members as we select our teams for this 76th annual event. Buy a beer or two in support of our sponsors as well. If you have not been to East Side, this is a great opportunity to check this place out while having some fun with fellow members of the great Mean Green Nation. REMEMBER...the deadline to sign up to play in the game is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5th. At this time the following have signed up to play: THOR, Andrew, Rob McKinney, GMG24, smoothfresh, UNTFan23, UNT90, unttau, Vince, Harry, Paul, curtisdda, Ben Gooding, greendylan, That_Guy_Arlo, Emmitt01, unt88, meangreencoach2, Jay Varner, Brian Baumgarner, David Ray and Trent Endres. That is 22 players...eleven per team...so, we definitely have room for more players. As is usually the case, something comes up at the last minute to keep some who wanted to play from doing so. So, if you are interested...just let me know. Registration fee is $30.00. You can pay the fee through our GoFundMe site at http://gofundme.com/9parj2nk, or you can pay during the live draft event or on game day....CASH or CHECK payable to UNT Athletics, with Cheer Scholarship on the memo line...please and thank you. Also...we have some great items already for the silent auction such as Texas Ranger Tickets, Jay Novacek autographed football, Rudy's Gift cards, Disney gift cards, Scrappy golf driver headcover, Abner Haynes autographed GMG.Com Bowl t-shirt, Protected by Mean Green yard signs, Classic Hayden Fry era North Texas State University Christmas ornaments with the Flying Worm, North Texas battle flag, UNT #23 basketball jersey, UNT caps, and lots of surprise items yet to come. So, even if you are not playing...come to the game on Feb. 27th at the UNT Volleyball gym (1 pm tip-off) and enjoy the fun, buy a concession item or two or three and bid on some great silent auction items. Hope to see you first at the live draft party on the 6th at East Side at noon....the draft party is open to ALL...players, families, friends, kibitzers, trash talkers...come have some fun. If you can't make the game on the 23rd, this is your chance to be part of this event and to show your support for the UNT Cheer team members. We will even accept any donations that anyone would like to make and collect any silent auction items folks would like to donate. See you there...it's going to be fun!

MGB breaking news -- UNT lands high school QB
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This kid can play. All-state in OK and player if the year as a junior. I get the size thing, but how big do you have to be to run a spread offense that often relies on quick short passes to guys who can eat up yards after the catch? I am guessing that at 5' 11" he is still tall enough to find a downfield receiver and as a college freshman, I am guessing that this kid is not through growing. Good get! Needed a HS QB...looks like a quality get!- 136 replies

Great idea. Would love to see this happen. Certainly the idea has been around awhile, but now might just be the time for it to actually happen. Why not? Team and program fortunes ebb and flow. We may be down now and SMU may be up, but things change over time. He prospects for this being a big deal localywithin the metroplex are very good. Why not put differences and egos aside and get this going? What a great weekend that would be for local basketball fans.
