  1. THIS right here...we are our own worst enemy within the Metroplex at times for the way we talk about our own program...in person, on GoMeanGreen.Com and yes, around that water cooler at work. OH...and before anyone says otherwise...I am NOT blaming the fans. I am mentioning only that, as fans and supporters of UNT, we could do a better and more positive job of "talking up" the program. PERIOD!
  2. So...could we sort of...kinda...throw Blake English in with these guys as we might finally see him next season? I know, I know...not official...but still a new player to bolster this team next season. Edit: Ha! Ha! Sorry...that would be Bryce English. My bad...but can we? Sort of?
  3. Ahem.....right back at ya! And, of course, you didn't answer the question...rarely do. You think the Littrell hire was a bad hire or not simply because Wren Baker didn't make it? Let me make it really simple for you....Do you think the Seth Littrell hire was a good one or not?
  4. "Saddled with"? These guys are both Okies and seem to be working extremely well together. Could it be even remotely possible in your mind that Wren is very happy with Seth Littrell and is more than pleased with his selection even though Seth was hired prior to his arrival? Is that even a remote possibility for you? So, you are saying the Littrell hire was a bad one just because it was a done before Wren got here? Because in your mind it was a "bad management decision"? The early hire makes the Littrell hire a bad one? Do I have this correct according to you?
  5. Very true...Denton has been home since 1965. Always been a "day late and a dollar short" when it comes to this stuff, but the city leaders seem to like it that way. What else could explain it?
  6. This would be really good news! Would also help the class ranking move up a position or two I would think...well, maybe not two, but.....a good get for certain for the Mean Green!
  7. Hmmmmmm...I attend UNT soccer games and have attended several college golf matches. But, I definitely see your point.
  8. And, I have watched, in person at the Pit and/or Super Pit, games coached by 10 of the 13 coaches listed. Yikes, that is a lot of coaches and a lot of games. Guessing I will be on Coach 11 of 14 next season.
  9. Hopefully, there will be a positive surprise or two...or three! Certainly hope so, but this report from Vito is not overly encouraging. Surprises on the positive side very welcome!
  10. Norfolk and the surrounding area is quite diverse and interesting. ODU sits just on the edge of downtown Norfolk. The arena....called the Ted....is nice. Does not seat as many as the Super Pit, but does have what appears to be suites and Club type seating. Norfolk/Portsmouth seems to be in need of a good bit of "renewal". It sits right on the Chesapeake and is home to a large Naval Base and Naval hospital, and large ship repair facilities operated by General Dynamics. Our son and daughter-in-law live in the Norfolk suburb of Chesapeake...better schools, etc. But, in traffic can be an hour from their work site in Portsmouth. Norfolk definitely enjoys all four seasons. And, winters can be both wet and cold, but fall colors are beautiful. Lots if good seafood in and around the area. And, Virginia Beach is not far away for shopping as shopping is not all that great in Norfolk. As far as game day...nothing special in regard to the women's game we attended. Parking was, however, free and located just across the street from the arena in a multi-story garage. ODU fans were friendly enough and a couple even thanked us for coming. Since son and daughter-in-law are both Navy M.D.'s with specialities there are only two Naval hospitals large enough for them...San Diego or Portsmouth/Norfolk. They were stationed in San Diego before Norfolk. San Diego is nicer for sure, but also more expensive. The home they live in here...would be selling for well over $1,000,000 in San Diego and over $2,000,000 on Coronado Island. About 1/3 the cost here for housing, so, yep, less costly in Virginia.
  11. And...before anyone asks...NO Wren Baker did not hire Seth Littrell.
  12. Happening today. Happens about every three years for basketball seats at ODU and about every four years for football. Article I read was in today's Norfolk paper talking about NOW. They even announced it at the UNT-ODU women's BB game I attended with the family here in Norfolk last night. So...don't know about the "old news", but it is happening now at ODU.
  13. From today's The Virginia-Pilot...Pilotonline.com...page 1 of Sports Sunday section...1/29/17 ODU football will soon reassign thousands of seats NORFOLK This spring, as Old Dominion University undertakes the painful process of reassigning most of the 14,134 seats purchased through football season tickets, a free-for-all of sorts has ensued. As the team won 38 of its first 48 games and became the nation's winningest startup program, the demand for tickets skyrocketed. Foreman Field's 20,088 seats have been filled for all 29 home games, and the season-ticket waiting list more than doubled in the last year to 4,500. Most on the list were told it would be years, perhaps not until the stadium is expanded, before they would get tickets. Not anymore. Those on the waiting list probably will be able to purchase tickets for 2013 - if they contribute enough to the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation, the school's athletic fundraising arm. Members will receive priority over those who don't join the foundation, officials said. The process could leave some who have held season tickets all four years - but who don't contribute to the foundation - without seats, officials say. Nearly 2,800 of the season tickets are held by those who don't contribute. Monday is the deadline for fans to pay for season tickets or make down payments, and to donate to the foundation. Membership requires a minimum donation of $100. Season tickets are $163 apiece. Buyers will select their seats based on a point system and seven criteria, including how long they've owned season tickets, how many they purchase and how much they contribute to the foundation. The more points, the earlier your appointment to pick your seats.
  14. Just proved the point for the umpteenth time. At least you are consistent. Got to hand it to you for that. it's OK. We know.
  15. Gee...a playwrite as well. Who knew? I am constantly amazed that with your ability to tell everyone else what they should do, what their opinion should be and your total disdain for any opposing view or opinion on anything whatsoever, that some university has not snapped you up to be their AD. To have such passion to be the only possible opinion that matters should have been noticed by some university by now. You must be a complete joy to work with on any sort of project. If Wren only had your insight.
  16. Opinion....going to have to disagree with yours. You and everyone else were told how this would be handled. They did not say after the season "unless this or that happens". They said after the season. The season is winding down...count the games left and come or don't come.
  17. I really don't understand all this angst.....and, I am speaking in generalities, not at any one post or poster. Wren Baker told everyone when he would evaluate Coach Benford and that was after the end of the season. So far, in things he has done since arriving, he has shown to be a man of his word. So, it looks like the evaluation will come at the end of the season. Is what it is no matter how one feels pro or con. Both Wren Baker and our new COO, Jared Moseley, are "basketball guys". They have experience and know the game and love the game. I really think they will evaluate the season and the previous ones after the season concludes. Whatever happens at that point will be up to the parties involved and will be, in the opinion of the said parties involved, in the best interest of the program at UNT. We can relax and see how this pans out. In the meantime, it would probably be a nice gesture to support the players and coaches. No one likes to lose, no one gets used to losing and no one tries to create a losing program. Tough for the Mean Green these days, but we can all remember when it was tough to support the football program through its losing period. That seems to have turned around in most people's opinions. The basketball program will as well.
  18. For the first time in a very long time...I agree with you 100% on this JJ thing. ???
  19. Got a signed copy. Good read. Every UNT fan ... and really anyone... should pick up a copy and read this book. It should make you pretty proud of your University, and will, hopefully, stop the misrepresentation of which school actually broke the color barrier. This is a sports book for sure, but it is so much more than a sports book. I have met, know or have heard about the vast majority of the people mentioned from UNT in this book which also makes for an interesting read for me. I recommend that folks pick up a copy.
  20. Grades. Grades matter. Had academic challenges staying eligible for awhile. If your grades say you are ineligible you are ineligible. Whether a player wants to continue to stay in school (if grades were no so bad as to be completely suspended) and work to bring the grades up so he can regain eligibility, that is up to the player. So it goes with this young man. He decided to leave. I wish him well. I will certainly miss seeing him in Mean Green green on Saturdays during the fall.
  21. That, Sir, is a mighty BIG assumption with absolutely ZERO basis in fact.
  22. Fair enough...I have sat through them with you. But, I don't understand giving up and not renewing with a new coach on board. I get that you probably wouldn't renew if Coach Benford were to be retained...that I get. But, if it is Coach Benford you can no longer support, why not renew when a new coach is brought in after the season? Wren has told everyone that the decision will be made AFTER the season...you know that, right?
  23. Glad you like him. Glad he is yours. Glad he has changed his offensive philosophy....because when he was here it was B-O-R-I-N-G football and very offensive to most fans. Like Silver said...you did not have to be at Fouts during a game to know exactly what play was coming and when. It was that BAD! Until he called us all MF'ers I thought he was a pretty nice guy. Took us to bowl games when we lost pretty much every OCC game and then cleaned up within the absolute worst and weakest conference in D1 ball. If he had not changed his philosophy, Memphis would have run him off years ago. Like I said...glad he changed...glad he is yours....glad you like him. I wish him well...he is a very good assistant coach.
  24. Not every team makes the conference tournament this season....looking like it will take six conference wins minimum to make the post-season conference tournament. There are thirteen conference games left. What are the chances? If things don't turn around promptly, the tournament may not include the Mean Green. Here's hoping that turn around happens, and I'll be at the home games supporting the program, but it isn't looking good at this point for the post-season tourney. And, yes, I am speculating on the need for six wins.
  25. Since so many on here have stopped attending men's basketball games at UNT and say it is all because of Benford, I am wondering why those same folks are not showing up for the women's games in support of one of our own...Jalie Mitchell? Many schools really support their teams...men and women. If one isn't a fan of men's basketball at UNT right now, why not show some support for the women? I get the fact that some just do not care for the women's game, and that was definitely me up until a few years ago. I started attending a few and the game sort of grew on me. At UNT, Jalie's teams have really shown some fight, and they just do not seem to give up. They work extremely hard on and off the court to support UNT. Why not come pout and see if supporting the women can help give you the college home basketball fix you might be missing? Today's game tips off at three pm...Green room, for Mean Green Club members, opens at 2pm...and it is $1.00 hot dog day. Cold and messy day outside...why not come to the Super Pit and support UNT basketball?
