Tickets For Kickoff Cookout On Sale Now
KRAM1 replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
Has anyone attended the Kick-off cookout in the past...OR...have we had one? Sorry, just don't know. If we have had one, and you attended, is it worth attending? I am thinking about it so I can pick up my season tickets and enjoy some fun, but was wondering if it was more for the Kiddo's...a family type event...or something for everyone? Just wondering...I am sure I will be there anyway...I got a card that said limited seating...what;s that about? Thanks for the help with this...GO MEAN GREEN! -
I'm thinking we would be lucky to drawan average of 200! Let this thread die...PLEASE! Let's get the stadium going before we worry about adding any sports...P-L-E-A-S-E!

I agree, let's give T J the chance to turn our softball program into a winner...he needs at least two years to get a handle on that...BUT, the diving coach hire does look like a good one indeed. I wonder...will she continue to coach youth team programs? I bet she does...probably makes more money there than being the UNT diving coach. I know youth soccer coaches in select programs make very good money these days...heck, when I was a club president a few years back, we were paying $1,000/month per team for a guy to coach up to four teams...I hear the rate has gone up considerably since then (about 10 years ago for me). If youth club diving coaches get anywhere near that, she will probably keep it up...no problem for me. May lead to better divers for UNT. Looks like another good hire by Rick V. Yep, looks like an upgrade in coaching across the board is underway where it needed to take place.

Folks, lots of Big Time D-1 schools have "voluntary" summer workouts. Funny thing...when I was in high school...we had "voluntary summer workouts" that started in early July (nice and cool, huh?) and kept going right up until "official" start day for workouts. Nothing new here...BUT...is UNT holding such "voluntary" workouts? I'll bet if not, that there are plenty of the players working out in small groups "on their own"...anybody know what the scoop is on this? So, the question is....how serious are we about BIG TIME FOOTBALL? Better yet, how serious are our players about being the best that they can be? Pretty serious, I think...so, my guess is...some workouts of the voluntary sort are going on.....GO MEAN GREEN....buy season tickets and get your "thing" in the seat this fall...and, O.K., be in your seat BEFORE KICK-OFF!

Exciting, Never Say Die, Hard-Hitting Football...an offense where I can't call 60-70% of the plays....A team that's Proud to Wear the Green, and a team that is a TEAM. I know, I know...but, I just want to see some exciting, hard-hitting football again. I THINK WE WILL!

Former Nt Player Earns 2nd Team League Honors
KRAM1 replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
Great to see UNT Exes getting recognition. Well done....maybe the Colorado Crush (Jason Ball) and the Georgia Force will meet in the AFL playoffs this year and we can watch them both play on the same field at the same time. Let's keep our fingerrs crossed and wish them both success. GO MEAN GREEN EXES! -
O.K., I give up. No sense trying to be serious on this board. I'll catch it at a local watering hole or at home with my very own "cool ones".....try to tune in if you can. Good kid and a GREAT representative for UNT. I hope his team wins and we can watch him again...matbe he'll end up in the Arena Bowl in New Orleans against Dallas...way cool. He knows how to kick in New Orleans after winning the SBC crown in New Orleans....See ya!

I have absolutely no problem with the card's logo. It's one of the "official" Exes logos and looks pretty darn nice. Let me also say thanks to you for carrying the card..... I wish more EXES would carry a card with any UNT logo! Well done....
-
NICE JOB...VERY NICE JOB. Thanks!

Point of this thread was to see if anyone was interested in getting together for a Jason Ball AFL playoff "watching party" at a local watering hole like Sweetwater, Hooters, etc. Any interest out there? The game is this Saturday, July 7th at 2:00PM on ESPN. Interested? If so, where do you suggest we meet? I would be happy to set it up with the lcal establishment if necessary...or we could just show up. Again, anyone interested?

"Their"...THere...OOPS! My english teacher would be soooooooo sad!

Sad state of affairs. It is a shame when kids start commiting to college in the 7th and 8th grades as "whats his name" did with Kentucky yesterday. I think he is an Oak Hill kid! These are not cshools, and they do not have the best interests of the students at heart. These are athletic mills where the guys running the "schools" are making lots of $$$$ off these kids. They are using these kids in the worse way, and teaching them only to be "in it for themselves"....a real what's in it for me situation brewing. BUT, we did it to ourselves...who allowed this stuff to happen in the first place???? It will only get worse....and, what happens to the kid who commits to Kentucky in the 8th grade when he blows his knee out in the 9th grade...what happens to the Oak Hill kid who can't play anylonger for whatever reason? I am sure they will be receiving a real quality education at Oak Hill or Slammin' Jammin' High...whatever these basketball and football mills are called. How much are these kids getting in extra benefits? Their parents, what are they getting? You are smokin' the stuff if you think ANY of these "schools" are on the "up and up". The kids and their parents are seeing $$$$$$$$$...not education. I recall a GREAT KID here in Denton who at a young age was a FANTASTIC basketball player...and, in fact, a great kid...played on my 5th and 6th grade basketball teams...had folks coming from miles away to watch the kid play in the 5th grade...went to a big-time program out of state...left when his coach left for another school...did O.K., but was never the impact player EVERYONE from the UNT coaching staff on up thought he would be. EVERYONE thought this kid had pro ball written all over him. Good thing for him that he had a great set of parents who kept him grounded (although he did have a tantrum or two while in HS, etc.), and that made sure he got a good education....still a good kid...never made it to the NBA. Moral of the story...these basketball factories are not their for the well-being of the kid's long-term prospects...just what they can get out of him/her NOW! Too bad...too bad.

I've seen a negative comment or two on theis site regarding the Exes. Too bad, and probably in the past...come see what the Denton Chapter is up to these days...come to the Mixer on the 18th. Should be fun, and you'll probably run into your GoMeanGreen.com fellow wordsmiths....at least some....maybe even the great drex, the rocket man FFR, etc., etc. Are you aware that the last Exes scholarship auction raised over $19,000 (after expenses) for scholarships at UNT? Lots of folks put in lots of volunteer hours to make that happen, and lots of folks are trying to put together events this year that are both fun and interesting. I KNOW the current Denton Chapter Board would love to have your thoughts and ideas, and your active participation. The Exes are NOT an athletic booster club...the Mean Green Club is chartered to be athletic-centered in it's main, but the Exes can reach across all spectrums of the University in its support, and is trying to do so...come to the mixer...be a part of the EXES. Would love to hear from you...see you there.

Biggio Hits 3000
KRAM1 replied to Eagle1855's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Put me in the "who cares" column...I'm sticking with the Cardinals until the Rangers show me they even CARE a rip about winning. Got to be the worst team in baseball over the last few years...yes, the Yankees are the worst team money can buy this year, but they have won on a somewhat regular basis. We still have the Senators here in the DFW area... oops...the sports capital of North Texas...Arlington! The Roughriders and the Outlaws are more fun to watch...those guys seem to care! Can't say as much about the Rangers...I think the players "care", but management and ownership seem to only talk a good show ... As the motto of the US Merchant marine Academy goes... ACTA NON VERBA, Rangers, ACTA NON VERBA! Or simply as the motto of the State of Missouri somewhat goes... SHOW ME! -
I'm with Greenbat now...let this thread die UNTIL we have a new football stadium. So, can we get something going on the stadium in the way of concrete progress or will we be left to wonder endlessly in the stadium wilderness? Rick V. .... time to say a little something perhaps... the animals are restless!
-
I'm with you there Daddy...bring on that new stadium BEFORE we worry about adding any new sports...men's or women's...baseball or men's soccer!
-
Dream on "UNTLifer"...if you think UNT baseball would draw a "couple of thousand" paying (or non-paying for that matter) fans to each home game, you are smoking something that is still classified as illegal! A "couple of hundred" would even be a stretch...travel budget you say...baseball plays 30-40 plus games a season...lots of away games...even if they are "close" to home. I KNOW men's soccer is a LONG WAY OFF at UNT...if ever...that's the difference. Some of you guys think baseball is a "done deal" at UNT. Maybe so....not a problem for me...I'll be at some games myself...hey, it's UNT...I support UNT....but there will be NO outpouring of local fan support for UNT baseball. It will have a core of solid fans, some "friends of the players" fans and a few, a few local baseball fans...that's it. I spent two years at OSU in grad school, and they have a great baseball tradition....great stadium on campus too, and they did not average over 2000 fans per home game. Not many "locals" in the stands either even when Robin Ventura and Pete Incavilla were knocking them all over the place.....GOOD LUCK with that baseball thing UNTLifer...see you at the games, I'd better get there early...I'm sure it will be tough to find a seat with all the fans. Hey, I've got an idea...let's build the new football stadium and see what happens with that BEFORE we worry about throwing money down the baseball sinkhole. OR...any other sport we currently do not have at UNT for that matter, and yes, that includes men's soccer!
-
So, all you baseball folks...why not "put up or shut up" with some cash? Some cold hard $$$$$$ will do wonders for your cause. Why not start your own "UNT BASEBALL FOUNDATION" and endow a bunch of scholarships and set some $$$$ aside for field maintenance and such? I'm not kidding...if you think baseball is such a great need for UNT, do something about it yourself...I know you can't get by the Title IX CRAP, but endowing the scholarships could go a long way in making baseball happen at UNT. It could happen sooner than you might think if you actually get behind it. But, no way it averages a fan base the size of even UNT's basketball average attendance. You folks are dreaming if you think UNT baseball will become Denton's favorite family sporting event. How many fans do the Outlaws average?????? That's fun baseball...and some good college baseball too, but the fans...all those "low income" Denton fans you describe sure aren't filling the stands. Too bad...it's fun, but tells me baseball is not a "big deal" any longer. Hey, I would attend UNT Baseball games...it's UNT...but, I don't think you would have to "get there early" to get a seat anytime in the near future. Anyone up for starting an endowment for the baseball team at UNT? Do I hear the deafing sound of silance form the baseball folks, or is thast the sound of pocketbooks I hear opening?????

Hey, our UNT EX, Jason ball, currently with the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football league will be on TV again this next Saturday at 2:00PM and ESPN. The Crush won their first Arena League Playoff game this last Saturday, and will play San Jose at 2:00PM (Central time) this next Sat., JULY 7th. Anybody up for a "Jason" watching party at one of the local watering holes???? Where would you suggest? The game is set for ESPN so just about any of the local "joints"...or even Hooters...will have the game on...or if there are enough of us and we call ahead of time...I would be glad to set it up...we can probably be certain they will have the game on... Anyone up for some Saturday afternoon Arena Ball with "OUR GUY", Jason Ball doing the placekicking and kick-offs????
-
SKIP the baseball...yep, here we go again...add men's soccer and BUILD THE NEW STADIUM. O.K., before we get going again...forget baseball AND men's soccer...Let's get the stadium going!!! Lots of thing...good things...can happen with a new stadium. GO FOR IT NOW!

I hope it landed on the field at ZERO U!

Until we get to the point where we look at these kids, and get them to sign, BEFORE they head off to other D-1 schools, then we will continue to need to pick up quality transfers where we can. I think JJ's last season helps a ton in that we have something to show kids we are recruiting that UNT CAN and DOES win...but, how long has it been????? And, let's see us go back to back in the Sunbelt...win the conference crown as well as the tournament...I think we CAN, and I think JJ is on the way...BUT...we are not there yet. In fact, we are just now beginning to even think we should be getting this quality of palyer on the "front end"....keep thinking BIG, keep playing well, and we won't have to take transfers...until then...CALL THEM...CALL ALL THE QUALITY ONES...and I mean quality on and off the court. We do not need any head cases or "legally challenged"...GO JJ!!!!
-
This kid can play...can we at least give him a call????? Let's not "think small" and think we shouldn't even try...UNT MUST start thinking like a winner and go after kids like this...Johnny...pick up the phone and make the offer!
