  1. Saw we had 3100+ at the spring game this year...down from last year, but, all in all, a nice crowd on a windy cool spring day in Denton. With the game not really being promoted it was good to see the crowd. BTW, Okie State had 20,000+ on the same day, and I hear ZERO U had 23,000...a little more than we had, but we are making progress...OH, yes, OSU had a spirit band, dance team members and lots of "stuff" going on around the game. Lots of student involvement...did not see much student involvement at Saturday's Green-White game. maybe next year as we continue to move "up" to not only being, but acting like a "big time" program. My wife and I had a great time at the game Saturday...Hope you were there...too bad if you couldn't make it. GO MEAN GREEN....Hey, even the Prez was there along with, of course Rick V and his team...and, yes, the Exes Director was there along with his wife and members of the Exes staff. Good to see...good to see. GO MEAN GREEN...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...JOIN THE EXES!
  2. Just shows you need to recruit for "character" as well as athletic ability...SAD...very SAD. Yes, running with the wrong crowd can get you in trouble, but not having the character to say "NO WAY" gets you in even deeper trouble on so many levels. Man, what a waste!
  3. My tickets are in D but I donate well above the $500 level anyway..part of being with the Mean Green nation is support it's move up and to bigger and better. I see the "donations" as a normal progression to the "big time". Sure, I'd rather get in free, but that just isn't the way it is..The seats in D&F are fine seats...hey, we paid more to sit in the end zone at OU. So, if you are not crazy about the $500 to sit on the 50, just hang around awhile and you can really cry when that goes up to what other "big time" programs charge you to sit close enough to trow a rock and hit the 50! You just have to do it...folks sit here and scream about a new stadium, then they get "huffy" and run away mad when they are asked to help foot the bill...even at a low $500 level. It will take lots a=of $500 donations to get any ground broken on a new stadium!!!! If you don't want to pony up for the $500 to sit on the 50...fine, no problem...but, please...stop the "it's not fair" stuff...if life was fair gas would be 35 cents a gallon! By the way...when I was an undergrad at UNT...I pumped gas at a place on University called TexGas for 10 cents per gallon during a local gas war at one time...worked at Buddies Hardware store and TexGas to earn cash while an undergrad at UNT. Man...can you believe it...10 cents per gallon...no lie! GO MEAN GREEN...JOIN THE EXES...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...Help UNT build that new stadium! You gotta believe!
  4. We'll see...
  5. No, I don't hate pro sports because of the money...I dislike what the money does to some of the folks involved....Coaching is a tough profession...you win it all one year and every one loves you...big raise...new contarct...then have a bad next year and they run you out of town on a rail (probably with a nice bit of $$$$, however). If Self was not an OSU grad, I would see no reason that he should or would consider leaving KU...regardless of the money...but ties to your school are strong...at least they should be...hint to some of our Mean Green grads....and with Self having played at OSU and his wife having been an OSU cheerleader, there are very strong ties to OSU. Yes, money talks...but in this case...there are "other" considerations...it is not a Roy "it's all about the money" Williams sort of thing. At least not in my mind....maybe a small difference to some, but a difference none the less.
  6. I hope the Stars win, but cannot get excited about hockey games that start so late in the evning on the west coast...O.K., I really can't get excited about hockey games that start at anytime...not my "thing". Did you see that the Stars game where they clinched the playoff spot was the lowest rated sports show on TV that day/ I think ice skating beat it out. What's up with that if hockey is such a big deal around here? Go figure! At this point I say...GO STARS!!!!!!
  7. As an OSU grad...yes, I graduated from OSU and UNT....And, yes, I was cheering for UNT to beat OSU this year at the Super Pit! I hope Self goes to Stillwater. OSU IS a big-time basketball school, and Self has a great deal of loyalty toward OSU...my guess is that he would not be wearing a Kansas sweater at a final 4 if OSU was in it and he was coaching at OSU...but, I digress....Lots of money will be offered to try to get him to "come home" to OSU, but I think the jury is out...he won it all at KU...what do you do for an encore there????Hard to win it back to back....Florida did it recently, but it darn hard to do....and, he may perceive a challenge to bring OSU back to the final 4...who knows, but the $$$$$ will talk long and hard. Self is currently negotiating a new deal at KU and the KU boosters are adding up big $$$$ to keep him there... Should be interesting...we'll see!
  8. I'm in...see you Saturday at Fouts. I hope we see a bigger crowd than last year....it would show that some of the gains in attendance and support we have seen recently are "sticking"...and, that, fellow Mean Green Nation members, is a VERY good thing! GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. GREAT GAME last night...you have to hand it to KU for the comeback! Nice job KU...NOW...let's see if Oklahoma Sate and Boone Pickens can pay Self enough $$$$ to be the Cowboys next coach! Just wondering........................
  10. My question...can Liberman recruit and does she have the "want too" to go on the road and all over creation to talk UNT Women's basketball???? I just wonder if the "fire is in the belly" for that sort of thing...also...I hear her personality can be a bit on the "Bobby Knight" side of things...but, I will galdly give aany new coach a chance to get it done for the ladies on the hardcourt! It is way past time that UNT had a GREAT women's BB team!
  11. UNT is not Cheap!!!! Cheap infers some sort of inferority...UNT may (I said MAY) be INEXPENSIVE, but it IS NOT CHEAP! We need to start thinking big if we are going to be big! This whole idea about come to UNT because it is inexpensive is wearing a bit thin with me. UNT is not rfeally much cheaper...as some of our good GMG'ers have pointed out in this topic area...than many of the other universities in Texas (public universities that is)....UNT needs to advertise itself as a great place to get an education and a great place to have pride in attending...and a LIFELONG connevtion with....people can make their own minds up regarding the cost compared to other universities. Just my two cents...probably worth at least half of that!
  12. I know I have said this before...BUT...for those who want to have a real say in what goes on with the Denton Exes Chapter...come join us...I cannot believe anyone would believe that the board did not consider the 12th as a possible date. It was most definitely considered and, as drex pointed out, for more than one very good reason, it was decided that it would be best to not have a conflict with the spring game. Again, as drex pointed out...tickets for the raffle will be available for purchase at the game on the 12th. Come on out and support the Mean green at the spring game AND support the Exes in their effort to raise scholarship dollars for UNT students! It's a real WIN-WIN situation. By the way...are you serious about wanting to help the Exes grow and develop...Well, now is your chance...elections for new board members/officers of the Denton Chapter will take place THIS MONTH! Why not step up to the plate and stand for election? Heck, you too could earn the right to carry the title of "He/She who can be blamed"! Just kidding about that title, but if you read the posts on this board you might not think it is too far off base! Send me a private message if you are interested in being part of a great organization that has helping to make the UNT Exes one of the best alumni associations in the coutry as one of its top priorities...you would definitely be welcome as alumni interested in doing as opposed to just "talking about what someone else should do" are ALWAYS welcome! It is a great group of Exes, but new ideas and new energy are ALWAYS welcome! Send me that PM if you are interested and I will get right back to you. Also...if you want to help raise scholarship dollars...send me a PM and I can help you purchase those scholarship raffle tickets...you could also give drex a call...I think he left his phone number in an earlier post! GO MEAN GREEN...GO EXES!!!!
  13. Had to happen...even with the Sutton name at OSU, the Cowboys and their fans will not stand for two years without the NCAA tourney. It's tough to keep it going and you need more than name recognition as OSU found out. I hope Pat Knight has better luck at Texas Tech. Sean was also the "grumpiest coach" in NCAA BB! Had to be! That face on the court could not have helped his recruiting...his father could gert away with it more because he had the wins to show for it...not so much with Sean. Sean is a good coach and he will land on his feet...just probably not ready for OSU at this point. Good luck to all!
  14. Unless things have changed...the area around Rice is none too swell as a place to stay if you want to do any thing else while in Houston. Houston, on a weekend, is not a bad place to drive around, so you could stay almost anywhere you would like...nice hotels in the Galleria area as well and great shopping and some nice places to eat...all shapes and sizes.
  15. A Rice trip would be fine with me UNLESS I am stuck on a bus with the same driver we had last year to the OU game and back. The guy was a disaster! I do not think he ever went over 45-50 mph and we were hit by a passing car towing a triler (not the drivers fault, but caused delay), had to stop to secure the baggage compartment door (driver's fault), etc. etc. I was absolutely WORN out after taking at least one to one and a half hours longer than it would have taken by car! Being with the MEAN GREEN NATION was, however, a blast...so bring the next trip on! THANKS TO THE EXES FOR GETTING THIS GOING!
  16. Stars...Mavs....Rangers...always seem to find a way to "choke" as the playoffs near...or...in the playoffs in some cases.....But, then...who really cares? It's time for Mean Green football...that's waht amtters!
  17. It is just too bad when character makes no difference what so ever...AT ALL...DONE AND OVER...in professional sports. This sort of stuff is one reason why the young athlete today thinks he/she can get away with anything and that the "world owes them"...BECAUSE THEY CAN IT IT SEEMS THAT THE WORLD DOES!!!! Sad...very sad! But, it is professional sport in today's world...so...my guess...Dallas will suit up Pacman as soon as he is reinstated and the fans will buy lots of Pacman jerseys! Go figure! BAD DEAL ALL THE WAY AROUND...the guy has had way too many "chances"....
  18. I have heard that we are over 50 tickets sold so far for the game...do you have your ticket? I do not want to hear from Dallas area folks on this board that the Exes never do anything in Dallas and never at a time when they can attend...this is a Saturday and it is an evening start time....Come on it's football! Don't we all need a "fix" about this time of year????? I do...and Jason Ball (Ex-Unt kicker and UNT EX...yes, he did graduate) plays for the Gladiators (Cleveland). April 5th - 7:00PM KICK-OFF Call Justin Jordan with the Desperados at 972-785-4831...order through him...tell him you are part of the UNT Exes/Jason Ball event and your tickets are half-price...and we have access to the Milleer Lite room starting at about 5:00PM to meet, greet and mix. A cash bar will be available to those who so choose....like me! Let's get out and enjoy being part of the MEAN GREEN NATION while we cheer for Ex-UNT Kicker Jason Ball. See you on the 5th!
  19. Great for the Hilltoppers...Great for the 'Belt and in a way...great for the Mean green. This makes the conference look stronger and as a result adds a bit of credibility to all its members....BEAT UCLA!!!! Now, how "interesting" would that be? Can you see the headlines now.... "UCLA BEATEN BY WHO??????" Ha! Could be a super "wake-up" call for a little Sunbelt respect!!! GO WKU!!!! In this case.... I like you!
  20. The answer to either question is to contact the Exes. Rob McKinney's phone number is: 940-565-3162. His email address is: rmckinney@unt.edu. Folks, trust me, it is not THAT hard to get answers...and the correct answers...to your questions regarding the Exes...phone lines run right to the Exes center from just about everywhere...well, mabe not Arkansas!!!!! Couldn't resist...they probably have phones in Arkansas by now.
  21. Agree...contact Rob McKinney and/or Susan Williamson at the Exes. They will be MORE than happy to get you any/all info you need. And, yes, it's a great opportunity to get a good solid chapter going in Ft. Worth! Get with the Rob, Susan, Derrick at the Exes center to go forward. If you want my help, as part of the Denton Chapter...happy to do so.....You do not have to "kill yourself" to help organize an active chapter...the folks with the Exes will help....you just have to find folks who want to get involved...IT's well worth the effort...and then you too can hold the title of "He who will be blamed" ! Ha! Send me a PM if you want to talk more.....GO FOR IT!
  22. GreenExes...all I can say is AMEN TO THAT! Well said and jusdt what I have been trying to say in several recent posts...the EXES Assoc. "belongs" to all the Exes...but, to make it better, to make it grow, to be seen...you have to join and you have to get involved...not just sit back and armchair QB or second guess with bad or no information. GO MEAN GREEN...JOIN THE EXES...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB.....GET INVOLVED...you will meet some great members of the Mean Green nation, it's a great way to network for business and a great way to support YOUR university!
  23. KRAM1

    Wow

Congratulations to the Bears for making the Dance in the first place...it was only a few short years ago when the program was in complete disarray. Great job Bears! How soon people forget!
  24. I rteally doubt that any member of the softball team is worried about missing spring break. They do, however, get spring break...no classes, no study halls and no tests! And, they get to do exactly what they love to do...play softball. So, what's the problem with that? This is common in college sports..if you did not realize that before, you certainly must be "new" to the college sports scene.... GO LADIES......GO MEAN GREEN!
