  1. Wow...what a story...tough road, but he made his choices. So sad to see this kind of talent go to waste...seems from the article that he could (maybe he did) have made a real positive difference in some young person's life. Don't know, but it is a sad day for the Mean Green Nation...it didn't have to end up this way!
  2. Chase Daniel has been a class act from day one! He ALWAYS seems to say the right thing when they stick a microphone in front of his face...no bragging, no "it's all me"...this guy learned from some great teachers...one of them being UNT's very own...TODD DODGE!
  3. Rick...VERY GOOD! Yes, the wake up call of all wake up calls is when one gets married and really "sees" their partner for the very first time! Always fun to see what the package is after it is unwrapped...and that goes VBOTH ways I am 100% sure! Great, Rick! Perfect!
  4. Ain't politics fun? It is really great to read all the comments and see the reactions folks have this early in a campaign. I think Hillary is still in the race,a nd I think she's the easiest for the Republicans to beat in the general election...I just do not want her to get the dems nod. She is not what I would want in the White House...man, I can't see it. Seems to me that she will lose because the women will not vote for her. All the women I talk to about the primaries don't like her...interesting, me thinks! You can always count out the "young vote" in the end...they don't vote! It's a real shame...each time a prez election rolls around every college campus in the country gets going and lots of college aged kids volunteer to work for so and so's campaign...then come election day they seem too busy to vote...no where to be found..."missing in action"...I don't see this election as any different. It really is a shme...just think what the "young vote" could do if they got behind a candidate and actually voted! It should be fun to see what happens in NH. I see that Huckabee does not even hardly register on the early polls in NH and you may recall that NH was the stae that gave Bill Clinton the moniker as "comeback kid"! It is WAY too early to count anyone in or out on either side...so, buckle your seat belts...this should be pure folly for the next few months.
  5. Tough loss...2 L's in a row in conference...need a turn around quickly...I do not think Troy beat us in this one...I think UNT made too many mistakes down the stretch...what's with the inbounds pass "challenges"????? Basic stuff...basic stuff...you just have to win these games on the road...0-2 on the road in conference does not bode well at this point, but....it's a long way until it's over...get ready for some different attitudes when the team gets home...they should be mad and embarrassed the way they have played on the road...I think JJ will "fix" that attitude and things will get going in the right direction...they had better and soon! GO MEAN GREEN! Tough loss, guys...go get 'em the next time out!
  6. Very funny...but, having watched SMU play over the last few years....they have several players who I do not think could play for Dodge at UNT.....so, I do not think "all" the SMU recruits "could" play for UNT...some just are not the "right" fit for the program. Remember...UT didn't think that Chase Daniel "fit" at Texas! I wonder if they changed their minds after this season???? My guess, probably not...I don't think Chase Daniel would "fit" at every D-1 school in the country...that's why R. Dodge was recruited at Texas as an "athlete", not a QB. Their loss...UNT's gain...I think R. Dodge will be a gREAT addition to the UNT squad...wherever his dad decides he should play! GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. I do not recallNewton as a UNT recruit...I hope I am wrong. I'd like to see the guy at UNT. Does anyone know the "real" story on Tre?
  8. I am thinking that the class looks really good...so far...now they need to sign! It ain't over until it's over when it comes to this recruiting game....nice job locally so far...let's see where we go...I give Dodge and his coaching staff a B+ so far...could be a "A" come signing day...we'll see, but I tend to like the way it is looking so far...we do need to get some "big guys" for the D-Line and O-Lines......
  9. DMN is reporting this morning (Friday, 1/4) that JJ is being offered $2million per year by SMU...THAT's why the guy might take the job! I think we all knew that $$$$ would be the reason ANY "name" coach would even consider the SMU graveyard of coaches. However, look what the "big boy" did to a DEAD program in Kansas! Can you spell turn around????? The living "Kips Big Boy" is definitely COACH OF THE YEAR! Man, the KU program was soooooo BAD for sooooooo many years...gotta hand it to him! GREAT COACHING JOB...great turn around for a program from a Basketball School! So, can June Jones do it at SMU? The real question is can Coach Dodge do it at UNT! I say "yes", and I say GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. I am with you on that one! And for UNT...as soon as we can stop playing these "money games" against the likes of OU and LSU the better! Our "money games" need to be against Navy, Army, Baylor, Rice, SMU, TCU, etc., etc. I am sick and tired of starting the season in a big hole and with some beat up players because we have to play these "money games"! I know it's something UNT has to do to get the $$$$ into the budget, but Geeeeeezzzzz, do we have to do it year in and year out and forever???? Let's hope not....I'd love to head into conference paly with some wins under our belt or at least some "not blowout" games just so we can make a bunch of extra $$$$$. Yes, alas, I do realize that we need the $$$$$$............
  11. Did anyone else see or hear that Tony Elliott (a UNT and New Orleans Saint nose tackle in the 80's) has passed away? The paper said that he was 48 and was "later paralyzed in a shooting". This is a sad event for the Mean Green Nation. Let's all keep Tony Elliott and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
  12. I agree, let's not laugh too much until we get "our guys" signed...but, it does make one smile just a little at SMU's "state of affairs". I wonder if they have any recruits that we should be talking with at this time due to the coaching "situation"? I am sure that some of the SMU recruits could definitely play for UNT. What do you think? BTW...if I think about this, you can be 100% sure that Coach Dodge and his staff are giving it the "once over".
  13. June Jones would be CRAZY to take the SMU job...if it was even offered at all! They will need to pick up a re-tread or some young assistant or something...SMU is a grave yard for coaches, and I don't ssee it getting much better in the near future. It will take a complete 180 for SMU to start really supporting their program. They have a nice stadium, a good academic centered school and they sit in the middle of a great recruiting area, and still they can't get it going. PB was a great guy, and, all in all, a very good coach...and look what it got him...where is he now???? So, just what in the heck is in it for June Jones? If he does leave Hawaii...he could certaily do better than SMU...that "ain't" hard!
  14. I doubt that we will see a calendar this year with the new Exes leadership just coming on board late in the year. As you might well imagine, things at the national level have been a bit "up in the air" recently. That should start to change now that Derrick Morgan is onboard with the Exes and "steering the ship"...hopefully, in the right direction. However, the Denton Chapter of the Exes is alive and well...as you may have noticed with the Mixers, Happy Hours, T-Shirts (Footgball and basketball), etc., etc. More to come this new year fromk the Denton Chapter...everyone who is an Exes member (or woukld like to consider being an Exes member) is welcome to join the Denton Exes at their events. Look for notices of activities and events in the DRC and on the Exes web site. GO MEAN GREEN....JOING THE EXES..... drex...thanks for the great work on the calendars in year's past...they are now collector's items! Hopefully, we will see the return of the Exes calendar soon...who knows, maybe even one for 2008....are you holding your breath????
  15. Better late than never...so, after taking a break fron the board over the holidays... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Greenjoe! Remember, it's not the age we celebratye, but the day...it is your day, you own it...make it a great one!
  16. Hey, I remember when they said we kids were all going to hell because we liked Elvis and his shakin' pelvis!
  17. Pretty funny, isn't it...But, it all stems from a report/documention that was not submitted in time by the University or someone at the University. If I was the TT President, I might have someone's head or another part of their anatomy on a plate! VERY EMBARRASING, but let's not take this too far...one agency put them on probation, yes, a big dog agency, but it was not because they had a poor course of study...it's because, as I understand it, they missed a deadline for paperwork. However, I agree that UNT competes for some of the same students and UNT needs to make "hay while the sun shines" out of this touting it's full status! Let's see if UNT even notices!
  18. Like was said earlier...I AM SO SHOCKED! NOT! I was 100% sure the team was made up entirely of scholar-athletes...mostly Rhodes scholars I was to believe.
  19. Wow...great response...! Sorta like the "love it or leave it" crowd. O.K., point made, but why don't you write about something else? This is a VERY dead horse...try something original for a change. You keep acting like Dodge has no clue what's going on with the DC and HIS defense..."HIS" meaning Dodge's. I have to believe the man knows what he is doing...have a little faith! Sooooooo...give this line of chat a rest and have a little faith in OUR program. BTW...the thread's title does not indicate that it was going to be just another of the long and tiring threads that say nothing more than FIRE THE DC! A rest of that line is in order! I promise not to read them anymore if you promise to make sure the title of the thread indicates the content!
  20. SAD...very SAD response from the FAU fan base. Do they even have a fan base????
  21. I'm thinking that Greg Ellis should have been named to the Pro Bowl too and not as an alternate. he's having a great year!
  22. Zero Tolerance policies are very challenging when this sort of thing happens. I hate them as too may times "good kids" get caught up in them and are unduely punished as this 10 year old will undoubtedly find out. On the other hand...how loud would the cries have been and how many lawsuits would have been filed if the young lady used the knife to threaten another student after being allowed to "keep" the knife during lunch? Man, I can hear the folks screaming for the teacher's, principal's, superintendant's heads now. The schools are pretty much in a "darn if we do and darn if we don't situation". My heart goes out to them in trying to enforce any level of discipline and any number of rules these days. TOUGH JOB! Every body is looking for a piece of their "you know whats", and often they give everyone just the right amount of gunpowder to blow their own a.....s off. man, tough job!
  23. I agree with CorinthEagle on this one...PLEASE...PLEASE give it a rest. This is going nowhere and it has been cussed and discussed at great lengths on this board. Dodge knows what he is doing and it is his "neck" on the line...let's see where he goes with this whole situation...guess what? He is closer to it than any of us and has way more experience...I'll let him handle it. Please give this a rest.
  24. How about cahrging a dollar for gerneral admission tickets for a "Day" like you are suggesting. Hey, it's some $$$ and we would get some concession and maybe "parking" dollars out of the deal....well, maybe...just maybe even a new "convert" who will start coming to the games at full face ticket prices. You never know!
  25. Very funny...but remember, payback is "hell". If this happens and we start "messing around" with other university booster sites and start making the type of donations suggested here, we should not "complain and yell" when it happens to us. This is not a situation I would want to see happen here at UNT. Leave other schools programs alone...everyone here knows how hard it is to raise $$$$ for anything...much less athletics at a place like SMU. Let it be and concentrate on building up your own "war chests" to donate to our new stadium when the call comes...and it will come....
