The crowd was much better last evening than the week before, so the word must be getting out. We even had Exes from dallas show up for the event...an Exes Board member no less...and several of the current Denton Exes Chapter Board members were in attendance. It is great to see the turnout. Rick V, Hank D. and Todd D certainly notice the support...BUT...we need to fill the place! Great "stuff" from Coach Dodge and it was a bit "fun" to see Rick V.'s face when George asked him about the new stadium. I think that question came out of the blue and it was fun to listen to the answer...something like...yes, we will have a new stadium...it is part of the vision for facilities at UNT...no, I am not ready to announce anything as yet. I am sure there is lots of work going on behind the scenes and lots of "private" fundraising going on for the new stadium...they probably want a sizeable chunk of it in hand before they announce too many specifics or start a new campaign. By the way...I met two guys from Arkansas who were at the show last evening...they were in Denton, heard about the show and came over...Big U of Ark. supporters...they stated how impressed they were with T Dodge and how they knew of his reputation for success and how they thought it was nothing but UP for UNT under Coach Dodge. Man, the word is out...the Green is Flyin' once again...get on the wagon...let's fill Fouts Field for every home game!!!!! Go Mean Green! Great evening at Hooters...see you next Monday evening at 6:30PM.

Sorry...I thought it was The Ticket doing the show since George D was the host....who has the right radio station to report???? Sorry...as the kids say..."My Bad". I go in person, so haven't worried about where to find it on the dial. In fact...getting ready to head that way from Dallas right now. See you there...GO MEAN GREEN!
-
Correct...the show will be on tonight at 6:30PM...even though we were "off" this last week with a "bye". No you are not missing anything UNLESS you don't come hear Coach Dodge tonight at the Coach Dodge Show at Hooetrs in denton...did I mention that it satrts at 6:30PM????? Just wondering. If you can't be there tune in to 1310 (The TICKET) on your AM radio dial and listen in...that way you won't miss anything! See you there! GO MEAN GREEN!

Hey MEAN GREEN...Remember...the Coach Dodge radio show kicks off at 6:30PM every Monday evening during the season at Hooters in Denton. I know this is an off-week, but we need to get out and show our support...it's a great way to spend an hour after work..on the way home perhaps...just watch how many beers you consume before heading home....and a great way to be part of the MEAN GREEN NATION. Come on out this evening...I'll see you there! Foods good, beer's cold and the Mean Green is there. Let's support the show and let's support Hooters who is hosting the event for us. No comments about Hooters and "support", guys...give me a break on that one....

I sure HOPE NOT! I am also an OSU grad and Georgia already beat us "between the hedges" (easy on the comebacks and comments on that one folks!), so we don't need another away loss. But, Troy is a good team, and they could certainly win the game, and I don't think a Troy win would surprise that many people. But, I'll be pulling for the Cowboys in this one. I think we should schedule OSU rather than OU if we want a Big 12 game...I think it could build into a really nice home-home situation once we have our new stadium. Before that, we would hagve to go to Stillwater as I doubt OSU would want to play at Fouts...just not big enough. We used to play OSU and I watched us (UNT) beat OSU one year...I think it was at Texas Stadium.....we (UNT) can do it. GO MEAN GREEN...BUT TONIGHT...GO COWBOYS! GO BLACK & ORANGE.... A little OSU trivia....do you know why OSU's colors are black and Orange? Well, I'll tell you...thank you for asking....originally they wanted to be " Princton on the Prairie"...Princton's colors are black and orange....and at one time the mascot was the tiger...ala Princton Tigers. There you have it, sports fans!

There will be no "events" at the Exes Center before the game, but I understand that it will be open. The Exes will have a tent in the Pre-Game tailgate area...stop by the tent and buy your Sink Navy T-shirt and other "stuff"...and, if you have not as yet...and why not...joined the Exes, you can sign up during the tailgate event. The Denton Chapter is sponsoring the 5th Quarter after-game event so folks can come by the Exes Center, have some frefreshments, talk about UNT's WIN and let the traffic get out of the way. Lots of pre-game stuff going on at the Tailgate area, but the thought is to see how folks might like a little 5th quarter to keep the spirit going a bit fater the game...We'll see...should be fun and I know several of the Denton Exes are doing a bit of work to try to help folks enjoy this event. Stop by and see....this is the first 5th Quarter event, but it is one of several events the Denton Chapter has sponsored and is sponsoring this year. Lots of great stuff going on with the Denton Chapter of the Exes...join up...volunteer your time to help...and HAVE SOME GREAT TIMES WITH THE MEAN GREEN NATION'S EXES MEMBERS!

That event was hosted by the Dallas Chapter of the Exes Association. My wife and I fond it on the web and went before the game. We are Denton Chapter Exes members and wanted to support the Dallas Chapter. We enjoyed the gathering...but, we are soccer fans too, so we loved the spot. Did not see too many Mean Green fans, but those we did see were seemingly enjoying themselves. Seems like every time someone tries to do something positive that there will always be some folks who want to find fault with it. Fine...that's your right, but instead of complaining why don't you use your MENSA skills and volunteer your free time to help make the situation "better"? I'm not "fussing" at anyone in particular, but my wife and I went to support the Dallas Exes, had some good cold beer, talked to some Mean Green fans and headed off to the tailgate area...what's not to like??? We even went back to Trinty Hall for a cool down pint before heading back to Denton after the game. A great Irish band was playing, the place was lively and several other Mean Green fans were there having a great time...and, there was some late night football on one tv, but, hey, the band was more fun! You can either choose to enjoy yourself or you can choose to find fault. You pick...it's your choice and your right! Me...I choose to look at the bright side! It was FUN!

Air Force played with heart...as all the service academies do...and we should remember that when Navy comes calling on Nov. 10th. TCU thought they had it in the bag when Patterson opted to throw instead of going for the 3 points with a field goal late in the game. The three points would have made it a 3 possession game and AF would probably have run out of time even with the great comeback. Bad decision by the coach, but TCU had other chances to "put the game away" and just couldn't. Give credit where credit is due...AF can strike and strike fast! They never gave up...this is a good example for our Dodge-led Mean Green. It "ain't over until it's over"...I think the great Yoggi Berra said something like that once. WAY TO GO AIR FORCE!

Was at the Coach Dodge radio show at Hooters last evening...and, yes, the officials at the SMU game were, in fact, from the Sunbelt Conference. I asked how they could miss the "knee" on an SMU pass reception that went for several yards after the catch and after the "kneee".....the official was RIGHT THERE! Coach Dodge said he gave them plenty of time to review the play and he still has no clue how they missed that call. Good Radio hour at Hooters last night...BUT, I was a bit disappointed in the crowd until I was told/reminded of the competing event at the AC for the "Jr. Mean Green Club"...Meet Your Buddy Night, I think it was called. Coach said he was heading over there right after the radio show to be part of the event. That's a great thing and congrats to Coach Dodge and his players! Now, let's get some better crowds at the Coach Dodge Show...Monday nights 6:30-7:30PM at Hooters in Denton. I was told the show was on every Monday at 6:30PM during football season....so, there's your schedule. Heck, if you show up and there is no radio show and no Todd Dodge one Monday at 6:30PM, the beer is still cold, the food is still good and the "service folks" aren't bad either! You could do much worse for an evening outing in Denton. I know this could be a problem if you drove from say, Dallas...but, then I heard that events that early werte impossible for Dallas folks to attend...even though I work in Dallas and made it to Hooters in plenty of time to beat the opening of the show...and, hey, I did not use a helicopter! Let's make it a full house for the next Todd Dodge radio show! GO MEAN GREEN!!!
-
I love our band AND they ALWAYS win the halftime show...but, could we...just could we please...play some "rockin' music" this year? Something that will get the crowd fired up? I know we have a great music school with a big jazz emphasis, but, hey, it's football...let's get some stuff the average joe recognizes and let's rock the house. I recall back in the 70's I think...the band did a STAR WARS themed half time show...even had Darth rising up amoungst a bunch of smoke. Man, the place was rockin' and NO ONE left to go "potty" or get snacks and drinks at half-time. Also...we have a great drum line...USE THEM! O.K., that stuff is not a complaint...just a suggestion...as I said...I do not leave at half time at UNT games...our band is the reason...in whatever they are wearing...and I did like the green shirts WAY better than the attire for the OU game. Way to go band! Let's pump it up and do the "rock the hose" stuff at halftime this year...If I want jazz, I know where I can go to hear great jazz with a cold adult beverage.... But...whatever the band does...I'm there at halftime because it will be way better than what the other team runs out on the field...as eveidence I give you this year's OU and SMU haltimes. GO MEAN GREEN! Fill Fouts Field!!!!
-
Our students stand during the entire game????? Are you sure you have been to a game in the last few years? I have, and have not noticed students standing the entire game...but, then, looking across to the student side I haven't seen many students at all! Not for a University the size of UNT. I give full credit and full respect to the students who do show up...they are great and loyal fans...I just wish it was tough to get a student ticket! Too many empty spots on both sides of Fouts Field...BUT, not for long...Dodge Ball is on the way...get there early and get there often for the best seats...you will be glad you did. I will look forward to seeing all the greek organizations, student clubs, etc., etc. holding places for their members again like it was when I was an undergrad so very many years ago...and I will look forward to it being toutgh to get a sideline ticket on the pressbox side too. It's coming...get tickets now or you may be left out in the cold. AND...I sure hope students are not sitting around all day like the previous post inferred......put down the X-Box and go run! Yes, I agree....if everyone else is standing it in NOT GOOD Manners to sit (unless you have a medical reason of course)....BUT, let's make sure we are standing for the right reason and at the right time...don't think that involves the full game and every single paly from both teams..... GO MEAN GREEN!
-
SHOSS...I agree with the "excitement" thing...I , too, am "moved" to stand quite often, but there is something called manners and common decency...I was NOT the only person at the game and I was not the only person to pay the price for a ticket. Just be aware of those others around you...stand when the excitement is obvious, not the whole game...I am with you...excitement reigns at UNT games...FINALLY! Now as to the "Aggie" reference...you want us to be like AGGIES!!!!! Eeeeek...you want to stand all game and call it school spirt...so be it. I won't argue that Aggies have a great deal of school spirit...BUT, standing the whole game is well known if you attend an Aggie game, and you know what you are getting. In caes you haven't noticed...UNT IS NOT TX A&M! We do not have the tradition of standing the whole game...I know of few other schools who do. Love those Aggies and their spirit...I just love it at Aggie games not UNT games! Take a look around, and be aware that there are other people trying to enjoy the game too who may not share your sense of having to stand for every little thing. I am not saying do not stand, heck, I was up a bunch and probably would have been up more if not for some of the folks near me who did not feel the need to stand for every first down. I guess it's like spiking the ball after a touchdown...in the words of one coach who was not fond of the practice..."act liike you have been there before"...ie; don't spike the ball for every little thing and don't stand up for every little thing. Act like you have been there before and act like you know you are not the only person who bought a ticket. NOW...let's pack the house on the 22nd at Fouts...and we can all stand for all the MEAN GREEN touchdowns and long passes and big sacks. Yes, we will tune up the "D" and get plenty od=f sacks this year...I just hpe I can see some of them "around" all the folks who want to stand up the entitre game. Go MEAN GREEN!
-
GREAT START LADIES!!!!! Way to go SOCCER LADIES! I sense the NCAA's on the horizon this year...and a nice run in the tourney too! We can start with a nice win this Friday against Texas! Go Mean Green...super job...simply super.
-
We NEED to renew this series and get one going with Baylor, Rice, TCU, Tulane, etc. Some "local" teams can really spark attendance and create some "must see" games. If SMU is smart, they will be begging us to do a home-home series extension. Some of the "other" more local teams might want to take notice. Sorry, I can get fired up about UNT playing SMU much more than I can a game against Middle Tennessee, Florida "whatever the name is", etc., etc. Just check out the crowds at Fouts when we get Baylor, SMU, etc. at home. AND, look for a great crowd for the Navy game. We need to add Army, Navy, AF to our home schedule as often as they will come here to play. Might be a great away trip to go to Annapolis too...or West Point or Colorado Springs. I'd go! So, let's do all we can to book "locals" and high-profile schools we can challenge for a win...I am tired of the "money games" against the OU's, Ark's, etc. of the world...and, before you hit me "upside the head"...I do understand the need for the "money game", but I am hopeful we will be somebody's "money game" in a few short years of Dodge Ball!
-
O.K., perhaps this is the right thread for me to post my one "gripe" about the SMU game. Why do people think they should stand the whole game and block other people's view the whole time? You know, everyone paid the same price for their seat and I guess some folks just don't have the manners god gave a goat! Do they think they are the only ones at the game or what??????? One guy stands up and the whole sections stands up! And, the guy standing is on about row 5 or 6! What in the sam hill is up with that??? There was a lady in front of me that walked with the assistance of a cane and had a VERY challenging time getting up and down all night long. How rude of those who think they are the only ones attending and so have the right to block everyone else's view! Give me a break. Were you born in a barn?????? Maybe the postings here are correct and the stadium design has something to do with the "standing up" problem, but I can tell you...if folks would jusdt sit,...EVERYONE COULD SEE...INCLUDING THEM! Now, don't get me wrong...there are times when one simply must stand at a football game...there were several of those times at the SMU game and everyone is aware and is 100% O.K. with that...heck...no way you can sit on third and "several" with the clock running down and your team needing a 1st and 10 to keep a drive alive...or a 1st and goal from the 5 with time running out...BUT, the whole blessed game?????????? Give me a break! Maybe we need Miss Manners to do a seminar on game manners for some of our fans. No, we don't want to sit on our hands and cheer lioghtly, so don't give me that "holier than thou" crap in reply. I just need to vent about the manners some of our fans showed...especially as I watched this poor lady struggle to her feet time and time again to try to see the game! O.K., I feel better now! Thanks for reading....

I Must Have Watched A Different Game Than Many
KRAM1 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Folks, like a lot of you, I went to the SMU game...and my wife and I had a great time. It was too bad we lost...we did play well enough to win...but, for me...we played with heart and we played until the very end. I did not see any "give up" in the Mean Green. And, for my $27.00 per ticket, I saw DM paly a fine game. Did he do everything right, no...but, he did plenty enough right to be on the winning side of that game. That 99 yard drive was a beauty...do you remember "Dickey ball"????? I have said many times...this year, I'm not looking for so many "W's"...I am looking for an exciting team to watch and a team that plays with heart and all out all the time. Yep, scondary got burned, yep, not much pass rush, yep a couple of bad reads by DM...But, for me...I was glad I saw this game in person. Lots to be happy about, so don't get your nose in a snit. This Dodge-ball thing will take some time. We begged for passing the last few years...well we got 600+ yards Saturday night and some foks still aren't happy. Chill, support the team and support the coaching staff...it will come around and the MEan Green will once again WIN BIG and WIN OFTEN. If one part of the team needs work, Dodge will see that it gets work...he did not win all those HS games at Southlake-Carroll because he ignored everything except tje offense. He is the head coach. It is a GREAT time to be a Mean Green fan. Let's just be there and support this program. Lots of time to see what happens and way too early to get one's "panties" in any type of wad! I have seen us play OU in Norman and SMU in Dallas...and things are looking so much better than they have the last few years. FILL FOUTS FIELD!!!!! Supporrt the team. AND, my thanks to everyone who showed up in Norman and at SMU. It's great to look up and see so much green in the stands. Thanks to SMU for not spreading us out all over the place like OU did. HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN! No, I do not have my head in the sand...I am just taking it as it comes this yearand it's getting better and better all the time! -
Folks...we will definitely get better. remember...TD had more tight ends on the roster than wide receivers when he showed up for day 1. Give it some time. I went to the OU game on the Exes bius...lots of fun, except our driver REFUSED to go over 50 mph the whole way up and back...I could have walked faster...but that's for another post. It was great being able to "knock back a cold one or two" on the way up and back on the bus. But, Firefigher Rick was on the bus I was on, and he said it right when he got on after the game...something to the effect of..."just a little bit of character building"...nothing to worry about. I agree...but, sorry, FFR...I am sure I got your quote wrong...maybe you can post the REAL DEAL. It was spot on! Anyway, the OU fanes were great!!! My wife and I walked all through the Sooner taligating area, and encountered nothing but friendly folks! Got lots of good lucks and lots of "thanks for coming to Norman" comment. Even a Norman policman welcomed us to Norman. We were in the sout endzone and the fans there were great...I have no clue what they all point to on a kick-off, but every OU fan there that my wife & I encountered was gracious and friendly. I will say the drunk fan that body blocked Eppy/Scrappy near the end of the third quarter was a bit of a jery...but I am sure he had one or two too many...the cops hauled him off in hand cuffs quickly and Eppy/Scrappy was none the worse for wear. Hey, if the OU band can wear uniformans...why can't the Green Brigade??? We lost the football game, but I think we won halftime. Band sounded great...just looked a little "less than steller" in thrie shorts and t-shirts.... Anyway...got home at 2:30Am after a great Staurday at the game...Hey...who keeps score in these "money games" anyway...IT WILL GET MUCH BETTER...Go Mean Green! Thanks to the Exes for the busses....
-
Me, I'm going to the UNT-OU game too, but I'll be watching the scoreboard for not only the UNT scores...hopefully lots of them...but also the OSU-Georgia score. Come on OSU...take doen the Bulldogs on their home turf! How great would that be for the OSU Cowboys. By the way, i attended the Dallas Cowboys Kickoff luncheon in Dallas yesterday. Boone Pickens was a guest and it was announced that his donations to the athletic dept. at OSU are in excess of $300million!!!!!! I think we could build a nice new stadium at UNT for less thasn that!!!!!! We need a Boone Pickens at UNT!
-
Very funny...got to hand it to those Okies! Keep it simple...hey, and they don't change "traditions" colors and logos every other year either. Go figure...I guess they have put a little more time into building a winning athletic program than in worrying about their school fight song. I'm not an OU fan, but they do seem to be doing the "winning" thing right these days on the football field at least. I'll be in Norman for the game Saturday...my guess, the place will be packed with a ton of Okies! O.K., maybe some Texans too....but, year in and year out, they pack 'em in. I am looking forward to the day when UNT tickets will be as hard to come by on a regular basis as OU tickets. Folks, keep it going and that day will come sooner than you might think...and in a bigger and better stadium too. GO MEAN GREEN...BEAT OU...I Hope!

What Random Team Would You Like To See The Meangreen Play?
KRAM1 replied to kmb0204's topic in Mean Green Football
Army...we should look to play Army and Navy in a home-home series on a regular basis. Ever been to Annapolis, MD or West Point, NY on a game day? It is FANTASTIC...and these guys will play us in denton...unlike several of the other...very good...but, no way posts...like Notre Dame, Arizona, So. Cal., etc., etc. Would love too see those guys play us, but I want them to come to Denton too...so, I go with Army and navy...you can throw in Air Force too. They will come to Denton as Navy is doing this year...I heard a rumor that Navy has already asked for 7000 tickets. I hope that is true...so they can see our SINK NAVY T-Shirts, and so we can beat the Middies! See you in Norman this saturday...Go Mean Green! -
Why "especially" the section where you sit? Something "special" about where you sit? Just wondering???? I think we should add theater seating in several sections...those "cahirbacks" are not all that comfortable. How much more are you willing to pay to have "comfy" seats???? Maybe it's a factor of age??? My rear-end was not as "picky" about seating when I was 25! How about you?
-
JUST keep winning and we'll get respect...be it in the SBC or elsewhere. Can't help the "pundits" who think other programs are better just because they have better/deeper football programs than the SBC...you know how that goes, right? Just win...get to the NCAA's and then we can beat the "higher ranked" teams and let them KNOW they don't want to tangle with the MEAN GREEN! GO MEAN GREEN SOCCER!
-
The soccer team has been a shining star for the UNT athletic program for some time now...both on and off the field. John H. and his teams seem to just get better and better...we are recruiting quality players and quality students and quality people to this progra. My hat's off to the women's soccer team. Every time I get to see them play, it's a great time...win or lose. Not many home losses however for the soccer team. Are you aware that Coach Hedlund also has a on that is a fantastic young player? I believe he is on the National Team for his age group. O.K., so I am a soccer "guy"....this is a great program and getting better all the time. It's NCAA's for this team this year...We need to schedule SMU and Texas A&M each year...great games, and we can beat them! Even if "G" does have a quality program at A&M also, the UNT program is righet there too! Go Coach Hedlund and go UNT SOCCER!!!!!! Now...let's add men's soccer! It WAS the "winningest program" in the history of UNT when they "killed it"...I was there when it happened...bad day...I still remember the meeting as if it were yesterday. But, that's a story for another time...let's get behind OUR UNT SOCCER TEAM and help them make it to the NCAA's AGAIN this season! GO MEAN GREEN SOCCER!!!!!
-
Hey, with the interest there seems to be in the bus trip to the OU game....how about a bus trip to the SMU Game???? I know it's close to Denton, but the parking absolutely SUCKS around that place...if we take a bus and leave early enough, from say Fouts Field....surely we could get enough folks to fill a bus at $30 or $35 a person...it could be a balst bringing coolers and stuff on the bus...and having another great time with UNT famdom. What do you think? Anyone besides me think it might be fun, and save a few headaches??? GO MEAN GREEN!
-
I'll ask again...is anyone else besides me in Section 36?????? I hope I am not in a sea of red!!!!! If you are in Sec. 36 let me know, so I'll know there are some friendly faces around somewhere in my section.
