  1. The glass is more than half full from where I sit. I think UNT is as close as it has ever been to starting to ACT and RESPOND BIG TIME. No, we are not there as yet...still too many "small time" things going on...but, we are marching forward. A little patience is in order....the BIG announcements will come, the new stadium will come and the wins will come. I believe it to be so...therefore...IT IS SO! Keep your "eye on the sparrow" and you would be amazed at how positive things look. Always look for the bad, and you would be amazed at how often things are negative. Gee, amazing how it works that way. Chin up....GO MEAN GREEN!
  2. As some have already said...because it is a special place and a great place to go to school and play football. We have a great new coach with a VERY bright future ahead. If a kid wants to play, play under a solid coach and get a great education...the UNT is your place. Be part of something and help make UNT even greater. I am with SUMG too...let's go ahead and extend Dodge's contarct NOW! I had a great time at the games...home and away (I went to the SMU and OU games)...and at the Dodge Radio show every Monday evening. Great guy, solid citizen and a great young coach. The players can and do relate to him and he can recruit in our own backyard. Bring in great local players and you sell a lot more tickets too! A real win-win in my book. It's a great time to be part of the MEAN GREEN NATION.....
  3. Just another in a long line of "missed opportunities" for UNT to move forward into the BIG TIME. As long as we think and ACT small we will always be considered small...that's by other conferences, other teams and POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTORS TO A NEW STADIUM, etc., etc. Wow...how bad can it be when the athletic dept. won't set up a bus trip for a game with Texas???? I guess they are way too busy deciding on which bowl to accept after that 2-9 season! The fans seem to be getting behind the program...why doesn't the athletic dept. and the Mean Green Club do the same????? Shame...just a shame. And an easy promo too...we did it years ago...I rode the bus down to Texas! It can be done.....just another in a long line of "missed opportunities". Too bad.. And, I might add....where were the Exes in this deal???? The Exes did a bus to the OU football game, why not try for a bus to the Texas BB game???? Just wondering.
  4. Two things here.... UNT Lifer...at what level did you play soccer and for whom? Your comments on the game did not indicate to me any real knowledge of the game...so sorry about that...what college did you play for or was it the MLS or in Europe? Really, just kidding...for whom did you play? Do you ever go watch the Lady eagles play at UNT? If so, we should meet and talk soccer (football) sometime. Green bat...the man with the facts...the self-proclaimed man with the facts...O.K., I give, Mr. I know my facts man, tell me the name of all the D-1 schools where baseball is considerd a big revenue sport and actually pays for itself year in and year out???? I am waiting on the facts, man....I do not know since "I have no facts"...only you have "the facts"...so, and while you are at it with the facts...tell me how many D-1 schools have a football team that pays for itself year in and year out? My, uneducated, un-factual guess would be VERY FEW...very few indeed compared to all the D-1 schools. I wonder how big the budgets at all the Sun Belt schools grew during this last season...Man, add all that great basketball revenue and we can build the stadium tomorrow. But, my non-facts are probably showing. And, when you boil it down to sports like baseball and soccer...very few, Mr. "I have the facts" actually pay their way...but, I await all the "facts" from the man that knows.... As an assumption...I have no facts....I guess that very few college athletic depts. at any level run in the black year in and year out! Costs are just too steep. That's why the "donars" become so important and the ad revenue, etc. The sports themseleves simply do not pay their freight. Frankly, that's not the only reason sports exist on college campuses...but, hey, no facts here! Enlighten me...
  5. We are just fine with Coach Dodge and we will be fine with Coach Dodge. Coach Dodge knows what he is doing and will get this thing going in the right direction. Some patience might just be in order, but we are definitely on the right track. Let's see where we are in 1-3 years....I'll bet we are plenty happy and are worried that someone just might "steal" Coach dodge from UNT. I had a great time at the games this year...the players NEVER gave up and the crowds were better than I have experienced in may years... RENEW YOUR SEASON TICKETS...HELP GET NEW SEASON TICKET BUYERS...and GO MEAN GREEN...and while you are at it...JOIN THE EXES!
  6. And...do tell me...baseball would pay for itself? Not in your dreams...UNT already has an equitable women's soccer tweam...a darn good one! Like I said...you likey baseball...I likey soccer...you likey...... and so it goes... no harm, no foul ... that's why they play the games. Batter up......
  7. Bring more grandmothers to court like this lady and let's get rid of some of these so-called lawyers we have running around.
  8. I think we win and end the season 3-9 with some bit of momentum going into next year...But, I think no team would like to end 0-12, so the "Florida boys" should come to play and play hard...their seniors do not want to go out on an "O-For" year...so, my guess is: UNT 28 FIU 17 And, our DEFENSE makes a couple of very nice stands to keep us ahead late! GO MEAN GREEN! Thanks for a very FUN year!
  9. I get it Lifer...you don't like soccer, and you obviously know nothing about the "beautiful game". No problem....that's why we have different sports...but, don't call baseball exciting...it's 3 1/2 hours of sheer boredom for about 10 minuets of action....see, everyone has their favorites! Make mine soccer....you say baseball, I'll say soccer...it's fine with me. Glad we can all share the enjoyment of whatever sport we like best! Enjoy the game...you better as your rear will be sore for sitting still for so long!
  10. Sorry folks...Fouts is what Fouts is. We just need to win and play good teams that folks care about...like Army, Navy, Air Force, Baylor, TCU, SMU...and I could go on.....let's just build on 2207, win more games in 2008 and see where we go with the new stadium. I believe RV and the school are behind the scenes working on a new stadium right now...but, no announcements and no bulldozers until a significant chunk of change has already been pledged. Who would want to start a stadium campaign with ZERO pledges in the "bank" and relying on $10 and $100 donations to get you there? Not me! I am all for "getting it going" and making it happens...and every donation, be it $1 or a $1,000,000 is welcome...and should be appreciated by RV and the school....but, if I'm running the show, I want some big dollars already pledged BEFORE I go "front and center" with a BIG TIME ANNOUNCEMENT & CAMPAIGN. BTW...was in Stillwater recently and saw the construction going on around Boone Pickens Stadium...UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!! But, I was also "impressed" to see that every gate entrance, every ticket booth, every wall was "named"....which means "private funds" were donated! It was the "Jones family gate", the "Smith Family Gate" the "Eskimo Joe's" this and that, etc., etc. We could do the same once things start rolling. I wonder what they "charged" for the naming rights to a gate or a ticket window, etc., etc. Wasn't "crass" at all...was really VERY classy! GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. Way to go, John....A true Mean Green Fan! See you at the BB games!
  12. Just another tragic end perhaps, but we should wait until the facts are ourt before speculating on any cause. I was not a fan, but Quiet Riot did have a fair following in its day!
  13. I'm thankful for all the fans who did find a way to make it to the game on Saturday. I enjoyed your company. I am also thankful for a VERY enjoyable 2-9 season...I think we'll be 3-9 before all is said and done....I too sat in the stands for many years with many fewer fans than we had Saturday....hey, I was there for the Florida State game in the snow several years ago...as an aside, it is amazing how many people I run into today that claim to have been at that game too...man, I could have introduced myself to eveyone there in anout 10 minutes...I wonder where all these other folks were hiding at that game???? Maybe they were all in the restrooms?????? Anyway, great to have Coach Dodge...things are getting better and better for the Mean Green Nation!
  14. Was it just me, or was anyone else VERY disappointed in our athletic dept. and administration fior the lack of any tailgate effort on Saturday? How can we even think we are BIG TIME when a little rain and a bit of cold completely shuts down the tailgate area???? Wow, hard to imagine. I heard from one tailgater that said he was called by "un-named Mean Green Club person" at 8:30am Saturday moring asking if he wanted his tent set up???? What? The question should not have even been asked...and, please, do not say, "well, gee' we didn't want to ruin the practice field in the muddy conditions"...give me a break! You may get tired of hearing me say this...BUT, if you want to be BIG TIME, you had better start acting BIG TIME long before you get there. You ASSUME that everyone will be there to tailgate and you ACT accordingly...you do not "beg off" because of a little rain and cold weather! My wife and I were there...I sat out in the stadium the whole game...had a great time with the MEAN GREEN FAITHFUL...if the weather was good enough to play the game, the weather was good enough to set up for tailgating...DO NOT ASK...JUST DO! You tell me you are big time, but your actions speak much louder than your words. Think about it!
  15. Interesting...if that exchange really happened. I cannot believe a coach would say something like that to another coach...or anyone for that matter. I'll bet Coach Dodge may have something to say about the after game altercation at tonight's Coach Dodge Radio Show. See you there.
  16. UNT Flyer...I agree....who can get fired up too much over Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Florida whatever you call them, etc., etc. Bring on Navy, Army, TCU, SMU, Tulsa, Baylor, Rice, Tulane, UT El Paso, etc., and then we can talk about some big time attendance and crowds. But, that being said....where were the students? When students at a school the size of UNT cannot muster any spirit to come to Senior Day and cheer for the Mean Green, well, that says a great deal, doesn't it? But, also, the athletic dept. and administration did not even think enough about the game to set up the tailgate area...there is plenty of "blame" to go around for the small attendance...if you want to be BIG TIME, you have to start acting like it...walking the walk...several years before you ARE BIG TIME. We need to stop "talking" and start walking the walk and that means everyone...the Athletic Dept., The Mean Green Club, The Exes, the administration, the city of Denton, AND THE STUDENTS! GO MEAN GREEN...see you at the Coach Dodge Show this evening at Sweetwater!
  17. Yes, but you do have to "make it personal" by lowering youself to base standards. Let's heat up the competition, but keep it civil...much like the intense rivalry between Army and Navy. They "go to the mat" with the rivalry, but after the game they traet each other with respect. You do not have to throw respect out the window to have a good rivalry. Class boys and girls...a little class, please! And, thank you! When we get to play some universities that we really "care" about beating...then the rivalries will really heat up...bring on SMU, TCU, Rice, Baylor, Tulsa, Tulane, UT El Paso, Navy, Army, Air Force...etc., etc. Who can get really fired up about Fla. Int'l, Fla Atlantic, Middle Tenn, etc., etc.? Beat the "you know what out of them for certain, but get too fired up about a real rivalry with them...not so much. Hey, that's just my two cents...
  18. I'll be there....let's hope qwe have a better turn out than we had last week. Folks...this might be the last one, so come on out to Sweetwater...enjoy the show and have some fun with the Mean Green this evening. Coach Dodge is VERY positive about the prospects for the team and for UNT football. So am I...Hope you are too...see you at Sweetwater this evening! Nice win Saturday...Man, let's be glad that WKY has some "not so smart" players who want to show off after a TD...cost them the game in the long run...good for us...bad for them. Nice job with the "bomb flop Hilltoppers"...hope you enjoyed it...cost you the game!
  19. I don't know...but on the girl's side...Texas A&M had to add to the stadium capacity for soccer...no such need for baseball. I think UNT average close to 750 game at the girl's soccer games...Men at SMU avg. over 750. Anyone have the stats for men's soccer overall?
  20. Come on folks...BE NICE! This type of stuff is not want we need in the MEAN GREEN NATION....let's enjoy the nice win...get ready for another one enxt week...and, stop all the bickering....you sound like a buch of "hens".....FFR did a great job at the game Sat. stying with the cheers and the tote board...was great to see and be part of a nice win...see you at Fouts next year! GO MEAN GREEN!
  21. My wife and I drove back from a Thanksgiving stay in Stillwater, Oklahoma for the game Saturday. It was sad to see that the tailgate section was not even set up, no Exes tent, no President's Council tent, no Letterman's tent, etc., etc. Folks, if we want to be BIG TIME we had better start acting BIG TIME. You should have seen the cars heading to Norman for the OU-OSU game...they had over 80,000 in the stands and it was just as cold and rainy there, and the students were out for Thanksgiving too. I am not going to compare the OU-OSU game with ours, but NO STUDENTS...how many live in Denton and Dallas and Ft. Worth...and a sparce crowd on the alumni side too. Too bad...you guys who skipped the game missed a good victory for the seniors and the Mean Green. But, until the athletic dept. and the administration start thinking and acting BIG TIME why do we expect anyone else to act that way????? My wife and I were there...we had a great time watching the Mean Green win...wish you were there too! GO MEAN GREEN...see you at the Dodge show this evening at Sweetwater...6:30PM...BE THERE!
  22. You could add men's soccer for soooooooo much less in the way of $$$$$$.
  23. OOPS! My "goof"...AND, I was there to see it! How soon can I forget? Sorry, just got carried away with the post at the end......31-21 we win at home...yes, I remember! Sorry!
  24. Mean Green Nation....we simply MUST put a lot of "rear ends" in seats this Saturday for several reasons: 1. It's Senior Day...we nned to send our seniors off with a great crowd; 2. We can set a home attendance record with about 15,000 in attendance; 3. We need to show our support of what Todd Dodge is trying to accomplish; and 4. It's simply a great way to spend a Sarturday afternoon with the Mean green nation! If you have tickets, and you cannot make the game, get it posted on this chat board and give them to someone who can use them. If you have access to "free" tickets somewhere, like work, get them and get them into the hands of somone who can use them...if you have a stack of tickets, donate them to the Cumberland Children's Home or the State School so some folks can go and have a great time. Let's get as many folks as we can in the seats one way or the other...the students will be "out" for the Thanksgiving break, so we cannot rely on a big student crowd, but enough students live in the DFW metroplex that we SHOULD expect at least a decent showing. Come on...let's get as big a house as we can....SUPPORT THE MEAN GREEN...AND...get to see Todd Dodge's first home victory as coach of the Mean Green!!!
  25. Is everyone SURE that he really Was trying to compare the loss to 9/11, etc.? I've read the quote several times and am not 100% sure that it was the point he was trying to make. Maybe if I had heard it "live" on a re-broadcast....could he have really that the two were even remotely similar?
