  1. Will it happen? Yes!!! DEFINITELY YES!!! When will it happen? Good question...I am with the 2010 crowd! GO MEAN GREEN...JOIN THE EXES...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...You Gotta Believe!
  2. BUMP...Lots of good UNT PR in the papers about this over the last few days...way to go UNT soccer...way to go Coach Hedlund and staff....way to go players as I am more than certain you had a big role to play in signing the BEST CLASS IN THE SBC! GO UNT SOCCER!
  3. Lots of other great breeds to choose from...why ANYONE would select a Pit Bull as a family pet is beyond me...WAY beyond me...I think it says something about a persons "mind set" when they pick a Pit Bull as a pet. You decide what that "mind-set" is for yourself. If I ever get on the Denton City Council (don't worry,. I won't...I have no desire to get into that mess) I would move quickly to either ban the dogs from the city limits (if possible) or work to set some VERY strict guidelines for owners of such animals...including financial responsibility! BAD DOGS...BAD DOGS.....
  4. "Pit Bulls Apparently Kill Boy"...headlines from the Dallas Morning News Section 1 page 3A TODAY (5/20/08). Just another case of "friendly and gentle" pit bulls attacking and killing a 7 year old boy in Abilene, Texas. The youn boy was found about 150 yards from his house where he had been playing, and 50-75 yards from the house where the pit bulls were owned. The neighbors seemed to have owned four of these "friendly" dogs...two of which attached and killed this young boy! GREAT DOGS...I find it hard to believe that anyone could support having this breed of dog around as a pet!
  5. IT WILL HAPPEN and you WILL live to see it...now, get ready to donate and order tickets. I hope I don't read posts from the same folks "wondering" if the stadium will be built, yelling about the price of tickets when it is built. Prices WILL go up along with "donation" levels for the better seats. Remember, be careful what you ask for because you might get it! I recall the "agony and complaining" on this board when "donation" levels were announced this year for next season's tickets. You would have thought Jerry Jones was setting the fee/donation level. Get ready...start saving now, so you can be part of the first season in the new stadium. I'll be there and it will e GREAT! Just remember...you asked for it! WE ALL asked for it! GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. Steady folks...in fact, the sky is not falling. The fortunes of UNT athletics does not depend upon what UTSA or Texas State does with their programs. It depends 100% on what UNT does with its program. And, from where I sit these days, it looks like UNT is moving "onward and upward". I know things seems so slow at times, like when we were all six years old and waiting for Christmas Day to come. Well, it always came! Take a step back from some of the items posted on this board and really look at the improvement (all around) that the athletic program...and the academic program for that matter...has made in the last 4-5 years. It is not JUST football or basketball that makes up a universiy D-I athletic program. And, while strides in a positive way have been made in UNT's football and basketball programs, look at the overall program. If you are honest, I think you will see more progress ijn the last five years or so than the previous 10-15! GO MEAN GREEN. You can help by purchasing season tickets and in making certain that the tickets are used on game days! Join the Mean Green Club and Join the Exes...be part of the GREAT MEAN GREEN NATION! You will be glad you did!
  7. What? never heard about a "nasty letter" written by Coach Simon after Unt's last game with Army at West Point. What was up with that? Did he think UNT got "homered" by the refs or what? This is just the type of game UNT needs to schedule. It will bring a great crowd and great excitement to UNT just like last year's Navy game. What a fun time that was, and what a turnout by both teams at Fouts. Just shows...if you schedule "interesting" teams, the rears will be in the seats. Way to go RV and staff. Great job...now, go ahead and get Navy and AF back to Fouts...or even a new stadium. Bring 'em on!
  8. Yes, it is the owners' fault, but the breed is a "problem breed" at best. I have researched this issue several times for various reasons. The fact remains, even if your sister did have a "nice" pit bull, that the breed is dangerous. There are case after case of problems with the breed even when the owner takes as much care as possible to train the dog properly...BUT, the question remains, why would one have a dog that must be "trained" not to be an attack dog and one that had to be restrained and watched all the time? This just seems like such a problem and a "tragedy waiting to happen". I know some people keep dangerous pets around and never have a problem, good for them, but why in the name of anything intelligent, would anyone want to take a chance and have this breed as a pet? It is beyond me, the dog is UGLY (and that is being kind!) and it is dangerous! Some people swin with sharks and nevr get hurt, but that does not mean that sharks would make great pets for your family swimming pool! Reminds me of the story about the frog and the snake...snake wants to get across the pond but can't swim, so he asks a frog to carry him across...frog says "no" because you are a snake and would bite me...snake says "no" because he needs the frog's help...frog agrees and carries the snake acroos the pond where the snake immediately bites the frog. Frog asks why since he said he wouldn't and since the frog helped him as asked...snake says...well, you knew what I was when you agreed to help! You know what a pit bull is when you acquire one...why be surprised when it attacks...you knew what it was in the first place...go figure some people!
  9. If I had an insurance company I would not insure any homeowner with a rot or a pit bull. And, if I rented, there would definitely be a clause in the laese about such things...the liability is too great and there are some many "pit bull" lawyers out there just waiting to sue! The attack instinct in these animals is just too much of a risk. While they are "protective of kids" one minute, they are attacking the same kids the very next. Not a risk I care to take, and not a risk I care to have anywhere near me. If you own one I do hope you find a way to keep them locked up and away from everyone else. And, why would you want a dog like a pit bull when there are so very many other great breeds of dogs available. Might just say something about the owner...I am just thinking....
  10. As I have said, and will continue to say, the women's soccer team is a real bright spot for UNT athletics. Coach Hedlund has a very nice program, recruits great athletes (and students...check out the GPA of his teams and the graduation rates) and has developed a solid program that contends year in and year out. I am hopeful that UNT will begin to get the national recognition it deserves. Way to go Coach Hedlund and staff!
  11. I am on the side of getting rid of this breed of dog. They should be banned from every city in the country. The more I read and hear about these dogs the less I like them. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why ANYONE would want anything to do with this breed. And, plaese do not come on this board and tell me how sweet and gentle they really are...that's like telling me baby tigers can grow up to be great pets...SURE...until they turn on you or someone else. Ask Roy of Sigrid and Roy fame about that...and they are two of the very best animal "tamers" the world has ever seen. The pit bull is a very dangerous breed, and has proven time and time again that they ARE not pets!
  12. I am with you LAZER...bring on DodgeBall!
  13. O.K., I just read the article and I am with the group that does not see the article as overly negative at all. RV is in the "promotions" business...he tries his best to "promote" athletics at UNT. Does anyone on this board think President Batille was hired because she was a good in-classroom professor/teacher???? Her job is to build UNT into an "emerging research university", just like RV's job is to build the athletic program into a quality/winning program across the board. OK, UNT got its hand slapped because of some "interesting" rolling four-year average APR formula...a formula it appears which does not apply to some "other university programs"....HMMMMM...but, I'll leave that for another discussion. Fact is, RV does not have to "spill the beans" about UNT's plan to some local reporter. What he has to do is fix the problem. Which, I firmly believe HE WILL. RV is a public figure, and like most public figures, he has his supporters and his detractors...seveal of both are not shy of expressing their never so humble opinions here on this board...but, no matter which camp you fall in, the athletic program at UNT is in much better shape now than it was before RV got to UNT. I am speaking overall, including facilities, attendance, coaches, etc., etc. I am just glad that everything I do at my job is not subject to such close "observation" by the newspapers, the public, etc. Put me in the camp that thinks RV DOES have a plan to fix the APR rating. I personally do not care if he shares it with me or not. I, frankly, do not have a "need to know" as I was told often while serving in the Air Force. GO MEAN GREEN....JOIN THE EXES...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...BUY SEASON TICKETS...AND...by all mans...SHOW UP AT THE GAMES! The APR is what it is...I, for one, am moving on because Dodgeball time is getting closer ecery day!
  14. I understand and I realize they could/can use Lantana as I am a member of Lantana, but that still is a bit away from campus and does not have a "history" as yet as the UNT home course. It is a good course as it held the PGA Stage II Q-scholl this last year locally...anyway, I think it hurts a bit not haveing a course "seen" as UNT's course...but, there are certainly "bigger" issues...some of which I mentioned in my earlier post. I remain convinced that given the "proper" priority with the Athletic Dept. UNT's golf teams could be some of the best in the country.
  15. And his ex-assistant can't even get a shot at another coaching job!
  16. One "cahllenge" UNT now has is the lack of a course near campus. While that may not sound like a very big deal to some, it can work against UNT in the recruiting game. And, in the recent past, not a lot of focus/emphasis was placed on gold at UNT. Too many other "pressing needs" I would guess...like the football, basketball, softball, soccer, tennis (hey, big doner makes things happen even in the "lesser" sports), etc. to put too much attention to the golf program. Too bad because UNT does have a past with golf thast is quite positive. UNT, at one time, was looked upon as a "powerhouse" of sorts in golf...can you say Don January among others? And, yes, I know that WAS some time ago. UNT can, and I suspect, will, upgrade the golf program. I am not knocking the current team at all, just stating that I do not believe they have been given the "focus" in terms of dollars, equipment, coaching, recruiting, etc. that will bring them to the next level. Our current team members are very good golfers...if you don't believe that, go play a round with any of them and see how you do! There was a recent rumor that a new housing development was in the palnning stages for west of the campus (I think) that would include a golf course that could be used as UNT's "home course". Anyone know anything about that rumor? Want to see a grat college course...go chect out the Karston Creek facility that OSU uses in Stillwater, Oklahoma...nice...VERY nice...pretty tough course too! I for one appreciate what the golf teams have accomplished given the emphasis currently placed on golf at UNT. Buy the way...the teams appear to be loaded with scholar-athletes. Good kids, good golfers, great students....so I hear! GO MEAN GREEN!
  17. Seems to me that Marty had a very nice game 2 in Detroit. Game one was a "mess" all the way around...Turco had no chance of keeping them in the game playing the way they were...way too "tired" and "drained" from the long OT game...Marty should be congratulated for stepping up in this year's playoffs. It is not too late against the Red Wings, either, but itb will take soem mighy "doing" to get out with the wins to advance. If Dallas doesn't advance, it probably will not be Marty's "fault" this time. Leave any keeper (hockey, soccer, water polo, lacrosse, etc., etc) hanging out there alone in front of his net, and it will be a tough game indeed. Where are the others who are susposed to not let the opposing team get to the goal in the first place? Just wondering....
  18. I do not think we are in danger of losing Dr. Batille at this point, but someday...ABSOLUTELTY. I think she is preparing herslf for an eventual move. But, much like Coach Dodge, it will be great having her/them both here while we can hold them. They both appear to be "hot commodities" in their own professions. That is a good thing, and says a good bit of positive things about UNT. Dr. Batille earnd every cent of her salary. I wonder if she has had a day off since coming to UNT? This lady shows up EVERYWHERE! Saturday, Sunday...no matter, she is working. She travels for the University, gives after hours and weekend talks, visits team events, AND tries to re-shape UNT from a "teaching" to a "research" university. She has already upgraded some admin and faculty positions (although one an question some of the new positions being created for more VP's), and she is looking for ways to improve and upgrade across the board. Not comfortable for some faculty and admins right now, but it is moving UNT upward and forward. Congrats to Dr. batille, she heads up a multi-million dollar operation, and earns everthing she is getting...and then some. It takes $$$$$ to hire and retain top leaders in any field.
  19. Skill seems to be there for the kid in the 8th grade, but injuries happen, interests change, etc., etc. I have seen too many "great" 7th/8th graders turn into average, at best, HS seniors. This kid may well be different, but 8th grade? Give me a break. I predict the kid will not wear Kentucky Blue by the time his freshman year in college comes around. Hey, isn't there some 7 ft. 8th grade kid in Mongolia that JJ can offer a scholarship to today? Maybe he can give him the one we lost...surely UNT will have it back by then!
  20. Hmmmmm...Quoner....you do miss the scaecasm sometimes. But it is hard, I guess, to get scarcasm to come across well on a chat board! I hope I don't read about you imploding one of these days...hang in there and lighten up a bit. You will live longer! It is, after all, only a game!
  21. Stupid is as stupid does! It's major league baseball...it was probably boring even the players so the guy decided to see if some "action" might pick things up! O.K., I am just kidding. I couldn't herlp myelf. It was right there for the taking!
  22. By the way drex, when our son was a UNT ball Boy he had to stop after the 7th grade as if he were allowed to do it in the 8th grade it would be considered a recruiting violation...anyway, that's the story we got, so maybe they can play at the pit through 7th grade. Who knows... And, what was i doing in 8th grade...can't remember, but i do know I was about 12 years old before I figured out that all women did not fold three times and have staples in the navals! Yes, i found my dad's Playboy's early in life!
  23. Just because I enjoy the college game over the pro games does not mean that I can't recognize pure stupidity for what it is...look up stupid in the dictionary and you get this example. I predict this kid will never set foot on the court in a Kentucky uniform if he ever sees the court as a college player...man, this is pure folly...
  24. This APR "stuff" reminds me of the beginnings of Title IX compliance. It was "all over the place" and appeared to be applied "selectively" depending upon how "big a dog" you were in the NCAA world. So, for me it is DeJa Vu time! Yes, the athletic dept. knows what "up" with the situation at UNT and seems to have worked to minimize the "damage" somewhat. This is a "moving target" as you can tell from the reported penalties or non-penalties dished out. Just like the recent AA grounding of all its MD-80's for a non-issue wiring problem...the flying public was not considered, but the impact of selective enforcement was felt by lots of innocent folks. This may be the NCAA flexing its muscle once again...think anyone else will ever get the death penalty that SMU was given? Seems there have been cases where it should have been applied, but was not...this APR thing, too, will pass as a major issue once everyone gets their arms around the ever-changing rules. The good thing might just be that schools strt recruiting STUDENT athletes in lieu of simply athletes. Who knows....guess what? The sun will come up tomorrow and football season will happen come late August with the first kick-off. GO MEAN GREEN!
