  1. UNT will go 6-6 or better next year...some great thoughts posted on this thread...nicely done..especially the part about winning tonight and heading to Mobile....I think both Dodge and DeLoach find ways to "fix" some "cahllenges" from last season, and we see nice upside this year...6-6 will not get us to a bowl, but that WILL COME under Coach Dodge! You gotta BELIEVE! GO MEAN GREEN!
  2. O.K., I wanted to throw this out and see how it goes....Ex-UNT Kicker jason ball now kicks for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football Leagure...Cleveland plays Dallas in Dallas on April 5th (Saturday) at 7PM at American Airlines Arena. I have been talking with the Dallas folks and they have some nice packages for groups...even to include a room that we could have before the game...a cash bar if we wanted, etc., etc. They would even help with the PR with a little flyer...and the ticket prices would be very nice...room would be in the price of the ticket. We would need at least 50 people to make this work. But, when you think about it, 50 is not THAT many if you count Moms, Dad and kids! Arena Football is a FAMILY FRIENDLY atmosphere these days...in addition, the Dallas folks told us that if we do this we could have access to the field after the game and the kids could get player autographs, etc. I went to a game to watch Jason last year in Denver (he played for Denver last season) and it was great to see all the kids and families on the field after the game....players stayed out for what seemed forever to sign autographs...I know asI was waiting on Jason to finish so we could go to dinner!!!!! Would there be any interest in this sort of thing if I were able tyo get it together? I would need some show of interest so i would know if the ticket numbers were there to make it worthwhile. My wife and I are going to the game anyway, but thought it would be a great time to get some of the Mean Green Nation together for a taste of some football and to support a good kid and UNT Alum. What do you think? Anyone up for it? How many tickets? You can respond here or you can send me a private message...LIke I said I am just looking for a number here...you do not have to buy tickets at this time. I did talk with Jason yesterday...he had a great opening day game (including 2 field goals...and, if you know Arena Ball...that ain't easy!) in Cleveland's opening game win over NY...said several local folks want to attend the Dallas game...could be fun and a nice MEAN GREEN NATION "activity"....what say you?
  3. Saw the article...was glad to see she is a UNT signee...you can ALWAYS use a good keeper and at 5' 11" that is a plus when it comes to the ladies. A little short for the men, but this is a great signing for the Mean Green. UNT seems to always come up with good keepers and this just ecxtends the line...of course, I am partial to keepers! GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Soccer pitches are not 2.5X the size of football fields....the laws of the game allow for some variation in size, but having been to more soccer games that I could ever count (youth, college, HS, professional, world cup, etc., etc.) I do not rcall seeing one 2.5X the size of a football field. Will soccer (football) ever catch on in the US like American football has? Probably not. So far, as a general rule (and as this board generally supports) Americans don't get it! Does anyone here recall the North American Soccer League? Well, that was my firsat introduction to soccer...went to Owenby Stadium one day to watch my first soccer game....it was a date, and not MY selection as something to do...BUT....I went. I SWORE I would NEVER attend another soccer game in my life after getting away from that event...and it had nothing to do with my date at the time. She was the only good thing about the game! Well, funny how things work out in life...I ended up marrying that lady...we have been married now almost 30 years...and I have become a BIG soccer fan. Kids played it, and I got involved...I have been a ref now for over 20 years...and had one son play all the way through college. So, now you know where I come from with soccer...played a little along the way, but was a bit "old" to have much of a career as a player...that and not being very good at it! So, in time, even the US might "come around" to the "beautiful game" and the world's most popular sport...but, probably not in my lifetime. Did you just love beer the first time you had a sip????? For most it is an "acquired" taste...thank God for that!...well, maybe soccer in America is a bit like that...also...as more and more of our youth grow up with soccer, we will definitely see more and more interest...most parents have still not played the game to any extent here in the US...that is changing...and pretty rapidly. So, don't count it out as moving into the top 3 or 4 sports in the US...baseball is losing participants from some of its historical base...you just never know. But, give me 90 minutes of continuous action as opposed to about 10-12 min. of action in a football game and probably less than that in a 3 1/2 - 4 hr. baseball game. You buy your tickets, you watch what you like...there is plenty of room for everyone and every sport...hey, ever try luge???? fast and fun! Some folks swear by it!
  5. Way to go ladies! Nicely done! Two shutouts...14-0 and 7-0...nice job scoring! AND...hats off to the crowd...good to see it!
  6. Tough to beat a team 3 times in one year...assk the Dallas Cowboys about that! But, I think if we come out strong and jump on them fast we will get into their heads and it could be over by halftime...they could do one of those..."here we go again things" in their heads if we don't "let 'em up early"...I'll be there...bought my tickets (2) on line last evening! See you at the PIT Wednesday.
  7. BUMP...don't forget to vote! This is more important than tomorrow's primary voting! Ha!
  8. PUT me down as a "NO"...I think we have better talented QB's on the roster right now and we have more coming. We do not need this type of problem...and Justin would definitely be a problem. NOPE....NO WAY.
  9. 49-28...LOVE IT! My exact point about soccer scores!!!!! It's a hoot...PRICELESS!
  10. Just voted for Scrappy...SCRAPPY FOR PRESIDENT!
  11. "Ain't it Great" .... Do you think this is why each sport/game has its own following? BTW...used to do the Yellow Belly Raceway thing all the time...drove a few times too...fun to drive...boring to watch...like horse racing...1 min. of racing in between 45-1hr. of pure boredom....done some motocross in my time too...amateur stuff...not good at all...the 12 year old kids ate my lunch! For participation sports...I like skydiving! Done quite a bit of that...is it a sport? I think it is....not much of a spectator sport though I would think. So...folks...do your lists again... One for spectator sports and one for participation sports. If yiou were participating in the event what does your list look like as opposed to if you were watching...how about one for TV watching and one for "in-person" watching? Hey, it's not football season and a bunch of you are bored so...go for the list thing...
  12. WOW...but, this sort of thing was going to happen with a new coach...probably saw a "gifted" athlete...but one of perhaps questionalble character who did not "fit" the system Jones wanted to employ...so, out the door...if Mr. Willis had been a model student and athlete, he may have gotten every chance to succeed at SMU, but when you "decide" to be a distraction, and make very questionable personal decisions...well....see ya!
  13. yyz28....interesting points you make...don't agree, but interesting points. I think it just shows how varied folks opinions are about various sports. You fail to even mention numerous sports/games, etc. Your lists of sports in oredr of preference make me wonder what your reference is other than personal preference...AND, that's what it is all about...personal preference....me, I put soccer way up on the list..."watching grass grow" is baseball for me...along with drag racing and NASCAR, fishing, poker, etc., etc. For me, there is nothing much exciting about watching some person drive fast for 1/4 mile...big deal...I do that every day driving back to Denton from Dallas after work...and turning left all day like NASCAR...no way that's exciting...BUT, there are legions upon legions of NASCAR fans who would certainly take me to "task" for that comment. Good for them...go for it? Ever been to a callege wrestling match? Me either until I went to grad school at Okie State. Had to be "paid" to attend my first match...but did not miss one after my first! Haven't been to a match since I left Okie State, but sure would be more fun for me than a hockey game. You like your sports/games...I like mine...that's what makes the world go around. ENJOY! So, there you have it, sports fans, tune in your favorite sport or buy a ticket and go...just make sure the beer is cold!
  14. NICE! Was he taller in High School???
  15. VOTED...have you cast your vote for Scrappy today? I hear that he is out making promises that if he is elected he will do all kinds of "stuff" without a clue as to how to pay for them!!!! GO SCRAPPY...SCRAPPY FOR PRESIDENT!
  16. Adman...you should go back and read some of my posting regarding the soccer vs baseball stuff on this site...I have made the same "argument" about goals and scores over and over for more than 25 years...if soccer goals counted 7 points (as one TD in football does...can anyone tell me why that is the case????) then NO ONE would be talking about low scoring soccer games any longer. I guess the same goes for hockey...see Adman says a three goal game is high scoring...I tend to agree, but the football folks will not because they see 21 points! Ha...go figure! Welcome to the "rational club" Adman...hope you enjoy the frustration of folks saying "low scoring" game in reference to hockey. Welcome aboard! We should never confuse folks with the facts!
  17. Did in no way take it as a slam on the players...I was just commenting that I thought our team had the players to get the job done....I echo your thoughts on our once proud golf tradition at UNT. Let's bring it back!!!!! It can and SHOULD happen! Go UNT...GO GOLF...
  18. Nice job Collin Dennis...great to see you and UNT getting some good publicity!!!!! Super job...peaking at the correct time for a run through the conference tourney! GO MEAN GREEN!
  19. I thought someone said the facemask was part of the helment???? The picture looks like it is not actually a pert of the helment....BUT, the thing does look great!
  20. UNTLifer...interesting thought "soccer on ice"...Hmmmmmmm...perhaps you have a point....but, I do not haer folks crying that hockey is so low scoring that they do not like it....so, what's the difference there???? I do see lots of 1-0, 0-0 (OT), 2-1, etc., etc. hockey scores. My "challenge" with hockey is that it does not at all translate to a TV sport...it is fun to watch only in person...and I can't get to or afford many Stars games. Without the big TV money, seat prices are pretty stiff for me if you want to be in good seats near the action and not up in the nosebleed section. Plus, did not grow up with hockey...a Texan by birth....and none of my kids played hockey, so have not been that exposed to it. But, I do enjoy a good fight...oops, I mean Hockey Game, when I get the chance. And the players seem like professionals both on and off the ice....mostly good guys...even if one can't pronounce more than about a third of their names!
  21. It really is too bad...the members of the team are really VERY good golfers and definitely have the talent to compete for championships. So, why not? Good question...is it the coach???? Is it the facilities...or lack thereof....is it the players themselves? Don't know...BUT, I do know that golf at UNT was once a big time winning program. Perhaps the AD needs to take a look and see if we couldn't figure out "what's up" with golf at UNT. Seems the tennis program has "righted the ship". Same can happen with golf...UNT COULD definitely be a prime golf program..... Don't "give up the ship" on the golf team...the players have all the ability to win....GO GOLF!!!!!
  22. BUMP...Keep it going. Anyone know when the voting ends and when the results might be posted? Yes, I am too lazy to read through the thing...if it is even on the site...thought some else might have taken the time...YES? No?
  23. At the end of the day it is a "costly" move not only in dollars tied up in one guy, but in trading away Smith...BUT, if the wins come and the Cup returns to Dallas...all is well. I think this will turn out to be a good move for the Stars....
  24. No one thought the "New" plastic helments that replaced leather looked "good" either...as I recall, facemasks were not thought to be "cool" at first either...like the helment in ice hockey...took awhile for the players and fans to warm up to that...hey, even some of the rodeo folks are wearing helments these days...not pretty ones either! So, what am I saying....well, if this helment gets going, folks will just come to see it as the "normal" football helment and all will be well again! Change is really tough for some folks...and sports fans are the most "traditional" they come...hey... what would happen if all the NASCAR guys learned to turn right instead of left?????????
  25. What Master's Degrees do "all" the people in athletics have that isn't offered at UNT? Just wondering??????? Quoner, I think that was your post...can you enlighten me about the master's degree thing?
