  1. Congrats to Brian...great representative for UNT. Good to see Brian get the PR and for UNT to get some good pub too! GO BRIAN...GO MEAN GREEN!
  2. Excuses...excuses...they are a dime a dozen. I hear the nonsense about why folks don't get flu shots...all garbage...bottom line...they are either lazy or chicken about the needle. How do I know...because I said the same things about the flu shot for years when I did not want to get a SHOT! Yep, call me chicken...I was. But, no longer...I get a flu shot as soon as they come out each year...know what...they do not hurt! I found something out recently about shots...the flu shot doesn't hurt because the flu vaccine is so liquid...and thin...not a thick vaccine like the tetnus vaccine. Tetnus vaccine shots sting more because the vaccine is "thicker" and the stind happens when the vaccine is pumped into your arm...not really from the needle prick. I found that out because I took a flu shot one day and a week later had a tetnus booster and had a discussion about the difference with the nurse...go figure...who knew????? So, all you folks with all the flu shot excuses...GET OVER IT...GROW UP...get a flu shot...that goes for you big guys on the basketball team too!
  3. My hats off to the Pit Crew. We need that same student involvement and enthusiasm at the football games next season too. You guys are great. One of the highlights of the season for me has been the Pit Crew. It is great to see UNT's student body having a great time at the games and really being a positive factor in the outcome. A great crowd and a loud crowd helps the home team a great deal...you are doing a great job and I salute you all! See you at tonight's Sop Alabama game!
  4. This will be a fight from the first tip off to the end...I think JJ will have the team really ready to play and to play the spoiler role for So Ala's unbeaten Sunbelt run. The run ends tonight at the Super Pit! My wife and I will be there to see the win...If we are not ready for this one, then we have bigger problems than anyone thought at the first of the season. I think the team will really play well...and hard...tonight from start to finish. Will UNT win...hard to say...So Ala is a very good team...BUT so is UNT. Close game...UNT wins it down the stretch and the home crowd plays a big role...Keep the noise level up tonight. Go Mean Green!
  5. I agree with SMUG...our tennis team is really making a name for itself...great to see. We need to see more good PR about the good things going on with some of UNT's "minor" sports like tennis, golf, swimming, etc., etc. Yes, you can throw soccer in the mix too, but soccer gets some decent PR with the way it has become a winner year in and year out. Way to go Tennis!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. May we all live long enough to hear something concrete on the new stadium from RV! I am hopeful that it will happen in my lifetime!
  7. Is everyone 100% sure that this new policy at OSU applies the visiting team's allotment of tickets??? I am not so sure that there will not be an allotment provided to OU just like in the past...so the OU fan could by a single ticket if he/she was "lucky enough" to get one even through OU for the game. I can't see OSU cutting out all the visiting team ticket allotments as the other schools would certainly do that to OSU...and then the thing would just roll on to every other school who thinks they can sell out the stadium for each game with season ticket holders...I know this is the OU game policy, but.....will other schools follow? I wonder if you have described the policy in full?????
  8. I don't have any problem with the $10 IF they have adult beverages of the beer kind to go along with those appetizers! I can't make it due to the time...not the cost. I hope the joint is filled to the rafters and that the dept. makes a little change from the event. No problem at all with that...any new $$$$ is good $$$$...and UNT needs allthey can get to keep moving the program forward. I think we'll see a great calss for Coach Dodge and his program! YIPPEE!!!! Go Mean Green....Joing the EXES and Join the Mean Green Club! Support UNT!
  9. Way cool! By the way I ref soccer and it is always...I mean always fun when I get to ref the younger level girls. They are really good and seem to enjoy it at that level more than the boys do. The boys are all into the win even at the young ages...and so are their coaches and parents...but, the younger girls seem to be having more fun learning the game. I do love to ref all the ages...boys, girls...have done some HS (that's a real trip when you get the football parents in the stands at a soccer game! ) and even did a UNT Men's pre-season game in the center once when the assigned ref had to back out for some reason at the last minute... Great clock, Rick!
  10. Nice Reply GreenBat... Now, that being said I know not everyone can attend all the games even when they would like to do so. I just want everyone to support the MEAN GREEN in the best way they can...GO MEAN GREEN...see you at the game Thursday night!
  11. Greenminer...sorry about the UTEP thing...you are, of course, 100% correct. But, never the less...there would be more than enough men's programs close enough to get games for a men's soccer team. Besides, if we stepped up...other near by universities might just do the same. Still do not get the attraction for men's baseball before men's soccer....even the sports "rich guys" in the US are beginning to buy English Premier League teams...that says something about the impact here in the states and where the whole soccer thing might be going over time...No, it will never rival the big three here of football, basketball and alas baseball on the pro level, but it is moving forward. The soccer specific stadiums are a big hit and they are filkling up with "rears in the seats"...oh, well, I sound like a personal broken record. I still say...BRING BACK MEN'S SOCCER! It will be a winning program at UNT and it will win soon after re-start! GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. Nice article...nice work by Dodge and his staff. I also think it best to have Riley red shirt, but I am not the coach! We'll see where that goes, but, gee, it's a nice question to have to answer. GO MEAN GREEN...Go UNT!
  13. I think EVERYONE knows my stance on the men's soccer vs. baseball thing...I am for men's soccer 100% before baseball...baseball is way more expensive then men's soccer...even with the travel...when you consider travel for both teams, facilities...we have a soccer facility that will work just fine....number of players per team (scholarship money), uniforms and equipment...soccer is less...and that does not even mention that soccer is a much more "fan friendly" game...more action, less time...etc., etc. Wecould play SMU, Tulsa, New Mexico, UTEP, Centary, St. Louis, Creighten...I THINK all these schools have D-1 men's programs....anyway, i do think we could find an adequate schedule. So...yes to men's soccer...no to men's baseball...IF I have to choose between the two. Both would be O.K.... we could add women's crew and lacrosse?????? GO MEAN GREEN! And, yes, I agree that JH has done a very nice job and is one of our most successful coaches in the last decade or so!
  14. I agree that we are better, but as SUMG says, the whole league is better...we must step up to the competition. We are undefeated at home, and that will continue Thursday with a win over NO (I hope and trust). But, it will be tough with two early lossses in league play...should not have lost either one...but, hopefully, the team (and coaches) learned something from those early losses. I do think we need some work on the inbounds pass and on breaking the press...have not looked good in either area at any game I have seen (or heard on the radio) this season...getting better, but not there as yet! Always makes me nervous when any pressure is put on our in-bounds play! GO MEAN GREEN! If you werte not at the Coaches' Radio Show at Sweetwater this last Monday evening you missed a "standing room only" crowd and a really great time...Quincy Williams spoke and did a great job. He is a super young man and we are sure lucky to have him as a part of UNT. Derrick Morgan, the new Executive Director of the UNT Exes, spoke as did both Tina and Johnny. Sweetwater came across with some nice "specials", there were trivia question give-a-ways...it was just a great evening to be part of the Mean Green nation. I hope you will consider attending a radio show or two this season. This Happy Hour was sponsored jointly by the Denton Chapter of the UNT Exes and the Athletic dept. Nice job in getting the turnout folks...it was fun!
  15. I agree with Greenjoe...EVERYONE renew your tickets (and buy more if you can) AND join the Mean Green Club AND join the Exes! I know some of you have a "challenge" with the Mean Green Club and/or the Exes. I, too, have had my "challenges", but recently I came to the realization that my support helps UNT move forward, and I think that's what we need to do. "Keep you eye on the sparrow" was a phrase a mentor of mine once kept telling me when I would lose site of the real goal and let the "little things" or "lettle people" get in my way. Folks, "keep you eye on the sparrow". If you want things to keep going forward, and I truly believe that they are, support the university EVERY way you can, and don't let the little things get in the way. What really matters is that UNT is moving forward. It is OUR university, and it is moving forward. So, I say with Greenjoe...renew your tickets, join the MeanGreen Club and join the Exes! It's a GREAT time to be GREEN!
  16. Interesting...but if he continues to bring in good local talent...just how unpopular with the players can he be? I agree that it seems we should have gone a bit further in the NCAA's with the talent we have had over the last few years...but, that's also what they are saying at A&M and "G" has taken that team to the NCAA's on a very consisant basis...he just hasn't won it all as yet. I guess it's all a matter of perspective, but I think we definitely should be going deeper into the NCAA playoffs with the talent we have had, do have and will have... GO MEAN GREEN SOCCER!
  17. Looks like the start of a strong class to me. When you rate girl's programs in the North Texas area these days, do not overlook the Texans. They seem to be moving into the elite catagory as the Sting, D'Feters, etc. have been for some time. Coach Hedlund continues to do a good job recruiting "local" talent. I anticipate the the Mean Green will return to the top of the Belt in '08...Do I see an NCAA bid in the works...we'll just have to see about that, but the possibility does exist with the returners and the nice recruiting class...a freshman can make a difference. GO MEAN GREEN...GO SOCCER!!!!!
  18. BeanCounterGrad03...I am with you on that "everyone's a winner" mentality thing...I see it all the time...everyone gets a trophy at the end of the year...HUH? Yep, up to about age 10 this is O.K., I guess, but after that...learn how it works...you win or you lose when you play the game. But, that's not the current PC attitude...wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, right? I am wondering, for the sake of discussion, if you have only one winner at the end of the D-1 season in football, does it hurt the dollar flow any from a contributions standpoint? Seems to me the other sports and other divisions in football, do just fine with a playoff system...think NCAA Basketball and D-II and D-III football, etc. Just wondering what everyone else thinks...it is a discussion that will probably go on forever in the sports world as I really don't see a playoff coming in my lifetime at least...anyone else care to comment????
  19. GoMeanGreen1999...please explain a bit...I am not sure I see where your first sentance matches up with your second.....who should question themselves and why? If you believed in Dodge's commitment when he first came...why would you question yourself now that he has made a "tough" personal call and look for ways to improve???? Huh?
  20. YEP!
  21. So, after watching this year's bowl games...prior to the "championship" game...what do you think? Do you still want a playoff for a "real" #1? With so many good games...Texas, TTECH, Mich., Okla. State, KU, WVA, etc., etc. all being able to end their seasons as winners...do you still think only one team should be a winner at the end of the season. This subject was discussed in today's DMN by Tim Cowlishaw....what do you think? I may be changing my mind a little... When we return to the New Orleans Bowl as the Sunbelt Champ in the near future...do we want to then be stacked up against a "bye" week team such as Michigan or OSU or LSU, etc., etc. and end the season that way? O.K., I know we could stand a chance of winning tyhat game, but at this point the odds are fairly long (I do hope UNT changes those odds soon...and under Dodge we may just have a chance...Fry did it...so can Dodge)...but, for now...well....just what do you think about this topic now? Just wondering.....
  22. Pretty interesting Bowl series, huh? So, would you want a playoff when you see how many colleges can end their seasons as winners? Just a thought....
  23. Tough cut for Coach Dodge, but shows he will do whatever he needs to do to turn this thing around and as quickly as possible. Sorry Coach Dodge had to do this, but he is the head coach and the buck stops with him. That is a position that he is 100% willing to assume...the buck stops with him and he knows it and accepts it! The guy knows what he is doing and he WILL win at UNT! You gotta believe! GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. So, for all the folks who said that Dodge didn't know what he was doing with the DC hire...what say you now? After watching and being around Coach Dodge for a year here at UNT, I am more convinced than ever that he is the REAL DEAL and knows exactly what he is doing and where he is going....and not to some other D-1 school...I hope! Hang in there foolks, there are good things happening with the program at UNT! I will bet this was a very tough decision for Coach Dodge...not, perhaps from a football one, but from a personal one, and we need to understand that, and realize it might have been a tough one, but it does say that Coach Dodge is willing to "do the right thing" in his pursuit of improving the w/L numbers at UNT. He will do what it takes...so, next season....buy more tickets and get even more rear ends in the seats because good things are happening at UNT! GO MEAN GREEN....and while you arwe at it...JOIN THE EXES!
  25. O.K., FFR...answer the question...if you get it...can you play it?
