  1. I guess I missed the post...did the person who asked about an Exes Float in the homeciomming parade see the parade last year???? I did the Exes were represented! It is not for the Denton Chapter to put a float together for the parade...it is for the "Exes" to put a float together...the Denton Chapter will certainly help with time and talent....do I see a show of hands of others who will help?????
  2. Did some of you folks not see Vizza play last season? This kid is G-O-O-D and will only get better. I am still with the "camp" who think Riley might redshirt....if not, I am not too sure he would be able to "beat" Riley out for the starting job. Coach Dodge is not only a great coach, he is a man of character. He will start the best QB for the team and for its best chance of winning. The guy's job is to win football games at UNT...he will do that, he will do that while helping to build a positive environment around his program, while he helps his players graduate and as he selects the best players to put the team in a position to win week in and week out. Enough of this thought that Riley plays just because he is Coach Dodge's son...that is NOT FAIR to Vizza AND it is not fair to Riley...If Riley starts he will have WON the position on the field not because of his "blood line". As for Chase Wasson being pro-Riley......the head coach is Todd Dodge, not Chase Wasson. Chase will be a great addition to the staff and should relate very well to the players...he, too, appears to be a young man with character and a good bit of football know-how....he will also "do the right thing" for the team..... Good hire....GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. Too bad this type of rethoric is spewed anywhere or anytime. For the life of me I cannot find an instance where I would condider that sort of rethoric beneficial. I personally think TCU should forget the presentation....if George Bush had made similar statements...taken out of context or not...I wonder what the press would be saying...not to mention Mr. Obama and Ms Clinton! Think GW would get a "pass" from the majority of the media and be invited to receive an award at a divinity school? Just wondering.....
  4. All it takes is time, $$$$ and talent. It can happen....talk to the Exes and see if you can't vaolunteer to be part of an active Dallas Chapter and get a float going for next year's parade. I am 100% sure you will find lots of Dallas area Exes who are willing to give their time and talent to help. It would be great fun...have you looked into the costs and registration guidelines? You might want to start there as things can get a bit more complicated than they first seem when you think something is a good idea for someone else to do. Trust me on that...I wanted to organize a St. Pat's 5K run on the campus (official route, USTF certified, etc.) to raise scholarship dollars...worked for several months and spent a couple of hundred bucks of my personal $$$$ checking eveything out...just to find too many barriers...I am still convinced such an event can happen...I'll just have to work on it a bit longer to bring it to reality...By the way...the Denton Exes were happy to help sponsor and work the event! Good luck with that parade .... I think it's a great idea.....grab some volunteers willing to actually work and go for it. GREAT FUN...GREAT IDEA!
  5. You should really take a look...what you want is already happening...and has been for some time now.....WELCOME ABOARD...the Exes will certainly welcome and appreciate your active participation. It takes lots of folks who are willing to give of their time, talent and $$$$$ to make it happen. Glad to have you.....WELCOME!
  6. Can anyone spell "stupid" idea???????? Just what is this great nation of ours starting to become?????? This is the top of the heap in PC'ness gone way too far! Habla English??????? Why should I? It's only the good ole PC US of A. Let's make any language we feel like it the "official" language...the citizens don't care, obviously! I am going to Estonia this summer...I am sure all the official governemnet documents are in English so I can read them and I am sure all the police and fire officials speak English. If this wasn't so true, I would laugh...as it is...I think I will throw up!
  7. I agree with the "put up or shut up" comments...it gets a bit "old and tiring" hearing folks talk about "someone else" getting out and doing something. If you are a grad of UNT..why don't you join the Exes and get involved? If a float in the St. Pat's Day parade is "your thing", and you think the Exes should be involved...volunteer your time and talent and organizational skills and money raising talents and get it on! First, be sure and join the Exes. It might make your voice a little easier to hear if you are at least a member! I know you would get some volunteers to help...there arte plenty on GMG.com who have lots of opinions...i am sure they will want to actually step up and volunteer. Lots of Exes in Dallas...get involved with the Dallas Chapter and make it the Chapter's signature event. It's green...it would be great! Join up...then volunteer...then go for it! Sounds like a great idea!
  8. DallsGreen...SAD VERY SAD that you feel you had to post such a "bunch of pity party"! No class at all...why hammer UTA for going to the Dance??? I say, way to go UTA...nice job...I will hope beyond hope that UTA beats Memphis. I am sorry some folks just have to be so negative. UTA had a great year...I do recall they beat UNT on "the stage"....as UNT fans, we should wish them well and congratulations on a nice season. SO>>>>> Congratulations on a NIce Sean, Mavs and good luck at THE DANCE. I'll be pulling for a MAVS win!
  9. Still time to get your tickets...call Justin Jordan at the Desperados....
  10. Greenjoe...what do you mean "when you are an old man"...you ARE an old man! O.K., that's not quite right coming from someone even older...now is it? Just couldn't resist! I stand ready to catch the flack I deserve for this nasty comment!
  11. YIPPEE!!!!! Go Mean Green! When you have made Drug Emporium you have made the "big time"! Good to see the Mean Green Nation getting some "stuff" in the stores...any stores, any where...thanks Greenjoe for letting us know!
  12. BUMP...anyone interested in attending? Should be fun!
  13. The discount tickets are for certain sections, but if you called Justin Jordan at the number provided and told him you wanted an "upgrade" to a different section as part of the UNT Exes/Jason ball event he just might work something out for you. I have found Justin to be VERY accomodating...I think he's a UNT Alum/Ex. I hope to see you at the event.
  14. As long as people "put their checkbooks away" because they are looking for any reason to do just that UNT will never be known as more than a "commuter" school. The alumni of UNT...and Mean Green Nation family and friends...need to start looking for ways to get involved and get active in the Exes and the academic side and the athletic side at UNT. Too many people just like to find ways to be negative about "their" school because of some perceived slight, some REAL slight or some other thing they don't like. I am sorry, but, folks, get over it!!!! UNT is YOUR sschhol...you need to support it with your time, talent and money if you really want it to be all it can and should be. It is definitely moving upward and forward...look around...tons of good things going on...yes, even at the Exes...but instead of focusing on the positives...someone wants to use a "commuter" comment as a reason to "put away the checkbook". SAD...VERY SAD...and VERY MISGUIDED. The way you cahnge that is to get involved with yout time, talent and money. Bitching never changed anything! But, being part of the solution does...the challenge is....do you want to be part of helping things change for the better or do you want to sit back and complain when someone does something you don't like or says something you think is "offensive"? Like I said...it is YOUR school...you make the call, because you can and you have every "right" to do as you please...no problem for me...but it does get a bit "old" to keep hearing people's excuses as to why they won't join the Exes or the Mean Green Club or buy tickets or support their academic programs with scholarship dollars, etc., etc. By the way...were you part of the crowd of about 250 at the Exes event in Dallas recently at BlackFinn????? I was...great evening...crowded...the folks at BlackFinn are begging the Exes to come back because so many people turned out...there is also a restaurant in Highland Village that wants the Exes tio stage and event there because of the folks that turnout! Hey, good things are happening...come and be part of it. By the way...it is time for the Denton Chapter to elect new officers and board members....ARE YOU INTERESTED???? I know it's easier to just post here on GMG.com, but, if you really want to try your hand at making things better...why not step up and help. Send me a PM if you are interested and I'll get back with you. Election is in April. Also, the Denton Chapter is hosting a FAMILY PICNIC and Exes Center Open House on Sat. April 26th from noon to 3PM....come ji=oin the fun! You might find that you like some of what you see! I'd bet you will and you and your family will be VERY welcome! O.K., am I now officially off my soapbox for the day! Bye...for now!
  15. O.K. GMG'ers...The UNT Exes are helping to host a Meet and Greet at the April 5th Cleveland Gladiators vs. Dallas Desperados Arena League Football game in Dallas at American Airlines Arena. The game kicks-off at 7PM. The Exes will have a room (The Miller Lite Room) available to use starting at 5PM...a cash bar will be available. Tickets for the event are at two price levels (both are 50% off their regular prices). The is a $15.00 and a $24.00 ticket available. To get the Exes/UNT pricing you need to contact Justin Jordan with the Dallas Desperados at 972-785-4831 and thell him you are with the UNT Exes/Jason Ball Group. Jason now kicks for the Cleveland Gladiators, and this is the only game they will play in Dallas this year. These Arena League games are fun and very family friendly. If you are interested in joing the Exes and friends of Jason for this event...just call Justin at the number above. All MEAN GREEN fans and friends are welcome...you do not have to be a UNT Ex...the Exes are simply helping to sponsor this event. Question? Send me a PM or just call Justin direct at the number above. GET YOUR OFF-SEASON FOOTBALL FIX...even before the UNT Spring game on the 12th. GO EXES ... GO MEAN GREEN
  16. Agreed...it is a bit of a "learning curve" to figure out the "correct" way to say things....One thing we do not need is anyone in ANY position with the University that thinks of UNT as it once was...UNT IS NOT a small "teacher's college" with a majority commuter base any longer...long gone...let's hope everyone realizes that ASAP...and that folks will recognize UNT for what it is...a Research University...third largest in the state and growing.... GO MEAN GREEN...GO EXES! Speaking of the Exes...anyone interested in helping the Exes raise scholarship dollars for UNT students????? $10 each or three for $25 will get you chances to win some great prizes...such as a trip to Hawaii including airfare and hotel....come GMG'ers...get those checkbooks out...send me a private message if you are interested and I'll tell you how we can exchance the tickets and the check! Come on....it's for a GREAT cause, and we need the scholarship dollars...the endowmwnt at UNT is quite low for such a big school, so the availablity of scholarship dollars is not what it should be for UNT...let's help fix that!
  17. Yep! Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying.
  18. If you do not think our new Exes Executive Director takes his job seriously, then, in my opinion, you simply have not been around him enough as yet. He came to UNT late last summer and found himself with one full-time staff member and a couple of student part-timers. Since that time he has hired a staff, made NUMEROUS contacts with students, faculty and alumni in many areas, has worked to generate new interest in existing chapters and worked to create new cahpter development interest. He has seen to it that the Denton Chapter has resources and support, has stagged the first Exes Mixer in Dallas ( a pretty darn successful one too!) that I can recall in a number of years (sponsored by the "main" Exes), et., etc., etc. I can verify that he is in no way "sitting around"...he is out trying to get the job done. I am not sure about the "commuters" comment...I either did not hear it in the way you did, or did not see it as a "big thing" based on the whole of his comments made at the Mixer...the fact that he was there on a terrible day (weather-wise) was a good thing in my book. I am not trying to "defend" our Director, he can do that for himself...if he needs too. At this point in his tenure I think he needs our support and positive feedback, and we should all reserve "judgements" for a bit down the road. You do recall our last Executive Director, don't you????? If you have need to "chat" with Derrick about anything...including his commuter comments...I recommend that you give him a call. I have found him very open to feedback and suggestions....AND, I know the comments here about the "commuter-thing" come from great supporters of UNT and the Exes...so, your support is appreciated...give Derrick a call if you have questions/comments as he is looking for folks who want to step-up and take on a leadership riole in trying to build the UNT Exes program into one of the best in the country. GO MEAN GREEN...GO EXES!!!!!
  19. Happy Birthday, Playmake...I hope you have many many more...all revolving around a UNT win!
  20. I hope everyone voting for the Mavs knows something I don't, but if they do win it they had better figure out how to beat the good teams on the road and figure it out FAST before they get a seeding so bad that the climb up and out will be all but impossible! I have my fingers crossed for the "home team", but, Man, they need to kick it in high gear soon! In case they didn't realize it...not all the playoff games are played in Dallas!
  21. Golf courses cost LOTS and LOTS of $$$ to develop and maintain even if the land is donated. If you do it right, however...take a look at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, OK for an example, you can make a somewhat profitable venture out of it. But, OSU does have a great golf tradition...in fact their golf coach (Mike Holder became the AD at OSU...how about that for a golf coach???), sees golf as a great way to attract attention and students and goodwill, etc., etc. UNT can (and at one time DID) develop the same "tradition" in golf and attract the top area players...just as OSU does year in and year out, but it does take some focus...it can't be an "afterthought" in the AD's plans and budgets. At UNT there are "bigger fish to fry" right now with the new stadium, attracting more "rears" in the seats for the revenue sports of football and basketball, developing the softball program and on and on. I think Golf will see it's day at UNT once again...I did hear there are plans for a new housing development in Denton that will include a golf course...I hope that is "more than hope" because UNT could use it as a "home course" perhaps and stop traveling to Trophy Club....anyway...time will tell, but golf acn and will be great at UNT once again! GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. NICE...VERY NICE!
  23. GReat fun...decent crowd...4600+ is "not bad", and those there were pretty vocal...The Pit Crew was great...as usual...BUT...how can we only draw 4600+ out of a school of 30,000+ to a nice arena for a TOURNAMENT GAME?????? What's with that? This team has had a nice run...another 20 win season and I think UNT has a decent shot at another Sunbelt Championship and NCAA trip...It "ain't over until its over" and I do not think this team is DONE YET! Great to see Howerton's Dunk...a highlight for the evening...Pit crew went NUTS! As Mean Green fans we need to do all we can to help get more "rears in the seats" for BOTH football and BB...and soccer and softball and volleyball, etc., etc.,. etc. BTW...Coach Dodge was at the game..he sat by himself and stayed the game...I had a nice chat with him...he's fired up about the start of spring training...should be fun! Thanks to all who attended the game...and thanks to those who really would have been there if they could have....there can be times when one just cannot make it...that is 100% understandable...but for the 1000's of students on campus...What's up with you? I love seeing the Pit Crew come out...these kids are great! And, they are going to remember their college days at the Pit. Belive me, you will get older and think about those "good times" as an undergrad! GREAT GAME...way to go Men...and, hey, let's not forget about the blowout win by the ladies either! Way to go to both teams! Good luck in Mobile! As the "great drex" said..."LET'S GO DANCING"!!!!!!!!
  24. All this "chit chat" is nice, but no one answered my question...anyone interested in getting a group together for the game on April 5th? I think it would be fun to get a group together, get a meeting room before the game and have some fun as part of the Mean Green nation...and watch Jason Ball play. This Arena League stuff is fun in person...really family friendly too! So, any takers?
  25. It is obvious that there is an "age gap" on this board with so few votes for Johnny Unitas...most folks probably were not even born when Johnny was playing, but if you were around and old enough to "know" football at the time...Johnny U was GREAT! Y A Title wasn't bad either...nor Blanda...nor Len Dawson...but, I digress! You couldn't go wrong with any name on the list! You pick 'em...they are all winners! And, some that aren't on the list too!
