North Texas Officially Is Third Largest University In Texas
KRAM1 replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
You know, reading this makes me wonder....why folks insist on being "the glass is half empty" folks. Come on folks, UNT is moving forward...this is good news...UNT has great academic programs for a very reasonable tuition and fee "price"...yes, even with the announced hike in tuition recently announced. For way too many years folks seem to feel they have to "apologize" for UNT...for being a student of or an Ex of UNT...like it was some "inferior" university compared to others....what is that all about?????? UNT is a great university and it is getting even better. Does it have some "challenges", sure...show me a university that doesn't and I'll show you one "hiding" a bunch of its "challenges" under the rug in the hopes that no one finds them! What IS interesting to me is why we have so few "givers" back to the University after graduation. With rhe Exes we have in just the DFW Metroplex alone the "giving" figures should be at least five times what they are. Just seems everyone wants to "complain", and leave it up to others to help UNT move forward...in either athletics or academics. Get used to the fact that UNT will no longer take a "back-seat" to anyone...get with it! Let's find the positives...LIKE UNT BEING THE 3rd LARGEST UNIVERSITY IN TEXAS! YIPPEE! GO MEAN GREEN! -
Great start ladies...keep it going...we need a solid program from softball and I think TJ can get us there...way to go...great start!
-
Tough game...WKU is, indeed, tough...better get ready for the tournament!
-
Did you see the signings for soccer in the paper? Looked like another VERY good class that actually signed with the Mean Green this week. Way to go Coach H...now, let's win the "Belt and head to the NCAA's. I think you have the talent to get it done!
-
The guy can coach, but I think he has "unfinished" business here at UNT. But...think about it...how long would it take you to say "yes" to LSU if they put an offer on the table and you were JJ? It's a career move...nothing against UNT...BUT SEC vs SunBelt...Hmmmmmmmm...let me think about that for how long????? I hope it is only a rumor!
-
Great question...do they get a 100% free ride????? That's pretty interesting. I wonder if it applies to all state u's...since UNT is not part of the U of T system. I do think UNT faculty and staff get a break on the tuition for their kids, but not 100% certain...can someone who knows clue us all in? But, would that work for scholarship athletes such as Riley? If tuition is free, can't see where it would matter for an athlete or a non-athlete...someone in the know...clue us in...thanks. Great question.....

Nolan Ryan Back To The Rangers?
KRAM1 replied to Boomer23's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Nice Jay Dub...didn't your mother tell you that if you can't say something nice then to keep your mouth shut? Since when does "not being a baseball fan" make one an idiot???? You obviously did not learn that part of the "growing up" thing...but, maybe you haven't grown up...can you not appreciate a little tongue in the cheek humor???? Looks like Quoner got the humor....Lifer that 90 min. 2-2 tie would have been 14-14 in football with overtime going until a win.....so looks like US and Mexico played to a 14-14 draw...wow...lots of scoring...28 points!!!!!! You obviously did not watch the game...I'll bet JayDub didn't either. Yea, baseball is a tinking/talking sport...you are right about that JayDub...since it certainly IS NOT an action sport! I see a few big time US businessmen buying soccer teams in Europe these days, but I haven't seen a European buying any baseball teams lately...not that it really has anything to do with it.... I'll keep up the "baseball shots" every chance I get because it certainly brings out the best in folks like JayDub! Please do get a little more creative in your name calling in the future...it will be much more enlightening! And, don't worry spring training is just around the corner...you can take lots of naps and wake up without missing any action after 30 minutes! -
Man, go figure...just what were they thinking when he was named...I can only imagine!
-
Man, just read these comments and think...What a Great time it is to BE part of the MEAN GREEN Nation! I cannot recall when things were as positive at UNT as they are right now. Good things are happening all over the place...not only in athletics but in academics. This is great to see...looks like UNT is moving forward! FINALLY! Todd Dodge has brought a great deal of "positive" to the program...I do believe that success on the field will follow! Man, great to see this positive stuff!
-
This should probably be moved to the UNT News section of this blog. Dr. Vance was a good prof ay UNT for some time...lots of us had him for basic biology (botany). I even remember some of the stuff he tried to teach me. Good guy...sorry to hear of his death. May he rest in peace...God bless him...he did make a difference in quite a few young lives here at UNT.

Nolan Ryan Back To The Rangers?
KRAM1 replied to Boomer23's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Woody...I agree with your comments on Nolan and his credibility, etc. BUT...YOU HAVE TO BE EITHER SMOKING SOMETHING OR DRINKING WAY MORE THAN YOU SHOULD when you make a comment like "baseball has to be the greatest sport on earth". Man....sooooooo far off! BORING is how you actually spell baseball at the pro level...I enjoy a bit of HS and college baseball, but the pros are so very boring that it hurts. Where have you been in all the discussions on this board about baseball at UNT? Some of your baseball "buddies" here would love to have you plugging away for baseball at UNT. I would guess that baseball would be the next sport added here at UNT...if one on the men's side is added...Thanks again to Title IX...oh, that's right, it was not meant to do away with any men's programs....and, if you believe that one......well, you might if you think baseball is the greatest sport on earth! I know...let's get the baseball at UNT thing going again ojn this board...that's always good for a few "hot sports opinions".... -
Who thinks they might make it to the Mixer on the 16th. I'd love to meet some fellow GMG posters...

Nolan Ryan Back To The Rangers?
KRAM1 replied to Boomer23's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just for the life of me...I can't see where this changes a thing for the lowly Rangers. What a pitiful excuse for a major league team! They couldn't beat a good college team on a reguklar basis...maybe not even a good HS team! What a waste they have been the last oh so many years...not worth half the price of admission. Nolan Ryan is a class act...he is good for the team from a business and PR standpoint, but, I ask you, will he be able to bring some decent pitching to town? Many have tried and failed....I wish him luck...the game of baseball is super boring as it is...let's hope Nolan can work his knowledge of the game into bringing a decent product to Arlington.....if anyone can...he can. Good luck Mr. Ryan...I am happy you are a Ranger once again. -
If You Are Going To The Wku Game, Please Read
KRAM1 replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'll be there...and I'll stand for the opening tip off...do most of the time anyway...have done so since I was an undergrad oh so many years ago...it was tradition! And, should still be...SEE YOU AT THE PIT TONIGHT! -
This is GREAT NEWS! And, just think...this news comes out BEFORE there is any "OFFICIAL" announcement from UNT about a new stadium! I guess this is a "new" way to do things...let's build the stadium before we officially tell anyone we are building one so it will be a big surprise! Wow...imagine that logic???? Anyway, I am excited about this news...this is a great firm to be working with...cutting edge...great design work, etc., etc. VERY good news... Hey, the Denton Exes are having a Mixer at TJ Hartford's in Lewisville on Feb. 16th and RV is speaking at 1PM...do you think he might say something about the stadium project? Hope so, but probably would want a bigger platform to make the announcement official, but maybe we can ask him a question or two "on the side" about the stadium. Me thinks it's official anyway...what do you think? GREAT NEWS FOR THE MEAN GREEN. Good things are happening with both athletics and academics at UNT....get on MEAN GREEN BAND WAGON...Join the Exes...Join the Mean Green Club (yes, for some of you...get over it...and join! I did!)...but season tickets...donate to your college or UNT in general...rah, rah and all that..... It's a great time to be part of the Mean Green nation!

The College BB world will miss Coach Knight. I, for one, am sorry to see him go...yes, indeed, he had his "issues", but if I had a kid playing college BB I would love to see him play for Coach Knight...that way I know he would be in class ALL the time, would be on-time for practice, would be off the streets, would GRADUATE and would learn a little something about what it takes to be successful in life. The man was 'something else" for certain, but he can coach (CAN Coach) and he knows how to deal with prima donna college students! GOOD LUCK COACH KNIGHT....

ntsumgspe.... About that dallas Chapet...I believe there is a dallas Chapter. They had a small pre-game event before the SMU game this yeart that my wife and I attended briefly...looked more like a few friends getting together...nothing alerted us the the "Mean Green" pre-game party area, so we didn't stay long, but did see a few UNT shirts, caps on a few folks. But, as I said, i do think there is a Dallas Chapter.. I would recommend that you contact Rob McKineey, the Exes new Director of Chapter development...yes, indeed, the Exes now have a person responsible for Chapter development...that is good news...he can be reached at the Exes center...940-565-2834 or 1-800-UNT-1153. I am sure Rob would be happy to hear from you... You are more than welcome to come to the Denton Chapter event on the 16th at TJ Hartford's...ALL Mean Green EXES, current students and fans are more than welcome...the more the merrier! I hope to see you there on the 16th...by the way...Rob McKinney will be in attendance so you can meet him there. Hope to see you...and a lot more of the MEAN GREEN NATION on the 16th at TJ Hartford's in Lewisville. We owe Brian Gilmore...an UNT EX and Manager at TJ Hartford's a round of "thanks" for allowing us to use his restaurant for this event...great to see our Exes doing well and great to see them wanting to help out UNT.... GO MEAN GREEN...GO EXES!

Keep your fingers crossed for the best. We could sure use Dez down the stretch. Still cannot believe that NO FOUL was called on the play where he got injured. Is there no justice????
-
Had to be the BEST Super Bowl I have seen in a Looooooooooog time. Sure was nice to see "BeliCheat" and the Pats taken down by a very underratted Giants team. Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat Defense against the Pats last night. WOW...I have to wonder what it will be like next year in the NFL East. The East may be a Beast once again. Way to go Eli and the Giants....Little Brother makes it a double in the Manning household. Great to see...great family...great guys....I loved it! Now...let's see the Cowboys do it next year!
-
NICE...very nice.
-
So true about the bridge...I hate that thing! I have done the commute thing from Denton to DFW for about 30 years now...the bridge is just a mess many times, but it has gooten better since they added the third lane just north of the bridge...but, man...took me over 4 hours to get from LBJ and Midway to Denton a few weeks ago when the truck burned just south of the bridge and they closed 35 down! UGH! Let's hope for better luck Saturday with the traffic! GO MEAN GREEN!

I wish Coach mendoza nothing but success at Ceadr Hill. I would be that he and Coach Dodge still have a great relationship off the field. Hey, Coach Dodge gave him a shot at the college level...and, who knows...one day he will probably get another shot. I wish him the very best...and I think UNT will be very welcome at Cedar Hill. Coaches know how the carrer is for them...doors open and doors close....it is what you make of it...like most everything else in life. Things will turn out great for Coach mendoza if he moves on and keeps doing the best he can...I would suspect that you will see a good defense at Cedar Hill and Cedar Hill will be happy to have Coach mendoza. Folks...wish him well...say what you will...I am sure he tried his best at UNT...just probably wasn't ready for the college game...YET! There is plenty of time... Good Luck Coach Mendoza.

UNT Lifer....soccer wins the baseball vs soccer battle in a landslide going away! Great win last night at the Super Pit...check out my prediction again...I do think JJ had the men ready to play...but, the crowd was "sitting on their hands"...yes, even the Pit Crew for most of the game...maybe everyone was cold! Let's rock the PIT SATURDAY NIGHT! Be there...be loud...MEAN GREEN WIN AGAIN!!!!!!
-
Great game last night! Super win...but what a strange game. UNT "lost" every bounce and seemingly every off-rebound last night...they threw the ball away in some really "interesting" ways, and the 'bounds kept bouncing just short...I thought SA got every break...except for the refs who were whistle crazy and kept any tempo out of the entire game...bad job refs....in the first half. Also...the crowd was DEAD! I could not believe with SA in the house that the crowd was so dead. Even the Pit Crew...and they are absolutely THE BEST...did not get going really well until late in the second half. The whole crowd was really sitting on their hands last night...and they were a bit "late arriving" too. VERY INTERESTING...maybe it was the cold weather...who knows. BUT...the men hung in there...I think they were well prepared by JJ and his staff to handle this team...SA is bigger and it showed several times inside the paint..but, bigger isn't always better...and it wasn't last night. I cannot believe how STUPID SA was on the last play with UNT up 2 points! They looked as if they wanted to go for two and the tie...at least that's what I thoufght I saw the coach mentioning and jestering...but UNT's "D" kept them outside and they completely wasted a chance to win or tie with a brick thrown up in the last second as the clock ran out. Man, no summa cum laudes on that SA team it looks like! Close the whole game...really nice win for the men...women took it all the way in a blowout win to start the evening...way to go ladies! O.K., now let's get some rears in the seats for Saturday night. The teams...both of them...deserve more support than they got Thursday night from the home crowd...let's rock the joint Saturday night!!! See you there. Way to GO MEAN GREEN...super wins!
