  1. If you missed this Exes Mixer you missed a GREAT opportunity to hear RV and Derrick Morgan bring you up to date on the State Of Athletics and the State of the Exes at UNT. Wow, both are really on a positive upswing! GREAT things are happening at UNT and it is a great time to get re-connected or to increase your "connection" with UNT. The Exes are really working hard to develop new chapters and to bring alumni "back" to the University. The Exes can do a lot of great things, but they need the members to do it. It's hard to move forward if you can't show that your grads are interested in the Exes. I think Derrick said we had about 3000 or 5000 members (or something like that). Folks, a Univerity of UNT's size should have several times that number. Well, folks, the Exes ARE moving forward, Derrick, Susan, Rob, Lorrie and all the staff at the Exes Center are working very hard to "make it happen". If you are an EX you really need to join the Exes... If you are in the Dallas area, there will be a HAPPY HOUR from 6-8PM at BlackFinn Restaurant and Saloon on FEBRUARY 28th. BlackFinn is located at 4440 Belt L8ine Rd. in Addison...complimentart food buffett and $2 Miller Drafts and $3 drinks (not bad prices for Addison joints! ). So, if you are wondering what the Exes are up to....make the Happy Hour on the 28th. Questions? phone the Exes center at 940-565-3162 or email: alumni@unt.edu BUT, come on out and join the fun...The Exes are really making some positive progress and lots of great things are happening....see you at BlackFinn on the 28th!
  2. Welcome aborad...very glad to have you. By the way...have you joined the UNT Exes as yet? Lots of good things happening with the Exes these days...get involved...you will be glad you did. By the way, RV said that we need folks to buy season tickets! He said at the Exes Mixer last night that it is a GREAT way to show support for athletics and to help get folks who have the BIG BUCKS to donate to our stadium project. It is VERY IMPORTANT that we raise the number of season ticket holders...Football, Basketball, etc., etc. WELCOME...join the Exes, Join the Mean Green Club and Buy season tickets!
  3. CaribGreen...you got that right...the NFL is a 'Roid and HGH highlight film. But, it's professional baseball that is in the "eye of the storm" right now....Pro football will probably have it's day soon enough...all the "investigative reporters" will surely latch on to it soon. And, when that happens...no one will be happier than Major League baseball. It's a shame that this stuff gets down to the college, HS and Jr. High levels...but, if the pros do it, the kids will try it! Too bad...a real shame...the "results" and "effects" of this stuff will show up "later in life"...who do you think they all will want to sue then? It certainly will not have been "their fault", right?
  4. Yes, I do prefer HS and college baseball to the VERY boring professional game...but, given a choice between HS & College baseball or HS & College scoocer...I choose soccer every time. Beckham is an "aging" star....his injuries have slowed him a great deal...left foot is still deadly, but it's tough to use it when you are either on the bench or slow to get into position. So far, however, he is not being accused of trying to prolong or enhance his career with any 'Roids or HGH ala the "stars" of major league baseball. If he was still the super star he certainly once was, he would not be playing for the LA Galaxy. We'll see if he makes it back to the England team in this year's World Cup qualifying matches. That will probably tell us all we need to know about Beck's ankle and prospects for continuing his career. Anyway...It's just a "fun" discussion....if we were in Vegas...my money would go to baseball at UNT before we see men's soccer return. Too bad, but the "odds" favor baseball ocver soccer...bad call, but...more $$$ spent, more scholarships needed, more facilities to build...but, I digress and re-state the obvious. If UNT does add men's baseball, I'll be at the park watching from time to time....and thinking about how much more fun it would be to be watching men's soccer!
  5. Blue vs Red even in this???? Sorry, don't see it. The whole thing is a joke...now I read where RC may be offered immunity or something like that. Yep, let's see...a star player lies to Congress and then is offered immunity if he "comes clean". Pardon the pun on "coming clean" I am sure a "regular" Joe would get the same treatment....What a JOKE professional baseball has become!
  6. GREAT GUY...a true role model for young people. Deserved better from the Dolphins (but we do not know what went down in the meetings with him and the Dolphins reagarding his release), but is an example of how to carry yourself as a professional to everyone. Whatever he decides, I wish him nothing but the best...he has "earned it". Way to go, Zach...thanks for some GREAT football!
  7. Raise your hand if any of this surprises you...professional baseball, yep, that's America's sport alright...NOT!
  8. yyZ28...you want to start the baseball vs soccer thread/rants all over???? Geeeeezzzz...you will get UNTLifer all fired up again and he might start calling people names all over again!
  9. Yes, the women did have a couple of years that were better than the men...but, overall, look at the record over the last 19 years. It's just not the record that we need to review....it's all the "other" stuff that comes with being a head coach at a D-1 school...recruiting, community involvement, speaking at clubs and with organizations to "drum up" support for the program (both in $$$$ and rears in the seats), etc., etc. , etc. Don't get me wrong here, I am not "bashing" Tina S. I just think 19 years at one spot without some championships to show for it...well, that's really a good run ... hard to get such a run in D-1 anywhere else I would think. UNT has been good to Tina S. No hard feelings and no animosity here, but shouldn't the program be looking for championships out of its head coach? I think JJ and TD are "expected" to win championships in a reasonable amount of time (JJ has)...why not the ladies???? Just thinking out loud.
  10. Congress is acting like star struck fans.....but, what do you expect from that bunch? They can't get along long enough to pass any meaningful legislation unless it has their own persona "earmarks" all over it. Shameful...just shameful the whole thing! Get a life Congress and get back to work on real issues confronting this great nation of ours!
  11. I still wonder what the NCAA will do about all this...they seem to have been a bit quiet...no, the death penalty will not even be considered, but this is flat out wrong and the cheating needs to stop. Perhaps this indicates that "big time" college athletics needs to take a breath and think more about "student athletes" and a little less about folks who can't pass even basic courses without "help"...you know, there is some pretty darn good foootball, BB, Soccer,Lacrosse, Baseball, etc.,etc. being played at places like Navy, Duke, Rice, Notre Dame, Army, Yale, Brown, etc., etc., etc. You do not have to recruit "bandits", lawbreakers, poor students and just down right "bad cahracters" to have agood student athletic program. Maybe if we didn't fire coaches for every losing season, lowered a few salaries in the coaching ranks and had less pressure on the money side, we could get back to real student centered sports on the college level. Those DIII football playoff games on TV every year are pretty darn entertaining and the football played is quality stuff. But, I dream..............
  12. Baz...also a great kid is working for PointBank in denton and about to get married...or recently has married...cannot remember exactly which on the marriage thing...great lady he is marrying too, but you would have figured that if you know anything at all about Baz...another great kid...do you think it has to do with being a kicker? These guys get very little respect as football players, but often have the most pressure and least "job stability". Anyway, last I knew of Baz he was starting his career in banking and doing great!
  13. GREAT to have the good news about jason confirmed...now I can start looking for his stas on the Cleveland site once the season starts...Clevelend plays in dallas this year...we should get a big group of Mean Green fans and go to the game. What say you???? Who's in??? That is, of course, assuming Jason is playing for Cleveland at the time....if the team is smart...he will be! GO JASON BALL #7 in your program, but #1 in the "good guy" book! Saw him play in Colorado last year...he stayed on the field after the game for what seemed like forever signing autographs for the hoard of kids who descended upon the field after the game. They had to run him and the kids off the field..this all the while his wife (and my wife and I) were waiting for him after the game. The kid knows what's right and he does it....all the luck in the world to Jason ball. keep that "kicking" dream alive.
  14. Nice to see all the "seriousness" going on....really, has anyone else heard anything about Jason's possible signing with Cleveland?
  15. I heard that Ex-UNT Kicker Jason Ball has signed to play with the Cleveland team in Arena Ball. He was the kicker for the Denver/Colorado Crush team last year and did a great job, but kickers in the Arena League have short "life spans". Seems Colorado re-signed a kicker they had before Jason who came back from an injury...thus the need to "move" Jason. Has anyone else heard about this? Let's hope it's true...Jason Ball is both a good kicker and a great guy!
  16. The whole thing is crazy...RC is making a fool out of himself...he's like a little kid who got caught red handed stealing cookies who just keeps denying and denying it...no facts, just "not me". This whole thing just is crazy..."Roids and HGH are a big part of professional sports of all kinds...perhaps college and HS as well. It needs to stop...not from a competitive standpoint, but from a health standpoint. The damage WILL show up down the road in a few years...if not sooner. Get real about policing your own sports...owners, league offices and even fans...time to come clean...for lots of reasons...not the laest of which is to get the friggin' Congress out of the picture. They screw up just about everything they touch!
  17. It's time for a change if we really want to upgrade the program...19 years without anything to show for it is really "pushing the envelope". But, it might say something about how the University and the Athletic Dept. view women's sports in general. Hmmmmmm...that might be a topic for another discussion altogether. Women's sports bring in ZERO $$$$$ to the program, but we all know about Title IX and all that....if we had a winning women's BB team to "anchor" the women's sports program, the we might just see some real interest develop. Some of our women's teams are VERY VERY GOOD...ie: tennis, soccer, etc....and softball seems to be on an upswing...so, let's see what would happen if we had a dynamo for a head women's BB coach...a real recruiter and someone determined to improve the program. With our new Prez...I'll bet the athletic dept. would be willing to upgrade the program...what say you?
  18. I hope to see lots of you at the Exes Mixer Saturday. Start time is Noon and will run until about 5PM when, hopefully, everyone will head to the UNT Basketball games at the Super Pit that evening...GO MEAN GREEN...GO EXES...everyone is welcome....it's a "come and go" deal, so don't think you have to stay all day...BUT, we'd love to have you stay all day! Lots of good...and inexpensive...adult beverages and great food...so...come on by and be part of the Mean Green Nation. Oh, in case you didn't know...if you don't want adult beverages, they have plenty of soft drinks available!
  19. Did a bunch of skydiving in my "yonger years"...there is absolutely nothing like the rush you get from jumping out of a perfectly good airplane...the "stuff" on this thread is amazing! Don't know if I'd have tried it or not during my skydiving days. WOW!
  20. Just one more reason to love professional baseball...NOT! Baseball at the HS and college level is as good as it gets, and folks who read this board often probably know where I stand on the baseball thing....Let me ask a serious question, however...WHY IN THE SAM HILL IS CONGRESS INVOLVED IN THIS BB MESS ANYWAY?????? From where I sit, Congress has quite a few OTHER more pressing issues than a bunch of grown men (physically grown, the jury is out on just how many have mentally grown up) shooting themselves up with HGH and 'roids. Let's get on with the business of governing this nation...let's leave the drup stuff to the commissioner, players, etc., etc. Give this a rest...Roger C. and the rest of them are just making themselves and pro baseball in general look pretty silly!
  21. So, answer me this...will Tina S be UNT's women's coach next season? How long has she been here vs how many championships?????? Just wondering because it is getting to be "that time"!
  22. Yea, I played baseball for 18 years too....I actually love to play the game...played some rec baseball (and rec softball) after HS and in the service for several years too...I just can't stand to watch the game...But, let's be honest here...if UNT had a team, I'd be out there watching...at least for a few innings.
  23. Folks, when you need a firefighter or a policeman, my guess is, you don't a "rat's rear end" what color or sex the person might be! God bless all our firefighters and policemen who serve and defend us every single day. That goes for our service men and women too....God bless them one and all!
  24. Lifer...lots of things don't make sense. Like why anyone would support Hillary Clinton for President, but that's another subject for another time and place. I am sure there is an answer for the "playing field" size question somewhere in the history of the game, but it is interesting and it does add to the "flavor" of the game...better learn to play on all sizes of fields...UNT has struggled on the larger fields...the better question might be, how can UNT overcome that issue? JH needs to find a way or the team will continue to be hurt on the larger fields. For me...it makes the game even that much more interesting. For some, who can't see the beauty in the game, well...why even get into that discussion?
  25. Patrick Cobbs can play in the NFL. Hang in there Patrick. GO MEAN GREEN!
